Hi
To my amazement the ONE doesnt seem to work with thin cleanroom gloves on, as the ONE-S allready did quite well !
Is there a way to increase the sensitivity?
Do some custom roms have a better value for this?
Thanks.
4.2.2-based ROMs having much better touchscreen sensitivity and responsiveness because they are based on 2.17 firmware rather than 1.28 (which is horrible when it come sto that) and 1.29.

I have a Touch currently and I’m thinking of getting the Diamond. One of the many things I didn’t like about the Touch is how hard you have to press the screen. Does the Diamond screen have the same issue? Or is it more like the iPhone screen.
I have the 200mhz version of the Touch and I find it a bit sluggish sometimes. Although the Diamond has a 582mhz I’ve read a couple of reviews that state it’s sluggish at times, have you guys experienced this?
Thank you.
The screen is very responsive to my touch.
However, I have ran the application "Diamond Tweaks".
It allows you to change the sensitivity, and also has an option for TouchFlo3D speed.
Overall I barely notice any sluggishness unless I'm running many programs.
Either search the forum or google it, it's readily available.

Do you know if the Diamond screen is as hard to press as the Touch screen?
I have them both. Diamond is a little more responsive to the touch but nothing earth shattering. Speed is about the same if you're running 6.1 on your Touch.
The resolution is where the upgrade comes in. If you put the Diamond side by side with the Touch, it's like comparing a standard TV with rabbit ears to a High Definition LCD...
Now, if all you're looking for is a fast phone and don't care too much about the screen resolution, go for a Touch 3G as this has been described as one of the fastest and most responsive WM phones ever.

Have them both too, and too answer your question: NO, you dont have to press at all on the diamond, screen is much better then the touch, hope it helps.

I actually think the difference is quite noticecable between the two.
On the diamond I can actually press very very lightly using my finger while on the Touch I found myself having to poke at it sometimes with the finger nail - but as compared to the iphone it's definitely not as sensitive as they are two different beasts in that regards.
I feel I should mention I have the US 3G Diamond from sprint, and yes it is extremely responsive, quite amazing actually.

I played with the touch(for a month) and own the Diamond for almost 6 month now.
They are on a totally different level. Everything is better on the Diamond, except the batts.
The screen is double in resolution compared to most phones out there, once you go Diamond VGA screen you cant go back.
Screen is very responsive and I must say after some quick tweaks under da hood you are looking at a very responsive screen and device.
You wont regret it for a second if you switch.
Greets.

Not entirely true, I'd gladly turn in VGA for QVGA to speed things up really. And the new HTC Touch phones seem to be way more responsive than the first/older models.
That being said, I went from a HTC Touch (one of the first) to a HTC Diamond. The difference was indeed almost day and night (so to speak).
I've played with some newer Touch models, and it has improved quite a bit (or I just had a 'lucky' model which was very responsive). Still, the Diamond has a really nice Touchscreen.
Also the VGA is/was very nice (especially at the beginning), but now the lack of speed starts to annoy me.
Reason for me to start looking at the Touch 3G and the Asus P552w. Where the Asus is the preferred one at the moment since benchmarks (see here and here) show that little thing rocks.
And I've kinda lost faith in HTC and their Qualcomm drivers. That Asus phone really looks like it could be one of the fastest and smallest wm6.1 devices out there. But I can only tell you for sure once I've given it a testrun myself .
Edit:
To come back to the HTC Touch 3G speed compared to the Asus P552w, it could be nice to compare the following two benchmarks made by the same site:
HTC Touch 3G Benchmark (half way down)
Asus P552w Benchmark
As you can see in my profile my ROM version, so I don't know if I have one of the good HTC touch or not.
The screen on my Touch has weird colors on it and I'm wondering to get it fixed (my warranty runs out on Jan 7, 2009 so in 1 week) or should I do a hardware upgrade to the Diamond.
Why not get it fixed in warranty ánd perhaps get a Diamond? That way you at least have a good Touch you could sell or something.
Unless they give you a Diamond in exchange, but I very much doubt that.
Is this a common thing known about? The response is not too bad using my fingers, but when using the stylus to move right hand side scroll bars up and down, or to close a window with the 'x' or 'ok' it's nowhere near as responsive as my artemis, and the interfaces on both phones are practically identical. Even doing taps for screen alignment requires much harder pressing than on the artemis. Is there a way to improve the response or does the screen 'wear in' after time and make things faster? The only thing that helped so far was removing the screen protector which seemed to dull the responses even more.
I haven't owned an artemis, but the diamond has the worst screen sensitivity out of the many device's I've had before it,advanced configuration adjustment does nothing that I could feel.....I did read somewhere that they use a harder or thicker screen cover because of it being flush and more prone to damage, which would make sense, but, combined with it's sluggish speed, equal's a device I find barely usable, which is a shame because it has such a nice looking screen.
BTW I'm talking about stylus use, which is mainly what I use 99% of the time.
Yeah, I'd heard about it's bad touch response from someone that owned a diamond and has now put it on ebay. And frankly, as nice looking as it is and with all it's cool new features, I think the artemis is a better phone, slightly bigger screen, more user friendly and far less confusing and fiddly. I can get around my older phone faster with the simpler menus and scroll wheel, and also, the volume in tomtom 6 at 100% on the diamond is much quieter than on the artemis. However, there's a screen sensitivity hotfix that someone posted in the Development and Hacking forum. I was trying to find out which one of the cab files he posted is best for my phone. Has anyone in here tried it for the T-Mobile Compact 4?
This is the thread:

Thanks. Might try it, although, I now installed the iTouch_azharsunny.cab from the development and hacking forum and it seems to have increased the sens quite well. The scroll bar is still not quite as sensitive as my old phone, but quite acceptable mostly.
Does upgrading the HBOOT help with the wonky touchscreen heat-related miscalibration issues that every Nexus owner knows about?
I raised this question on a different thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=903975&page=9
but wanted to throw this question out to a larger audience.
This week I finally got tired of having intermittent but definitive touchscreen miscalibrations, usually associated with charging and/or heavy usage. HTC shipped a swap for me to use.
The new one works pretty well, except the camera takes pinkish tinged images, so it unfortunately will be going back. However, I noticed that the HBOOT is the newer 0.35.0017 (though the date displayed by the bootloader screen is Jun 14, 2010).
So I upgraded the HBOOT on my original N1, and have been trying hard to reproduce the touchscreen craziness. So far I've been unable to do it.
It's difficult for me to make it happen on demand. I "stress tested" it essentially by doing the things that normally bring it on, GPS with charger, and graphics intensive games. But I'm getting really tired of beating angry birds again and again =P
So, if you're still experiencing touchscreen wonkiness that is fixed by turning on and off the screen, which HBOOT do you have?
There are of course many other potential mitigating factors I've thought about. Custom ROMS. Kernels. Touchscreen protector. Radio version.
Just for completeness, there are different part numbers on the two:
Original N1 part # 99hke002-00 F
Replacement N1 part # 99hke002-01
Who knows what the significance of that is.
No it doesn't.
Well shucks, I'm finding it harder and harder to get my touchscreen to screw up. I guess I should be glad!
How often does yours go off?
You know, as strange as it sounds, since I upgraded to the 0.35 HBOOT about a month ago, I have had zero issue with the digitizer. Call it coincidence, but that is what's happening so far.
We will call it coincidence for now =)
A happy coincidence.

Not very often, in fact think it hadn't done it over the past week. I've been using the crap out of it customizing CM7 over this weekend and no hiccups.
our touch screen is always a hardware problem..
That's not the question. The question is if you're still having a lot of problems with your touch screen, which hboot do you have?
I was actually kinda wondering the same thing. I finally got around to putting on CM7 (build 39) on Friday (coming from CM 6.1). I right away had the impression that the screen was more responsive (the notification drop-down bar tipped me off) and I have not had a single episode of wonkiness with the screen since. CM 6.1 was a little weird for me and I had screen issues (especially the drop-down).
Oh well, even if it isn't the HBOOT, something has changed for the better for now
Another thing I learned recently is that on the native google navigation app, there seems to be a touchscreen dead zone directly vertical in the center of the screen (in landscape mode at least). It basically corresponds to the current street you're on if your navigation is active and your path is straight ahead.
So if you touch there and try to shift the screen around, you might mistakenly think the whole screen is awry. I think this is by design.
I'm not sure why it's there but it reliably is unresponsive to drags. So I'm not using that center area to gauge if my screens gone wonky.
Now if you hit the menu button, the buttons centrally do respond to taps.
Just had my first case of misregistering digitizer in a while. But instead of the whole bottom 1/3 of the screen going stupid it was just the bottom right corner, around the enter button/backspace if you have a portrait keyboard.
Oh well, it still works better than stock eclair!
So just as an update, the HBOOT definitely does not rid the digitizer issues plaguing everyone. It seems actually that my kernel had more of say in when/how often the issue surfaces.
I found that on Enom's Froyo ROM, problems arose more often with stock Enom than Pershoot or Wildmonks. However, each kernel has its own benefits.
Ok, I came across two problems running GB.
First: Ambient Light Sensor! Does this thing even work?! It doesn't dim the screen ever! I've installed some app to register values from ALS and they're changing just fine (higher in sun and lower in the dark) but screen brightness if at all changes only to higher (brighter)... I didn't see the screen getting dimmer once. FYI I use N1 for "just" 3 months now and the same issue I saw on 2.2.x official builds. More disturbing is, that I've red somewhere that it's "by design", but can anyone explain to me why?? What's the purpose of having ALS if it just can't help you save battery and dim screen? Does your work as it should?
Second: When I'm answering phone call I'm not heard for about 1-3 seconds. Meanwhile I hear little crack noise in earphone and then everything is back to normal. Here I'm sure it didn't occur in 2.2.x. I've noticed in when I flashed custom GB build and now same situation after wiping and installing gri40 from stock frg83g. Any thoughts, suggestions and experiences are very welcome, because it's kind of irritating I don't believe that it's some kind of "feature" of N1, because I just know that it didn't happen on 2.2.x just couple of days ago! Could it just broke?
Thank you in advance for posts and I'm sorry about any grammar/vocabulary mistakes. English is not my native language. (I did my best )
Come on guys, please Nobody had any issues with ambient light sensor?
Any thoughts are welcome

first, this thread is not the same with the one titled multitouch lag/issues. i think mine is different. Just recently my galaxy ace touchscreen became unresponsive, i mean the touchscreen doesnt work and i have to repeatedly press an item inorder to select it. the phone boots up pretty fast and when the touch screen works sometimes the transition effect is fluid thats why i think its not related with the processors speed. i have tried reflashing another custom rom and flashing through odin but its still unresponsive. and im pretty sure that i havent dropped my phone in the past few days. what could be the reason behind its unresponsiveness? and anyone knows how to solve this thing?
Reply
Did you put screen protectors on your ace especially the ‘’fingerprint-less screen protector''? that can decrease the sensitivity of the touchscreen or you can try applying patches to improve the sensitivity of the touchscreen. Most probably the touchscreen is somehow damaged. But remember, our phone's touchscreen isn't good enough as the armv7 devices. hope it helps!
