[APP][Android 2.3+] Beta of Quad - Paid Software Announcement and Discussion

Hi,
I am the founder of LevelUp Studio. Some of you know us for Beautiful Widgets and Plume.
We are working on a new app and now we are starting our beta.
Discover QUAD Drawer.

Quad is the quickest way to launch applications.
The first version of the beta is simple, you have access to a T9 or regular keyboard to filter apps, and 3 options to sort your apps.
With this two features, you will be able to launch your apps faster.
In the future we will add more features and would like your feedback/ideas on it
3 permissions are asked :
Write external storage is used for our internal logger
Install shortcut is used to put a shortcut of an app on the homescreen
Internet is used for the internal updates (HockeyApp) and the anonymous statistics (Google Analytics)
If you want to join our beta test, please visit our community on Google+ : https://plus.google.com/communities/114144688961583518202
You can make your feedback here or there.
Enjoy your tests !

For those who rode our description, why aren't you interested ? Do you want more information ?

Hi there,
I just stumbled over your thread and tried your app. It's an interesting concept, I'll play a little with it. But for now: cool!
And thank you for sharing!

Thank you for your feedback.
We made a gif to show you how the app is working.
And our description :
You asked us what Quad is ? At first, we deliberately gave you no information in order to gather your spontaneous feedbacks. So, what is Quad ? See this post...
Quad stands for "QUick App Drawer"
First, you can sort your app list. Depending on your needs you can sort them by recent activity, by amount of launches, by download date or simply by names. All your favorite apps are brought to you effortlessly.
But what about all your other apps, the ones you launch once or twice in the week? With Quad you'll be able to found and launch an app very quickly by using the predictive keyboard.
For example, type "758" to find and launch Plume for Twitter
Why is it so fast ? Because most of the time, only one or two keys will be enough to find the app you need.
With time, Quad learns the apps you use the most and gives them a better rank when you perform a search.
For us, Quad aims to replace the default drawer. Thus, we added its basic features. With a long press, you'll be able to quickly reach actions to perform on your apps like uninstalling them, sending shorcuts on the homescreen, viewing their details or opening them in Play Store.
These features are only the first steps, Quad improvement is still in progress and that's why we need your feedbacks.
In the future we'll add more cool stuff and it may go beyond apps launching... So, keep in touch!

In the Google+ community's description. I don't have enough post to give you the link. I am sorry.

Hi jorodan,
I like the floating window in your new version! Strangely it's position is moving if I start an app from within the launcher. Moreover it would be cool if the it could be disabled in running apps. Sometimes it's on the wrong place, like the keyboard. Maybe it would be helpful if it could only be activated for the homescreen?

I don't think it is technically possible.

Hi Jorodan,
thanks for your answer! I like your improvements very much but with the double tap function there is a catch. When I'm typing fast on the dialpad, the floating window is closing. I think you should remove that feature. Anyways I like it :good:

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback!
There's indeed an issue that has been fixed in development. This fix will be available in the next beta.

Just wanted to kudos you people for this awesome app, just missing 'use as launcher' 'force orientation' and 'direct call to a number' options, with those you can replace 3 or 4 default apps, just with this one.. well maybe making it a bit faster could be good too
Right now I'm using Xposed's module App settings to force portrait orientation and Target Home Launcher to use it as home launcher, but best would be having those options in the app.

Hello everyone,
I'm graphic artist and I design interfaces and icons. In this thread you can request app designs, but only for already released or (almost) working apps. I don't want to put my time into apps that are never going to finish or apps that are just tryouts.
Please post a current screenshot of the app and all the features you want to have in the interface.
Examples of my designs:
aBench:
development in progress
SpeedProof:
App released on 23-06-2009!

Let the coders and designer meet and produce juicy apps!

If it's for free, you are my hero !
Are you willing to help me with some icon modifications* for a WM app I have written or are you Andriod only?
*I have the icon's but I need to change them without ruining them - I suck at PS.
Thanks

@RPG0: Yea I do this for free what kind of app did you make/are you busy with?
@DaveShaw: umm... preferably android post the images and your idea then I'll have a look.
Awesome, another designer who helps out devs :]
Great work from what I see posted. Lets make android 'pretty'
(I've offered to do free icon redesigns to free apps in market that I find useful, I figure I'd give back to the community when they've done so much for my phone)
Do you fancy having a look at 'aDyno' and see what you think...

Wow, both apps look really good. Can't wait to try out aBench
Hi !
I seriously need a fresh design for my widgets.
Especially for 'Pure messaging widget'.
I don't like to copy 'HTC sense' style.
You will find screenshots here :

I'd like to create at least 4x2 & 4x4 widgets (may be 4x3).

I want to maximize used space, but with a cool design.
I little bit like my last skin for 'Pure grid' :
Airplane Mode Wi-fi Helper
Draxter:
I found this thread and I was amazed that you would do this for free.
Here's an app I'm working on, it's done, however I need a design for it.
Basically it's an app that helps users traveling on airplane to use the wi-fi.
1) I'd like for it to have some sort of background image or sleek design.
2) The buttons can be replaced with ImageButtons.
3) Some buttons will be disabled, and obviously pushed.
4) The actual icon should stay how it is, however the app title can change to anything.
"Airplane Mode Wi-fi Enabler" is already on the market, and this will be the next update. The settings tools of the ap available on the market is available on this one as well, its just that this one is a little better tool for non-advanced android users.
The app is free and will stay free, I have other apps I sell and I want to contribute to the community by leaving this one free.
Thanks in advance!
Forgot to say. I will definitely credit you on the "About" section of the app.
Thanks.
I will look at your requests as soon as i can (probably this weekend )

Great, when you get a chance, no rush. Thanks!
I have a nice idea for both the calendar and the airplane apps, I downloaded the airplane app and all it shows me is "keep wifi on?" Im not getting a screen like your screenshot at all
I was wondering what the landed button would do, does it restore the settings to airplane mode off and wifi on or something?
A (tiny) small impression, Have to go now again, be back tomorow
Hi dexter,
Actually, that's the old version in the market. The new version is totally different, just like the screenshot.
PM your email so I can send you an apk file

Mmmmm, i like it but at the same time I don't.
I would live with it but I know there will be some iHaters out there that won't like it.

Multitask App?

I'm not sure if this has been asked before, and if it has please forgive me, but are there any apps that can replicate, or resemble Palm Pres Card style multitasking? Is there a limitation with the Android Platform that means it couldnt work? Jailbroken iphones have this functionality too, and it seems like with the open nature of the Android Platform we should be able to have.
that would need an app that runs other apps "windowed"... i don't think that is gonna happen. opposing the iphone android already has true multitasking out of the box, just get a task manager if you need one.

If programmed to do so the app you close will remain open and working in the background. Then you can re open it and you will be where you were when you closed it.

You could just use the built in multitasking. Hold Down The home button until the little window pops up.

I am not able to develop the screenshot now, it show only the icon. I strongly believe that i wiill be able to implement the screen capture feature soon...!
Report me any bug/suggestion/remark.
Features:
Launch it with a long press on search button ( camera button will come for devices without search button)
1) See all running app in an endless horizontal scroll
2) icons ( not screenshots) are displayed like palm pre
3) kill an app by dragging it to the top of the screen
4) Drag down an app to ignore it
5) icons ( not screenshots) are displayed like palm pre
6) icon size / space beetween icon fully customizable
7) Graphic png fully customizable
look in the preferences for all features
Thanks for that App, I like it alot. One minor aesthetic thing I wouldn't mind seeing in future versions is kinetic scrolling, although that's really not important. Good luck implementing screenshots, too!

That list just shows the last 6 programmes you have used so you can shortcut to them. It does not necessarily mean they will be running in the background.
Multitasking on the Pre is the best multitasking there is. Hands down. If someone made a "cards" application for android it would sell a ton...

there is a screen that keeps coming up in both free & trial version
it needs to be removed saying:

free & trial app users should accept the Ads..but this screen is annoying & unnecessary as after you use an icon, you should go straight back to home screen

Lightning Dial - New Version
Hi guys,
I am the developer of Lightning Dial, the first app in this thread.
Thank you for posting it here, especially in a thread called "Best apps collection..."
I will soon make its own thread in this forum where everyone will be able to suggest new features, report bugs and discuss it. I still cannot do that because I am a new user and cannot post links, but this will soon pass.
In the meantime, version 1.2 was just certified for the Marketplace! Expect it in a few hours! Here are the changes:
[New] Flashlight shortcut added
[New] Contact page shortcut added
[New] Home page setting added
[Improved] 'Default status' option added to share status shortcut
[Improved] 'Search term' option added to marketplace shortcut
[Improved] Performance and user interface improvements
[Fixed] Send SMS app bar button now works correctly
[Fixed] Shortcut to invalid web page now shows friendly message
[Fixed] Small shortcut icons are now always displayed correctly
[Fixed] No more crashes when internet connection is unavailable
I hope you like it!

Gesture Control (root)

Please refer to the main thread in Android apps and Games: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535740
I'm developing application that allows you to control tablet with multitouch gestures. Root access is needed. Currently it allows to execute following gestures:
Back:
Swipe 2 fingers from top downward
Home:
pinch 3-4 fingers
Show/Hide status bar:
Swipe 2 fingers from bottom upward
Please try it out and let me know what you think. What other features or actions would be helpful?
You can download it here:

- Added check for USB Debugging
1.2.0
- Added option to switch multitouch/singletouch gestures
- Fixed bug: ROOT permission sometimes was not aquired

There are a lot of requests for status bar hiding widgets or apps. So you just start the application when you need to hide status bar (for example before browsing or gaming). You don't lock your device in the middle of gaming.
In my opinion it is still better than all other bar hiding apps (and I'm talking about free version of my app). You have to click something in all of them (and here you click - start app). Just in my app you have the opportunity to control your tablet while bar is hidden.
But if you think this version is useless, I value your opinion.

I'm developing on 7.7 myself, so it is tested well on it.
You don't get any error messages, notifications on gestures nothing? Does the last button in settings screen (Status bar toggle) works (hides/unhides) status bar?
I'm now using this and works brilliant. Finding the swipe gestures to suit me. Hiding and unhiding status bar no lag. Keep up the good work. Bought full version.

I will add setting to turn off toast message on unlock (when tutorial mode is switched off). However free version will stay for occational use. Application contains a lot of native code that will need support with new versions/devices. And the application is niche anyway. I really tried using this version myself and I find it usefull, but you can propose different model, I'm open for ideas.

Well, there are other apps for this (HideBar - free, Honeybar - 1$), my intention is to evolve the gesture part. Allow to create your own gestures and define your own actions.
Any chance of making the gestures more like the ipad? E.g. 5 finger pinch to home? Its a more natural closing type gesture imo

Changed gestures to multitouch (see first post).
Also fixed a bug that I think prevented actions from working on some devices.
Excellent, thanks!
I just bought it and it recognises my gestures fine but it stopped doing anything after the first gesture?
It still pops up with home etc but doesnt do the action.
If i open the gesture app and disable and reenable the service again it works for one action and stops again

Well I just hope this is not just another Start menu replacement that you already have installed in your Windows Phone. Well it be great if you have another alternative that you can play with..
Here's "Start", yes, that's how simple the application name was.
So what's in this application?
It's a Start menu replacement
You can add your quick lunch application
Intuitive search function
Able to run application
And it's fast
It's a Start menu replacement because I got bored with the native one, scrolling down on the list, or even having a jump function still makes me feel bored.. So I made my own. Don't you like having a 4 column, big icons as a start menu? Well I do
So here's a short video demo of the application
Tap the text on the top-right "JWMD Apps" to see more information
SUPPORT
Windows Phone 7, Mango, Tango. 7.8
TAKE NOTE
THIS MAY NOT WORK ON OTHER ROMS. Am sorry but I couldn't do anything about that. One reason I can think of why will not work is because Application folder, or the Install folder is hidden. Kind of stupid reason but I have already flash 2 different ROMs in my Mozart and 1 reason the application fail is because those folder I mentioned were hidden. so .. sorry.

This looks great! Question though: For those of us who have 7.8, what is the use of this other than the search bar? And is it fast enough on the device to be a seamless replacement? I'll try it out later today when I have WiFi, and if it works without slowing down, I would be very happy

I use 7.8 too and I don't use search bar often (I never really use it), I used to tap on those quick jump letters.
If we talk about "seamless replacement" then no because what's on the start menu list in WP has already loaded in the memory right after you boot your device and it's not like an application that you can just terminate using back button.
You got to know that this is an application. It reads all the installed application just about 2 sec to show the main UI and another couple of seconds to read the icons from the cache. Once you run the application again, you'll have the same duration. Although there's a hidden stuff in my code where it uses a cache list of the applications installed, and the purpose of that is to make the loading faster (not implemented though because it's buggy).
Tried this out today, it works well, and is not too slow. The All Programs screen is absolutely more informative than the default start screen, and it allows you to see much more at a time than the start menu.
Suggested features:
- The ability to reorganize the Start panel.
- A settings menu for options such as adding/removing/renaming/reorganizing panels.
- If that is not possible, perhaps the option to have the Start panel show up on app start instead of the All Programs panel.
Bugs:
- The Results window does not disappear if I don't pick something from it. I tried swiping up and down, as well as left and right.
- Choosing an app, from the screen or search, crashes the app and it returns to the start menu.

Hi NullString. This is very usable application. I am working on similar one, which can group applications (and groups too to tree structure, it is necessary when hundreds apps are installed). Can you try the same? I mean it is not necessary to make two similar application.
Any notes:
1. When I want "pin to start" allready pinned application, program crashes.
2. When I tap to immediatelly last started application, this shows not back. When another one is launched between it, app is showed.
3. You can add "startup" option (after device reset) to your app by creating/deleting link in \windows\startup directory. I am programming launcher to your app in this startup way now (startup link for *.exe can be created by my Phone Commander, but it may be possible to create/delete it for managed dll programmatically).
4. Are you able to make orientation sensor accepted version? Landscape mode is necessary on HTC7Pro. I can also send you simple functions for HTC7Pro cursor keys handling, I am redesign all my programs for keyboard controlling too (also with BT keyboards in future), this is more quickly and comfortable then by touchscreen.
Martin
