Something I'm not sure about, are CWM & TWRP backups interchangeable or if I have a backup based off CWM can I recover using TWRP. Thanks.

they are not interchangeable, however, you can have backups made from both, but have to flash "into" the respective recovery in order to use it.
There are pros and cons to both, and tons of conversations already about which is preferred - both have loyal users. It's a coke - pepsi thing IMHO...and then, there is the OUDHS brand too. Isn't it nice to have choices?
Thank you, this is perfect

Hi. on the download page, the file name is jfspr, but when I download the 2.5 version the file is named jflte. Is this the correct sprint version that is downloaded and just named incorrectly? thanks.

Technically it's still named correctly. Jflte* is the codename for the US S4 devices. Jfltespr "translates" to jflte Sprint --> Sprint S4.

I also would like to know if CWM is possible on the Droid 4. I've only seen this SafeStrap, which I honestly think looks and functions like garbage.
I've built a couple CWM roms from the online builder (http://builder.clockworkmod.com) for my HTC phones, and they worked great.
So what I'm basically asking is - is there a reason why clockworkmod won't run on the droid 4, or why it was discontinued and safestrap took over?
is there a reason why a custom build of clockworkmod would not work properly?
Personally I like safestrap. LOVE having multiple ROM slots. But anyway, I'm pretty sure I have heard the razr cwm recovery works on the D4.

Hey folks,
Looking into this very section, I find most of the custom recoveries lost long into previous pages. Plus not all of them offered flash able zips.
My intentions here at this thread is to provide you people with flash able zips of all the custom recoveries available till date for the Samsung Nexus S (crespo) all at the same place. For it would make it easy for new buyers who join our community, to find all the available custom recoveries. :victory:

I have provided the stock recovery for Jelly Bean, Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread for a simple reason, that some users might want to go stock without using the fastboot method of flashing factory images. I am still looking for more recoveries, if you can name them or provide a download link for the recovery image files for the same, It would be great.
Apart from this, I went through RZRecovery available here at Rootzwiki forum. But since the server has been suspended, I was not able to download. Does anyone of you have recovery image file for RZRecovery? If yes, then please bother to share

That's why.
don't be rude
the new back-up method from cwm recovery split the image in two parts first is the common for each back-up the second is the variable files which developers change in update, this method is maybe good if you flash rom"X.v1" then "X.v2" and so on, the common part is the same and only the modified part are backed-up, you got an huge first nandroid (in my case more than 1Gb) and then smaller one
previous method backed up everything, about same size for each back-up, this is convenient if you switch between roms
but, AFAIK, and having issue with 6.0 recovery I switched back to 5 non touch, the new one never run good on my NS and I find really odd the new method
Oh OK. Thanks for explaining. I guess I just might go back to bm's Carebear version then. I don't really like the light gray background too much. I still like the dark background and the cute bear.

The biggest problem to me with the new v6 CWM is definitely the incremental backup. It's good for the casual person that makes a nandroid every rom update for some reason, but it sucks major for anyone trying different roms with different base. The blobs folder will become huge, actually bigger than what the full nandroid of the rom would be, and you have to keep it on your phone at all cost because modifying it or deleting it will explode your backup.
It becomes a hassle to manage several different configurations and it just doesn't seem worth it to me.
Is it possible Brainmaster 5.0.8.2 is simply a mislabelled 5.8.0.2? Can anyone check that? From the time it was posted by BM it seems to line up a little time after the release of official 5.8.0.2...

Perhaps, 5.0.8.2 never existed. Koush directly updated for 5.0.2.x to 5.x.x.x due to his new introduced touch interfaced recovery. So it is definitely mislabeled

Maybe, maybe not. We know that a kernelthread (kworker) is using constantly around 40% of the cpu. But we can't find the cause of that or just stop it.

Official Philz Touch Recovery now available!!
LINK: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2461651
UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER REQUIRED
CWM 6.0.3.7 Advanced Edition / PhilZ (Touch) 5
(Note: This has a CWM based hardware button GUI. If touch is wanted, "PhilZ" will need to be "asked")
This was compiled against CM 10.1 sources. It is currently a working version of CWM 6.0.3.7 w/ advanced features. Just off the top of my head, you are able to work with (backup and restore) TWRP recoveries in addition to CWM. There is also adjustments for compression level, backup location etc. I did do a bit of a "sanity" check by backing up a "compressed TWRP w/ md5" nandroid and then reflashing TWRP 2.6.3.0 and restoring it. It seemed to work fine.

Confused - why exactly does "PhilZ" have to be "asked" in order to get a touch version? Of course we want the touch version, please. It's the biggest reason people use twrp over cwm. Thank you for posting this though. I'm going to try it out later tonight.

"The reason" from the dev thread:
The most part is open source and you can build for any device
The non shared parts are 2 main things:
- Touch GUI
- Make update.zip from current ROM or from existing nandroid backups
The Rom name, multi-zip (edit: now multi-zip is open source)... are not shared because they use parts of gui settings. When I have time, I will separate them and make them open source too
Reason: non shared parts are the payed features in ROM Manager

So, what exactly makes this particular old version the best? There are several threads covering pretty much all recoveries available for P31xx. If you are looking for the best recovery, check out PhilZ Touch CWM - chances are it will be the last one you ever need.
I agree. I have Philz Touch Recovery as well. It's more advanced and has a simple user interface.
