Hi I just bought a droid 3 on ebay. The phone comes with .906 by default, and I've been getting mixed results about being able to use it on AT&T. Some people seemed to have had issues with 906 when it first came out, while others say that the new radio works perfectly on gsm networks. Does anybody have any instructions/links on how to flash the updated radio to the Droid 3? Thanks.

That's what I thought I would use. Sorry to be so annoying and post a question that, yet again, has this link as the answer. I searched everywhere for certain confirmation that everything works on 906 and there was always that one person who had an issue. Do I need to go back to .890 before flashing the radio?

no need to go back to 890, just make sure your phone is under Fastboot mode

Actually, how do I get the phone into fastboot mode? Does .906 have a special fastboot file or can I just follow what it says to type into the CMD box? The files included in that thread are for .890 so I don't want to screw anything up. I know moto phones are tough to brick, but better off safe.

dont think there is an issue with .906 and using domestic GSM networks. my first droid 3 was on .906 and it worked fine.
im currently on the build before and using att,im going to sbf back to stock and update to .906 though.
there are some build prop modifications that should be done, including one to fix a cosmetic error with the bar signals that shows less bars than there truly is.
there is also an updated GSM radio as well.I am going to flash that too to see if there is any improvement.

And, for people like me with a broken volume down button, slide open the keyboard while powered off and hold the "f" key while powering on to start fastboot....

Hi All,
My droid stopped making and receiving calls, and 3g is usually out. Tried a bunch of different roms including going back to one I know it was always working with, so I don't think it's a software issue.
I also upgraded to basebane C_01.43.01P and that didn't help either. I found a thread on here about returning to stock for the milestone, but I couldn't find info on what I'd need to do so for a droid on verizon.
Any pointers would be great. Ideally, I'd like to do it on linux (as it's all I've got), but from what I've read it seems windows is required.
Cheers,
Alan.
its the same process for the droid as for the milestone. get the original sbf and flash it with RSDlite.
Thanks Daria. Where can I find the original sbf and the current stock rom? Google hasn't been my friend with the rom, I've not yet tried googling for the sbf.
Thanks,
Alan.

Thanks An email to vzw got things fixed, so I haven't needed to downgrade yet, but I've got it ready to verify it's not a rom issue.
The page won't load for me... I'm trying to reach the Milestone archive. Is there any mirror available?
Thanks.

Thanks, looks like I wasn't the only one. I ended up doing the update thru Motorola's updater...
And I now have a nice 599$ brick.
Fvck.
what happened?
What's your phone model?
A853 (Telus Canada).
It updated successfully, at the end of the process it asked me to unplug, reboot, replug.
So I unplugged it, and from now on... nothing. Power button doesn't do anything, and plugging it doesn't either.
If you are talking about Motorola software update, you don't need to manually reboot. It should reboot on its own. I don't know what went wrong there.
I dont have a telus sbf, but i have a SEA sbf. You can flash that and use OR to apply telus baseband to get your 3g working. Interested?
I never had to uplug it before, but it had been stuck on the Motorola logo for 25 minutes... a couple minutes is usual after an update, 25 isn't.
I'd like to be able to flash it, however now it just won't power up. Power button doesn't do anything, and same for plugging it.
(OP, sorry for the hijack, considering it's solved I hope you don't mind...)
Remove battery. Plugin phone to charger without battery. Does it show battery icon with ? in the middle?
No, nothing...
Anyone tried using the RAZR recovery on the Droid 4? Lookin to do up the Arctic rom, but would feel much better if I could get a nandroid.
EDIT: This is the link to the RAZR recovery I was mainly thinking of: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385283

I dont know whats going on lol.....everyone is coming with all these different stories. I used the root exploit that was out and used the safestrap for recovery. I dont think I did anything different than anyone else. And then i took a chance flashing a Razr rom
Oh yeah, the original utility had the safestrap didn't it? The latest utility doesn't anymore (although I think it works).

I took it out until Hashcode brings it out for Droid 4. I've been corresponding with him and if the maker of Safestrap tells you it isn't safe to use on Droid 4 yet then you usually should listen.
All up to your risk though.
I made a nandroid using safestrap, or thought i did. I made my backup so i figured i would try that arctic rom so i followed the directions step by step. After i wiped cache and factory reset i went install from sd and the arctic rom that i know i put on it was not there. So i figured i would flash back to the backup i just made and try the process of putting the arctic on my sd. Some how i ended up bricking my phone and am now stuck in bootloader and my device is looked. Have you or anyone else made an sbf, oneclick recovery or a way to unbrick my D4?

Not yet. There is a reason we have warnings on these...
I hope we get fastboot yet. You cannot just "make them" they have to be leaked.
FYI Motorola does Fastboot files, not SBF now.

You would be Man of the Year if you did that. You mean you bootstrapped it, right?
Leaked means they have to trickle out from Motorola/Verizon somehow.. either on purpose or by "accident" somebody on the inside putting them out there for use by our wonderful devs.
As for SBF vs fasboot, i dont know exactly the difference but think of them as different types of "recovery" that can be used to fully restore your phone to factory condition.

Yes, i mean bootstrapped and you mean woman of the year, right? My bf said the difference between the two is SBF your makinga mirror image of everything and doing a complete system dump and fastboot is just cutting the power for a split sec. It will clear your immediate cache but some memory is still there.

No, i dont. Im new to root, just rooted in nov. If you give me something thst would fix it that would be awesome.
Unfortunately, the fix isn't exactly a simple one.
It comes in 3 parts (assuming you're on Windows):
1. You'll need to download and install RSD Lite which is what is used to flash the fastboot restore files from Motorola:
http://dev-host.org/ug07spima1mq/RSDLite5.5.rar
2. Download and install the Motorola USB drivers to recognize your phone in fastboot mode:
http://www.mediafire.com/?z5qpc8v3xza25e6
3. I'm setting up a mini WEBTOP fastboot restore file based on the latest RAZR fastboot files (I say small.. but it's still quite a large download). The version is slightly off from the D4's but it might be close enough, and I think it's worth a shot:
[ Getting this file setup will take me about an hour, but you can get steps 1 and 2 ready for now ]
ALSO KEEP THE PHONE POWERED OFF FOR NOW TO SAVE BATTERY. FASTBOOT WILL NOT PROGRAM WITH A LOW BATTERY.

Hi Everyone,
I'm adding a page on randomphantasmagoria.com for all the stock OTA updates for the Motorola DROID A855 and am curious if someone can provide me a list of the bootloader versions for the phone that have existed over the years? I can figure out which versions go with which firmware...I just want a list of all the versions that have existed. I was able to find one for the Milestone, but I know that has a locked down and encrypted bootloader whereas the A855 DROID does not, so I would assume the DROID A855 used different bootloaders entirely. If anyone could help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it.
So far I have the following:
2C.5C
2C.7C
Any others?
Thanks!

I believe you hold the D-pad Up button while turning the phone on. It'll go into bootloader mode and it'll say something like Bootloader 2C.7C Battery OK. Our of curiosity, are you running a stock ROM on your DROID or are you using something custom?

OK, that worked. Mine says 2C-7C also. And I am running a custom ROM, kfazz ICS 7/03 build.
Ok I've become highly frustrated can anyone help me on this one? Droid 3 stock was working fine and all of a sudden no service what so ever. Can only connect via wifi. I've done: *228 (doesn't work no service), ## program (didn't work somehow my spc password has changed tried all vzw told me to try), tried factory reset (still didn't work), tried rooting phone cwm boot strapper etc (still no radio) even tried the stock flash from other threads where these phones have had this issue. (Still not working) I even tried cdma workdhop to read the memory to find the spc pw and the file said that the txt file did not exist. What's left to do? Pull the trigger? Really could use some help.... thanks!
By stock flash do you mean sbf via rsdlite or motofastboot. If you've flashed stock firmware and still have issues I would suspect it's a hardware issue

Try toggling through Global/CDMA/GSM modes and end on CDMA (if you use Verizon). I sometimes have this issue, though usually after flashing a radio. Also if you SBF, remember to wipe data/cache. If you want it, I can upload the stock 890 radio and you can flash with moto-fastboot. The 890 radio DOES work with 906 system, I switch between the 890 and XT883 radio for CDMA/GSM.
Motofastboot and rsdlite are just 2 different ways of flashing firmware. Rsdlite is more user friendly and automated whereas motofastboot is a command line utility that allows you to flash single partitions instead of the whole device. Ovelayers tool uses motofastboot and a script I believe

Does one of these exist? I know for the original Droid there's a wiki on this site that has all of the known Verizon build numbers.
I just bought a used Droid 3 on eBay and managed to semi-brick it by trying to flash an older revision to it, since they aren't very obvious from the names. If someone has a list of all of the various updates, that would be great.
The only two I have are:
VRZ_XT862_5.5.1_84_D3G-55_1FF_01.xml.zip
VRZ_XT862_5.5.1_84_D3G-66_M2-10_1FF_01a.xml.zip
Both of those fail flashing and as such I'm stuck in the bootloader. Need to find a newer one to flash in RSD Lite...
Thanks

According to that, VRZ_XT862_5.5.1_84_D3G-66_M2-10_1FF_01a.xml.zip is the newest for Verizon. I have that one already and it refuses to flash.
The phone said Verizon Wireless before I attempted to flash it, so what's going on? Somehow I think that post is incomplete.

Oh, that's strange, it seems to boot up correctly now even though RSD Lite said flashing failed about 6 steps in. I guess because neither of the two was able to flash correctly, anything after step 6 didn't get overwritten in the first place.
And I see here it's on 5.7.906
Would it work to try to flash one of the newer builds from a different carrier or will that permabrick me? I'm not used to this locked bootloader crap so I really don't know what I can and can't do.
Edit: Actually, if I try to power it on normally it gives me "AP Flashboot Fast Mode (S) (Flash Failure)"
But if I hold the two volume keys to get into that menu, and I scroll down to BP Tools, then it boots up normally.

Oh, I'm an idiot.
Turns out it was just a bad USB cable. That's what I get for buying 50-cent cables from China
I used my Motorola branded one and it worked fine. Got it back working again.
I AM curious about crossflashing other carriers' ROMs to the phone though, would that brick it? I'm not actually trying to use this for phone service, more like just a wi-fi enabled toy, same with my other Droids. So it doesn't matter if it connects to Verizon anymore or not.
