[Q] I think I bricked my One. - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a UK Vodafone HTC One. It's running the Trickdrpid Rom with TWRP 2.5.0.0 recovery. Everything was working fine until I flashed tbaldens kernel to enable lock2wake function. Everything went ok with flashing (I think!) but upon reboot, nothing. Just flashing back and home keys when I press the power button. I can get into recovery but have no rom on my internal SD to reflash. The PC gives the USB spund when i boot into recovery, but the phone storage doesnt show up on PC. Is there any way to get another Rom on the storage to reflash, or is it bricked? Please help.

There is an option in TWRP to sideload with adb. Try pushing a new Rom with the ADB Push romname.zip
Then you should be able to locate it and flash it

Thanks for the quick reply. Is there a tutorial on ADB anywhere? I've not had experience using it before.

http://developer.android.com/tools/help/adb.html
You will need to install Android SDK if you don't already have it installed.
If you are using windows open Command prompt and Change in to the android-sdk/platform-tools folder.
In here you can run the ADB devices command to see if your device is showing up as connected.
If so copy the rom in the the platform-tools folder to make it easier.
so lets say your rom is called rom.zip the command to push would be
adb push rom.zip /sdcard/ (OR WHAT EVER LOCATION YOU WANT)
If all goes well you should be select zip from storage in TWRP and flash it.
Hope this helps

Ok. I've managed to upload the Rom via sideload. But now I can't find it anywhere on the SD card?

Coincidentally i'm having the same issue when installing the same exact kernal (lock2wake) last night.
It soft bricked after it was flashed using the AndroidRevolution rom
No USB access despite popups and there are no roms installed on my SD.
I can access the bootloader and recovery (Clockwork) but thats about it.
I'll follow the instructions Gaz posted above and see where it takes me.

There should be an option to install from side load in your recovery.
If you can't find it I would recommend flashing CWM for the flash. You can do it via the fastboot method or the HTC one AIO toolkit. The toolkit option is the easiest.
Then when you are in CWM select install zip. There should be an option in there to install from ADB sideload.
Here you push the the Rom zip via the adb sideload Rom.zip and then it should install. Let me know how you guys get on
If you need anymore help feel free to PM me and I'll try to explain it more if needed

got it working! thanks gaz
Review:
1. I (soft) bricked my phone flashing TeamSeven Sense "Home2Wake" kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2255160
2. My phone currently had the android revolution 12.0 rom installed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183023
3. To unbrick my phone and get access to the bootloader/recovery, i perform the following step
gunnyman said:
put the phone under a bright light.
hold down power, lights will flash and phone will shut down in about 15-20 seconds
then hold volume down and power to get back to bootloader

4. Once i had access to the bootloader, i navigated to recovery (CWM-Touch) but couldn't reflash my rom since i no longer had the zip file on my internal SD.
5. So I followed Gaz instructions posted above by installing the Android SDK files from http://developer.android.com/tools/help/adb.html
6. After I installed the SDK on my Bootcamp Windows 7 Home (on a Macbook), I copied my rom to the platform-tools folder and renamed it something shorter.
7. Then I opened command prompt and used it to pushed the rom file to the root of the internal sd (followed gaz instructions above)
8. Once completed, I re-opened recovery and reflashed. Fixed.

I just want my PC to recognize my phone.. Once that happens, i think I'll be in good business... The list of devices attached is none...

Did i brick it already?

Like an idiot i flash a mod for a de-odexed ROM to my stock ROM UK Three M7. So stuck at the boot screen.
The problem is i cant seem to do anything about it. I have no back up (I know !!!), no ROM file on the device to flash and i cant seem to push anything to it.
ADB just says no device found even though it was working ok. Can anyone help? Ive tried it on multiple PCs.
AW: Did i brick it already?
Go to recovery Mount your memory to pc. Copy a Rom. After that flash Boot img via fastboot and then Rom from recovery.

Did you tried with ruu?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
As understand it if you have an S-ON device(i do) you have to use the right onee or it will fail. Its Three branded unit,so i need a three RUU. There isnt one out there.
RUUs only work if adb can see detect it
Have you tried going through fastboot? Just fastboot some boot.img to get it to boot, then put a ROM on your sdcard
It sees it now. I can get into recovery (CWM) and fastboot, but i have nothing to flash on the phone, i cant get anything onto the phone to flash! I try ADB sideload, it gets to100% but it says..
E: Can't open /tmp/update.zip
(bad)
I tried pushing to the SD card but the recovery then doesn't see the ZIP, its just not there.
/sdcard wont mount in CWM, nothing happens.
I tried a boot.img from the Maximus thread.
Ok its now accepted the sideload! Ive installed the ROM and its rebooted...
Its back!!!!!!

If you could get into recovery, theres a toggle / enable mass storage mode too? You couldve done that to mount your sdcard

Thats what I meant before
But nice to have your device back. I'm waiting for my One too
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Yeah there is no toggle in CWM and the stock recovery I reflashed was only a test build, and didnt actually do anything.
Well its now working again fine. I dont really know why it worked, but it did. It was suggested i try the Aroma file manager first, which sideloaded OK and let me browse the file system. I then re-downloaded the ROM I was trying to use (Maximus) and tried that. It worked with no errors, although the Aroma installer crashed the first time through, which I understand isnt unusual on the One.
Seems i didnt need to access the SDcard at all, it was just a problem with sideloading. It may have been a corrupt ROM download.
Needless to say i now have a CWM backup, Titanium backup and a ROM file on the SDcard just in case.
You cant mount USB storage in recovery on the HTC One, you can only use ADB Sideload to send the ROM if your stuck in a bootloop or if youve erased the system partition:
I have uploaded the latest binaries to my dev host account.
1. Download and extract these to a directory and copy the rom over into the same directory.
2. Boot up your phone into twrp recovery or a recovery that supports ADB Sideload.
3. Select advanced and adbsideload (Your phone will be waiting for the file transfer.)
4. Open command prompt in the above directory you created with the binaries and rom.
5. Issue command "adb devices" (You should get the serial number with sideload next to it)
6. Finally issue command "adb sideload rom.zip" (rom.zip will be the name of your rom)
This will start sending your rom to the handset and will automatically install.
Hope the above helps

That's what I was doing, it simply wasn't working. It might have been a corrupt ROM download.

Could very well be. Happens more often than you would think
But the mass storage thing is strange....I've seen it on almost all recoveries, but i know TWRP no longer has it in their newer builds, maybe the same thing happened with CWM?

Easiest thing would be to put your ROM.zip on your usb and plug it into your phone before entering recovery. I'm not sure if Cwm classic supports otg but Cwm touch and twrp do

Apologies, I've just tried it myself in CWM Touch 6.0.3.1...
Go to Bootloader screen and plug in your cable
enter recovery
install zip from sdcard
choose zip from external sdcard
Works for me...
Sometimes if it doesn't mount I go to 'backup and restore' -> restore from external sdcard -> Go Back -> Go Back -> try it flashing from 'install zip from sdcard' again. (Although I have a nandroid backup on my usb so that may not work for you)

if your device shows, enter recovery
command: adb devices
if your device shows,
adb push name_of_your_rom.zip /sdcard be sure to put a space before /sdcard. be sure the 'name_of_your_rom' is named exactly the same as your rom.zip
After a while your rom should be on your sdcard, just flash it as normal.

Just did as you said. The tricky part is with opening command line in the specified folder, I would never have guess that you have to hold shift.
Now waiting for the file being moved to sdcard, after push command the _ is blinking as the file is being send right. File is sent XXX bytes in 222.sec
I tried to instal from the sdcard the recovery reboots itself when I press instal from sdcard

ok, can you select install zip from sideload or does it crash?
if you can, select it and command in cmd (from your mini-sdk folder)
adb sideload name_of_your_rom.zip
once its finished sideloading it should begin install on your phone automatically
If you can't do that, try re-flashing your recovery and try everything again.

Just hold down volume down + power button until it reboots. You may have to do it under a bright light. Keep holding them until your fastboot/hboot screen appears.
Try re-flashing your recovery as I said above and try again - if that doesn't work then I'm afraid I'm out of ideas

Without OTG Cable
Boot TWRP, then select “Mount”, then select only “Data” and connect your HTC One to your computer.
Considering you have adb.exe (Windows, part of fastboot.zip) or on Linux:
cd Downloads\ROM.zip
adb push ROM.zip /sdcard/
Replace ROM.zip with the ROM filename you copied earlier to Downloads (or any other) folder, then install the ROM.
It should be nearly same running CWM recovery. Hope that helps.

It is fat32 I can see all of the files with root explorer when the phone is booted. I initially had the zip in a folder on the drive than I moved it to the root of the drive. in twrp it still shows the drive just no files.

Help Needed Please

Hi, I know this is going to sound so stupid but I need help ASAP.
I was fooling around with installing different ROM's for my HTC One, I tried the Google Edition for a while and decided it wasn't for me as I lost the TV remote. I then tried to re-flash the Android Revolution HD 12 I had on before and it wouldn't flash. I thought a wipe would work but now I've succeeded in ending up with a TWRP recovery that works fine but no software whatsoever to flash or boot to. The phone says 'No OS Installed'
Every time I turn off the phone it also says that it doesn't appear to be rooted, do I want to install supersu? The phone says 'unlocked' with CID 11111111
I have totally fallen into the idiot trap, too much confidence and ambition, zero skill and talent.

You should be able to use this toolkit to install SU and also to sideload a rom zip from your PC to the phone to reinstall your ROM of choice. Sounds like you wiped your data partition entirely. Since you have S-off and Super CID you should have no problems loading another rom. Just have to use one of the creative ways to get it on the phone (sideload, USB-OTG adapter, etc.)

Well the easiest way to do a sideload is using the All in One tool. Do you have access to any other PC that have Windows 7 or XP? I don't have a win 8 system to try to assist with compatibility mode with the one.exe tool.
If no other PC options are available then we will have to go the long way which will involve installing ADB like in this guide: (Under Installation section - It has 5 steps for installing ADB)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427008
Once ADB is installed we can use these steps from the sideload guide that I posted:
Make Sure HTC Drivers are installed and ADB is already working
1. Reboot into TWRP
2. in TWRP, Hit advanced and find Sideload
3. Swipe to start Sideload
4. Open a CMD Prompt window and Change Directories to where your adb.exe is
5. type adb devices and it should show your device connected and say sideload
6. Your ZIP file should already be in your adb folder - See Example Below
7. You are now ready to push the zip.....
8. type adb sideload nameofzip.zip <------------See Example Below
9. Wait until it says 100% and reboot back into recovery to flash the ROM
10. If hitting power does not make the screen come one, type adb reboot recovery
11. if adb reboot recovery does not work, hold power and volume down until it reboots to fastboot then go to recovery

Adb Sideload

Hello all,
I made a big mistake and wiped my Sd card on my rooted, Unlocked M7. I was able to get recovery(TWRP) back on but for the life of me cannot sideload a Rom on it? At the moment it has no OS. So that means I cannot open usb debugging so I could manually place the ViperOne rom back on the SD. I've never sideloaded anything but after watching many youtube videos and failing ( cannot read ROM.zip) its driving me nuts. Is there maybe an easier way? Maybe something else I can try?
I have tried to load for both desktop and platform tools( both I can see my device).

This error is usually caused by the file being in the wrong location. Make sure "ROM.zip" is in the same folder where you have adb and fastboot on your computer.

TWRP 2.6.4.0 also include mtp drivers so you can see your device storage on your ocmputer when booted in recovery mode.

Like alray said flash TWRP 2.8.4.0 and the phone will be seen in windows and you can just copy the file to the phone and flash it
I already had a "Install recovery v1.2" in my downloads so I tried this because I was unsuccessful with all the other attempts and low and behold it worked. although its an older version of TWRP (2.6.3). would it make a difference not having the latest? now that recovery is there I was hoping to push a ROM then update the recovery through root manager.
I just read alray's last line about the mtp drivers. OK, I will first get my folders working better, upgrade to a newer version TWRP and then push a rom. Is there a difference in "Fastboot adb sideload flash ViperOne.zip" and "
" adb sideload push ViperOne.zip"? Two video's used 2 different commands.

you don't need adb at all if you load TWRP 2.8.4.0 you just copy the file in windows like to a flash drive

If you are going to update twrp to 2.8.4.0, you will not need to push or sideload the rom, just copy it to your phone storage using the windows explorer. Navigate to "my computer --> One --> Internal storage" and copy your rom there.

These 2 commands means nothing. SO no, there is no difference between these 2 commands, both will fail lol
if you want to use adb push:
Code:
adb push name_of_rom.zip /sdcard
if you want to sideload:
Code:
adb sideload name_of_rom.zip
But like i said, you don't need to use these commands to get your rom on your phone if you are gonna update twrp to 2.8.4.0.
download twrp 2.8.4.0, save it to the same folder where you have adb and fastboot installed on your computer. Open a command prompt from that folder, boot your phone in bootloader/fastboot usb mode.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_recovery.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
then boot in recovery mode
you'll now see your phone storage on your computer, copy (drag and drop) your rom.zip to your phone storage.
