Hi Folks,
I have installed the Pure Vanila V5 ROM from here. And immediately flashed the CoCore-E-6.8-CWM Kernel using UKF. The combination looks pretty good to me except a few things mentioned below.
1. The font colour in some of the settings menu has turned white. The solution to solve it as per the link above is to update the framework with a seperate framework.apk, i tried that, but i am getting an error message that 'Aplication not installed'. does anyone know a workaround for this.
2. Secondly i like to install the Stock Samsung Music Player. I found the apk file in the above link and also from many other links in XDA, but when i try to install the apk, the error message 'Aplication not installed' pops up.
3. I also tried to install the TouchWiz Launcher using the apk downloaded from the above link, but the same error.
Are these errors a result of Pure Vanila with CoCore-E-6.8-CWM combination? Why i am not able to install these apps. however there is no problem in installing apps from play store.
Please Help

2. & 3. Push apks to system/app. You can't install system apps in the way you install non-system.

framework-res.apk
Thanks for the prompt reply.
On the 1st point i am refering to 'framework-res.apk' which the developer of the Pure Vanila ROM has included as a seperate package. Can i put this file also on the system/app folder. As per the developer, the purpose if this tweak is to resolve an issue with the font colours in some of the settings option.
And on second and third point, I have copied the apks in the system/app folder. Now i guess the next step is to wipe the dalvik cache; so that, after a reboot i can see the app in my app drawer. Am i correct?
regards,
fred

No, framework-res.apk goes into system/framework folder. Rename the old one and push the new one. Then delete the old one and restart. You need to do nandroid backup first is anything goes wrong.

Please note that the fixed framework has a new bug - it gives you split settings window as if in tablet mode.
If you like it, then good, but if you don't you need to push back the old framework.

I pulled it from another thread but its working. There was an issue with the auto correction but it was resolved. Just make sure wherever you pull from has it corrected (ie, the file I downloaded had _fixed in the name)

working install
I had issues with cwm failing to up date as well. So after some google fu I managed to get a working install.
1. Download the file found in this thread.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864033
2. Power down and reboot into cwm.
3. Select mounts and storage and then select mount system.
4. Install zip from sd and select the zip from step one.
5. Reboot and enjoy.
6. In settings>language&keyboard there should now be an option for android keyboard. Open the browser and long press the url bar. You should get a popup allowing you to select the android keyboard.
Does this "IMPORTANT NOTE: this ZIP file is a ClockWork Recovery update file ==> DO NOT USE IT !!! (it will remove your system odex files) Just unzip and grab the APK and SO files." apply to the G-Tablet too? That thread talks about SO files and stuff too. I take it nothing bad happened when you flashed it?

At first I tried the install with just the apk and so files and it didn't work for me.
As far as .Odex files I haven't seen any at all in the root folder.
So far I haven't had any fc's or issues what so ever.

I followed wingman_214s instructions and it worked perfect for me. No issues so far.
Ok. I'll take the plunge. Thanks.
EDIT: Took the plunge. Typing on it now and liking it so far. Thanks for the help.

I followed the instructions above ands while I can see the android keyboard under settings, clicking on the URL space on my browser only pops up the starndard TnT keyboard. How long do I need to engage the URL space? I would like to test it.
Try the google search bar. Just press and hold you should get a pop up. Select "input method" the android keyboard should be an option.
i'm curious as to why people prefer this keyboard over the stock TnT keyboard. the TnT has bigger keys. the gingerbread has these small little "half" keys. annoying to type on. or do other roms not have that keyboard?
Hi, I´m using Darky´s Gingerbread ROM and there isn´t any "Write and Go" application.
I want this application back because it´s really easy to post something to the facebook wall. Could you please someone copy this application from the system and put it here for download for me?
EDIT: Please I need it :/ the installer apk from /system/app would be just fine

I have got it from XWJS5 in Romkitchen.
Thanks, but it seems it isn´t working for me. I get "Application not installed." error message :/
I think you have to copy it directly in /system/app/ with rootexplorer (after mounting system R/W)

I tried it, it doesn´t copy anything.
Try to download it from Romkitchen as an update.zip then flash it with CWM!
quick question Gerusz,
when i goto romkitchen, click on galaxy s, then on generate, then on the apps tab, then select only flash and go, it tells me that if i dont select a launcher my phone wil be unusable. How to i create an update.zip that ISN"T trying to replace my entire ROM?
thanks in advance!
Hey I have the same problem, using darky rom and i couldnt find this app anymore. Any solution yet? been searching for quite some time
I know this is an old thread, but just thought that you guys on darky ROM should know that all of these apps are available and installed on your phone on your SD card. They will be in a folder for darkyROM and they will be saved in system/apps within that folder. You use and always should use the darkyROM tool available from the market and it will add or remove any system app you want and it backs them up (so if you remove something you shouldn't you can re-install again) and also it does the same for user apps too. It has now been suceeded by the darkyOTA application though which provides Over The Air updates for ROM related stuff. All support and info is located on the darkyROM forums to check out
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. I recently installed Simplicity 1.5 (JVT odexed) on my phone, and also touchwiz 4.5. However, I cannot access live wallpapers at all. Now I know Simplicity rom doesn't include them as default, so I used the add on creator to put in the livewallpaperpicker.apk & .odex via cwm but still no joy (it appeared to unpack the files but I can't add a wallpaper - they either forceclose or say the option isn't available). I then tried pushing both files into the system/app folder on my phone, which it has done successfully, but even after a reboot - still no live wallpapers.
I'm not sure if it's TW4.5 that's causing the problem or simplicity, but I think it may be the former. I've checked in the system/app folder and both files are there, but trying to install the apk via my phone just results in the 'not installed' message. Any assistance would be kindly appreciated.
Thanks!
Well I've removed touchwiz 4.5 and still am not able to install live wallpapers, so it must be something to do with simplicity rom I guess. It's a shame, because it seems to be a really nice rom, and I know from reading the developers thread that other people appeared to have been able to install the live wallpapers via the add on creator so not really sure what I'm doing wrong...
Update: Well installing all of the missing files from Simplicity (linked here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18268152&postcount=1695) seems to have sorted out the problem. The CWM mentions something about permissions when installing - you don't get that message using the stand alone add on creator created zip so I guess it could be something to do with that. I purposefully didn't go this route because the only thing I wanted to install was the live wallpapers, but hopefully I should just be able to delete the other apps that I don't need.
Thanks for everyone who read, I'm posting my solution in case anyone else stumbles across this problem.
yeh had the same problem with the latest 2.1.0, worked a treat after restoring the missing apps. cheers
I have the same problem.I cant see the live wallpapers menu.
I downloaded the zip file from the link above that contains all the removed apps but it didnt work.
What should I do? I installed the visulizationwallpapers.apk but didnt fix the problem.
The other .odex file cant run.
Any ideas?

For deleting unwanted apps just open the zip file, navigate to /system/app and wipe out all apks/odex files you don't need.
CWM Recovery have an option to fix permissions - give it a try
Are you using 1.5 or 2.1? Let me know if this works for you.
I'm wanting to install the current version of the AOKP rom onto my note, but i noticed (after I flashed - boh) that there's an FC problem with the included launchers on that rom.
In the instructions they suggest using ADB to push novalauncher's apk file out to your device, but that seems needlessly complex to me when I could just (in theory) bundle the app into the .zip before I flash.
Is there any reason I can't insert the nova.apk into the AOKP.zip file (in /system/app as i understand it), zip it back up, flash the .zip as per normal AOKP instructions and proceed on my merry way?
Is it that simple? Do I need to mess around with chmodding the apk file or should the fact that it's in /system do that stuff for me?
FWIW I have tried this, but got some problems with having lost root between flashes (stupid ICS root) and that caused me some problems and a lot of high-heartrate moments trying to flash back to a working RocketRom build.
I'd rather do it 'properly' with accurate information about what I'm doing before I try again.
Appreciate the assistance.
I am to faceing the same problem but on other device

I open the ROM zip up and add .apks to the /system/app/ folder all the time..I also delete the ones I know I can and won't use..
There are some apps that won't work like this but its very uncommon..For example I can never include quickpic I always have to manually install it from the market.

One more question - as far as launcher apps go, is there any way to set the default launcher in the .zip file?
If I delete the pre-existing launcher app from the rom in question and add nova.apk should it set itself as the default launcher app automatically?

---------- Post added at 09:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:37 PM ----------
And ive heard "the TouchWiz launcher included in the rom has hardware acceleration for better graphics performance while the launchers we use like GO LAUNCHER etc depends totally on cpu. They consume cpu power only and no GPU"
IS THAT SO??????????????
that would not mean a good thing
cause GO launcher or n other launcher are way better than Stock TWiz launcher.
I don't want someone to do all the work for me, but if anyone could direct me to some kind of resource with the relevant syntax and such that'd be amazing.

You can delete any launcher in the original zip and replace it with Nova and it will work. You don't need any script to do that, as suggested before.
thanks chasmodo - this worked flawlessly.
Hi,
I found a topic which helped people to get their original stock rom swype back in their custom rom.
I tried the same but it didn't work for me. One part of the process is checking in build.prop that the ro.product.brand is the same in the original stock rom and in the custom rom. Which is so for my custom rom and the stock rom i've downloaded.
However, I saw that the build.prop from the stock rom uses GT-S5830 as type for the other lines like:
ro.product.model=GT-S5830
ro.product.name=GT-S5830
ro.product.device=GT-S5830
ro.product.board=GT-S5830
and that my custom rom has cooper there instead of GT-S5830. I added the lines above to my build.prop, hoping that this would solve the issue.
Unfortenately, it doesn't. When I select swype, there's no language available. I've checked in the apk file and alle the language files are there so it seems that swype blocks usage of it.
When I select swype, I get this message:
"the swype package you installed is configured for another device and will operate with limited functionality."
I'm using cm 7.2. the ultimate and extracted swype from this sammobile stock rom:
S5830XWKTQ_S5830VITKT2_S5830XWKT8_HOME
Can someone tell me/help me with isolating the problem? Why does swype still not recognise my device as GT-S5830?

installing from google play (or even amazon app store) would be an option when they would add PayPal support to pay for the app.
As long as I need to have a credit card, I cannot buy anything from Google Play or Amazon App store.
Therefore, I am hoping there is a solution for the difference in the build.prop file...
perhaps to include it in the zip file from the custom rom, but Im affraid the problem persists as the build.prop is still different.
I still hope the builde of this rom can send me his stock swype and libswypecore.so files...
Or is there another solution for this? (adjusting build.prop and inserting the lines with GT-S5830 was not one)
