Ok... to make it short, modemfs is a folder that is very important for a smartphone. It contains files that make the phone recognise your sim card and to identify your network carrier. I may be wrong concerning its defn... ><
I guess that u know how to root ur phone!! It is found in the system folder of ur phone... u can try accessing it with root explorer.
Odin... try to flash the firmware again with repartition checked...
Dnt forget I'm not held responsible if u brick ur phone!

Try to downgrade to Gingerbread OS (GB) first, see if it still happens. Use Odin to do it. Follow the guide here. And.. I recommend using the firmware (GB OS ) specific to your country.
I was lucky
Thanks for your post it was really helpfull.
I was lucky because i have two rooted i9070.
First I deleted what was in, "broken" i9070, folder modemfs and copied content from healthy one.
If someone need content of my modemfs folder just let me know.

Downanimation is for when you power off the phone. You can leave that alone.
Yes if you do not rename the old bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zipold it will over write the old file.

You can push it through ADB if you have it installed but I don't want to confuse you.
1. Plug your phone into the computer. Mount disk drive. ( depending what rom you have you might have to put it in internet pass through mode then usb disk drive)
2. Drag the file onto the sd card. Unmount phone.
3. Using your favorite file manager( RECOMEND ROOT EXPLORER!!) move the bootanimation.zip from the sd card into the correct file folder.
4. With root explorer the correct file system should /system/media folder
inside the media file folder will be the old bootanimation.( rename it to bootanimation.zipold
5. paste new bootanimation.zip reboot and enjoy

ROM manager doesn't give an option for my phone for CWM and you can't back up your ROM without it.
Sorry but not risking bricking this thing if I make the wrong choice.

+1.and you can use adb to pull all files and boot.img ,and we can test it in a safer way
Okay guys, I thought what the hell, I'll try the LGE Black option in ROM manager and see what happens.

Hope this helps.

am kinda noob too..so hope this will help!xD
first of all,you need a adb.exe
you can get it from super-one-click,or android sdk, google it
for example,we pull files at d:\system
copy adb files in d:\system
and then,open cmd(win+R,enter cmd)
connect your phone before we start.
type
Code:
d:
adb pull /system .\system
ok then it will pull all the system files into d:\system
does it back up to a directory on the SD card? if it does, you need all the files in the directory. there should be a few .img files along with the nandroid.md5 file. put them all in a zip and upload it.
look in sdcard: \clockworkmod\backup\
the directory the files are in should be named with a date+time stamp
Any chance?

1. Download Android SDK http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
2. Install it on C: (not on Program Files for Easy Access)
3. Connect your phone through USB with debugging on
4. Open Command propt from your PC. (windows button + r / type "cmd" without quotes)
5. On command prompt type "cd c:\Android\ASDK\platform-tools" (without quotes then press Enter)
6. Then type "adb pull /system" (without quotes then press Enter)
7. wait till it's finished pulling the files
Now go to C:Android\ASDK\platform-tools. Copy all files now, zip it. Upload, they'll just exclude/disect the adb ones.
this is interesting. I'm going to try to use this method for rooting our P970.
Advices are welcome
Okay, I used ADB and was able to pull the system, boot.img and recovery.img.
Not sure if any of these are correct. The system file is HUGE (434mb zipped) but looks like every thing is there. Both boot and recovery are 5.00mb each.

that means, you are stuck with partial root. Now start over by flash pre-rooted stock gb rom.the thread is here
PROBLEM:Hi all,
I have had a problem with my Baseband version (XXXX) for a couple of months now.
I have posted a thread before about the same problem.
I thought I found the solution by flashing the stock ROM for my S3 mini, but there's still something that's not working.
So the problem is:
I can make Calls and send text messages on stock ROM ONLY. My mobile data is not working..
It also says: Baseband: XXXX
When I install a custom ROM (doesn't matter which one), I will not be able to make calls, send text message or use mobile data anymore. When I try to make a call it says: No Signal.
To make clear what I just said:
Stock ROM:
Calls & SMS: Working
Mobile Data: Not working
Any custom ROM:
Calls & SMS: Not working
Mobile Data: Not working
I don't know why Calls and SMS are only working on Stock ROM. (Baseband: XXXX).
I'm currently having stock rom, otherwise my phone is kind of useless.
How did this happen to me:
I have had this problem since I wiped everything in 'Mounts and Storage' in Clockworkmod Recovery.
I know this was really a stupid action.
But this can't be undone, so that's why I'm asking for help here.
I would really like to have mobile data back at first.
And it would also be nice if I can install custom ROMS again. (I don't like the laggy Stock ROM...)
Thanks for help in advance!

EDIT:
SOLUTION:
This worked for me, hopefully it will work for you as well!
1) Root your S3 Mini. (If you hadn't rooted it already)
Download a pre-rooted stock rom from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2122548
2) Download from the attached files ''Root Explorer v.3.1.4.apk'' and install it.
3) Download ''modemfs.tar'' from attached files below.
4) Extract the file, then copy the extracted file to your device. (Put it on internal or external storage, it doesn't matter).
5) Open Root Explorer, go to the ''modemfs'' file you have just put on your device.
6) Copy the ''modemfs'' folder and go to your root tab. Find the old ''modemfs'' folder and click on ''paste''.
If it promps to merge, click yes.
7) Now reboot device and your baseband should work properly.

Hi leather.face,
Thanks for your reply.
I downloaded the file and tried to paste it, but it didnt work: Permission denied.
Do I need to root my phone first?
I don't have the folders PERM and PROT, should I create them?
Do I have to flash nv.dat? Or copy and paste?
What should I exactly do?
I have a GT-I8190 device.

Hi ... Ahhh okay you have not a pre-rooted stock rom on your device?! Okay ... You must flash a pre-rooted stock rom on your device and then ... You can extracted the NV.rar under this thread ... And you have flash before a rooted stock rom ... You have then also the right root permissions for the NV.DAT from the NV.rar ... Sorry for my english but I hope you understand what I mean?!

OK thanks,
I will try to find a pre-rooted stock ROM.
I found a list with pre-rooted stock ROMS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2122548
I'm currently downloading I8190XXAMG4 4.1.2 (OXX multi-csc, PDA: I8190XXAMG4, CSC: I8190OXXAMH1) (thanks to tys0n) (This one had the same CSC).
I don't really know what I'm doing now exactly.
Once the download has finished I will flash the pre-rooted stock ROM.
I will install ES file explorer and hopefully I can give it root acces.
Then I will try to paste 'NV.dat' file into /modemfs/PERM/PROT
When I go into the folder modemfs, I dont see the folders 'PERM' and 'PROT', will that be a problem?
Do I have to create these folders?

OK thanks,
I will try to find a pre-rooted stock ROM.
Please help, I'm desperate..

Hi ... Your list with pre-rooted stock roms is okay ... I'm using the same page! I search the /modemfs/PERM/PROT folder on my nfc device with the root explorer and in this folder is the NV.DAT file ... But I have two more files in the /PERM/PROT folder and I'm not sure if you need the third files in the /PERM/PROT folder ... I still have the LABEP.CFG and the PPVALUES.DAT file in the /PERM/PROT folder!
Please make this:
1/ flash your pre-rooted stock rom via Odin and then,
2/ install a root file manager, no matter what, then
3/ search the /modemfs/PERM/PROT/ folder and you should not find this folder on your device then create manually the
4/ PERM and
5/ PROT folder with this permissions:
Code:
rwxr-xr-x
6/ the NV.DAT file in the PROT folder have this permissions:
Code:
rw-r-r
7/ You must then set the permissions manually!
8/ Is this okay for you? I wish you good luck!

Hi leather.face,
The pre-rooted stock rom has just finished downloading.
Which file manager is the best? Which one should I use? ES file explorer is OK?
I don't know how to set the permissions manually. Could you please tell me more detailed how to set permissions?
I only know how to create the folder, I dont know how to set permissions.
Thanks in advance!
I'm going to flash the pre-rooted stock rom now.

Hi ... My favourite root file manager is the root explorer ... But you can also use a different file manager ... Your question is good ... I don't know how to set the permissions manually ... With the root explorer I set the permissions as follows:
1/ I have a taskbar on the bottom bar and I type the + icon then
2/ I create a new folder and then,
3/ I press and hold on the folder ... I mean the new created folder and then,
4/ I can set manually my permissions for all folders that I like!
Greetz leather.
PS: I think the wipe in the TWRP or CWM Recovery is the ground for the folders lost on your device!
Edit: And how it looks on your device?

Well, on stock rom EVERYTHING works!
But on a custom rom (cyanogenmod 11) I can not make calls, send text messages or on mobile data.
So the problem isn't fully solved.
I would really like to have custom roms again, because I don't like touchwizz from Samsung.
I understand if you don't have a solution for this, but if you have, please tell me!
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I didn´t expect you would reply after you said you would sleep, so I´m sorry for responding lately.
Yes, I also see the other files, so I´m not missing files in these folders I think.
I think I´m missing files in other folders.
It seems that stock rom has... I don´t know how to explain... It has a file for ´signal for calls and sms´ integrated.
It is something that custom roms don´t have from itself.
I´m trying to find out what files I´m missing, actually I´m not even sure if that´s the problem.
Before I wiped everything at mounts and storage I never had this problem.
So that´s why I now think it´s a file that´s missing.
If you or someone else have other ideas, please tell me!
Thanks in advance!
Greetz, Daniel.

Hey,
I created an archive of my modemfs folder, copy this onto your device and extract on root level. It will overwrite your current modemfs folder with the one from the archive. No mobile data issues for me at all - I am using CM 10.2 on I8190 S3 Mini.
Do it with the "Terminal Emulator" app:
- Grant root perms by issuing: "su"
- Go to root folder level: "cd /"
- Enter the following command: "tar -xzvf /path/to/archive/modemfs.tar.gz" Obviously, this "/path/to/archive" has to be replaced with the actual location where you have placed the archive.
Good luck! :fingers-crossed:

I will try now, thanks.
I'll come with an edit when tested.
Question: Where should I put modemfs.tar.gz on my device?
And.. How will terminal emulator find that file?
Wouldn't it be easier to copy and replace using root explorer?

Whatever works out best for you, mate. You can put the file on the sdcard anywhere, just make sure that you go to root level before extracting the archive as otherwise it will just create this folder within the folder you are currently in.
Edit: You could of course also extract this folder anywhere and afterwards copy it as root user over to "/" - it really does not make any big difference...
