hi.
Is it possible to install stock rom from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 wit cwm recovery?
Will instaling stock rom with cwm recovery overwrite my cwm recovery? If I am rootwd now, will I have still root after installing stock rom?
If you install a stock Rom, you'll lose both your CWMR and root, unless you do it using Mobile Odin.
yes you can flash Stock ROM with CWM. n you have to select 'keep CF root' when it ask.
For detail guide, Download guide from last link on my signature you will find ' Update ROM using CWM' in New folder.

I must've skimmed the OP, hence the inappropriate reply.
My Note was never bricked BTW. I had flashed angelom's v1, not v1.1 or v1.2, and managed to pull back in time.
Your posts are always to the point and very helpful, too.

Thanks for your reply, but your guide is about cwm manager, but not cwm recovery.
What about cwm recovery, can I update rom and keep root and cwm?

You need cwm from cf, with stock recovery can't flash any rom.
You are rooted already then get cwm first.
You said to keep cwm, means u have it, stock recovery can't b erased. Stock recovery hav limited set of function. I believe u have still confusion in understanding cwm, just read more.

I think you can not install stock rom with cwm recovery. But you can restore backups.
There is difference between CWM - its and application which can be opened when you boot in the phone, and CWM Recovery - you can access it without/before booting in the phone.
Sorry if my answer is wrong.

CWM recovery OR better term is stock recovery, which exist on all device(inbuilt stock function), which can be access with Vol up + Power + Home
This have limites set of function, Just wipe cache, n wipe data.
Niether stock Nor custome ROM can be flashed
Nither backup Nor Restore is possible with it.
For this fuction, you need to have CWM application, which can available only if you have your device rooted. If tou have flash CWM, then you can access it with same method(three keys), but menu will be more advanced.
Hope it should be clear Now.
n7000 stock android with cwm installed
Hello there,
I wanted to install kitkat on my note1, n7000. I rooted the phone with philz cwm6 ddlsc. Everything went good. I then tried to install the kitkat 4.4.4 and it keeps giving an error and does not install. Later doing some research i figured i need a version of 6.4 and above of cwm in order to install 4.4.4. So I decided to leave all this and go back to stock 4.1.2. I did not unfortunately create a backup. Now that im trying to install it through odin the stock android, odin does not detect the phone. I have wiped off cache, user data and dalvik cache. Everytime the phone is booted it goes to cwm menu.
Please help me install the stock android and remove cwm/root.
Your help is much appreciated.

Although this is the note 1 forum but yes usually that's how it works. If you backed it up using cwm, then restoring should also work. You will need to do a factory reset 1st.
I am looking for an eMMC safe ROM. I just bought a GT-N7000, I had the i717 before this one. I've been baffled at trying to find information on what is safe to flash, how to flash it, and what isn't safe to flash. I am currently running CM10, but I'm having issues with the GPS, etc, not to mention I would love to use the S-Pen again. Is there a thread that gives all of the information about what I can/can't flash and not brick my phone? I've searched, but everything I've found doesn't say anything about the eMMC bug.
I apologize in advance if this is something that's common knowledge, it's just that I am new to the GT-N7000.
Thanks,
Rob

So, let me get this straight. You would flash the kernel and ROM through ODIN?
Thanks,
Rob
Kernels are flashed through ODIN or CWM, ROMs are flashed through CWM (or ODIN if its stock firmware)
Anyway, Your on CM10 now, So your obviously rooted with CWM too, So just simply download a safe kernel (I HIGHLY recommend HydaCore cuz' its awesome ) then download ROM of your choice.
2 ROMs I would recommend to try (this is completely down to my likings) are:
CleaNote (Made by same awesome dev as HydraCore kernel) Completely stock ROM but with all the crap removed - Design for Stock look and feel, But super stable and fast !
RocketMIUI - Made by an awesome dev who also makes RocketROM - This is MIUI ROM, Highly customisable, great theming and tweaks packed full of cool goodies and apps, But also keeps the S-Pen features and apps (such as SNote , SMemo etc etc) Also, Battery life is fantastic (Im getting just short of 2 full days ! )
Once you've chosen your ROM + Kernel, Place them on your SD card, Boot into recovery, flash the safe kernel, Go to advanced menu and select reboot recovery.
Now, Do a full factory reset, along with cache and dalvik cache (under advanced) then go to 'Install zip from sd card' then 'Choose zip from sd card' Then select your ROM
Leave the phone to do its magic and once completed, select 'reboot now' and enjoy
** First boot can take upto 10 mins - dont panic if you think its not booting, Just give it time. Also, DONT forget to do a backup before doing any of this, Either a full Nandroid backup and/or a titanium backup **
Best of luck :good:
excellent explanation

So, just to be sure of what I'm doing here. Let's say I flash Cleanote, if I wanted to go back to CWM so long as I have a safe kernel installed I shouldn't have to worry about an eMMC brick, correct?
Thanks Again,
Rob
CWM is recovery, You will have it for as long as you use custom roms.
The brickbug only exists in stock ics kernels, so as long as you avoid using them you will be fine, plus, once you try hydracore you wont use anything else and hydracore is 110% safe so always use it when performing full wipes ect :good:
Sorry to steel your thread but my doubt is i rooted my note using supersu in zip format from recovery, now what i know is i dont have a CWM installed, so should i install it to flash a safe kernel or can i do it from the recovery mode?

I think it was the Galaxy S3 that I had that the kernel had CWM built into it. That's why I was thinking when you changed the kernel you had CWM installed too. So the note has a separate recovery partition?
Thanks Again,

PS: I really appreciate the help. It's frustrating for someone who hasn't had the international note during the eMMC era to flash things. Bricking this phone would break my heart, lol.

OTA sometimes dont work if ur device is rooted.. it only happens on stock kernel and stock recovery.. but u can update it via kies. or with pc odin. if u want OTA then u have to go back to stock kernel and unroot

i guess that s3 also had a custom kernels cuz the stock kernel will never have CWM as its a custom recovery.
when u change to a custom kernel, it will mostly have CWM builtin
Why do we actually need a CWM when we have recovery mode, sry if its a noob question

its mainly for flashing custom ROMs and do advanced tasks as the stock recovery dont offer such facilities.
more over ICS kernel is not safe even to do a factory reset. so if ever ur becomes slow and u want to do a factory reset u risk ur phone.
so better install a safe kernel and all safe kernel comes with clockworkmod recovery and its safe to do a reset
I guess safe to reset is related to kernel not to CWM? Why do we actually need to replace our recovery?

As far as I remember, there r 2 EMMC erase things..one related to the kernel & other one related to the recovery..below text is from one of Ketan's post here.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1894293&page=5

I have tested kernel. This kernel won't universal for all but just like Cf kernel. It will be according ROM. B'coz here there is no other modification from stock kernel but just made it safe by removing mmc_erase_cap command.
This is stock kernel but binary patched with MMC_CAP_ERASE removed from both recovery as well kernel
Best thing is you can flash with stock recovery and also gives root.
So anyone want to test let me know."

You're on a safe kernel, it should be fine to flash straight to 4.04, but you'll need to do full wipes in cwm before and after flash.

before you do that connect to PC and delete whatever you can then move to recovery
I also recommend you format your internal sdcard in recovery, after saving whatever you need. This way you ensure there's no personal data left which any app might have left.

Rom i flashed: N7000XXLRI---4.0.4/12.07.17-N7000NEELP4---Download--- Nordic countries
I first went into cwm and did full wipe, then i used odin method like it said in that thread. I loaded the md5 file and put note in download mode. it said "Pass" and note rebooted.
I also now tried to flash the same rom in cwm (I put the .rar file in root of internal memory), i get an error right away says (bad) and failed. is it wrong rom?

If none of this works you are going to need to download dr.ketan's prerooted GB ROM and flash that. With PC odin..because since its GB you can do a factory reset in stock recovery and there is no risk of bricking your phone... then use mobile Odin to flash LRI

1. yes philz doesn't let you do a factory reset from settings to stop you from bricking your phone. I mean did you do a factory reset from STOCK ICS before this problem happened on the stock kernel...
2. IT IS IMPORTANT that you tell us WHAT THE ERROR in Odin 3 is...
3. You can get CM10.1 from dev section of xda. you need gapps too. This will all be linked in the original post of that thread. download it and put it on your phone's SD card - you can hook up the phone to computer and boot into philz and then use your phone as a storage device to copy it over. To install it, in philz, first wipe /data /system /cache /preload and dalvik-cache from mounts and storage. Then, flash CM10.1 zip. After that finishes, flash GAPPS.
3a. You can THEN use Mobile Odin to flash the .tar file from CM10.1 of LRI
3b. ALTERNATIVELY you can, AFTER ALL WIPES, try PC Odin 3 again to try to flash LRI
3c. ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE is that instead of flashing CM10.1 as i suggested above, you can try a modified samsung touchwizz rom from the development section of xda.
---------- Post added at 09:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:07 AM ----------
I FORGOT - If you choose you JUST want to do warranty, and we can't get it working, you SHOULD be able to flash CM10.1 even if you damaged your phone, since you can get in recovery and its a light rom... then get far enough through the boot to run Triangle Away (search XDA) so that yellow triangle is gone... We can discuss this when the time comes if you want.

So:
1. i installed from sdcard via philz cwm6 CM9.0 (as i read on xda)
2. after that installed from sdcard CM10.1 via philz
3. flashed gapps
4. reboot
5. nothing. it keeps shutting down
what should i do next?
OK since your under warranty your best bet is to run triangle away from xda to remove your yellow triangle if you have it...

I dont understand. The Mobile Odin is apk right? How can i open it in philz cwm?
Search for triangle away on xda and if you consider to donate please buy it from play store and install it you will find the option to reset counter.. Your phone will reboot in kind of download mode.. Press upkey to continue resetting would be the option.. Just follow the prompts

Are ALL stock JB kernels safe? Also, should the phone get stuck in a boot loop while updating from OTA or flashing with Odin (coming from ICS) would it be safe to factory reset? Thanks
There is no use trying to risk formatting in stock recovery.. If you have issues with bootloops upgrading from OTA or odin.. Install philz kernel.. It is safe from brickbug.. Do the wipes that is format /system /data/preload /cache /dalvik cache and use odin to flash stock rom again.. Do remember to flash philz kernel after that..

I need to keep stock, no CWM or non-stock kernels, which is why I'm asking if JB kernels are safe.
You can but in that case dont wipe on stock recovery..

Right, to cut a lonnnnng first post story short, basically, rooted my phone yesterday, went well, installed some rooted apps and was having fun, one app, 3D something, from Google Play. it asked me to restart my phone after setting superuser (i thought this was quite weird) anyway i boot locked my phone - got the typical "Samsung GALAXY Note GT-N7000" and the phone woundnt move from there, i can gt into vol+ home and power and vol- home and power still. so after some research i found i had to flash therelivant stock ROM using odin - so i did. and it worked. then at somepoint today my phone got stuck in a boot loop consisting of the GT-N7000 screen then the samsung spash screen. when i do vol+ home power, i get in red text "E:/error%20in%20/data/recovery_last_kernal_log.txt" - what does this mean? and how(if at all) do i fix it?
i have curently re-flashed stock ROM and vol+ home power & "wipedata/factory reset" and so far so good......
any help or shed light would be a great help
Phone is Samsung GALAXY Note GT-N7000
Flashing the stock rom won't change anything if you have not wiped data. It just restores the system. What rom are you on? JB or ICS? To get everything to factory standards, install philz kernel.
Then boot into Cwm and choose wipe data,-clean before new rom flash.
Once it's done, choose reboot download and flash the rom again with odin. This way anything that the "3d something" might have done will go.

thanks a million for your reply
1. Install philz kernel from recovery.
2. Boot into Cwm recovery and choose clean before new rom install.
3. Choose reboot download.
4. Connect to pc and flash rom using odin.

vol+ home power - and install
boot into cwm and choose clean before new rom install
reboot into download
and then flash stock rom?
one last question... will the lastest philz kernel work?
thanks again
i currently have PhilZ-cwm6-XXLT4-OXA-4.93.6-signed on my external sd.... will this do?
yeah any kernel will do as you just need recovery... once the kernel is installed, boot into recovery.. You should see CWM based recovery.
