Question about Google Wallet and Root? - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Do Google Wallet still work if the phone is rooted and bootloader unlocked?
I been away from Sprint and cdma devices for awhile and the last I knew, it worked but just had that annoying warning displayed when the app was opened.

I don't personally use it, but I think that's how it still works. Could be wrong though.

there is a way!
there is a way to get rid of that, you need to install the xposed installer along with MaDoCo toolkit. there is a video on you tube on how to do it by wwjoshdew. cant miss it. good luck. I used it with stock roms, but when i installed an aosp rom (IllusionRom) it wont load and says something about the device not initiating or something. anyway good luck

So far as I'm aware, it'll show up on a GSM device as well (anything where the system detects that the bootloader/secure element can be compromised). As above poster said though, it's simple enough to hide if you use the MoDaCo toolkit.

What did you do after the root?

So, as most of you know a root for the AHD came out yesterday. I wanted to say thank you to everyone that worked hours and hours on getting the root, even though Dan gets the money lol. But there are many new comers to android out there, including myself. Coming from the iphone I can tell you everything you can do once you jailbreak and iDevice, but what all have you guys done after you rooted your device. I have owned one android and played around for a while on many, but most of which were completely unlocked and had new roms installed ect. ect. So I thought it would be a good idea for people to be able to post what all they have used the root for so far, so maybe we can use those ideas and make this phone even more awesome.
The first thing I did do was calibrate my battery and have noticed a little bit better life today than I do most days.
I also uninstalled some of AT&T's annoying bloatware (which IMO belongs on NO phone)
So share what you did and give some ideas to all the readers!!!
Thanks again Dan for the root and I know Matt worked for hours and hours on it, so I would like to thank you too

Great thread idea!
First i removed att bloatware/unused ringtones and notifications
Changed boot animation
Gave already owned apps root permissions to do things like one touch reboot, auto dpi changing.
And right now I'm working on changing the color of my softkeys
Underclocked.
Once i get home from my business trip i plan on porting cwm and seeing what we can do from there

Lol I was thinking the same thing. The EB40 is an awesome upgrade and I def considering it. I just am at home and work where my phone can be charged all of the time anyways. Not to mention once we get some bloat free roms that run more efficiently, the EB20 should be okay.
After rooting,I install RootExplorer,SQ Lite,Titanium Backup,etc.
Unlocking stock wifi tethering and enabling stock sms delivery reports.

Removing Internet Browsers

Hello,
First off let me say I'm not great at rooting my phone. When I had a Samsung Infuse I did it on accident pretty much and now that I have an Atrix, I'm no good at all. I'd like to be able to remove my internet browsers, the default one and Chrome, and I'd like to remove the Google Play store too. Basically, I just want my phone to have my email, 2 or 3 other apps I use, and that's it. Last time I removed my browser on the Samsung Infuse, I lost my data connection. Does any one know an easy, safe way to remove both browsers and Google Play? I'd almost be willing to pay for this if it's possible.
Thanks!

Why would you want to remove the play store? and only have 2 or 3 apps on a phone like this? why not get a dumb phone? If you really want to though you can root your phone then use titanium backup to remove the apps.

Kind of a personal thing, with the main thing being I love the phone, but don't like wasting time with the internet. And if I have access to the internet, I'd be stuck on it all day. Thus, I'd like to remove the play store to block access to doing that. Just using the apps I normally already use and keep those and remove the rest.
I've tried rooting Super One click but that doesn't seem to work. What is the best/easiest/fastest way to root my phone?

Basically what you need to do is flash the stock ICS image (4.0.4), root it, then install an app called "Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper" (on Play as "OTA RootKeeper" by Supercurio). Then you "temp unroot" via Voodoo and apply the 4.1.1 update. After you install the update you install Voodoo OTA Rooteeper again, and voila, you can restore your rooted phone.
There are posts in the thread I linked where people ask "can you flash 4.0.4 over 4.1.1" and have been answered "yes," but I didn't have to do it personally.
One of the steps is to update superuser and then update the superuser binary. There are 2 ways to do this, one through the app store & with the superuser program, and the other to "replace the apk in /system/app with the one in /data/app." I struggled with this step. I could update Superuser via the app store, Superuser would detect that its binary was out of date and then try to download the new version, but the installation would always fail. I ended up copying Superuser.apk and "su" from the Superuser website and copying them to the phone using ADB. Since you've said you suck at rooting, this might be too much for you. I don't now how necessary it is, maybe others can comment.
Good luck! Although I'm somewhat in agreement with other sentiments regarding your post ... a dumb phone & a dumb iPod would solve your Internet-distraction problems for a lot less hassle... plus put a decent wad of cash back in your pocket.

Well, I've thought about that, but I really like several apps that I don't want to lose, such as Google Maps/Navigation, Google Music, Sermon Audio, Google Drive, and Bank of America among the main ones. Thus, I'd rather keep the phone with data and rid myself of these 2 other distractions and nuisances.

Google Wallet Tap and pay

Is anyone having issues with tap and pay set up for Google Wallet? It doesn't work for me and I have NFC enabled on my HTC One. It's rooted and running ViperRom.
Wallet's Tap N Pay will not work while rooted, also i asked an HTC CSR and they said that unlocking the Bootloader broke the chain of trust for the Secure Element which makes the tap n pay possible, now dont take my word as the gospel it's just what ive been able to find in my research

Works just fine on stock, rooted, unlocked. Always has. Rooted means your device is "un-supported" meaning if it doesn't work don't ask Google. Unlocked boot loader shouldn't matter. It sounds like it is definitely your rom. I had minor issues after the latest update but all i had to do was wipe the application data and re-set it all up
Thanks I'll try some other roms. Before I do that, i need to get my mac to read my HTC through Android File Transfer and have to figure out why DriveDroid can't gain root access (even though i have SU on my phone). #firstworldproblems lol

Xposed got big because it brought customization to many phones that had root but locked bootloaders. It's a little less useful when you're on a custom ROM but there's a lot of app hacks. I like it to do simple things like save all my Snapchats without notifying people or unlimited skips in Pandora.
Not to mention some of the top devs prefer to work on Xposed rather than ROMs since it isn't device specific. So a stock 5.0.2 ROM with the Gravity Box module has more customization features than most of our current ROMs do. Here's the full module repository:
http://repo.xposed.info/module-overview

Xposed does a heck of a lot more than just block ads. The uses for it are almost endless. It allows almost limitless customization. Everything from UI modifications to, unlimited Pandora skips. It literally gives you all the options of a really really feature filled custom rom while still running the stock rom. Take some time and look through all the xposed modules for it and all the things they can do. That should give you an idea of how much you can do with it.

For me its the little things. Like crappalinks. Don't ya hate how tapatalk does a link hijack? Fixed. Want to use Google voice to text with Swype. Fixed. Hate the stupid "hey dummy, you are using a vpn, that you know, you like installed and set up and launched?" Fixed. Removes a lot of little annoyances that the custom ROM devs are too busy making the **** work to begin with to address.
Also, Gravity Box, lol. The last six months or so of my use of my old S4 was on a Google Edition ROM port. It was by far the best performing ROM, but it also lacked features, kind of like the stock based ROMs here. Gravity Box brought almost all of the features of custom ROMs to the GE ROM.

Xposed is a framework that allows you to "inject" new functions, settings, code into any ROM or app. For example, you may want a custom rom so you can customise your notification quick settings. With xposed, you can install a custom module that will allow that without changing the rom. If no rom has all the features you want, find the feature you want as an xposed module and add it.. Thats what the fuss is about. Its very flexible.,
Here is one of my favourite modules on this device...

Actually I found out about adfree and tried it. Still get ads in apps. Of course YouTube still has ads too which I don't expect will be fixed until we get xposed back.
Xposed is awesome and I cannot wait to get it on 5.1. So someone asked what does it do/why use it? There are many reasons.
You want to keep the original OS after root but still want all of the features of cyanogenmod or whatever. Xposed has a lot of them and more. For instance you could set your verizon phone to tether with a click of a button, add a date in the top toolbar, change colors of things, add battery %, get rid of ads, etc. Just tons of awesome things. With my gNex I always just flashed new roms when I wanted new stuff. But with my moto X I wanted to keep the OS and still get those advantages so I used xposed and really liked it. Now with the n6 I again really like the OS so I do not want to flash a new rom so xposed it is (once its working).
I think xposed is the way of the future. No more flashing roms and stuff when you can keep your OS and just add features you want.
I really just use it to get most of the customization I used to get from custom roms without the hassle of having to flash custom roms all the time.
It will come to 5.1 just need a little patience, it didn't take that long to get it on 5.0 and that was a much bigger update.

Yes the Android modding scene has changed drastically in the last few years. I remember when I first got into modding Android on my Verizon S3. That was also when xposed first came out. 3 flagship phone generations ago. I remember waiting for the Verizon Jelly bean update. 4.1.2 Hahaha. Gold old days. (only 3 years ago. Lol). We had actual leaked insecure bootloader on the s3. The last Samsung device on Verizon to gave a legit unlocked bootloader. Not the work around line Loki or stupid safestrap on the s5. That's why I quit the Samsung line last year and got an M8. Now I have a Nexus. Quitting Samsung was a good choice though by the looks of it, the S6 in all its variants sucks. If I wanted an iPhone I would get an iPhone.

Use Samsung Kies
good question on the counter, I have restarted my phone and have not seen it, Buuut I did freeze knox though. As far as updating Use Kies took about 10 mins
USB audio?
I got the Lollipop update this morning through T-mobile. It was smooth to update, and I haven't noticed battery issues or anything others had reporter.
However, I was super-excited for Lollipop, because it allows for USB microphones. And I've tried all 5 of the ones I own without success. I tried Samsung support, which was useless. They weren't even aware of the feature.
Do you think it's possible that Samsung or T-mobile bypassed this native feature to Lollipop? I was connecting via OTG cable. I haven't tried mic to powered hub to OTG yet, because I've seen Nexus owners on Lollypop just connect USB microphones via OTG.
I'd be grateful for any advice any of you gurus have out there. I am not rooted or running anything custom. I've been fairly happy with stock. But, like I started with, I was all the while looking forward to this Lollypop update for portable recording via USB. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks.
Downloading as I type...I'm sure I am wasting my time since I been rocking BeanStalk 5.0.2, but my curiosity is making me just give it a look and see how it works. It'll be nice to use the S-Pen features again, but Lollipop without all the bs that samsung and tmo put on there has been nothing short of amazing.
Why have the note 4 when you can have PURE android just like you want with the new 6 inch moto. But whatever guess I will never understand why people will buy a car. Strip it off its goods (rims/system/under the hood upgrades) just to have a classic stripped stock vehicle? I mean already having the features why give then away? I will never understand

Assuming that you're talking about the Nexus 6/Moto X Pro, there's no need to debate/discuss why I would want TouchWiz on ANY level, which is why I was close to buying a Nexus 6. Honestly though, for me, while the Nexus 6/Moto X Pro isn't a bad phone(they're both really great phones), they lost me with no way to add extra storage or remove your battery if needed. In addition, while I have been running Beanstalk for the last few weeks, I still think the S-Pen is a really great feature to have on the Note 4. There's really no need to go into details about which phone is better, because it will always come down to preference, but in regards to your comment, it's not as stripped down as you present it to be.

Can I ask how you did that? I upgraded from BeanStalk to stock Lollipop via Kies, but I'm getting force closes on gapps services. Can barely use the phone they are coming in so frequently. What did you do to uninstall gapps and how did you get the correct version installed?

No attitude here, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I am certainly not hating on you for what you're saying and personally, in many(maybe most) aspects, those are flat out better phones than the Note 4. I just installed this bs lollipop so now as I type, I am flashing back to BeanStalk. The lack of a removable battery i could live with, but the expandable storage is a necessity for me, the only reason I am staying with the Note 4 since most phones that are coming out are converting to that style.

You do not need to install gapps on stock ROMs. They are included. Installing them as a zip will break them. So, factory reset (or fresh install), and don't flash gapps.

Hey. Thanks for the reply. I actually didn't install gapps over the stock ROM. Not sure what it didn't like installing over Beanstalk. I did a wipe before I installed via kies. Anyway, I resolved by doing a factory reset, like you said. Did two actually. All is well now, thanks.
