Can't find SuperUser (solved) - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi people,
I started customizing my One and I tried to superCID (which didn't work, I guess you need to be S-off for that) but now my bootloader shows as tampered so to get rid of that I tried to get revone installed and it was then when I realized that I might not be rooted.
Anyway, I managed to push SuperUser with the all in one kit and then install it from TWRP and got a successful message but then when I reboot I can't find it in my app drawer.
As far as I remember with my Amaze SuperUser was there but I don't find it in the One.
Can somebody shine some light as where to go from here????
Thanks in advance,
HTC One DE 64Gb

What are you trying to acheive?
Do you want a rooted stock ROM?
In that case, use revone to unlock:
./revone -P
reboot
./revone -u
And then you need custom recovery and flash the superuser zip.

Revone doesn't require root Also you can just flash the SU zip in recovery. I myself prefer SuperSU over SU.

If you need to remove the TEMPERED Status from bootloader, and get back to S-on or keep s-off... you dont need to be rooted.... i did that yesterday by the revone way...worked in the 1st try itself.....

Thanks for the fast replies guys,
I'll try the revone without rooting then...
Edit:
What an idiot I am!!!!! I have SuperSU installed...therefore Iam rooted doh!

Help w/ revone s-off

I currently have a stock rogers htc one on 4.1.2 and hboot 1.44 with stock recovery and s-on.
I've gone through the steps for s-off using revone but it always fails after ./revone -P command. It gets root access successfully and then eventually just reboots the phone. Revone successful is not shown and no error is given.
I have waited 2min or more and restarted the process and it will reboot the phone again after revone -P with no errors.
Weird thing is if I continue with the steps after the reboot and do ./revone -s 0 -u it says successful but it doesn't really do anything as I'm still s-on.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

maybe try to get s-off with hasoon2000's tool, so you can be sure to have the right commands: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183942
Thx for the suggestion but I've tried his tool too. Once again it will reboot after revone -P (prepare for s-off in the tool).

If your boot bootloader is unlocked via HTC dev, try installing a custom recovery and rooted ROM and then s-off. Revone failed for me when I didn't run revone in su adb shell.
Sent from my Nexus 7 2013
installed ARHD and same issue where phone reboots after -P command. both in command prompt and in terminal emulation.
might have to bite the bullet and hope warranty goes through even with tampered in bootloader.

Please let me know if anybody has any suggestion as to how to fix it.
Thank you so much

Hi
Any luck getting your HTC One running 4.1.2 to S-OFF? I've just picked up a Rogers HTC-One which is also running stock 4.1.2 and I'm avoiding the OTA update so that I can S-OFF...but seeing this thread gives me some concern.
Thanks

Try some more. Revone is an exploit. It doesn't work all the time and it doesn't always do what its suppose to. Keep trying till you get lucky.

Because people have lives and don't just waste their time going though hundreds of posts. The mistake was not to search for specifics like : can you s-off on 531.11? However, I accepted the OTA before I even thought about S OFF. And I only thought about S OFF when I wanted to covert it to GE. After I played with GE I am back to leaked htc 4.3 with sense 5.
This week sound silly, but just keep repeating it until it works. Revone works on the Rogers stock firmware.

You could try using a different method, such as moonshine or the one I used, Rumrunner. You might need to use another ROM but I'm not 100% sure if that'll help.

Ive actually tried rumrunner and moonshine as well, cant remember off the top of my head what the errors were, but I can retry tonight after work and post my results. I'm not sure what to suggest, which ROM are you using at the moment, just a normal stock one? I was using ViperOne when I managed to gain S-OFF. I was on HBOOT 1.54.
At what stage of the process do you get the error?

Yep normal stock rom. When I enter:
SU
cd /data/local/tmp
chmod 755
./revone -P
gives me failed: error code -6
never reboots. Ive tried rebooting manually from this point, reopening a command window and moving on to the ./revone -s 0 -u command it says successful but it is still S-on when loading into bootloader

Found this online. http://androidtechy.com/index.php/gadgets/phones/82-htc-one-is-granted-s-off-by-revolutionary.html
Download revone (above) and push it to your device: adb push revone /data/local/tmp/
2. Open an adb shell and:
cd /data/local/tmp
chmod 755 revone
3. (optional) If your device is unlocked and rooted please switch to root using su.
4. Prepare to gain S-OFF by running the command: ./revone -P
Might you have missed the "revone" after the 755 command? Also try switching to superuser again after the chmod command as the link suggests, since you have root it may help.

You mentioned you tried reboot manually and proceeding to s-off. Did you try running revone -P and when it fails, perform a full reboot and running the same command again? I assume your fast boot setting is off and USB debugging on, correct?

Im currently at work, and just running all this thru a terminal command window, but yes fast boot off, usb debugging on.
I guess to do that Id have to be using the PC to do the reboots after putting in the commands.

I've been doing some research and apparently your software was from an OTA update and prevents the S-OFF exploit. You may need to downgrade your version for the s-off methods to work.
Have a look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45487258#post45487258
"The issue is with 1.26.502.15 not HBOOT. Downgrade from 1.26.502.15 to 1.26.502.10 then upgrade to 1.26.502.12. The HBOOT will still be 1.44. (S-OFF using revone works)."
Sounds like a common problem with this software version.

What Can I Do With S-ON?

Sorry for this n00b question, but I have never dealt with s-on before. I acquired s-off and was running custom roms no problem, Then, I had to send the phone in to HTC to fix the purple tint camera issue. So, I went full stock and made the mistake of putting it back s-on. Apparently, I can no longer s-off anymore (please correct me if I am wrong!)
So, now I am stuck with s-on and I have already htcdev unlocked my bootloader (in an attempt to s-off which I only later found out I can't do anymore).
How can I still run custom roms and gain root?
Also, if I do those things, will I still be able to go back and get OTA if I wanted to? Like, will I be able to go back to stock to run an OTA update for kitkat if it comes?
Thanks for the help!

Hi, why can't you S-OFF? Is it due to your updated hboot?
It should be no problem getting S-OFF using rumrunner.
You can get root either by flashing a custom recovery like TWRP which helps you gain root.
Or flash a custom rom like Android Revolution which provides root access after flashing.
If you wan get OTA later on, I believe you have to create a nandroid backup using a custom recovery of your stock
or flash a RUU which requires S-OFF.
Check out the warning in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2431515
Also, I confirmed I can't do it because I unlocked the bootloader but rumrunner keeps giving me an error something like "you need insecure bootloader or root su or fu"
That's why I think I can't s-off anymore.
So I'm just looking for steps to run a custom Rom and gain root access with s-on and also what are my limitations with s-on?
Lastly if I needed to, would I be able to get back stock enough to flash ota?
Please delete this post. Accidental double post.

Nevermind, I just successfully gained S-OFF using rumrunner! I had to htcdev unlock the bootloader AND gain root access and I tried it and it took a while, but it worked!!
In case anyone else has this problem, I had s-off before then i went back s-on and fully stock to get a warranty fix for my camera. When I got it back, I tried to get s-off again by rumrunner, but I kept encountering an error that said "ERROR: looks like device is not rooted AND lacks an unsecure kernel. SU or FU!!"
I did have an unlocked bootloader, so I didn't know why I was getting that. I assumed that my device was no longer able to achieve s-off because according to a post (see post above this) it warned that going back s-on after s-off will result in an non-s-offable device and I didn't encounter this error when I did it the first time.
But, I thought I might as well root it and try again.
I flashed a custom recovery and flashed a superSU zip file to gain root access.
I tried rumrunner again and after a little while, it worked!!

[Q] flashing rom s-on

I have an AT&T variant m7 running 4.1.2 and I'm gonna be unlocking, flashing tarp, and rooting. I am looking to install the newest viperone Rom and am wondering if I can do this s-on or not, I've read some stuff that says I have to flash boot.img after and some that says before, and others that say I don't need that step at all! I just wanna get this straightened out so I don't screw up. Any help would be appreciated and if there are any other suggestions I'd be happy to hear them
Thank you.

So after I unlock bootloader, flash twrp, and root, once I get s-off, do I need to re-flash the stock recovery before flashing RUU, then flash twrp again then flash viper? At first it didn't boot in recovery, just booted up normally but it worked the second time, after rooting root checker said I didn't have proper root but after rebooting again it says it is rooted. I'm not sure why you want to S-off. You have now unlocked, changed recovery, and rooted. You can simply download viper one rom and flash it from recovery. You dont need to flash any boot.img for m7. I hope that helps. If you still want to S-off use rumrunner. revone is not supported for bootloader that comes with 4.1.2. Do note that you cannot s-on again once you s-off the device.

I was getting s-off because I was told to get s-off so I could flash the 3.17 ruu to update my hboot/ touchscreen drivers and radio before flashing viper, which I figured so viper would run smoother. I'm a noob just getting into modding. Well after failing with revone, rumrunner, and firewater I went ahead and flashed viper, and everything was fine. I can't help be bugged by the fact that you told me to get s-off and flash that ruu to get the updated radio and touchscreen drivers, I read that I need a 4.2 Rom to get revone to work so I am gonna give it another try. I tried running firewater with ARHD and it said that it had an anti-firewater patch. So I am just curious as to what the importance of having the updated hboot, radio, and touchscreen drivers. I just feel like I should still get it done since u told me not to skip that step, not to mention later on down the line when I get more familiar with all of this dev and modding stuff I might want to do other things that require a-off. Thanks for all your help and info . Before I continue with it I made a backup of viper with the setting and themes I've set up, after I get s-off and flash the ruu, should I 're-flash the Rom or can I restore my backup with out changing any of the updated software, I didn't think the Rom would have anything to do with it but I just wanna make sure. Thanks

you can restore your backup with the new firmware
for firewater you needed ARHD + ElementalX kernel
it mark just fine with the ViperOne rom also
Revone only works on hboot 1.44 and android 4.1.2 and/or 4.2.2

Do you think firewater will work with viper+Elemental X kernel? If I used the same guide as with ARHD. I tried to s-off with revone by flashing a 4.2.2 viper Rom but I lost all signal and service, so I restored my backup. Also I was wondering since I'm running the 3.17 ruu to update radio and stuff , should I use the 4.18 ruu since its newer? Thanks again for all the help.
UPDATE: Well ran firewater since coudnt get revone to work , took all of like 45 seconds and it said device is s-off. Couldn't believe it after all the trouble I've had.Awesome!

[Q] S-off hboot 1.56 confusion

I am currently using ViperRom 7.02 with ElementalX kernel.
I am S-on. hboot 1.56
Currently i was trying to S-off with this combination using rumrunner method , but it goes to pouring 8 times and in the end it tells me to wait 30 seconds before turning the device back on (even though it never shuts down) and running rumrunner again. I have done this several times to no avail.
I tried firewater method too but it didn't work.
I followed these commands -
adb reboot
adb wait-for-device push firewater /data/local/tmp
adb shell
su
chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/firewater
/data/local/tmp/firewater
Nothing happens after last step.
1 .So the question is do i need to go back to nearly stock Rom like ARHD to even try this S-off method. I see v84 of the Rom which is 4.4.3 sense with Sense 6 or do i need to go to older Rom?
2 . Or can S-off method can work after flashing CM or it is necessary to flash Sense ROM only?
3. I was very much interested in running Sense 6 on top of lollipop but read Lollipop not booting because we need to update firmware to latest to run it otherwise it won't boot. Can anyone confirm this ?

The only way I could get S-off was with Sunshine. You need to have stock sense 4.4.3 rom and stock kernel for it to work.
