Stuck on rooting

I was following this guide:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.p...eam_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod#Rooting_the_phone
Everything worked out okay until I got to the section about rooting. Because I live in Hawaii, I have no 3G network and must sign in to my Google account through WiFi. That's when I got linked to this guide:
http://modmygphone.com/forums/showpost.php?p=51891&postcount=12|
...and everything went downwards from there. I could not understand what this guide was talking about. There were downloads sending me to links. There were links sending me to downloads. I wound up visiting dozens of external links and downloading dozens of .zip files with no clue whatsoever as to where to put them. I still have no idea what this guid is talking about.
Can anybody help me get past the Google sign in screen so I can continue with the CyanogenMod guide?
You don't need 3G to sign in, Edge or even GPRS is just fine. Do you really need to activate by Wi-Fi?
Did you set-up ADB? This is crucial, you 100% need it.
The guide you linked to is one the most comprehensive that've seen up-to date. To use that guide, you do NOT need to download anything, everything is done by typing in few commands on your phone and then on your computer.
To me, it sounds like you have problems setting up your ADB and there are good guides for that as well, even the one in the linked thread is pretty good.
Basically, to set up your ADB you need to
Download ADB first.
Install Drivers
Point your computer to ADB (Path variable)
Connect your phone and hack away.
Follow only one guide.. do not wander off and download all kinds of zip files.
I think I got to that step somewhere in that second guide I linked to. I clicked on "Windows USB driver" assuming it was just one file, but instead it sent me to this page:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html
I decided to read that page and download the SDK file here:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
I think this is exactly where I left off because this was where I started getting confused. I did not know how to install the program or where to install it in (Windows 7 64-bit). I'm also having a hard time getting my computer to recognize my SD card/phone (it charges, but it won't recognize it as an external drive anymore).

Problems rooting please help

This is becoming the hardest way to root apparently -_-
I`m trying to get z4root on to my Galaxy S Captivate from Rogers (SGH-I896) running 2.2
I`ve downloaded the apk file and placed it on my desktop, when trying to copy the file to my phone I get this error message.
(I tried to post a picture here but apparently I need to post 8 times?*fail)
It says an unexpected error is preventing the operation.
Error 0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect.
clicking try again just prompts the message again.
Phone is connected in USB mass storage mode.
USB debugging is on.
It appears the app is no longer available in the market so is this the only way to get it on my phone?
I've literally tried downloading the apk 5 different times from different places and they all give the same message when I try to copy, also tried copying the file pretty much everywhere possible on the phone. any help would be greatly appreciated.
1. make sure you turn on the debugging mode;
2. connect your phone using usb cable;
3. i used one click root to root the captivate, search that one in the forums;
4. follow the instruction of that root app;

[Q] Problems with ADB / Drivers after froyo internal installation

Ok. I got my nc rooted, and used ROM Manager to install NF internally. Now I want to put gApps on it. So far everything is working wonderfully.
I download the Easy Driver Pack (http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-910008.html) and follow the instructions. My NC isnt recognized. I went through all the troubleshooting tips there that I could find and my NC still isnt recognized.
Next I download http://legacyschool.us.to/nookdev/nook-usb-installer.rar and follow those instructions thinking that I might be able to fix said problem above. Still a failure. Now I've reached the point that I'm becoming slightly frustrated. Before I rooted my NC was recognized. Before I used ROM Manager to install NF my NC was recognized, and now I cant figure out wtf I'm doing wrong. Can someone help me out please?
UPDATE:
I got ADB to recognize my nook and it says that it's one of the adb devices plugged into my computer. When I go to enter the command prompts to install google apps, the cmd window freezes up after I input the first line (and I'm hoping I read the directions correctly and have my cmd window pointed in the right direction, at the sdk tools folder with the correct google application system file inside it)
So I'm not sure where to go after this because I'm not seeing anywhere that I could go back and fix an error. Maybe someone else will.

[Q] Can'T connect HTC Vogue to my PC

I try to connect my HTC Touch with my PC; windows 7 x64 but nothing happen
computer doesn't see the phone. Tried in recovery mode but doesn't connect. always loop with something like:
"usb: set adresse 2"
"android_usb gadget: full speed config #1: android"
etc
any help would be appreciate.
Since I do not have phone plan and want to use it as a personal agenda I really need to be able to sync it with my pc
thanks alot
Did you flash this phone to a newer kernel? If I recall, the .32 version kernels do not allow USB connectivity as of yet. You'd have to go back to a .25 kernel (and update the modules after flashing) in order to get USB working again.
Good luck!
hmmm sorry i'm a noob but...
do you mean the "windows kernel" or linux one? (android)
I use the step by step guide to install android (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636024)
I made this update too: http://www.htc.com/ca/support/touch-telus/downloads/
thanks for your help
Android.
Your .32 kernel will allow you to connect to a Linux PC, though, I connect mine to a 64-bit Ubuntu machine regularly to add music files.
Ok it work now with another NBH file...
ok, it work only in Recovery Mode
and since I wanna sync my outlook with Jorte I need to get USB in Android
BTW My astro doesn't work? Like if it was a demo.

[Q] Having trouble routing. Help appreciated!

Ok, I have a N7000 with stock gb and KK2 kernel and I want to load the Paranoid Android ICS rom. First I see that I must route my phone, so I tried following the instructions at:
http://www.android.gs/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-note-n7000/
These instructions make it sound darn simple, but perhaps I am really dumb? Ok, so first I downloaded the latest kies as well as "CF-Root-SGN_ZS_MUL_KK1-v5.0-CWM5.rar"
After installing kies, I got it to connect to my note although not without heart ache. Eventually I found that it would only work if I first disabled USB debugging. But that wasn't enough. Then I had to reboot the phone. (Without that step it wouldn't work). It wasn't clear to me if I even needed to make it connect to kies. The instructions didn't say I needed to. Ok, so then I start "not-rooted-yet.bat" which displays this:
(1) make sure u have installed adb drivers for ur device
(2) enable "USB DEBUGGING"
(3) enable "UNKNOWN SOURCES"
(4) [OPTIONAL] increase screen timeout to 10 minutes
(5) connect USB cable to PHONE and then connect to PC
(6) skip "PC Companion Software" prompt on device
(7) !!! PUT A CF-ROOT zImage FILE IN THE zImage FOLDER !!!
I can only easily do items 2-5. It's hard for me to imagine that I should just ignore the other 3 items.
Instruction #1 confused me. How do I accomplish that? It seems that the adb drivers come with the android sdk but the instructions don't say anything about installing that. That seems like a big deal and if it was required it seems that it would surely be mentioned?
Plus I found this post which also indicates that the sdk is not required.
> victorlht88:
> no u don't need the android sdk to root.

However those instructions seem about as clear as mud, since if I plug in my phone with usb debugging enabled, kies just hung forever saying "connecting".
Do the adb drivers get installed just by installing kies or do you somehow have to coerce kies to do this?
And then there is step 6. But I don't get any prompt of any kind when I plug in the phone to the pc.
And then there is step 7. I don't know what this means, but my guess is that I have to copy the zimage\zimage file to somewhere on the phone. However where exactly? There is no zImage folder on my phone! Plus even if there was, I couldn't copy anything to it after checking "USB debugging" (mass storage mode) I can no longer see my phone in explorer. What happens when I plug the phone in is that the phone says "USB connected" and then two new drives appear on my PC. However if I try to click on either of those I see "No disk drive. Insert a disk and try again". I even tried rebooting my pc, but then I get even more than two new drives showing up briefly, but they always give the same error message as before.
... yet I know that thousands of people have routed their phones ... so I am left pretty mystified. If anyone can clarify these instructions it would help me greatly, and maybe others as well.
Thanks
~Paul
Follow dr. Ketans thread in the development section.
And once on download mode with usb connected, CLOSE KIES. Otherwise odin will not work.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Hi, your guide is taken from here. I think there is a missing step, which is to download the InitialCFRootFlasher.zip from the end of post #2, and you need to follow the instruction step "1.2. If you are not rooted yet: Using the zergRush exploit".
Btw, adb drivers are included when you install Kies in your PC. Once Kies is installed, you have to close it. Make sure your phone is in USB debugging mode before starting the procedure.

Ok, those instructions seemed more clear. Different script as well although perhaps not significantly so? In any case it worked. I'm not rooted! Thanks all
~Paul
you said your kernel is kk2, then why did you use CF Root KK1?
Cf root kernel for KK1 and KK2 is same.
