Regarding Technical problem
Hi ,
I am porting android os (2.3) on raspberry pi but I am getting some commands on the screen end by rainbow color screen . I changed the config text file in android os by hdmi (groups and modes) but still getting same . If you have any config text working with android os post here based on that I will change the modes and groups in hdmi.

Can we make a new flavor of Android?

I see some devs tweak Kernels and all to make what they have faster, and other devs work on porting other device builds but is anyone talented enough to build a Frankenstein droid?
The leaked Sholes screen shots running 2.0 kinda seem like it will be a whole new UI experience while using the device but the GUI is all still there, can we have some fun and start making different GUI's for Android?
There's the app drawer, task bar, three screens etc etc.
Why not mix and match if we can?
The Pulse's Wizcards and 3x3 display of home screens and the pull down notfication of new messages
The Blur's happening widget
Move the notification bar to the bottom
Put the app tab only on one screen
etc?
i would like to see someone make a whole new os on these android phones so we can say f u to google, maybe a full out linux distro based of debian like moblin

I think a major thing about making a new OS would be its incompatibility with the Android market and apps, I'd like to see a new GUI working with the Android apps.
if you got it debian based than you have way more options but a new os that worked with android apps would be the ****, i would love a awesome new os with compatibility
I might have to be an asshole and post this in Android Development section to catch some devs eyes.
Ive heard it may be possible to port ubuntu's mobile os to the g1....if that can be done, the sky's the limit
GNOME or KDE port would be AWESOME!!! Would most likely run REALLLLYYYYYY slow...

Flipped Ports: Help needed!

Hey!
There has been a change for the new saucy releases:
In the original porting guide, we had Android as the main OS, having Ubuntu separated in a container. We had that as our first solution as it's easier to just boot Android and bootstrap Ubuntu once Android is up and running (which was a base requirement for Touch). This architecture was traditionally called 'unflipped', and it's part of the raring and first saucy images we produced.
As we continued developing the platform, more issues we found with such architecture, making it harder to improve the quality for the Ubuntu side (ueventd x udev, full control of the services, upgradability of the compat layer, etc). So to be able to further improve the Touch images, we decided to flip the systems, making Ubuntu as the main host, and separating Android in a container, getting us to what we call 'flipped' images.

So it seems like just few of the ports are working at the moment! Help is needed to port the new images again.
I ask myself if i'm able to make a new port for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (3110). How difficult is it?

[Q] raspberry pi with android

hi guys looking for android os thats runs on raspberry pi please..
None, that are usable
Why do you want to install Android on the Raspberry Pi ? There are a lot of applications that works well on the Raspberry Pi.
However in this section there are some interesting threads like this one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/hardware-hacking/raspberry-pi/rd-android-4-4-4-t2816952
It would be great if we can install Android on Raspberry Pi

Not in a near future... maybe never. Read the existing threads.
Well with ARM 7 they might be a chance for Android with RPI 2

Personally I'm more interested in the upcoming Android Auto. Android is nice because it can be easily adapted as a Car PC and there are already great navigation apps, and other apps which are all designed for the touch screen interface.
I could do linux with XBMC, which I may just do, but the Android system just seems more of a fit.

That is exactly what I am looking to do for my car. It already have the Microsoft Sync system in it, but I think Android auto would work better for the most part. I am thinking about installing it in a way where I could have both systems and have the output from Android auto run through the speakers, and also adding a bluetooth OBD2 adapter to monitor the cars internal systems. Sync does a poor job at that. If everything is running smoothly it only says that, without going into any detail.
Get the new Pi 2 model B. Microsoft is going to be releasing a port of Windows 10 for it... Hopefully have some apps to take advantage of Microsoft Sync

Already ordered mine. Hopefully the 2 systems will tie together but I heard Ford is going with Blackberry for its new Sync systems and dropping Microsoft. http://microsoft-news.com/ford-substitutes-microsoft-for-blackberry-for-the-new-sync/

[Q] Could the Remix OS be ported to Droid 4 for use with a Lapdock?

Hi,
I just discovered Remix OS on Kickstarter, which sounds like an improved version of Webtop. Based on Android 4.4.2, with a Taskbar and improved multi tasking where you can switch through apps like with Alt-Tab and show tiles of running apps on the desktop. That actually sounds great for the use of a Lapdock, which I just recently got.
Now the developers offer it for a pledge of only 1 dollar and I'm thinking about pledging, but only the Nexus 9 and 10 are officially supported.
So that got me thinking, if I buy the ROM for 1 dollar, there should be a way to customize it to run with our Droid 4, right? Does anyone know how to do that or could help/teach me how to do it?
Just asking, if anyone else too thinks that this could be an interesting addition to an existing Lapdock. Now that I got CM12 running on the safe slot, the rom slot 1 would be free to test it there.
For those interested in the OS, here is a video, because the kickstarter site seems to focus more on their tablet.
Best regards and thanks in advance!
Probably not, probably android have bug and thats why lapdock doesnt work very well

Which bug are you referring to?
The Lapdock 500 works fine for me, I just boot to stock slot and then Webtop activates itself automatically.
On stock it works perfect (but Remix OS is not stock)
But if you want use any other system or phone with Android - it doesn't work propertly (it works, but you have only part of your screen)

Like that
And if you connect for example - Samsung Galaxy Note 2 - you still have it
But if you connect for example - computer, console or Miracast - you have full working screen
https://robpol86.com/lapdock/Atrix-Lapdock-with-a-Laptop/
I think it is a Android bug
Fervi
Why should it be a bug in Android? It works with the stock ROM, which is Android 4.1 or so. Clearly it's not a bug but something special Motorola put into that ROM, which prevents it from running if it's missing. Or maybe it just doesn't work for more recent Android version because something changed or was removed in those versions.
For non-Android-devices like a Rasberry Pi: Of course those work, because if you break it down, it's just an hdmi screen, usb keyboard and usb mouse. Those things have standard drivers in windows and linux, that's why they work.
Now this standard drivers also exist for Android, so my guess is, that Motorola somehow blocked it, but apparently people got it to work with a Samsung Galaxy S3, so it can't be an Android bug.
So maybe it is protected for Android devices, but all other (Miracast, Windows, Linux etc) works
But remember - Android have forked Linux kernel and on Linux it is working, so it is very "interesting"
Fervi
I think the problem is, only motorola and the HDMI driver on webtop is able to output a resolution different from the phone screen. CM12 for example is able to mirror the screen just fine, but only in native resolution to the phone (960x540). It would require specific software for this phone to get a different output resolution, kinda like re-writing Webtop.
Its not impossible, but I dont think its easy either, and I have no idea on how to do it.
It is possible to change resolution in phone from 960x540 to 1366x768
But you cannot resize Android on fullscreen

Only stock rom do that
