Years ago I used Windows Mobile and about the time 6 came out I remember an app that would change your volumes based on where you were. Then when I switched to Android I found Llama an app that will change your profile, turn on wifi, turn on bluetooth, etc based on location. I'm thinking of switching to WP8 so I was wondering is there an app along those lines for it? I can't remember if I found one when I was playing around with the Dell Venue Pro or not. And I know that even if I had found one it wouldn't work on 8, but maybe the dev updated it.
btw did the Dell Venue Pro remind anyone else of the old HTC Windows Mobile phones in that it got so many things so right and then just dropped the ball in reliability? I loved my Touch Pro 2, but the stock rom was garbage. The DVP rebooted half the time I shut the keyboard.

ive been getting more and more failed texts lately, the phone just cant send them, sometimes i reset the phone and they work, sometimes not. All of my friends with iphones and blackberrys say its happened to them maybe once or twice a year. So is it TMobile or is this just another in the seemingly endless list of android's failures? Android is my first smart phone, my g1, mytouch and nexus have all had similar problems im just wondering if other popular smart phones have the level of problems android does....i realize all phones have issues and android is still young (although that excuse is getting pretty tired) but its just all the damn time with these phones. I love android but at some point the phone's got to either work or im out...thanks
what messaging app are you using? Handcent seems to work for me rather well. I'm not too sure about the native messaging as I don't use it.
Same crap happens to me and I'm using stock sms.

Try out handcent. If you have problems, the developer is very easy to get in touch with and actually works with you to find the problem

Used it before, same issues. I don't think it matters what you use, I think its a bug in the Android OS itself.
from time to time, i've experienced SMS send failures on all of my smartphones, WinMo & Android. a soft reset/reboot seems to correct the problem. to the OP, what ROM are you using? have you asked T-Mo if they've been having issues with SMS messages? hope you get it resolved soon!
first of all, sorry that my post sounds so grouchy. My phone isnt rooted, but i do recall similar problems on my g1 and it was rooted, mytouch was not rooted but had same problems. Its not so much THAT it happens, because im sure it happens across the board to all phones, its just that it happens about every other day which seems a bit much for competitive smartphone software (of course, i am not smart so ive no idea that its the software and not the hardware or carrier, im just poorly connecting what dots i do have...) I had the problem with stock app and i tried chomp, same issues so i went back to stock, again same issue so i currently have handcent (which is an awesome app but i just hate having two icons/apps for the same purpose when im only using one of them).
the issue happens with handcent, and every time before restarting the phone i try the stock app and it doesnt work so im guessing its not the particular app, TMobile definitely has poor signal quality compared to the other major carriers, but i have 3g and full bars here in san antonio for the most part. If its not a particular app, i assume there is something in the android system that text messaging uses regardless of what app is being used; since i have 3g and full bars im led to believe its something in the android system? But again, android smartphones are the only smartphones ive had so i dont know if its just the nature of texting although like i mentioned the other two phones i have several friends who own report very very rare if any text messaging issues...
android is such an impressive software, so sophisticaed that i can understand that some part could mess up another part and cant be resolved without messing up yet another part. I cant even begin to imagine how to resolve all of the software issues android has, but if apple can do it, im confident google can too. i just hope the forthcoming litigation doesnt affect the efforts, i already feel like ive been waiting for some fixes for a long time, but thats probably due at least in part to my extreme, childish, and uncontrollable impatience...
Everytime I have issues with SMS messages, I am always using a HTC ROM. That is why I stopped running Hero ROM's on my G1. It would just not recieve the messages at all sometimes. I tried the Desire ROM on my N1 and it worked great for a while, then I started having issues with the messaging app (stock one). It would list the threads incorrectly by contact, but when you clicked on them, it would be the right contact. For example, I had a conversation with Jim, it would show what Jim said in his last message to me, but the name next to it would show Carl. I clicked on it to see the whole thread, and it would show Jim's name next to all of his messages. This was okay, until it started sending messages to Carl, when it was supposed to send messages to Jim.
I am not saying the HTC ROM is to blame, It might have been the back up and restore software I was using and how it is affected by crossing from a CM ROM to the Desire ROM.
Not sure if anyone has tried this or discussed it but, I recently installed an app called 'GPS STATUS' off of the market, and every since I have been able to get a lock on several satellites (with it running in the background). This was a MAJOR help for me as I hadn't got any GPS signal that was even close to precise in the whole month I have owned the phone. This is not my first android device (started with a G1 when it was first released...definately the reason I stick with android devices), but I feel it is one of the best available (less flash/flash player) but all in all a solid piece of equipment especially when we get the froyo update...(just my 2 cents; -))...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
getting now will test out the gps on the way home..... Update tomorrow
Update used google turn by turn 5 min to lock
after lock never lost signal GPS was spot on,,,, maybe this will continue to work
may be like all the other fixes, temporary
THANKS
Hi! I hope to write in the right area, but if not I ask someone to move my post in the right one.
Now I have a HTC Diamond device, but I've to change it for a GalaxyS or an iPhone4.
I would like to buy a GalaxyS device, but I read many posts about bugs, lags, gps problems, so I wonder if it is a great choice this GalaxyS.
I like android and all the development opportunities around it (thanks to XDA), but it seems to be not so stable yet...
I flashed many ROMS on my Diamond in the past, so it's not a problem to do the same for my GalaxyS, but problems are fixed? The GPS works fine? Maybe not...
Maybe with Froyo 2.2?
iPhone4 is not so open as an Android device, but it's a very stable device!
What do you think about?
coming from a winmo background you're gonna love the galaxy s! its miles ahead in terms of refinements, polish and brilliant integration. The GPS problems are nothing so critical...its more of a sw fix im guessing. I live in India, and i have ZERO problems on my GPS....i feel the bug is something country/carrier specific.
there are many things to love and obsess with the galaxy s....go get yourself one, you sure wont regret it
While I'd love to echo what dreamtheater39 has said, I can't. It's a brilliant phone, but after having mine for just under a month, it's starting to lag like crazy, and in the last two days I've had a ton of dropped calls and the phone has switched itself off/crashed three times in the last few hours resulting in data loss because the power button doesn't respond (forcing me to hard-reset the phone).
All I can say is that, if you do get one, have an open mind. And make sure you don't get locked into a lengthy contract in case things do go awry.
same here GPS working great since day 1

Maybe I got a lemon
Maybe I got a lemon but I can not stand the i9000. I have 4 bugs that drive me crazy.
1. Market Place hangs at starting download. I have to do a factory reset to download an update an app.
2. GPS just stops working or it puts you on a different street when you are using navigation. The worst part is then it has to recalculate the directions twice, once for the wrong location and then again for the correct location, which is a real pain in the pocketbook when you are rooming.
3. Receives invalided cert from a hotspot connects the 1st time then never again. So I cannot use my hotspot at work, my old iphone connects no problem.
4. Does not always switch between wifi and mobile network. Have to go to airplane mode and back to get 3G network. (I tried changing the wifi sleep settings)
Mmmm...so maybe it's a good device, but I understand that who had an iPhone before it seems to be a step backward...is it?
Hi....
I'm trying to collect some opinions and experiences of sat nav software on android..
I'm trying to achieve the same functionality I had on my winmo 6.5 using tomtom.
With that setup I was able to run tomtom in the foreground and have music on in the background.. With my bluetooth device I was still able to skip tracks in the back ground.
Currently I have used co pilot 8 on my android hyper droid rom v7. Some issue s I have now is.
when co pilot is in the foreground my bluetooth will not skip tracks to music in the background.
I have used this with no problems for 2 long journeys..but now all a sudden as soon as my phone gets a gps fix..co pilot freezes.. Tried reboot but that's didn't solve problem.
But if I use google navigation..that works fine with gps..so I don't think it gps hardware thats malfunctioning.
what's peoples thoughts on this please
check my thread here
what satnav...

I think this is not relative to copilot.
Got this problem with copilot, then i test with glob trafic and got the problem too...
I think it's gps relative ... perhaps kernel too confused...
Tried several kernel and got the problem with all of them....
Just upgraded my phone and Droid still works, are there any ROMs developed that don't have the radio? I want to be able to use WiFi and Bluetooth, but I don't want it draining the battery looking for cell service that doesn't exist.
Or is there an app or something I can use to disable checking?
Thanks.
I've been using Airplane mode. Still able to use wifi. Bluetooth starts up, haven't tried pairing with anything yet, tho.
Running both Steel Droid and MIUI.

I would also be interested in anything else out there! Currently running Gingerbread 2.3.7 and would like to hand this thing down to the kid to play games on. Therefore, no cell radio (only WiFi), no BT, etc... I know Airplane mode would probably work OK, but, I'd prefer just to not load them to begin with.
Is there a stripped won ROM out there that would suffice? Hate to see this thing sit on a shelf once my Nexus comes in.
Thanks!
I did the same for my kids. The Droid lasted about 3 weeks before the touch screen failed.
I would not let a little kid touch my phone o.0
