This app works great switching for switching to Lte only. It is not my work and I'm just sharing for anyone who is interested. It works when your in an area with spotty 4g coverage. The only downfall is no calls in Lte only but all switching to 3g in the middle of doing something is behind me.
That looks very similar to this:

The screenshots are outdated, but the engineering screen it brings you to is the same. It's basically a shortcut to the *#*#4636#*#* menu.

For those coming from the LTE you know of which I speak.
How is the LTE/3G hand off?
Shifted from the bottom of the rabbit hole
Its been good for me, but I never had any problems with my lte either.

It's been very smooth for me unlike my wife's SGS3 which has a long pause while switching from one to the other.
It works a lot better than the HTC EVO 4G LTE, had both side by side in the same area. Doesn't take long to switch to 4G, the LTEvo however wouldn't connect without toggling airplane mode.
Much improved over the lte.

It hands off fine in really good signal areas, much better than the Evo LTE..But my Galaxy Note II picks up 4G almost any where there's 4G. Where as the One does not..
But from what i've noticed this may actually be better because in a lot of these areas with my Note II it would say 4G but when running a benchmark it would be just as bad as 3G and sometimes not transmit data at all even with the 4G icon..
But all day yesterday anytime my One said 4G i had actual 4G(>6MB/down).
Keeps changing back in forth
With my One at the house it keeps changing back and forth from LTE to 3g when i had my SG3 it constantly stayed on LTE
Agree. Approved greatly. On the LTE I would switch on/off the airplane mode to get my 4g back going

So I'm in LA inside where I'm at i get three bars of LTE and full bars of 3G since the 3G is stronger it keeps me in 3G for the most part unless i do a profile update then it puts me at 4G for 5 minutes before kicking me back down. So the question is, is there a way to force LTE?

The bars do not represent EVDO (3G) or LTE (4G), they represent 1X Voice on the HTC One. If you want to know the actual signal strength of your 3G and 4G go to settings/About Phone/Network.
My guess is that the LTE is borderline in the building and therefore it goes back and forth. Where I work I have strong LTE and EVDO but when I'm in the building it will switch to 3G once I start using data like Youtube or something. Once I stop and set the phone down it will reconnect to LTE. If I go towards the outer part of the building I will get a better LTE connection, or if I go outside it is really good. This is due to the poor penetration of the 1900mhz LTE.
The phone will connect to the higher priority signal, first 4G and then 3G.
As said above, it seems like your LTE connection is very weak, or else the phone would stick to that.
Ok so i did *#*#4636#*#* and changed it from CDMA + LTE to LTE, CDMA and it hasn't dropped from 4G

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that disable your ability to receive phone calls/texts?

If you set it to "LTE only" then yes but if you set it to "LTE,CDMA" it will only connect to LTE and 1XRTT and bypasses EVDO. So you phone should stay on 4G a lot more since EVDO is disabled but if LTE drops you will drop to 1X

Do I still get 3G if I do (did) this?
Assuming no.

Correct. Hence CDMA/LTE vs CDMA/EvDO/LTE. You can also do LTE only if you're feeling bold.
I updated to 4.3 just now and my lte signal dropped to 1 to 2 bars, from a constant full bars. I noticed the performance is equal, meaning it may be just a difference in the sensitivity of the antenna's display of good signal however, it drops from lte a lot and stays in 3g. Has anyone verified the changes in the new modem? Any other bugs I should be aware on the 4.3 update? Also, Dashclock widget doesn't work on htc's widget lock screen.
Looks like before the bars were for voice and now they represent data. That's the way it is in AOSP.

I imagined since there were no changes in performance per se. I just wish I could restrict my one to lte only. Either 4g or no data.

I work relatively close to a 4G LTE tower before updated it showed full 4G with fast speeds, now it shows little to no 4G and would switch to 3G. I tried to Factory Data Reset with PRL and Profile Update and still shows the same, and I'm running all stock no root, and I'm pretty sure it's not the tower.

This is correct. You can verify this by connecting to wifi and then disabling mobile data. Your bars will instantly change.
I like this change. Now I can see that it is not possible to have more than 1 bar of 4G pretty much anywhere in my area. No wonder the speeds are so average and I almost never get 4G, the Sprint towers are all so far off the main roads that by the time the signal gets there it's weak. You can get full bars... if you drive up to the Sprint call center in Bristol, TN.
Before this change it was a lot harder to tell whether you were getting good 4G or 3G reception.
Edit: I just want to say that the reception itself is largely unchanged. When the phone goes from 4G to 3G, nothing will make it go back to 4G except toggling the data off and on.
Just to throw this in the mix. I live in an area that never had 4g but after this update I have it now. My signal strength also shows the one bar but coming from 3g only my connection now is 4g and has increased significantly. Maybe this new radio has a factor that extends the overall 4g coverage? I guess it could be just timing and 4g was opened up in my area but like I said I now have it after this update.
So I picked up an unlocked XT1053 GSM developer edition a month or so ago. I got on Net10 and everything seems fine except for one issue.
When I am in an HSPA+ area and come into a known LTE area the phone doesn't seem to switch to LTE right away. If I toggle airplane mode on and off I get full LTE with good signal and it holds strong until I'm back in a weak area. If I am in an LTE area for a while after about 30 min or so it will finally switch on it's own, but I would think it should be much faster without using airplane mode. Anyone have any ideas?
Call your service provider and provide them your IMEI so they can provision your device.

LTE works on my phone though, it just doesn't switch right away. It seems like if HSPA+ is even one dB better then it stays on it. If I toggle airplane mode I get strong LTE. Is that a provisioning issue?
Is there a way with APNs or anything to make LTE take priority if it's present?
It could be the provisioning. You sim may not be fully provisioned. If that doesn't fix it.
You can change it to lte only.
Install a app called any cut. Create a short cut for testing. Select the first option and at the bottom change it lte only. See if it works. If not then the network isn't allowing iy

Well I ordered an actual nano Sim from net10 since they just got them. It will be here tomorrow so I'm sure that when I transfer my service to it my account will get provisioned. If I still have problems I'll try what you mentioned.

Okay so I've seen this same possible problem with pretty much every 4g lte phone I've had to date now I'm sure it's more a less made this way but my question is when someone uses there cell data alot (I have the true unlimited data) on 4g lte let's say while watching YouTube videos have you ever had it switch to 4G after using it for a bit? This happens on all 4g lte phones I've had I'll be watching YouTube with 4g lte then after using data for awhile it switches to 4G here's where my question comes in, is there a way to force the phone to stick with Only 4g lte? Possible temporarily turn off the 4G an force my note 4 to only use its 4g lte connection? If you need more detail feel free to ask

There's an xposed module for the s5 I think it's lte mode only I was using it on the note4 recently and it works. Unfortunately I don't use xposed anymore so I can't recall exactly what it's called

I was actually messing around with the service menus and came across a service menu that aloud me to force a specific data band so I got it to force 4g Lte even if it has 1 bar cause that's when it goes down to 4g but now it stays and another thing I should note is at My gfs house I usually get 2 bars on lte but after doing this it's been a solid 4 for some reason haha either way it's working that's all that matters

One thing I must note is that you should make sure to have Volte enabled or you may have trouble getting calls through.
