stable ROM / kernel - Nexus 4 General

Hello guys
Please recommend me a stable ROM and kernel for Nexus 4. The phone belong to my wife, she is not a really power user.
And btw, which ROM is the most customizable ( like JBSourcery - Galaxy Nexus ) for LG Nexus 4 ?
She tried XenonHD but is not stable, she said. It crashed a lot.
Thank you.

Almost all ROMs/Kernels are stable..
You can go for PAC, Carbon it has whole lots of customization and its stable. Kernel, no doubt Franco kernel for better battery life with performance tweaks. Hope u gt the answer.:good:

What about AOKP ?
If i install Franco Kernel, which version i should take ? Milestone 1 ?
Thank you.

I go for AOKP. It seems pretty stable and with a lot of options for customize.
Thank you.
One more think : she use A.I. type keyboard. But after she installed some themes, after a while, the default keyboard replace the A.I. type keyboard. She checked as the default keyboard, A.I. type keyboard, but after 10 - 15 minutes, as i said, default Android keyboard replace the A.I. type one.
Is that because of the new themes installed ? Because of the ROM / kernel ? How could i set this, to stay the A.I. type keyboard as the default one, forever ?

I tried imilka's ROM (v06) as I want AOSP, but after a few days I decided to go back to stock until it is based on a genuine GT-N7000 image. Just a slight bit too flaky for me.

I am on ICS Stunner v4.3 now. Better than imilka's AOSP. Highly recommended!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
The best rom for me is ICS Stunner 4.3. I noticed a few problems while using double twist but other than that its amazing and not battery consumer. I can last 16-18 hours with moderate whatsapp use and surfing
+1 for Stunner.
There's 3 types of roms:
A) Stock Rom (aka OEM's ROM) - the rom that's shipped with the device.
B) Custom Rom (ie/ "in between roms") - these are like VillianROMs, they're OEM based roms but altered by a 3rd-party developer (eg xda) for the *better*
C) AOSP Rom (ie/ based on Google's Source Code) - examples are AOSP, AOKP, CyanogenMod, MIUI.
For any new device, you always get access to A-type roms first, then B-type, then C-typer...understood?
For me, C > B > A in-terms of overall experience (as long as they offer you the features you want and are stable).
And in terms of C-type roms; MIUI > CM9 = AOKP > AOSP.
...other important points, use your favourite launcher with any rom, have all primary apps inverted (white -> black background), use a dark theme and replace the cyan detailing with a crimson one*.
So what's the best (imho) right now: neobuddy's ICS-Stunner v4.3
It's nearly 100% perfect. The only problems is a little stability issues (rare), no Super-optimized kernel (one that clocks higher while saving battery), and no support for the S-Pen.
Otherwise: maxicet's MidNote v3.1
It's not as fluid as ICS Stunner, doesn't have the AOKP options, but its decent daily driver and the S Pen works.
*Not the best example, but this red theme would save you lots of battery life, especially on a AMOLED screen:

Yes.
There already is one or two beta's. I'd advise against those at this stage. The CMT will likely support the AT&T version. They will also (officially)support the international version but that would be in 6 months time from now. (Just like they did on the i9000).

It's already available, he just hasn't posted it on xda. PM him if you want a copy or just wait a couple hours for his OpeningPost to change. Its normally just updating the system/apps to the latest with a little bug fixes and going back to ext4 (which should make things even smoother).

rom creation!

hey guys I tried all 4 rom are there for my optimus black, and I must say that I prefer his original ....
the only nice feature is the new delfin, others are not that great ...
almost all zeam launcher that I really do not like it at all!
The cyano is not very good now and then crashed and I have to restart the phone!
I wanted to ask the developers if they instead continue to update the same rom, you could not possibly build a new one .... I do not know how I'd play if not!
for example, using the cyano as the basis, perhaps with some kernel that makes it function better, and change the launcher base adw with another and with some modifications at the interface, status bar, and some news ....!
excuse me if I am a bit picky, but among the rom are there for this phone, I have the rom of the original because it's the best there is sincere!
sorry but my English is not my own language ...
Let me set this straight... you don't want the ROMs because of the launcher that it includes? Are you aware that you can install ANY launcher? (Even the Original LG Launcher)

You really prefer original V20? GB from LG? do you tried Zeus v6.11? its the best and stablest rom out there, and for one man only work its really awesome, its your opinion, but i think not much will agree When i use any rom i always change Keyboard, Launcher, maybe Theme when Cyanogenmod and Ringtone, so that the only changes are Interface and the Tweaks.. You should make a list what makes you say that original is best

You can uninstall the launcher that comes by default. Really, I don't see your point. The only thing that I could possible understand that you'd criticise are the themes... but still, the Zeus theme is really close to the stock one.

I don't mean any disrespect, but I think you basically don't know what you're talking about. You're out here in the forums criticizing all the rom developers out there who's doing their best to provide good, quality custom roms for us.
If you have a problem with the launcher then change it! You can't expect every developer to please you because each of use have different preference.
take a look...
the beauty of the droid lies in it's "Compatibility" and flexiness.
EVERY APPLICATION IN A ROM can be changed, modified or deleted.
the DEV provides a "standard" app for the ROM (like a standard launcher, generic keyboard, music player, etc). if you do not like it, delete them from the zip and add the ones you like BEFORE flashing.
u can swipe the apps from other ROM's you like, or better yet, install a ROM and then customize it. like i use the xperia s launcher, so i deleted the launcher with the ROM.
there are some GREAT ROM's out there. Try ZEUS. as said, ZEUS is phenomenal. also try ECHELON and MARVEL. these are your "stock" options.
else u can also go for MIUI(2.6 is really stable) or cm7.
and HOW ARE THERE "4" ROMs??!!! for GB, i can count:
1. ZEUS
2. ECHELON
3. MIUI
4. DELFIN
5. MARVEL
6. LEWA OS
7. LEZO
8. TMR
9. LFD
10. NOA
11.LIGUX
12. SAPPHIRE
13. PRADA 3.0
and 14.CM7 (original plus many KANGs)a....four ROMs???do search the forum a bit man
I'm not offending anyone at!
I simply asked if instead of doing the rom updates that are already there, you could not possibly create new ones!
This was the pillar of my request!
However, I repeat that my request was simply if you could make new rom! I have not really criticized the no!
and anyway thanks

are definitely better ones on this forum for rom .... that the original ....
but the ones I like are not Italian and cyano is not working well ...
Heard about "More Locale " ? It gives you the option to instal languages in case the ROM doesn't have them.
Zeus gives the option to restore the dreaded LG launcher and keyboard so it will look as the original ROM it will just be faster and leaner.Same for most of the original software-browser, lock screen , office etc.
Apart from the looks, which as i said can be restored do say what makes the original ROM better for you?

I think that everything has already been said and cleared. Anybody agrees with me?

In custom roms I also miss the support of my language, MoreLocale2 doesn't restore my language, it only sets the country&language of the user.

the best answer for this is you should try yourself.
there are roms with lots of enhanced apps
roms with hybrid mode
roms built with speed as focus
roms built with all junk deleted
and many more other types of roms
or maybe you should ask for more specific question, people might help you.

by the way I feel Kingdroid 4.2+GL_NoteCore 1.2b kernel is fine
Dunno, why everyone bleets on about pa, been there done it, but cm9's stylus experience is not a patch on Sammy based roms, also the landscape spen accuracy is terrible, you loose the great spen actions and control, snote and smemo, your be told there are alternatives like papyrus, tried them all, don't come close to the Sammy sapps, now a cm9/Sammy/tablet hybrid now you're talking

All roms based on AOSP like CM9 and those that are based on it, with CM9 being the best, fastest and most stable of them. Paranoid is amazing if you're after tablet/hybrid UI. which rom best for battery life and smooter?
Each custom Roms are subjective to the user's preference. He /she could claim that it's butter smooth/fast, great battery life and etc. BUT at the end of the day, You yourself would be the ultimate judge to which ROM that really suits your fancy. It's all about a user's preference and satisfaction.
Don't believe on anyone who will tell you that this and that ROM works fine and dandy for them. Because their results might not be what you would expect the most.
Try and try each ROM for yourself, until you would finally settle for a ROM that you and you alone would claim as the perfect ONE for YOU!.
Always remember, there are different strokes for different folks... What works for others DOESN'T necessarily mean it will work for you. It's all about choice and individuality.
YOUR Individuality.. NOT theirs.....

Welcome!
That is a nice TW (stock samgsung software) based rom, with some tweaks and a diferent kernel you can make it really fast.
On the other hand, as you said you want it to look good I'd recommend you to use VengeanceNote TW, as it's MIUI over the TW base. It is fast. It is beautiful. I'm not sure about the hebrew support tough, you might want to head to the thread and ask there. The dev, Gerrett, is preetty nice and wil most definitely help you as much aas he can.
If you want to use an AOSP ( Google software ) I'd most definitely recommend you Asylum + NX Kernel. This is as fast as my note has ever been. Don't worry about everyone on the thread being crazy tough. Thay are nice after you get used to them
Anyway, good luck with your phone You'll love it

You're lucky then, I had FC on all ROMs i've used on my SGS
I've used VengeanceNote for a long time. It is very stable indeed. Only problem i could remember is that it had a duplicated root manager app, but if you opened the right one you would have no problem at all. I'm just waiting for a custom kernel to support it so i can jump back to it.
Never used Carbon Rom itself, but from what i've experienced with this all-in-one roms, they're not very stable.
I'd say if you're interested on AOSP Asylum is the way to go. It's really clean and fast. And if you don't like the all black look you can always install CM10 themes

I think that would be great,as I said I'm looking for a fast, clean ROM and Asylum sounds perfect,
just 2 more small questions:
1.About that kernel you've recommended,is it mendatory to install with Asylum or I can just stick with my PhilZ kernel ?
2.I would love it if you could explain to me how to install some CM10 themes and where to get them !

Nop, you can use phlz for flashing, but Asylum will overwrite it with CM10 kernel. But i recommend flashing NX after you flashed the rom. It has OC support and GPU clock control. It makes things really smooth.
About the themes you can get them on play store or on some threads here on xda. A quick google search for "CM10 theme" will show you lots of results.

It won't work if I flash the Asylum and after it overwrites it with CM10 kernel I flash the PhilZ kernel? (Instead of NX)

As far as i know philz is for TW only, so it won't work.
Any specific reason you want to stick with it?

Ummm, actually no,my dad just recommended it to me he said PhilZ is one of the best kernels developers out there,
and that its very safe to use his recovery (maybe I didn't understand correctly but I heard there was a problem some time ago with
ICS kernels/wiping or something, and that this phone got bricked once because of that)
He also said speedmod is great, but I dunno that guy or his kernels lol.

Indeed he's a great dev, and he saved many of us from bricking our devices
On stock samsung kernels, there's a bug, that when you wipe your data partition on recovery it corrupt's the memory chip, rendering it useless. So if you are going to use stock roms on your phone, either don't wipe or stick to safe kernels.
On the other hand, the AOSP kernels don't show such behaviour and are generally safe. So if your going with Asylum, don't worry. You're safe.

No, unfortunatelly you can't add thos features on any AOSP rom. Neither those nor Snote and other TW apps.
VengeanceNote include them tough. Seems you have to make your choice
No problem man I felt lost when i've changed my phone, and if someone haven't made the same thing for me i would have probably bricked it
