[MOD][Deodex][Odex][MF9]Extended Power Menu Mod - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Android Development

This extends the power menu to add Recovery, Download and Flashlight.
Thanks to jeboo for the tutorial located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2298771&nocache=1
Thanks to bingobingobingo for the 3D Icons located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37509777.
There are two versions. No prompt means that when you push one of the options it performs that task without a confirmation prompt. While prompt gives you that confirmation prompt.
DO NOT USE THIS IF YOU ARE USING A ROM, MOD OR WHATEVER THAT MODIFIES FRAMEWORK-RES.APK OR ANDROID.POLICY.JAR
YOU WILL EITHER SOFT BRICK THE PHONE OR REMOVE THE OTHER MODS/THEMES INCLUDED IN THOSE FILES
I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. You do this at your own risk.

Make sure you install the right version for your phone. Go to settings| More| About device. Look at build number. Match that with the zip. If you are odexed flash odex and vice versa. If you aren't sure use a root file explorer and check in system/app. If you see .odex files you are odexed. If not you are deodexed.
If you don't like the icons you can find the ones you like and replace them in the following locations.

There are only a few lines to change in framework-res.apk. Follow that guide in the OP and you can modify your framework-res easily. Or if you haven't modified values/strings.xml or public.xml just copy those from my modded file and the images. Then just use my android.policy.jar and boom you are set. In fact once you get it done why don't you send it my way so I can try it out! :good:

Just made it a little easier for you  Look at post 3 and you will find the files you can use that are already extracted for you.

I assume if my phone won't move past the yellow Sprint screen it's soft bricked? When I flashed the mod it gave me some message about installing stock recovery and I didn't go through with that, could that be the issue and more importantly, how do I get out of this? I'm pretty sure I didn't have anything else going on that should've caused this, I actually took my phone back to stock MDL and did the official update, no special ROM or anything then rooted and installed recovery.

I am not sure what that stock recovery message was. Which zip did you install and what is your build number in about phone? Download a stock Rom. Pull out framework-res.apk and android.policy.jar. Put them in the zip and flash. Or if you have a good backup restore only system.

Have a backup on my 64gb card which won't read in custom recovery, just pulled it and put it in the computer to move the files to a 32gb card and it's saying not formatted. Not freaking, yet but eeks!
Going to try the flashing. I really shouldn't mess with my phone late at night.
Missed the first part of your question. I flashed the odex hotspot mod, then the odex extended power menu mod (with prompt if it matters). After the second flash when I hit go back so I could reboot it said something to the effect of "this may restore stock recovery on reboot" and gave me the yes or no option. I hit no and it rebooted and that's when I realized there was a problem. This is the file I originally flashed to move me from MDL to MF9. bfeb51f4befc9f910dff1c6070f2d387aaac37de.update_SPH-L720_MDL_CSB_user_RP_to_MF9_CSB_user_RP.zip
These files I need to flash, can I get them from your stock rooted MF9?
Thank you for responding so quickly.

Well now it might be an issue with my computer because both my 64gb & 32gb are saying not formatted when I use the sd card reader and I know both have data on them. I've got to get one of these working or I won't have any way to get the files on my phone to be flashed.
This 64gb card has been nothing but trouble. When I get this straightened out I'm switching back to my 32gb!
---------- Post added 14th July 2013 at 12:17 AM ---------- Previous post was 13th July 2013 at 11:31 PM ----------
Finally found an old 8gb card and loaded up your stock rooted MF9 ROM and just flashed it. (I was a little unclear about the framework-res and android.jar path and I assume you've rightly gone to bed lol).
I really appreciate your help. Going to reformat my 32gb card, do a fresh backup and learn from my mistakes. (i.e. don't mess with phone when it's late and you're tired from travelling all day.)

I'd love to see screenshot as a power menu item. Also maybe Blocking Mode.

SUCCESS!
How happy am I? Huh? (the answer is very)
After flashing your stock rooted MF9 (and sticking with the 8gb sd card) I re-flashed each mod but in separate sessions, just in case, and everything worked beautifully! (oddly enough I didn't get that stock recovery message this time and I wonder if it has anything to do with flashing from internal sd the first time and flashing from external sd this time?) I admit I was semi-close to panicking (did I mention I'm tired?) but I've learned it's best to keep a cool head and walk through the problem slowly. You guys provide such excellent tools all we have to do is use them properly.
I love the extended power menu. I've been using Quick Boot forever and it works great but I'm trying to tidy up my app drawer so it's lovely to be able to remove one more.
Thanks for everything you do and everything you provide. You were a phone saver! Now I'm going to bed before I figure out how to screw up anything else. :silly:
(oh, oddly enough, when I put my 64gb into the phone to check it out it works fine. The computer recognizes it and all my files are there. How weird is that? Still switching to my 32gb card though.)

Works like a charm, thank you! :victory:

[Q] Rooted and installed the ICS Rom. Can I go back to Stock if necessary?

Hello. First off, I want to thank everyone for their hard work here. I have followed many tutorials and have seen many great conversations to keep noobs like me from making mistakes when trying to delve into the world of ROMs and rooting. However, I did encounter some troubles while installing the ICS rom onto my bionic (running on .902). I think I may have accidentally overwritten the stock rom backup that I made with safe strap or whatever that app is (I'm sorry, like I said, I am a complete noob). Is there a way to restore the phone to stock, as in before I even touched it, even if the backup I made during the process is gone by my mistake?
I'm sure this has been asked a million times, and if so, I apologize, but as I noob, I have no idea how to even begin to search for clues. Walkthroughs would be nice, but links are fine too, since I'm sure there are plenty of the same questions out there.
Thanks!!!

Thanks! Can that be used after the .902 update? Is it possible to do a dual-boot type deal between stock and the ICS version I have installed? I've seen mentions of dual-boot around here, but I can't get a clear grasp on whether it is possible or not, or if so, how to do it. Thank you very much!

Yeah I'm sure you can.
Get on stock .902(here).
Install SafeStrap.
Backup Stock Rom by Toggling "SafeMode"
Boot up ICS.
When you want to go to Stock .902 undo "SafeMode" and the Stock Rom should boot up on Reboot
Thanks for the answer! Hopefully I can give this a shot soon!

Enable Usb Debugging and Unknown Sources. Download Motohelper drivers
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
I'm sorry I probably should be a little more specific. I have both of those enabled and I do have the Motohelper drivers installed. I am following the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22758211#post22758211
On step 8, I do not see a file named FXZ or a file with that extension, but I figured it was the file with the name that the zip file had. I chose that file after clicking "..." and hit Start, but it doesn't do anything.
I am running the ICS version cyanogen mod 9.0.0-rc0-droid_bionic-kang build number alpha_2012_02_10
I already have SafeStrap installed (used that to get this rom on). So, looks like I'm stuck on or around step 8 from the other steps posted. Once I can get past that, I can continue with the steps posted in this thread!
Thanks!!!

Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
Yes, the XML file is the one I select. However, it will not do anything in RSD. Is there anything I can do to enable ADB in order to let RSD run?
Update: I found a way to do it. I think things are going okay so far. Looks like it is installing. If it does install successfully, I would like to do everything perfectly right going forward.
So, after this is installed, I will want to:
1. Get root access again using Motofail? I assume doing this return to stock will remove root access.
2. Install SafeStrap. Once that is done, I toggle Safemode to enabled, which will backup my stock rom and protect it from being overwritten?
3. Then, flash ICS from the zip files on my sdcard?

[ROM] Verizon i815 STOCK ICS rooted IMM76D.LP11 - Verizon OTA as CWM flashable ROM

UPDATE: My hosting I had for XDA related work expired, so I re-uploaded everything here: http://www.mods4cars.com/pub/xda
Here's the new Verizon OTA packaged up as a full CWM flashable ROM. Wiping should not be necessary if you are coming from our last ICS ROM (LP10).
This is meant for those who have CWM installed and for those who modified their system to the point that the OTA does not work because it expects certain files.
If you are on full stock (rooted) ICS LP10 and are not getting the OTA update the regular way, you can look here for a way to manually install it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1932597&page=26
The rom is pre-rooted. After installing, run super-su and let it check for binary updates. Also a cached copy of su for restoring with Voodoo OTA rootkeeper is included (for extra safety).
Part1: The ROM
Install with CWM
http://electron73.org/XDA/i815/electron_ICS-LP11_i815.zip
Part2: The MODEM
Flash with ODIN in PHONE section
http://electron73.org/XDA/i815/electron_ICS-LP11_i815_modem.tar
Part3 (optional): Stock Recovery
If you want to be full stock afterwards, flash with ODIN in PDA section
http://electron73.org/XDA/i815/electron_ICS-LP11_i815_recovery.tar
Part4 (optional): Stock SBL
If you did all 3 parts above and want to be able to receive future Verizon OTA's flash this in ODIN in BOOTLOADER section
http://electron73.org/XDA/i815/electron_ICS-LP11_i815_sbl.tar
Enjoy
Many thanks!

Did you have lots of apps installed? I just realized it's doing a run_program("/tmp/fsck.ext4", "-Dfy", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p10");
on the data partition. If that partition is full with lots of files then the check might take a while. The status bar doesn't move while this command is executing. I never tried it on a "full" partition! A freshly wiped data partition is checked in 2 seconds

Yeah, I had about 100 apps installed. In any case, I tried it again through CWM. When it did the check this time, it took about 10 secs. So the first one must've been a hiccup or something. I was able to flash ROM and then radios through ODIN, so I think I'm good. I looked at the files on the internal storage and the SD card and they are still there, so I'm assuming that I'm good. Anything else to check or are there any log files that you want me to try to grab for you? Thanks again.

Hmm ok, definitely good to hear that it ran through the 2nd time. Maybe I should kick the FS checks out. They are still left over from last time where we had all those partition problems...
If you want, go check in the /cache dir for any log files left by CWM, maybe there's something in there.
Btw. Thank you for the generous donation! It is very much appreciated

Also, regarding the current ROM, I really curious about the supposed batt life increases. My tab at this point is barely getting 4-5 hours screen time with it set fairly dim. Is that normal or should I be getting more that that? I don't suppose that a ROM update will help with screen time much, but just curious to hear what others are getting.
Update was painless

My battery life is just shy of 8 hours with 40% brightness, wifi and 4G on. GPS off. This is better than LP10.

I have never tried TWRP on this tab. What's the current version for our i815? Does it work well? I assume just like CWM it doesn't accept stock OTAs though, does it?
I still keep going back to stock recovery in order to accept OTAs (which never come for me haha and I end up updating manually!)

It was hard to flash (the apk method didn't work, I had to use Odin -- which really is no big deal, just scary for some). In any event, I'm running 2.3.10 available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1809295
I love TWRP... so much easier than fumbling with the volume and power buttons.
Never tested with OTA because I rely on you! :good:
I like TWRP but wish it could mount my encrypted /data partition like it could for my Nexus 7.

Did you wipe data/cache? Coming from CM10 you definitely need to do a clean install. You can simply flash the "wipe" version of the LP10 rom first, then upgrade to the LP11

tried searching, no answers found

I have a samsung galaxy exhibit II 4g. I would like to root it and put Cm10.1 on it. can anyone point me towards a step by step? I've done it on the nook.
OK well first you need two files 1. A custom recovery cwm or twrp 2. Grab the rooted stock file located here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1686384
Flash your recovery reboot wipe everything then install the rooted stock file when it boots check and see if superuser or su is installed if so your root and then find the rom you like wipe then flash then your done.
Make sure you back up your contacts photos or anything you need before wiping or it will be erased.
Please note to those who's going to say there no need to wipe i do it to avoid any fc's taking the extra step aint going to hurt.
I would also make a nandroid backup just in case
If you like my post feel free to hit the thanks button.
You can just flash a ROM after you install a recovery. No need to root a ROM you are just going to replace.

I have asked a few places, all wrong I am sure of it. Newbie! I have successfully rooted. Successfully been using 10.1. I am just having a hard time getting the swap sd function that is right for this phone. some zips don't show up on my sd card during recovery. so that just tells me I need to try something new. I even tried starting over and attempting slim bean and aoim 1.0. these weren't there either. For fear of totally jacking up my phone. I will stick with 10.1 I like it and it is working.
to make a long story short. anyone know of a sd swap that will work on this phone? please include instructions if possible. I am loosing my mind. and I know it has to be a simple fix and probably a really dumb oversite on my end, I can admit it. I need my music and need to take pics that I can save!
Thanks guys

If you want to use aoip, i can walk you through it, couldn't be easier to swap sd on aoip and it works great.
If you like my post feel free to hit the thanks button.
yes please
That would be awesome! Is there anything special to remove 10.1 and are the gapps the same?
For best results wipe 3x flash ROM then gapps. Whenever you flash a new ROM you lose gapps unless they are included.

[Q] Tablet full freezes when left idle after a second flash of CROMBi-kk

I got my tablet just the other day and was really looking forward to using it.
I fiddled with the stock for a few seconds, but coming from a TF101 with 4.4 through KatKiss, there was no way I was going to deal with all the ugly ASUS UI and - more importantly - the lack of immersive mode. So right away, I downloaded CROMBi-kk (the release on 4/30 - it was quite nice seeing a ROM updated the very day I decided to install it) and set about getting to work.
I went with a pretty lightweight install. Mostly default settings/Nexus-like stock stuff, turned off most of the tweaks and didn't have it install almost any apps by default. Worked great for the first day. But I was having an issue with Google Calendar simply not having a sync adapter under my account settings, and rather than try and repair it I thought I'd first try re-flashing with Google Calendar installed in AROMA.
Ever since, no matter what I do, if I leave my tablet to idle it will freeze. It takes very little idle time - I'd estimate around 30-40s. So long as I keep touching and pressing buttons, it will keep running great, but once I set it down it freezes and can only be affected by holding the power to force a reboot. Whatever the image on the screen was will sit there doing nothing, and stay that way no matter how long I leave it.
I tried changing the kernel with the CROMBi-kk's installer. It tried the CM11 nightly, as well. Nothing I do is affecting the issue.
Right now, I'm trying to put on CROMi-X 6.1 to see if downgrading from KitKat fixes the issue, but this is very frustrating - it was working just fine before with just a calendar issue!
Didn't see any similar issues. Anyone have any ideas for what I can try? I didn't even make a nandroid of the first working install of CROMBi-kk because it was less than 12 hours flashed and I had no reason to expect any issues.

I flashed the ASUS kernel and installed CROMi-X 6.1 and it fixed nothing. So long as the screen is off, it doesn't seem to be a problem, but now it will go black and reboot if left idle for the same ~30-40s.
edit: if I abort any mobile dock upgrades (or don't start them), it seems to stay stable.

Shoot, you're right. 10.26.1.7. And now I see all the threads others have posted doing the same thing. I've really screwed the pooch. All this stuff reminds me how much I love my Nexus 5.
So now I just need to follow the instructions in this thread to get myself where I need to be, it looks like. But sadly, all the links are dead...
The link to the US and WW stock firmware both lead to a "Sorry, the file you have requested does not exist." Google Drive page, and the http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=3223 link to the stock recovery leads to a 502 Bad Gateway.
Any chance I could ask one more favor of you - pointing me to some maintained download links?

I am on the *.18 bootloader now. For posterity, here's exactly what I did in the simplest guide I can write up.
Download stock recovery.img from http://droidbasement.com/asus/tf701t/stock/
Place stock recovery.img into my fastboot.exe folder
Downloaded SD update from ASUS support. This probably varies by SKU, so hopefully you know if you are US/TW/CN/WW http://www.asus.com/us/Tablets_Mobile/ASUS_Transformer_Pad_TF701T/HelpDesk_Download/
Unzipped the SD update and put it on the root of a MicroSD card
Put the MicroSD in the tablet
Reboot tablet to Bootloader mode and connect to my computer through USB
From a command prompt in the fastboot.exe folder,
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
The tablet boots to stock recovery and the Android appears showing an update is in progress. Done!

Read MilesWilford's post carefully!
He did not flash the stock recovery to the tablet, he booted it in fastboot and since he had the firmware on the microSD, it recognized it and flashed it.

There hasn't been much talk around here about the download booster since G900AUCU2AND3 was the latest firmware about 6 months ago. You'd have to downgrade back to NCE and do some other tweeks before you can get that running without losing your GPS or Camera. There is a guide somewhere around here for that. So on lolipop right now, no.
And that nova launcher tweek doesn't really work either like some people claim. It only unhides the feature but doesn't get it to actually work.
I had it working on 4.4, was just wondering since like you said theres not been much talk.g900v has it so maybe port it from there?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
It worked in XDK but that was based on a g900f rom which is why I assume it worked. Perhaps I'll need to do this to get it working again. I'll try to look into it but I have so much on my plate I can't promise anything yet.
Ahh download booster is in AllianceROM which I'm running right now. So this seems to be the case. Just wait patiently. It'll find its way back eventually

This Link was the original guide to install Download booster. I'm sure there are updated methods to installing it, so you should search for those. (I followed this guide, but had some issues so I just stopped using it.)
Anyways, follow the guide all of the way to the end. Then open up Rom Toolbox Pro, or similar app. Locate RTBP's app manager, then go to the Settings.apk, tap on it, then go to "Advanced Freeze"
Scroll down until you see Download Booster, tap on it to Enable. (It is disabled by default.)
Reboot phone and it should work... for a little while. For whatever reason mine keeps turning off. I guess I should have used the files that were updated for 4.4.4.
Common sense would indicate this (but I'm lazy) but if I had to guess, Just download the 5.x version of the files indicated in the guide above and then enable download booster in the advanced freeze menu. It will probably work then...
Hope this helps.
P.S. I'm pretty sure you won't have to downgrade. But if you do, I suggest that you refrain from doing so. In the end, it will only be an @$$ pain.
P.P.S If someone wants to smali these files on the 5.x firmware for AT&T I'll see if I can edit/recompile them for download booster. After that I will need the 5.x Download booster.apk and I will try to write a more comprehensive guide.

Make a backup before you do anything
1) Just follow the link I posted earlier, with exception that the files come from a more recent ROM (i.e 5.0).
2)Be sure to copy/install them to the correct location.
3)Then use whatever app that allows an "Advanced Freeze/Unfreeze" and Unfreeze the Download Booster.
*****Example*******
I have Rom Toolbox Pro, so I would open it. Then tap "App Manager." Then scroll down to "Download Booster," tap on it, then tap "OK" to enable.
Then I nav to the corresponding folder, rename old files to "services.jar.bak" and so on, Then paste/move/whatever the new files into the directory.
*****End Example*****
Once again, I should point out that I have had issues trying to use this. The booster would randomly crash, and other times it would just disable the Activity completely, I'm not sure why it did that though... So I just gave up on this until I can find the updated files.

I have the notion to agree with this statement. My Idea was to take a peak at these files and then add the necessary lines to the AT&T packages, to help ensure compatibility. Then bundle in the DB.apk and viola! (Or, at least in theory it should work... right?)
I just need to find the files in the first place. If you can somehow provide a link the the VZW files, I can try work on it... no guarantees of any kind though.

I had some issues with rom toolbox, so i replaced the services.jar with this one https://www.dropbox.com/s/vziudszmba2l9zm/services.jar (I did backup the original) and rebooted, planning on finishing the process with rom toolbox on boot, but i got stuck at the AT&T logo screen until the battery died, i'm not sure which file you were referring to, but i either used the wrong one or you need to activate download booster immediately after replacement of the file, either way i'm going to have to reflash so anyone else be advised. Didn't have a backup sadly, worse things have happened though.

One of the reasons why AT&T has the download booster disabled is because it's not fully compatible with their software. I got mine working a while ago, but had issues with private mode, hotspot, gps, and camera. It just made the phone too unstable, the reason why the original poster as well as the others from that thread got away from it. It worked best on NCE, but after upgrading, there were too many issues that were never resolved.
