[REQ] Sense Car App - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So coming from strictly Nexus phones for the last few years, it was nice to see that HTC Sense included an easy-of-use car app that launches when Car Mode is tripped, similar to what was on the Nexus One. And it's probably the thing I miss the most since switching to the Google Play Edition ROMs. The Vanilla Android Car Mode basically allows your homescreen to go landscape and prevents the screen from timing out; pretty lame.
So my question is has anyone been able to successfully extract the Car app from the Sense ROM into an .apk as was done with the camera? I know there's Car Home Ultra and the like, but I kinda of like the simplicity of the Sense one. Thoughts?
---EDIT---
Forgot to say that I have tried the odexed and deodexed versions of the Automotive APK and they wouldn't install. So any thoughts on what would work?

I echo this and would love to see the Car apk.
Anyone?

Car Panel (navipanel) from Froyo 2.2 on 2.1 Slide

I have a STOCK MT3G Slide NOT rooted.
How can I get the Navipanel or Car Panel / dock that we see on later builds of android, is there a way someone can extract the APK or how can I get it installed onto my phone.....I figured I would let the pro's answer this one!

Car dock is included in the android sdk, however you can extract a working one for your slide from cr's addon pack for ota ver.blah blah, anyway goto this link he posted:http://www.4shared.com/file/F92A1Dcy/_2__MTM_Stock_Addon_191_LWP.html
Extract the zip and goto data/app in the folder, youll find the car dock and 2 other apps too..Navipanel is only featured on the eris(corr if wrong), you'll can probably google navipanel.apk or check the eris section.
or you could just get it from here

Yeah i was thinking that cause i thought the hd2 only had a froyo port not 2.1/1.6 . Give me a min to search my comp for it, no guarantees that it works on stock. Try the 3 attached files of my post.
I downloaded the files but I cannot instal them. I get a "Parse Error".....for all 3....any other ideas??

No idea, they all worked for me. I think that the car home and car home launcher is the set that I was looking for, thanks for that. the HTC included something called footprints - I have no idea what that is....
I emailed to myself and used gmail to install; how strange, I've not done that before. Astro is installed though, and of course install from untrusted is set. I'm running Eugene's last froyo w/o the OC'ed kernel.

[Q]Nexus Desktop Dock on NXSense 1.26?

Hey all,
First off, I'd like to say i posted this question on evil's NXsense rom thread already, but that thread is pretty dead. I was just wondering if it was possible to regain the nexus one desktop dock bluetooth audio capabilities again.
the only thing i found after searching was this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5721627
can anyone confirm this working?

Try it for yourself... just download a Froyo ROM and pull the apk out of it, then install it on your phone with Sense and see if it works.
just tried, i pulled the clock.apk from TheOfficialNexus1 rom, and installed it. so now i have the stock nexus one clock app, but it doesn't trigger the dock to pair with the phone. any ideas as to which apk(s) it would be? i'm determined to figure this out. any ideas as to how to find out? im currently flashing TheOfficialNexus1 rom on my phone and using a task manager to see what new task pops up when i dock my phone.

I have no clue, but thanks for checking. I'd bet that it's a framework issue. I'm not a coder, but it would be cool if someone made an app that triggered the HTC Desk Clock on docking... it's much nicer than the stock one.

Found this on the net long while. Can't rmb where, and I didn't make it. But it works!
but i was playing around a bit with the framework and I managed to achieve the same result without the apk (result as in the deskclock coming up when charging), but still no audio.
so... after a couple days of cooking and testing, i still haven't managed to get the dock working on the nxsense v1.26. however i did find some info like http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=ke...334736426c8b33;hb=android-msm-2.6.29-nexusone
Maybe it's in the kernel + all the files listed at the beginning of the code? if there are any chefs willing to help teach me a few things, i'd like to start cooking for the nexus one. just need a helping hand to get started. i've had past cooking experience with winmo for the kaiser, but thats about it.

HTC Velocity - SU broken *FIXED*

I've unlocked, installed CWM, rooted it, installed busybox via the busybox installer from the market (which requires root), however titanium tells me that the SU command fails and I should attempt to re-root my device
Where should I go from here before I break something?
Thanks
UPDATE:
Never mind, booted into recovery, reinstalled VIVID_CWM_ROOT_VER2.zip all is good
had the same drama at first nice fix how are you finding the phone???
So fair I am impressed with the speed, I have not used 4G yet, its not available in my area yes, but its light years ahead of all the other handsets here even on 3G.
Physically I was expecting it to be heavier, and coming from a HTC HD2, the lock and volume buttons are perfectly positioned so that I accidentally press them all the time as they are in opposite of what I am used to and its the same width but 1 cm taller, which means I can no longer use my leather belt pouch I miss having a physical hangup and separate physical answer key which through the circumstances of its birth (WinMo 6.5) the HD2 was blessed with. Build quality on the MicroSD card slot is lacking, it could have been made better. I also miss being able to hot-swap the microsd card as I could in the HD2, instead I have to pull the battery which is annoying.
Software wise, I gotta say that I am REALLY missing MIUI, Sense is very pretty but I find it is not really what I am looking for and its quite clunky in comparison to MIUI... and I hate how it squashes down widgets for no reason at all. I will probably play around with AWD or LauncherPro in the meantime, I'm also not really a fan of the ringpull unlock screen but I'm sure I will get used to it in time. I noticed that the VIVID and RAIDER have sense 3.0, where as the Velocity has Sense 3.5... maybe ROM people can yank a clean build from the Telstra build along with teeter
BlueTooth - Works Great, Syncs INSTANTLY with my car, never skips on A2DP, works great.
Wifi - Works fantastically
Games work great on it, I'm cranking away with my PSX emulator (FPSE) and GTA III runs good, I was originally disappointed it didn't run better but after I reduced the draw distance in the game settings it was good, I think I had too many apps running as well. I installed ATK to take care of that and the phone is much better after I have ATK autorun every hour and clean up background apps.
Battery life I can't tell because I have been using it almost the entire time and it melts through it pretty fast, I'd give it a week of normal day to day use before I really give a verdict on it, I do have the screen at 100% brightness all the time which doesn't help, and I already have an extended battery in the mail. I sync 2 gmail accounts and an exchange account, all in push, and I just leave BT and WIFI on all the time as I like just jumping in the car and it works, or getting home and already being on the wifi.
Overall I give it a 6 out of 10 so far, with CM7 or CM9 and MIUI that would quickly elevate to an 8 out of 10, with all the space inside the phone, the size of the standard battery is disappointing, they could have put one almost twice the size in there if they arranged the sim and microsd slots better.
The biggest problem is that I was really spoiled with the HTC HD2, I'd say 90% of my gripes with the phone are with sense, I find it ugly and clunky and I wish HTC had just left android alone... I don't have an issue with gingerbread, I haven't used ICS yet and I'm in no busting rush. As soon as the ROM community grows up for this phone it will be amazing, until then its kinda meh.

Sorry if I offended, I meant no disrespect, any thread in the dev forum with the word sense in the title (ie most of them)... I have not bothered with, when some sense free roms show up, then I will be excited

I went to town on launchers and things today and significantly improved the base system.... ADW Launcher, screen density of 200 and widget locker have made this a much nicer playground
still, widget locker isn't perfect, every now and then I see the standard lockscreen for a few seconds, so its like the sense lockscreen is still activating in the background

My phone is in another room, but I think in the Advanced settings somewhere there's an option to disable the stock lockscreen.

if rooted, you can also go into /system/app/ and rename HTCLockscreen.apk to HTCLockscreen.bak and it will remove the ring lockscreen, and put it back on the old sliding tab lockscreen (froyo/gingerbread stock/aosp lockscreen)

Cool trick. It doesn't break anything? I remember doing something similar on my Desire and I couldn't dismiss alarms (ugh) or answer calls, I'd have to do a battery pull.
(also, I think you need to be rooted to disable the stock lockscreen in WidgetLocker, so maybe it's essentially doing the same thing; alarms/calls work fine on my Vivid with it disabled, so maybe I'm answering my own question)

i did it on my mytouch4g and had problems dismissing alarms, but i got gentle alarm, so i didnt worry about it any more, lol
havent done it on this phone yet
i take that back, i did it, but i didnt run any alarms or test any calls, so i dont know if that is broken or not
Ah yes found it, settings > advanced > disable stock lock.
it warns that this will make any of the physical keys wake the device, I'm cool with that
Yeah, I actually like waking my phone with the volume buttons sometimes, depending on how I end up grabbing it in my jacket pocket. And it's not like they unlock the phone; I have WidgetLocker set to only have a 15-second timeout, overriding the normal display timeout, so I'm not too worried about accidental battery drain.

[Q] Camera so blurry and put cardock off.

Hi,
Well we all know that the D3 doesn't have an amazing camera but it's really bad IMO????
Is there a fix ?? Is it software related??? I went to a custom rom but the camera remained the same.
One last question. I don't want the cardock software to start when I push it in. Any way to disable the carhome software or so???
Thanks in advance.
Mavrom is the best rom for camera. It critically improves the camera.
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA
Picture example?
Yes indoor pictures can be bad as most cellphone cameras struggle with low-light due to small sensors. Outdoor should be good enough though
It's rooted. I will go and make some example photo's and show you.
Mavrom will work on XT860??
Maybe you didn't get all of the same updates we did in the US, because this camera is fine now ever since we were updated to 5.6.890. As for the car dock, if you keep the Blur dock, you can press the back arrow to leave the dock, but hitting home at any time takes you back into it.
If you want to do a bit more, you can remove SmartCarDock or something like that from /system/app and drop in a version of Google car dock which engages immediately, but can be deactivated from the status bar and will remain inactive until selected again regardless of whether or not you hit the home key.
I'm on Liberty ROM. Guess it has the same updates as you guys have???
I also own a SGS2 and that one makes amazing pictures. So yeah it's a little sad.
For the cardock. You say I could disable the cardock completely by removing it from the /system/app . Cause Liberty let's you choose which one you want to use the stock or AOSP . I don't want any really
I will check out the status bar thing. That would be awesome.

I believe it's Liberty that turned me onto Google Car Dock, so just try that one from the Liberty menus. When you disable it while docked, there is a persistent notification that says it's docked but disabled, but tapping this re-enabled car dock and it disappears once undocked.
I am considering to disable to cardock thing
If you are rooted, I believe that you can go /system/app and change the extension on SmartCarDock.apk to .bak and this should break the .apk without risking losing it in case something else is reliant upon it. If something else breaks as a consequence, you can change .bak back to .apk and we can try something else to disable it.
Ok very awesome. Gonna try it and get back to you.

[Q] How to enable notifications on lock screen

Hi guys,
How do I enable lockscreen notifications on my HTC One? I just moved from the iOS ecosystem where each Facebook/Whatsapp/Skype message that comes through gets placed on the lockscreen for the convenience.
I've been searching for it on Google and nothing is working for me. I want it to be ON the lock screen page, I don't want to slide over to the next page just to view it (by the way the sliding feature sucks like hell, its not very responsive).
PS. I'm currently using NiLs but it's not doing what I want it to do specifically. I have to slide over to another page, which is a terrible way to view the notifications.
Thanks!
I'm not sure how it works on stock android, but afaik, on stock KK sense 5.5 you can only view missed calls, sms, calender etc.
Theres no native support for WhatsApp, Skype, Hangouts etc on lockscreen which sucks. I wish Google would integrate this or work with them to integrate this. I think you can do it using DashClock widgets or something.
I have considered getting the next iPhone partly because of this feature.

I am sure you'll get used to it. Out of my group of friends and people I know, majority of them are moving from iOS to Android.
To be honest I am the only one who's tempted to move to iPhone. The things I love about the iPhone are - mechanical switch on side for toggles (auto rotate or vibrate mode), nice small size (fits in hand nicely), notifications on lockscreen, apple care, iCloud, iMessages. One thing is also the way that Apple pushes updates to its phones, in one go.

I tried using DashClock but it still doesn't seem to replace the lock screen. I'd like it gone if possible, or if I could replace it...
Mate, try the ViperOne rom.
It have a tweaks for use the first widget page as default in lockscreen, in fact i'm using it with nils and now i'm trying dashclock
Now i have the notifications like the iPhone
