Ok so Im somewhat of a noob so I was wondering if any experts can help me out?
I wanted to get S-off on my HTC one so I can change my MID (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2322820)
I have a few problems with S-off?
Firstly, do I have to have my phone rooted to get s-off?
If yes, then I have to unlock the boot loader first and then root it right? If so can you give me a simple guide that shows how to unlock the bootloader followed by rooting?
Secondly, Can you give me a link to a SIMPLE guide to get s-off?

Look on this thread for a not so difficult step by step guide to get S-Off and unlock your phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314582. Only works with Hboot 1.44.000 though.

Yeah mine is Hboot 1.44.000 but before do the S-off tutorial, Should I unlock the bootloader and root the phone? or can I just do S-off?
Revone s-off can be run from a fully stock Rom, with no need to unlock the bootloader or rooting before. (Following the guide linked in previous post)

Using adb commands while booted in the stock Rom.
No you can be fully stock while using the revone guide if you don't want to unlock via the HTCdev method.
You only need to be rooted if you want to s-off without the use of a pc (using terminal emulator on your device).

I don't think you should be messing with S-Off when you don't really know what you're doing and haven't even got adb installed
Also, changing your MID can be risky and is a lot trickier than simple S-Off, which you should know how to do. I know someone who bricked their phone changing the MID.

I guess you are right. My knowledge is limited and I don't wont to brick my phone.
But on the other hand, I really need the 4.2.2 update. I have some problems with the current one.
Anyways, When I use fastboot, I get CID HTC__001.
Thats USA so I'm guessing it'll be a while for the update to come out huh? But my phone is not locked to any carrier.
How long do you think itll take before update OTA is available?
Thanks alot man

what is your device's MID ..? you don't have to mess with it if it's already PN0710000, changing the CID to HTC__Y13 should be enough to get 4.2.2 .. you can get your MID by typing fastboot getvar mid adb command ..
and in case you want to unlock bootloader and achieve S-Off, follow the links (Noob Proof) ..

Thank you so much.
I started doing what you said before you put this post.
I did the same thing but in step 3 I just changed the CID to HTC__Y13 instead of fastboot oem writecid 11111111.
When I rebooted I got the update for 4.2.2 and downloaded it too. But when installing it reboots into recovery and says aborted.
Do I have to to steps 4 5 6 7 8 or is there way to just install the downloaded OTA?

Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1373697 and download: HTC Sync (Installed then uninstalled for ADB drivers).
IncS main version downgrade toolkit v2.0.
RUU used for downgrade.
Extract all the files from the downgrade toolkit to your PC and run runme.cmd, following the instructions on screen.
Then run the RUU Downgrade (takes a while, around 10 mins so be patient).
When its finished running, you can verify if you have 1.13.0000 hboot by entering hboot (power on phone + vol down).
Then you can run revolutionary to get your s-off!

It is an attempt by HTC open up the phone for customization by developers. It unlocks the bootloader so that you can flash a custom recovery, a custom ROM and a custom boot image, but it falls short of being full S-OFF (security off).
If you have installed the latest OTA update which updates the phone to Android 2.3.5/Sense 3.0 then the HBOOT version is 2.00.0000 which cannot be S-OFF or downgraded, so unlocking at HTCDEV is your only choice at this point in time to root your phone.

I know that if you can get a Windows Vitual machine running on Mac you can do it.
Then when the RUU is running you can search for the ROM
Check it out. I know if you use the HTC one AIIO toolkit you can flash the extracted data to your device. Even the recovery.img from a stock RUU.

You probably need S-Off for that right? I'm on the 1.54 hboot and the s-off method only works on 1.44 I think.

Hi all, just wondering if someone with some knowledge can help assist me debranding my HTC One. I came from Samsung devices, and knew the ins and outs of rooting, flashing roms etc, but HTC devices seems so over complicated after reading through various forums.
All I want to do is debrand my Vodafone HTC One, and install the international uk firmware, and be able to receive ota updates in future.
I have been reading about changing Ruu, changing CID, and im just baffled by everything, although slowly starting to gain some knowledge.
Please I would appreciate if someone could give me the correct procedure to do this, do I need to unlock the bootloader before doing it? Already registered on HTCDEV website, just havnt unlocked bootloader yet.
I have spent hours reading info, and my head is practically going round in circles lol.
What do you mean by debranding? Do you mean putting a custom Rom on it?
Edit: I missed a section of what you said. I believe you have to unlock the bootloader, turn security off, and get Super CID.

All the following is dependant on having an hboot of less than 1.54. If you are already on hboot 1.54, you will not yet be able to s-off and follow this process until an exploit is found for the 1.54 hboot. Thanks for that info mate. I just checked and im on hboot 1.54, which means I wont be able to do this at the moment. Was that RUU you state an exe file? I guess I don't have to root or install any custom recovery to do this? First I need to wait on an exploit for sboot 1.54 to get s-off. Also it might be easier for me going down the custom rom route?

Until s-off is achieved for hboot 1.54, your only choice is custom roms. This should be fine as you are already updated to the latest firmware through Vodafone.

Until s-off is achieved for hboot 1.54, your only choice is custom roms. This should be fine as you are already updated to the latest firmware through Vodafone.

Ok cheers. I thought that I needed to be S-Off before I could install any custom rom, but I could root and install custom recovery with s-on?

Ok, now here goes lol. My understanding so far is that in order to install any stock ruu I must first get s-off. As im running stock Vodafone firmware, the CID must match this firmware. If I get s-off, I will be able to install any CID and stock rom, as long as they match one another. and as im on hboot 1.54 just now, supercid wont work yet, so s-off is a no no at the moment. I can still root and install a custom firmware though.
hello every one this is my first post i need some help please.
i bought a htc one preowned and i have since been in settings and its running a custom rom
android revolution hd 12.1 by mike 1986
my phone cid is htc_001
how do i return it to stock htc os
i have read a few posts before posting here i no i have to re lock bootloader then flash the ruu
i was wondering is there an easier way to relock bootloader and flash the ruu could some one also point me in the right direction
to which ruu to download with a link if possible to download.
thanks in advance for any help u may give with some simple instructions that i can understand as this is new to me and do not want to
make a mistake.
thankyou.
Is it S-OFF at the moment?

says m7_UL PVT SHIP S-OFF RH
CID-11111111
HBOOT-1.44.0000
RADIO-4a.18.3263.15
openDSP-v26.120.274.0202
eMMC-boot
so im guessing so
You don't need to relock, if you're s-off you can run whatever RUU you like.

Where was the phone purchased and what was the carrier? It's possible your CID was changed.
Assuming htc__001 is correct, the RUU collection is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39588860
There are no RUUs for 4.2, so this would mean downgrading. But you should then start getting OTAs.
Note that running a RUU will fully wipe the phone. So back up anything on it you want to keep.

You have superCID, which means any RUU will run. You have the generic European model. CIDGetter is pulling the original cid from some system file, but it doesn't reflect the actual cid.

Yes, that's the one you want. You don't need to relock or anything being s-off. Just plug into your computer and run the ruu.

That is a bit trickier and riskier since you don't know what was done to your phone before you bought it. I don't recommend going back to s-on because of this. However, running the correct RUU should put you back to safe stock.
Once the RUU has run and you've confirmed that the phone boots and is back to a stable stock configuration, you need to reboot and run a series of commands in fastboot:
fastboot oem writecid HTC__001
This will restore your stock CID. Note that there are two underscores there.
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Confirm on your bootloader screen that the CID is correct.
fastboot oem lock
This will relock your bootloader. Reboot again and confirm that it says "LOCKED" on your bootloader (Not "RELOCKED"). Boot up your phone and confirm that everything seems to be running correctly. You may want to give this a few days. Then reboot to bootloader when you're comfortable with it.
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
This will put you back to s-on. When you reboot from here, your bootloader should say LOCKED and S-ON as if it was out of the box.

I too need to put my T-mobile HTC One back to stock somehow, but don't even know where to start, I saw this thread so I didn't want to clutter up the subforum, and thought that maybe I should ask here. I'm at 1.27.531.11, S-ON, rooted w/ unlocked bootloader, and would like to make it look like nothing happened to it when I return it to the store tomorrow. Could you please give me some pointers?

You need to s-off first or it will say "RELOCKED" on the bootloader. Problem is you may or may not be able to s-off right now. There is a new T-Mo exploit that supposedly works but I know nothing about it.
Once you do that, you can run an older RUU, which will remove the TAMPERED from the bootloader, then relock and s-on as described above.

Crap. Well I know they're not going to check the bootloader lol, just that when you turn on the phone, you'll see the red text at the bottom saying "Developmental purposes" and I can't remember the rest of the message. Can I make that disappear so it just shows nothing on the white background but the green HTC logo? Btw thanks for the reply.

That goes away when you relock.
I followed the guide below to change my CID to HTC_13 to get the 4.2.2 update faster. Everything was fine.
Today my phone detected the 4.3 update with sense 5.5 and after I download it and I click install, the phone reboots and it installs for a while before a Red Exclamation in a red triangle appears.
After a while it reboots and Im asked to download the update again. Can You tell me why this is so?
I'm on S-OFF and Unlocked bootloader.

Then can you tell my why it fails to update?
I've no idea. So long as you're 100% stock, have the right CID and MID you should have no issues. It worked fine for me, but then again I'm S-OFF so whether that has anything to do with it I don't know as I downloaded the OTA and flashed it manually in the stock recovery
Me to.. just back 100% stock RUU 1.26.xxx.x and I didn't receive any ota update

bootloader doesnt have to be locked to received and install the update
can you verify what exactly was the first update you received?
after returning to stock yesterday, i received two updates and downloaded both
first update was some firmware fix and the second was the 4.3 update
both run flawlessly and now i am on stock 4.3 sense 5.5
s-off, unlocked bootloader
Does flashing a RUU also install the correct recovery? I have my HTC One S-off, unlocked and changed the CID to 11111111, flashed the RUU and now when I get the OTA it just comes up with the error that my version of Android is modified so it can not be updated.
What have I done wrong?
