[Q] Google Edition sounds fade in - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've reported on this a few times in the rom threads, but I figured it'd be a good idea to post here as well. Sounds in the Google Edition fade in when having been idle for a time. This is most easily observed in the dialer. When you press a number, you can hear the sound fading in, instead of presenting at full volume. This is also very obvious in the game "What's the Phrase?" where all sounds suffer under this problem.
I took a brief logcat and hopefully captured all the events associated with it. Would a developer be able to delve into it and see why sounds are not presenting at full volume immediately?

This sounds oddly similar to the volume drop issues people have observed on CM/AOSP-based ROMs. Sorry I don't have more info than that.

It's not. The only happens when the speakers have been idle. The other happens even if the speakers haven't been idle.

[Q] Speaker 'pop' noise?

I haven't seen this posted here, but it seems to be pretty prevalent on the Amazon.com forum(s) for the KFHD.
Every now and then, when I wake the KFHD, presumably from a deep sleep, the speaker makes a pop sound, like when you restart a stereo or computer hooked up to a powered sub. Seems like a lot of people have this happen. I wanna say it started after i removed the ads from the lockscreen but can't be certain. I'm pretty sure it's a software issue that could be fixed with a patch as everything seems fine otherwise.
Hasn't caused an issue, but I see it leading to a problem down the road. What's the warranty on this? 1 year? Are warranty claims handled through Amazon regardless of where the device was purchased (Best Buy?)
I have it. Haven't removed the ads, but am rooted. I thought it was because I dropped it, but now I guess not...

This has been posted in the questions section. Multiple people including myself have noticed this issue. People reported this happening if the volume is set middle to high. No reason as to why but possibly software related bug.

It's a common occurrence for me, on power off and reboot. I suspect that it is a driver issue. It's almost as though the power to the speaker amplifier is being powered down abruptly. Amazon support knows of the problem, and as usual, they thanked me for reporting it and said that their technicians were working diligently to find a resolution.
Happens all the time to me too

2 Nexus 4 Issues That Need to Be Addressed

After using the Nexus 4 for 24 hours, I have found I have two gripes with this phone. The first is there is no audible alert if you receive a text message while on a call. In other words, if someone sends you a text message while you are on a call, you will not be made aware of it until you turn on the screen and look at it. The other gripe I have is the call waiting beep is almost completely inaudible, and the second beep sometimes doesn't even occur. In other words, if you are on a phone call, and a second call comes in, you most likely will not know about it and thus will not be know to answer the call. Today I have missed several phone calls because I was on the phone and a call waiting beep could not be heard. As an experiment, I got on a call and then called my phone from a third phone just to hear the volume of the call waiting beep...it is so low it may as well not be there. To make matters worse, after the first beep, the second beep takes so long to occur, your voicemail may likely pick it up either right before or right after the second beep occurs.
Software, not nexus 4 issue. I'm sure there's an app or will be implemented into ROM to solve your problem.

The software comes stock on the Nexus 4 thus it is a Nexus 4 issue. Not being alerted to a second call isn't something that can be easily excused with, "there's an app or will be implemented into a ROM". A person shouldn't need to install apps or hack their phone just so they can know when a second call is coming in...after all it's a smartPHONE..
Sms issue can be solved with a 3rd party Sms app the call beep not so big of an issue to me so that's all I can say.

Maybe not being alerted of calls isn't a big deal to you, but there are some of us that get important calls throughout the day, and not being alerted to them is not acceptable. Call me old-fashioned but I expect a phone to actually be able to handle phone duties, and alerting me to a second call is one of those duties. That's a pretty basic expectation, and a glaring flaw that needs to be corrected.

I'm guessing you've set the phone to vibrate for incoming messages?

It's clear I like the phone? I haven't stated how I feel about the phone besides the two issues I have with it. Also, for your information, complaining is how issues get resolved because it brings it more attention. Some of us aren't content with resting on our laurels and accepting the subpar. Furthermore, 3rd party software should not be required just to get simple basic functionality. Instead of excusing shortcomings, you should be demanding a complete device. Also, to be clear, I want to like the phone and want to see it succeed. I have a vested interest in it (which I won't get into publicly), so it actually benefits me for it to be a good phone and do well. That said, if it's falling short somewhere then it needs to be corrected and not just covered up.

It's set to have both an audible alert and vibrate on incoming messages. The problem is, during a phone call, neither of these things happens. There literally is no alert during a phone call other than the icon on the screen. In other words, if you don't happen to be looking at your screen, you will never know you have a text message if you are on a phone call.

I'm sure if this is a common problem on devices, Google will probably update it and fix the problem. You can always contact Google and let them know as well.

First of all, it's not a Nexus 4 issue, it's a 4.2 issue.
Second of all, I doubt Google would remove a feature they have had since...idk 2.2(the first version of Android I had). Try a restore, or mess with the settings...or maybe you're holding it wrong.

Personally, I find it to be *incredibly* annoying and pretty much ruins the experience of using this otherwise good phone. I have already been to the Sprint store to possibly exchange it, but their demo unit had the exact same problem (and the employee I was talking to had also noticed the problem). I have also ran "getevent -lt /dev/input/event6" from adb shell (/dev/input/event6 seems to be the raw output of the touchscreen, some people said it is event5 on theirs rather than event6). This shows you raw data every time you touch the screen. However I noticed that when my touches of the home button go undetected, nothing is read from /dev/input/event6...so I am afraid it may be a hardware problem. I have 11 more days before my 14 day Sprint satisfaction period ends, so I'm on the fence on whether or not I should return it and wait for a better phone, or exchange it and probably get another with the same problem, or...wait for HTC to try to fix it with software.
Some have said a recent update to the Taiwan version of the One solved the problem...:

Thank you for retrieving the information for me, [xxxxxx]. I did some research and there will be an MR update to fix this issue with the virtual keys. Most likely what you are actually noticing is that not all presses are registered and you are rationalizing it by assuming that you just missed the target. In reality, there is a problem with the home/back buttons that HTC needs to fix, soon.

I prefer to tap with my fingertip and this is rarely detected by the home/back buttons, which is SOOOO annoying. I'm debating trying to swap it out for a new one. From what I can tell the problem seems to affect EVRYONE, although many people might not notice or be annoyed by it. So the question is, is it truly a pure software fault, or is it a hardware fault that software (ie, an OTA) can mask or at least partially correct.
That's my preference as well - it has been an adjustment and one that I'm not terribly pleased with. I'm surprised the issue didn't show up in pre-release testing but I have to imagine it's something that software can fix with a remap of the area the system recognizes as buttons.

It's really not an issue with the "area", as I can touch the dead center of the home button and it still won't work. Seems to me that it is either not sensitive enough, or some other problem.
Regardless, word is that an OTA fixed this problem on the Taiwan HTC One 2 days ago, so now I guess we just need to complain loud enough that HTC/Sprint pump out the fix to us ASAP before we all return our phones.
Mines like this as well, you can hit the back button dead on and no response. Hopefully they issue a fix somewhat quickly.

Having this problem as well. My device was built April 9th 2013. I can sit there and tap on the home button for 30 seconds or more in every way possible and have no registration of the contact.
This might just be wishful thinking but for some reason clicking the app drawer icon seems to fix the issue right away making me think this is software.
Other than this the build quality and everything else seems perfect.

HTC needs to admit they have a problem here and advise us whether we should be returning these or waiting for an OTA patch which will be coming VERY soon.
I saw some people talking about this and didn't know what they were referring to.. I got my phone on launch day and have no issues with it, that looks super annoying

The note 3 has multiple microphones so it can cancel out back ground noise. It expects that your voice will be mainly be picked up by the lower microphone next to the USB port. If you sometimes block that microphone with something like your hand, you will mess up the noise canceling algorithms which could result in the echo. Try blocking and then unblocking that lower microphone with your hand and see if you can make the echo appear and then disappear for the caller. My guess is you will find the source of your echo.
Good luck.

And about a month ago I realized I kept holding my phone and my pinkie finger was over the mic..lol....But you are right about the mic and the back ground noise..I usually get the echo effect every now and then, mostly when I'm using WiFi...I'm wondering if it's in the phone "settings" disabling background noise will help solve this echo effect? .
What exactly do you think this option will do unchecked..in phone settings?

Have you had any weird sound from speakers on notifications?

Just wondering if any of you sometimes have had any weird sound as distorted / cracked or garbled when phone is ringing or in any notification sound?
Problems found by some users and me:
Crack, Garbled or distorted on notification or incoming calls (ringtone) even on some games.
Doesn't matter the volume level, it's not happening because it is at max level and came a distorted sound, that is not the problem.
It fixes the problem turning off and turning on the phone, so this problem comes intermittent and barely..
I'm pretty sure that could be an android os bug or sound driver bug but still I want to confirm with some of you.
We have 2 Nexus 6 at home, my wife and mine and both of us have experienced the same weird sound issue rarely times and not often, so I don't think that is a defective hardware but I am not sure.
1st Nexus 6 phone Lollipop 5.01 , Stock and rooted
2nd Nexus 6 phone Lollipop 5.01, Stock, Not rooted.
Please advise.

I don't know if I am experiencing similar problem is you but it is during my phone ringtone.
I have Dione as my ringtone. When somebody calls me, it sounds like my speaker would crackle/pop for a second and then the ringtone would start.
I have our as well. Especially when playing games like civilization.

I have not paid attention when my phone rings, but on notifications sometimes I get that horrible crack or distorted sound.

I don't think that is a bad hardware batch that we received, let's wait for more users to answer our concerns

Seems very weird to be hardware issue, I haven't experienced on calls, just from speakers on notification sounds and barely I have this issue, sometimes everything is fine, so I wouldn't assume its hardware.

I don't get convinced that is design issue the distortion sound problems come sometimes and very weird. If it was design issue we had the problem always.

Might help if you list @ what % volume you experience the audio issue. I have zero distortion on my speakers even at above 50%. Movies, notifications, phone calls all sound great on my end =].

At max. The problem is that distortion from notification sound it comes intermittent, it can happen once in a while, it is not always. That is on my end even on my wife phone it does the same. Isn't that weird?

I have noticed this also, it is like a crack just before the actual notification starts to play.
I used to get it all the time on the Twitter app when loading photos (load a photo, go back leave it say 10 secs and load the same photo), it annoyed me so much that I changed my twitter app to just get rid of it.
Obviously is software. Sometimes even it doesn't come out. For example the facebook pop sound when you refresh the news feed. Going to RMA the phone for other issues, I'll let you know if in my new one there is the same problem.
I am having similar problems. I get massive sound distortions all the time. When listening to music, watching videos and playing games. It sounds like a vinyl witch scratches and hurts my ears. I had created another thread but nobody seemed to have the same problem. Is anybody here witnessing something like that as well?
I was having the same problems (at least I don't notice it any more). What I did notice it seemed to always happen when you double clicked on your notification from the lock screen. It was really starting to bother me as I paid a fortune for this phone and it shouldn't have this. Anyway's, I think I found a fix as I don't seem to have the problem any more (it's been 3 to 4 days). I went into sounds and chose other sounds and disabled the screen locking sounds. It seemed to have work. I do have the touch sounds disabled to, but when I only had that on it still did the distorted sound. I'll re-enable it and see if I still get the distortion. I'll post later on.

Are you getting this through the speakers or through a headset. Mine is working great for music or video playback. I also don't blast it either, that could be it.
I'm getting that same issue. Even when I get a call it distorts and it only seems to do that when my ringer is on full blast... It sounded horrible.. It almost made me wanna switch back to my M8 GPE edition.

For me volume does not matter. Also, it is irrelevant if I use speakers or headphones. Same thing happens.
