I was wondering what was new myself. This gave me a general idea so I figured I would share here. Sorry if a repost
Did I hear something about camera focus?
yeah, do ya think he could talk a little faster, duh??
Former debater, so this sounded like normal conversation to me. One of the funny places idiosyncrasies can help.
Damn though do I like the look of those quick toggles. There's basically nothing else I want more in 4.2.2 (well, besides the wonderful Dashclock widget, that is). Power Toggles is nice and I remember scoffing when Google's toggles first came out, but there's something about them that really caught my interest and held it.

I think for me, it was the contact card.
I actually find his pace completely normal for a general overview. If it was any slower, it would be boring. NTM his pronunciation is much better than mine .
He dedicated all of 2 seconds or so to the camera tweaks (not including file storage etc). I really want to know what HTC has done to fix the problems this camera has focusing to infinity.

Hiya!
One night i was playing too much on my phone, and it caused me to have a dream about it. In that dream I had a great lock screen, which actually came from the "smart life" video. It should be on your phone as well, but if not, I post a youtube link here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaSRP4jGvVo
Check the video at 0:40....
Does anybody gets what I mean?
I'd be happy to see this as a lock screen, and let's say the lock screen background would be different. Or blurred a bit.
Unfortunately I'm not a dev, but I'd really give money for this one!!
Who else likes the idea and would pay for it? It might motivate some devs
Definately doable but I don't see it happening as a developer would probably have to model and animate the effect in 3D which is a lot of work. There might be some similar open source graphical design that may be ported, I don't know.
But a very cool idea, though.
Yes, I was thinking about this as well, but there must be a template somewhere! If not, than get a camera, do it in real life, record it, and do the math on the pc. Not sure how it works, just trying to find a solution.
Please somebody!!!! We are waiting for it!
You all may want to take a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrdrBefMAEc
A physics cloth-based interface for Meego! Obviously not as productive as regular 2D interfaces, but looks like a fun interface.
Wow, not bad at all! Wish we could see something like that on our SGS!

You can stop doing that as well as waiting for this to happen. This would require massive amounts of programming as well as implementing of entirely new api, etc.
Not gonna happen in next few years.

Sad to hear this mate... The lock mechanism is already out, the only problem would be with the curtain itself. Well, let's leave it open for a week or so, don't let be forgiven so early!
Google dropped the ball on this one. First, no gps button. Second, the buttons that do exist only take you to a menu (ie, the wifi menu) from where you can actually turn things on or off. Also, apparently no ability to customize whats in the quick settings.
With all the great implementations of quick settings available in both custom roms and widgets, google had a lot of great ideas from which it could have modeled its own quick settings, but somehow it managed to put out this worthless piece of garbage. I think most people will have to keep using widgetsoid or notification toggle and google's quick setting will almost never be used. What a disgrace.

The kind of people who want to badly customize it, is also the kind of people who do not need settings to do it.
I'm fine with it, if anything it'll probably only take the CM team a few minutes to change the functionality of it.

I agree. If anything, it gives a new platform/base for CM or other developers to build upon and a pretty spiffy one at that. I think it's a great first release for a feature. Just because you can see the future of it in current roms or inherently tell where it's going doesn't mean it shouldn't be a welcomed improvement. Could they have made it better? Of course, but that's not a reason to overreact and call it a "disgrace".
Yeah, I don't know what they're thinking. The buttons should obviously be toggles for quickly turning things on and off, not shortcuts to various settings menus. That's what the regular settings button in the notification shade is for. I was really excited when I first heard about this feature, since I expected Google to do the logical thing and put a bunch of useful toggles in there, but what they've ended up doing seems pretty pointless to me.

A great first release? I think it's a horrid first release. It takes as many clicks to turn wifi on or off in this implementation as it does under the current ics or jelly bean 4.1 without the so-called quick settings. Moreover, this is hardly a new feature. It has been around in roms and widgets literally for years. People want one-touch access to the most commonly used settings, and this so-called quick settings fails to provide that. And who the heck made the decision not to put gps in there?
Even as a first release, Google should have surveyed what is currently out there and tried to make its implementation at least as useful. I think it utterly failed. If you don't, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Thank you... I am not sure how anyone could disagree. Yeah, the two fingers to swipe down is cool, and maybe people think it looks nifty, but functionality is nearly nonexistent. And isn't functionality what android users demand first and foremost? If I want a beautiful but useless user interface, I'll look to apple.

Do like me, ignore them and hope CM will keep what they are doing best...
I liked the idea of swiping twice to bring a second notification shade down. But yeah, them just linking to settings pages sucks a little. The ideal setting is to tap to toggle or hold to dive in and change settings in detail.
Ever since I found about about most settings just directing you to the appropriate settings menu, I was also disappointed.
The only proper toggle I think there is brightness, it brings up a little popup in the middle of the screen with a slider.
google's probably going to update it soon
Keep your opinions in here
Google ******* fails again...
Thanks

I love how HTC used to get so much **** for having a laggy UI with Sense. I was one of those who kind of hated on Sense and really dissed it. Now I have noticed TouchWiz has become the Sense of old. Bulky, laggy, and way too big for its own good. Kind of funny how the two companies have done a reversal. I used to purchase Samsung devices just to avoid the lag of Sense and other UIs. Every video review I have watched, the reviewer has complained of lag on the S4. For once I will actually stay with an HTC device until my next contract renewal. I feel it was done right. One thing that isnt fair though is that nobody seems to be giving Samsung the hard time HTC got about their overbloated UI overlay. What gives?
Oh, and the classic "The reviewer or people posting negative reviews and comments about the GS4 are paid by HTC" wtf, really? If someone doesnt like Samsung products they are assumed to be crazy and must be getting "paid off" to post negative comments? That's really unfair and childish of them to say. Anyone else noticing unfair biases?

I noticed that as well. Sense 5 is smooth, man. I haven't had any lag, outside of me messing with governors and such, and I've read several reviews that say Touchwiz is kindof laggy. People aren't going to give Sammy any **** though because they are the top dog. While I'm glad they are android (for now) they are in the position that Apple was not long ago...nothing they can do is wrong even if it is. It's a little annoying
I actually really like sense 5

My phone is bone stock, and will more than likely stay that way.
the only thing that seems odd to me in Sense 5 has been the lock screen..It kind of looks like its not meant for the current state it is in..It looks like it's set up and preparing for Android 4.2.1-2..Looks like they are preparing for lock screen widgets and I cant wait!

Not necessarily. Sense 5 has started becoming a little more transparent, and show's a lot of stock Android in it. I'm happy with it.

Well of course there will be some testing. I'll have to flash a few ROMs to see what each offers. I wouldn't mind checking out Paranoid Android on here. :good:
agreed, the only thing i want in sense is quick toggles! i used them all the time on my GS2. Luckily the mod is already out for this. That and the MMS compression fix. Other than that its pretty impressive out of the box.
But yea when will we start seeing AOSP stuff? I know the phone is only out for a wk or two but I'm looking forward to seeing the development section start to fill up.

I believe there are people working behind the scenes on some AOSP stuff. One problem would be the new SoC Snapdragon 600. I don't think there is a reference device running android on this platform yet.
I'm really diggin sense 5 in general. Blinkfeed is awesome.. I always had a currents widget on my furthest left screen anyways.
One thing I dislike. Is that the app drawer still scrolls gingerbread style. I'd like it to be paginated.
And as for quick toggles like i've seen in a few posts. We don't want quick toggles! we just want the 4.2 update. Then it should be pull down on left 3/4 for notifications. Or the right 1/4 for the toggles that are just built into android now. The quick toggles of the past are pretty ugly in comparison.

I guess by paginated you mean horizontal scroll instead of vertical. I too find this odd as Sense 4.0, 4.1, and 4+ all had horizontal app drawers.
I also like this, but what I have done is make folders and put the apps in there so I only have one page.

Used to have it in Sense before it was even an Android thing. Best part of my EVO 3D.
This is the first phone I can say I may not even want to put an AOSP rom on.

The folders in the app drawer has been something I really like that I wouldn't have thought I would. Now I am down to 3 homepages instead of 5 or 7. Would be nice if they could hold more apps per folder but it still makes my app drawer so nicely organized.

Hi all,
So this is probably the ultimate noob question, but a new icon has shown up in my notification bar with 4.3. I have no idea what it is doing there, other than taking up space. I've attached a picture in the hopes that someone can ID it. It's the squarish thing between the GPS and sound profile icons near the left.
Thanks!
Nfc.
Awesome, thanks. Sorry for the stupid question! Mods, feel free to delete this.
I think its funny....they add this icon to make people aware of NFC....my wife and I already disabled it so that we don't see that ugly thing.

Do you find it difficult to use NFC wth this phone? The EvoLTE was much easier i guess it's the internals and stuff
Hah, I just did the same. Takes up precious space up there. I guess I'll turn it on if I ever need to use it.
Oh man, they added the NFC icon? I loved the fact that I didn't remember it was on. Now I'm getting that ugly icon and a reminder that my battery could be 1% better... Thanks a bunch HTC...

Hello,
Some (most?) of us dislike the new layout of the quick settings, just thought I'd share a tip I discovered by accident.
If you place your thumb on the LEFT of the bar and hold it for 1 second, the bar will appear for a bit. drag it down and you'll get your notifications. if you do the same on the RIGHT you'll get quick settings. it's a great way to avoid an extra keypress or using two fingers to swipe down (who thought that would be a good idea?!)

It always takes people time to get used to change, but if we didn't have it we would still be playing snake on a nokia 7730
