Hi,
I've recently installed Xperia Active Launcher on my FroyoPro v2.5, and I love it. However, I've been having some performance issues with it that I would like to fix.
First off, I installed a system CPU monitor to see how much CPU percentage my system uses on average. When I unlock the screen, CPU averages at about 40 %, and in time if I was to do nothing it slows down below 10 %. If I was to swipe around the pages, it averages at about 30%.
If I was to run a too big of a game for the little Xperia to handle, naturally CPU jumps to close to 100%, but the lag it causes is constant. The game just slows down a bit in rate but there are no freeze-screen type of lags.
However, if I was to run Google Play Store (and this is the only app that seems to be critical to the system), the CPU jumps very high in percentage, and it even on occasion crashes the Xperia Active Launcher. I get a message that says Sony Ericsson home is not responding, and I get the option of either to wait or force close. Then the launcher breaks and reruns itself, reloading every single shortcut and widget.
So, how normal does this seem to you? Is there a workaround or should I ditch the Active Launcher and replace it with something else instead? Because I really like the look of the original stock ROM.
Also, while at it, is there any difference at all in performance between the Arc and Active launchers? Because they quite look the same. But perhaps there are modded versions out there that seem to be running better on the X8?
You should use the modded active launcher.
Also you can use nemus launcher.
Its very smooth.
If you want its link click on my sig. And go to must have apps thread.
And yes there is a diff b/w arc and active launcher in terms of memory usage.
Arc launcher consumes more memory.(based on my experiences)

The Nemus launcher does look really good. Even though I really like the corners that Xperia Active Launcher offers, and the overall stock ROM feel, I think that eventually performance would have to come first. The Nemus launcher looks very optimized and fast.
Is there a link you can provide to a better performing Active Launcher, the one that is modded? All I've found so far is a number of threads with same versions of Active Launchers, and a single Arc Launcher thread with numerous modded Arc Launchers (this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325108). I'll probably take another shot at trying the modded Active one and then decide if switching is necessary.
BTW, I pressed Thanks
Good to see that i helped you.
No luck in finding a smoother Active Launcher, but i did find this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1040668
What do you guys think, would this work with the Active launcher making it more smooth for our little phone? Also, is it the same as the "Lock home in memory" setting in CM settings?
BTW, the Nemus launcher is reaaaally smooth. I'm using it as a daily launcher while still trying something for the Active launcher here and there.
EDIT: Ticking "Lock home in memory" seems to have fixed the crashes. I need more time to see if it did the trick. Also, the phone activates much faster at the lock screen.
Using supercharger with hard to kill option enabled will prevent launcher redraws.

I'm surprised I never heard about this. I would love to install it, but beforehand I would have to install a newer version of BusyBox. My version is 1.15.3. I've read somewhere that if you install a different version of BusyBox after you flash a new ROM that there is a good possibility of hardbricking the phone? How true is this for FroyoPro and is it safe to do?
EDIT: I've noticed that the crashes, following the activation of "Lock in memory setting", now seem to happen only when I install or uninstall an app. At no other occassion did it happen, even if I was to bombard the phone with app activations. I switched through the Active, Nemus, ADW and Zeam launchers, and it seems it happens on all of them. I don't think this is any longer a launcher issue, so I started investigating.
It seems that moving the apps to the SD card was when the problem first began. I did some reading on the internet, and some users believe that having too much apps can in time start clogging the launcher whenever there are too many apps for it to call. There's no easy fix, short of buying a phone with a much bigger RAM capacity. Then again 3rd party scripts like this Supercharger you mentioned can help, but I'm not sure how safe it is to run on my phone. I've read about lots of cases where the phones became hardbricked. Still waiting for feedback on that one
If it asks for upgrading busybox then dont use it.
'cos me got hardbrics 3 times in attempt to install busybox.

A shame But thanks for the warning. The problem isn't much of a hassle anyway for the risk of a brick. Perhaps if I was to some day get another phone and won't care less about what happens to this one.

Hi all. I'm having a hard time getting Omar's ROM, with CM SMS app to consistently notify me of messages.
My phone is usually on silent, so I rely on seeing the blinking green light.
Sometimes it blinks, I unlock phone and swipe down, but there is no notification, because it's already marked as read by the time I get that far.
Other times it never blinks because the message has been marked as read before I ever see it.
If i'm using the phone I see the notification in the bar and it shows unread in the app. So when the phone is locked and I need the notification the most it's automatically marking my messages as read... but only somtimes, very frustrating.
Can someone please make me less angry about this? Or possibly point me in the right direction to troubleshoot it

Flash this in CWM. It will replace the CM Messaging App with the tweaked Moto Stock one. After that it should working.

Cheers for that, i'll give it a run over the weekend.
Any insights on the issue though? Messages are received as normal it seems, just getting marked as read when I haven't read them.
The CM App seems a lil bit buggy.
I can send and receive sms, but when I send one, it stucks @ "sending" while the Message is already delivered. Others don't receive sms if they are to long and so on.
But no big deal, fix it with the zip and enjoy an great rom.

HSD-Pilot, would you please share correct information?
The link you provided is the tweaked Messaging.apk - but there is no "fix" by me.
Someone has created a CWM-package and renamed Messaging.apk to Mms.apk, think, to overwrite the CM version.
I don't know what happens, if someone has old Messaging.apk and "new" Mms.apk (which is the same then) side by side, because the signatures are the same.
I provided a new package for CWM, please use that.
This will delete all Mms.apk-stuff and reinstall the correct tweaked Messaging.apk version.

I have resolved it before instalation of omar's ROM. I deleted MMS.apk and MMSdependencies.apk in his .zip file and I inserted there original Messaging.apk. I have now stock messaging app with dark theme...I like it more then AOSP. It works well. I have needed stock browser (due to flash) and WiFi tethering so I inserted original apks also. I installed zip after this.
I have changed brightness curve also because Omar's is really dark for me especially outside when someone is calling and I didn't see display.

Thanks for the suggested fixes. The .zip by shaftenberg appears to do this after the fact, so i'm happy. I'm usually away from my PC when I install a new version of a ROM, so altering the contents of it are a no go here.

Thanks mate for your effort! This new CWM would be better as it fixes indeed weird problems during install. Better than having two same apks side by side, you'll never know what the users did and how they did it.
Slightly offtopic: I can't get over the workaround of having standard and CM messaging app side by side, this is weird. In that case it would be better, someone fixes the CM version for our RAZR rather than dirty hacking something.

I renamed it to Mms.apk, so it overwrites the CM messaging App.
This was meant as an fast fix, some builds before and it works. I thought it would be fixed in one off the following releases.

Hi guys,
I bought a China Mobile M35t, which is pretty much the same as Xperia SP except that it runs on China Mobile's proprietory 4G Network.
The bad news is, Google's been erased from the phone, which means I can't sync my contacts (and there are many).
I have played around with the phone and have rooted it and it now has Google Play Store. But I still can't sync my contacts, and some apps are blocked to me on the Play Store. I suppose the workaround may be to use another country's SIM but that still doesn't help me with the contacts.
SO my question is, can I use an American Xperia SP ROM? It would be self-defeating if I somehow lose the 4G.
thanks,
Mark
So, you are running wich version of Android ? the 4.1.2 ? So, you can download a Internationnal ROM, and extract contactprovider.apk it may work in your phone : Just put it on /system/app and put permission rw r r
Or directly flash the .254 with flashtool
Deleted as there was a double post. Apologies.
Android version is 4.1.2. THe build number listed is 12.0.C.2.42.
Do you think installing an international ROM will work on this phone?
Try to install .254 with flashtool, you'll be fixed

Hi WingKwan,
Yup I did! I had to revert it to the previous ROM (by flashing the phone, and installing the official ROM), rooted it, and installed the necessary Google apps. So it now runs Google Now, Play and other apps. The only downside is I can't update the ROM when the 4.3 is released. Oh, and Google Play lists quite a few apps as 'incompatible' with my phone, but the workaround is installing those apps through other stores.
that's alright. Thanks for being helpful!

If Google play has incompatible apps then use build prop editor to change m35t to c5303 Google play will then see your handset as a global sp and let you install apps accordingly

Hi guys, I realize it has been a while, but I have one (hopefully) last question about my phone.
My google apps are all running smoothly, but I realized that my location services has a feature missing.
In Settings -> Location services ->
I only have one option/slider, which is 'Access to my location'. I do not have anything else, and it is a blank space below 'Location Sources'.
I have read that our phones should have
Settings -> Location services -> Use wireless network
So, my question is, how do I get my phone to use the WI-FI for location, as opposed to always using GPS? There should be a Google setting app I'm missing (I think).
thanks,
Mark

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I first rooted it last year (.42), but when I updated the stock ROM, I couldn't root it again. I was then forced to flash my phone and reinstall .42. I have been using it since.
All my Google apps are running, but honestly sometimes I wonder if it is worth it. Google is blocked in China, and I can't use Google Now. Maps crashes intermittently even when I'm not using it. On top of all that, my phone has become very slow despite using Greenify and Smart Booster. By checking Settings > Apps , I can see that the bulk of our 1GB RAM is exhausted by Avast (ok, I'm paranoid) and the Google Play Services, which constantly restarts. I didn't have this problem outside China, so I can only assume it is due to the block on Google.
What is really strange is, Chinese apps can determine my location using WiFi behind the scenes.
This is a thread that has only 10% of its content related to the Xperia SP.
Hello,
I generally don't like these kind of the questions as I always prefer to explore the Development section to try out the roms myself but I'm currently on vacation and a relative asked me to help her speed up her Galaxy S Advance. I just don't have time to spend a day flashing roms.
So, what I'm looking for is a fast and stable rom. Don't care if it's not KitKat and "only" JellyBean or if it ain't the fastest either. I suppose it's going to be AOSP/CM based as I doubt any TouchWiz Rom will do.
Any suggestion ?
Thank you !
Also, it needs to be fully functional...

Search for CM 10.1 build 20131117 if you want something really stable, incredibly fast and with awesome battery life.
Or search for CM 10.2, use latest build available. Less battery life but nothing big.
Stay away from KitKat ROMs if she needs long battery life.
You can find ROMs on our Dev-Host, under janice folder
For that CM 10.1 build search in its thread.

Thank you very much, I'll look into the 10.1 build!
May be I am late. But one should check out carbon Rom kitkat 4.4.4 by Flo0008 if they want a fast and battery friendly and bugless and most stable Rom. It gives me 7+ hours of continuous web browsing in 3g for a 2 year old battery. (nearly 8 hours off total screen on before getting low battery warning). Awesome.

7~8 (and less than seven) hours of screen on are totally impossible on this device, unless you install CM10.1 and heavy modify some things. Even less if a kitkat ROM, even less if your battery is 2 years old, even less if you count that other kitkat ROMs don't last more than 3/3.30 hours screen on and all these ROMs come from one only device tree, the Team Canjica one!
I think that here in this forum I'm the only one (or almost) that reached more than 7 hours of screen on time with original battery and using CM10.1 with a lot of mods. And trust me, it's impossible in any other way

@AntaresOne I am not always getting 7+ hours (may be once or twice) But definitely getting 6+ hours of web browsing (with a white browser background). I have achieved it even today. For me kitkat is always more battery friendly when compared to stock jellybean. I will post my screen time screenshots when I get time. I particularly want to mention that with abyssplug governor, most of the time cpu frequency idles at 100mhz. I am motoring it with cooltools module. May be that's a reason.
BTW, I have never flashed cm 10.x. All I have tried was, Jetmod, Resurrection remix, liquid smooth, slimkat and dirty unicorns. But I am settling with Carbon kitkat.
Additional info: sync off, wifi off, google backup off, freezed launcher 3, Google contacts sync, Auto brightness off, screen set to bare minimum brightness, Google play auto update and update notifications off, zram off, ksm off, empty_apps minfree set to 150.
All animation scales set to 0.15x, lcd_density set to 182.

Right now my battery is almost full. I will post my screenshots after using for a while normally with screen on browsing and when my battery is low.
By the way, I am not using the carbon final build. Because, hover is removed from that build. I am using the pre final build 19. Carbon is rock solid for me. The only thing that was not working was magnetic sensor. But after calibration using advanced tools pro magnetic sensor working fine.
In the past I did used a lot of init.d scripts, mods, supercharger script and whatever that can be found in the internet. The only thing that gave me some performance boost was crossbreeder. But I am tired of them all and now using no mods or scripts.

I got 7+ hrs once or twice yes. But I am getting 6+ hrs for the last 20 days frequently without any script or mod. So, I am happy with what I am getting now.
I am not saying heavy mutitasking or watching YouTube gives me this battery life. But I am getting this is with very moderate multitasking and mostly browsing.

I am not stressing you but you may try crossbreeder script latest from here:forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113150 (If you already know about it, then ignore). Also download his entropy app and turn on all three switches and reboot once. Do note that it will disable other entropy related apps automatically(seeder will not run - as it is not required).

Here you can find the secret about repartition [emoji57]
And yes, if something goes wrong just reflash stock JB, using correct PIT file for your model, enabling "Repartition" in Odin

Sorry for disturbing you, but my question is will any conflict occur in flashing stock JB, because of the partition sizes differing from stock rom. (If I understand correctly, enabling repartition will automatically reformat the disk sizes and the modified partition table will get reset- RIGHT?)

Repartition is not intended to be used on any stock-based ROM, but only on custom ROMs (4.2-4.3-4.4), read OP in that thread for better infos. Enabling repartition will restore stock EMMC's GPT resetting any kind of modification. Using Odin's repartition option along with correct PIT file (in that thread there are PITs for i9070/i9070p 8/16GB models) it's safe, don't worry

Hi, everyone
Since android 5.1.1 released and I started to customize it(using WanamLite v3.0). It's usual, that roms being debloated etc, but still sometimes newly installed apps make battery drain faster and as for me, I still use apps like facebook, FB messenger etc. So I found a better solution to speed up phone, keep ram free as much as possible and safe battery.
So, it's quite easy actually(but I wasted a lot time to configure it normally without any system conflicts).
USE ONLY ONE OF THEM AT THE SAME TIME!!!
Method one:
So solution is to download app from play market https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.disableservice . You should run it and grant root permission. Next you can either configure it manually wasting a lot of time, or an easier solution is to use app's "restore" and set my config. That's all. Enjoy. Will be good to reboot phone. You need to place backup file to location showed on screenshot. Config deactivates all analitics services, tracking, automated bug reports, memory dumps, etc. No critical or needed services modified, only garbage taken down. You can open that backup file(it's plain text) to see affected services.
So, enjoy. Hope someone will find it usefull. Greenify is also welcomed to use to make phone faster and suspend pointless background apps.

You're welcome. In addition to speed, battery and memory all tracking services I found are turned off. So either you're not going to be tracked at all, or much less. Note, that this config affects app lists I had on my phone. If you have any other problemating apps - post here a list of it and links to download them. As far as I'll get free time, will tune them too.

No. Greenify suspends apps periodically. This one disables services from being executed at all. Guess you don't need garbage like analitycs, tracking, ads etc. This disables that services so apps unable to run them at all.
If you go to that app and use my config file, see services marked red color. That is what I turned off.
PS. To predict next questions, program link provided in the first post is not my program. Simply program comes with no configs. You have to handle on your own. Since thats not easy, I made configs with garbage list to block on my own and shared it and it allows you to simply install app, place my backup file and enjoy without reviewing over 500 services to find out what to turn off. If you don't like my config, you can customize it or make manually in app your own.

The guide below is OUTDATED. UPDATED guide for method 2 is here
UPDATED on 15 Semptember 2015
So this second method is more advanced, since it includes services and broadcast receivers being disabled. Tested for a few days and no bugs found. Config is safe. In case you want to hold a original backup - do a nandroid backup, or directly in app config backup before placing my own.
So, let's go. Go here and this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.myandroidtools
Launch app, grant it root permission and go to "About". There you'll see a location where backup file being stored. Do backup and move that file to different place, in case you want previous config back. Now download mine(attached in this post below) and place to location shown in app(replace file). Press restore. Done. You'll have to wait 1-2 mins till all settings applied. It's recommended to make phone reboot then. No wipes needed.
Enjoy.

IMPORTANT!!! IF YOU USE THIS METHOD(IT INCLUDES BOTH SERVICES AND BROADCAST RECEIVERS - DELETE METHOD ONE'S APP FROM YOUR PHONE TO AVOID CONFLICTS!!!).
If everything goes ok, you should see in app something similar to that(depending on what apps you have installed).
Hope you'll enjoy it

Thanks alot for this. I used method one first..it was great. Now i did method 2.
Im wondering. Do I need both apps "stopservices" and "myandroidtool"? Or i can just delete stopservices app since Im using metjod 2 now?
