[Q] Query regarding the inside part of back of samsung flip cover - Galaxy Note II Accessories

I have a samsung galaxy note 2 and a samsung flip case. However the problem is that the other day I saw a flipcase, it had two circular round things which were very small. However, my flip case doesn't have it. Also I saw that there are two things of the same golden colour besides the sim card slot. I feel that the back cover must be doing the work of keeping them pressed. I would like to know what they are.
Tried to upload the pics but for some reason they aren't getting uploaded. Sorry for the inconvenience.

It' s called NFC chip used for sbeam. From the looks of it, your flip case does not have it. Original samsung flip cover has this chip built in. Chances are you may have a third party flip cover or "knock off" with no NFC support.

The flip cover he has does have the NFC built in, the flip CASE (edit) would not have NFC, because it is intended to be used with the stock battery door cover. As long as he keeps the
stock battery door cover on the phone he hasn't lost any capabilities.
Oh, nevermind I misread his post.

Different battery covers?

Hey, Is it possible to buy colored battery covers for the Nexus S?
A red one will look gooood on the back of my black phone
Thanks
I was looking for one a while ago, but I couldn't find one that had a NFC on it. The Near Field Communicator is attached to the back cover, so you will lose that functionality if you don't get a cover that has a NFC on it.

I honestly don't care about the NFC and I don't think I'll ever use it..
Can you tell me what exactly you searched to find it or if you know someone that sells it?
I wants non glossy black
Hate gloss just a fingerprint magnet and gets all sweaty in hand
I'm surprised no alternative covers
I've looked before bit no luck
Got a thin case but still would like cover

I think the Chinese have been reluctant to make too many due to the loss of NFC if you use a cheap door.
I would buy some spray paint designed for plastic (they sell it at auto part shops. I'd buy the primer too) and sand the cover door and apply a bunch of real thin coats of paint, sanding with real fine sandpaper between each coat, until it was as smooth as I wanted. You could buy flat paint or whatever so it wasn't as glossy too. Though fingerprints wouldn't be as noticeable on a lighter color or one not quite so reflective as black.
Just get one of those Gelaskins or Bodyguardz Carbon Fiber skins <- I just got this and it looks and feels awesome.
is there any Battery cover _without_ NFC?
I haven't seen any for sale aside from the standard black or white ones.
Spray paint and clear coat the stock one.

the standard ones are fine for me, but i want one (or in this case two) without NFC because the radio signal is very poor on the Nexus S. But when you remove the back battery door it has one of the best signals i've ever seen on an smartphone

sure iv'e tested it with NFC off, not big difference to NFC on. Its because the NFC antenna in the Cover is very Big and shields the other frequencys to good.
I'm still searching for an Bat. cover without NFC. Any links or recommendations?
Look it up on eBay! Its your best friend

i tried but i only find them with NFC or the price is so high that it isn't interesting any more
I bought 2 of these from this seller. They arrived quickly and do not contain NFC. I bought them to coat in plastidip (works well in 1-2 coats, 3 destroys it) - source (my six tries).
Search ebay for this description and this seller.

Genuine Samsung Flip Cover Review (Case for Galaxy Note 2)

Pros:
Very cool, elegant design, and great idea. You'll want to show it off to your friends.
It eliminates wobble problem.
You can talk with the case on.
Volume still controllable through flap.
Adds very little thickness and width.
Very good materials.
Back feels more sturdy.
Issues:
Makes notification light useless when it is closed.
Expensive, at least for the moment.
White case may be more prone to staining.
Other:
I wish the flap, although it sits flush, had some kind of magnetic attachment.

A magnetic closure will screw up the pen functionality big time.
Do you think that making a small clean hole where the notification led is, it's feasible?

Try it and see. Your s-pen won't work within range of the magnetic field.. It's only temporary.

i just tried it. you're right. but will it have negative effect in the long run? also i'm afraid the small piece of metal that attaches to the magnet might damage my screen. not a good buy i guess.. got it for around $15.

I was thinking the same thing this morning. I think if you know materials, have precision and sharp drill bits you can do a clean job. but I am too committed to the love of OEM and unmodified factory design, I don't think I have the heart do it. Also, the whole point is to remove any opening to the glass from dust particles. having a hole there just works against that goal.

Unless you cover the hole with transparent film, tape etc...
If you check the reviews here on XDA for the Note 1 version, a couple of us had problems with the flap leather/skin coming off of the support cardboard material after a couple of months. It's really nice and elegant, but the lose skin starts getting in the way. Just something to list in the cons section.

Yes. Potential peeling of outside cover on OEM case is a worry. I agree that this was a major flaw of original case. Ps. I think it was way more than a couple of people complaining about it. Lots of bad reviews on several sites. Hope Samsung have learned. From a distance though ...this case looks to be of better quality.

I dunno, I had one on my S3 both a blue and white. Forget the white, the edge peeled and got really dirty in a day. The same happened to the blue but didn't look so bad, but the edge still peeled and the hinge eventually cracked within a couple of weeks.
Am wondering if the front of the cover is waterproof??

perfect for a day to a week use ugly after a month... side peels which sucks big TIME
Any other case of this style you guys would recommend?
I now have two back covers (with nfc).. thanks to the flip cover I bought today..

some reviews from the samsung site about the s3 flip cover say they deteriorate fairly quickly...can you comment on this with regards to the note2 covers?
I have the orange flip cover and now also the black. I bought the black because of a 50% off coupon that I got from Samsung and also because my orange one got incredibly dirty! I'm going to try and clean it today. Not sure how well that will go. I work in a warehouse so my hands get fairly dirty. There are large "finger prints" on the inside of the case from where my hand holds the cover when it is in the open position.
Will let everyone know how cleaning goes today!

S view flip cover

Hi to all.
Few minute ago I read on Ebay Store that a S VIEW FLIP COVER exists.
But, I have viewed that it works only for Galaxy S4.
Could someone help me for more details?
Thanks on advance for your time
With this link someone could understand better what I really wrote above

Well i guest that will work with newer touch wiz that come with android 4.2.2

It can't work even on 4.2.2 or 4.3, simply because the Note 2 doesn't have magnets or something that makes it recognize the cover. So no S View on the N2, that's fake.

What are you talking about? It has those holes so when people are calling you can see directly into it. Those cut outs are where the name and accept reject text is. No need to flip it open! It has NOTHING to do with magnets inside it. It's just a hole in the cover to see who's calling.
It doesn't like this when you're getting a call.
Man, the Note 2 can't recognize you're using a cover. S4 can because it has an Hall Sensor (magnet) that makes the phone know it’s closed by magnets and it only lights up that part of the display so you can read notifications without removing it, Note 2 doesn't have that sensor, so it's pretty much useless to buy that kind of cover for a Note 2 in my opinion.
You can either search for that flip case with a a transparent front and cut out holes, or buy a normal flip cover, cut out holes where the answer options & name pop up.

It has holes for the area that lights up when someone calls. It doesn't need a magnet. When someone calls you with or without a case on the front that's where the information is displayed. So while it doesn't have a magnet and make use of the features, it doesn't need them for that case. I've seen a ton of people with that kind of case! It's to have a flip case and not have to flip it open every time you want to see who's calling. But i agree, there is no magnet. But this flip cover doesn't need magnets to be useful.
I got myself one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MERCURY-GOO...CASE-FOR-GALAXY-NOTE-2-II-N7100-/321157898786
it'll show who's calling and i just hit my home button to answer. As for the screen I used UCCW to make a notification type thing for texts/calls/mail/battery. I always wanted a flip case but I would like to know who was calling without flipping the case everytime.

Is there a case like the S4 case for the note 2?

Is there a flip case, like the one that you can get for the S4 with the clear plastic panel so you can see the top screen without opening it (I think its called S-View) available for the Note 2 in the UK?
Many thanks.
Go to ebay, type "s-view case note 2" and you get a ton of choices, starting from $4.70
I did try a similar search - honest :silly: , but your search worked better, thank you.
Sorry for the noob question but how exactly do they work?Is there any app to acompany them since the phone doesn't support this functions?

I also wonder
I was wondering about this too and wanted to see if it would do as I would like, the picture attached shows the case on the Note 2 - although I have the leaked stock 4.3 ROM on it, with a plugin for the notification icons on the right of the top panel.
The bottom panel is for accepting or rejecting calls without opening although I could do with out this really, but nothing available without it.
Time will tell if I keep this or not.

wait a sec, you got your note II to use s-view notifications? is this a 3rd party app? the note II doesn't work with the offical s-view cases like the S4 and the Galaxy Mega, because it doesn't have the magnets that activate the phone into s-view mode.
No, its not using s-view at all, it's just showing the lock screen through the clear plastic panels - if the display is showing the launcher desktop then it doesn't looks right at all.
Well there's this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Goospery-Ea...Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&var=&hash=item33855e4834
without the slide to answer phone call. Just go to accessibility and check Home button to answer call. I used UCCW to make a notification for phone/text/gmail to show in the display.
Thought I'd add to the discussion...
I bought 2 different "S-View" cases for my Note 2, and have been using one of them for the last month. The time and notifications at the top of the screen fit perfectly in the clear panel. When someone calls me, the information also fits perfectly into the window... I don't have to open the cover at all.
These are the cases I bought:
http://www.amazon.com/Arbalest-Cover-Samsung-Galaxy-GT-N7100/dp/B00F3TVSQS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383681294&sr=8-1&keywords=note+2+arbalest
http://www.amazon.com/Goospery-Cover-Samsung-Galaxy-Mercury/dp/B00EUSQ4IK/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1383681364&sr=8-9&keywords=note+2+goospery
Build quality on both cases is good, although the cutouts could be a smidgeon "cleaner". The Arbalest is the one I've been using the most. It covers the full sides and back of the phone, and has a sturdy cover that doesn't wiggle around that much. There's also an indentation on the inner cover where the physical home button would contact so that you don't inadvertently turn on the display. Unlike most of the other S-View folio cases, the cover is also designed so as to allow you to use the case as a stand (like a typical tablet cover) that makes media viewing much more convenient.
The Goospery one is similar in build and quality. It's a more minimal design, and covers the long sides of the phone. There is a slight recess on the cover where the physical home button makes contact. Contrary to the Arbalest case, it's meant to allow you to actually press the home button while the cover is closed so that you can answer calls or check the time through the clear panel. The cover wiggles a bit more on this case which I find a little annoying. It's odd because the cover is attached all the way up to its pivot point like the OEM Note II flip cover. Hence, it can't be used as a stand.
I first started using a Casemate Pop!, Seidio Surface, and Seidio Active. All of them had kickstands. The Seidio kickstands sucked, and the Pop! was a little bulky. I switched to the the OEM Protective Cover + and loved it's minimal design... but got 2 tiny micro scratches on my screen. I'm not a fan of screen protectors because I personally feel they look worn after a few months, and they detract from the display itself. I also missed having the convenience of being able to watch something without trying to prop it up on other objects. I liked the idea of the OEM flip cover, but didn't like the fact that there was no additional protection on the phone, as well as the need to always open the cover to do anything. My ideal case would be an OEM Samsung Protective Cover + S-View.

Thanks - I actually remember reading your post last year when I first got my phone. I was going to attempt it myself, but unfortunately never got around to it. The thing that I'm really getting used to having again is a way to position the phone in landscape mode. Although I think Seidio makes a fairly good case, my opinion on their kickstands hasn't changed. However, I did see this new design they made for the Note 3:
http://www.seidioonline.com/samsung-galaxy-note-3-ledger-flip-view-dark-gray-p/csf2ssgt3k-dg.htm
I have to revise my "ideal case" to an OEM Protective Cover + with S-View and a Kickstand (or other method of putting into landscape). I would seriously pay some decent coin for that! No bulk, protection for the screen, a way to see who's calling without opening the cover, and a way to watch media conveniently. Everything's always a compromise, eh?

It wasn't me who came up with the idea. As much as I would like to take credit for it I can't as I am not that creative. In fact, I didn't do it myself. I showed it to a friend and had him do it for me
So far I have only seen the battery replacement cover with an additional window on the bottom in order to answer the phone. I don't particularly like the look of it. I am looking for one that you can answer the phone by the Home button like on the Goosperry. I also hope that it will fit my existing bumper case
So far this is the only one that I found that is close to what I am looking for.
http://koreahallyu.asia/all-products/galaxy-note-2-luxa-lucir-incredible-view-cover/
I say close because it says that it replaces the battery cover (no nfc but I don't really use that anyway) but looking at the pictures it seems more like a case. Also I'm not sure if i wanted to spend this much ($30) on an unknown item. I would appreciate any thoughts on this case, thanks:good:
edit: found this one with a bumper on the same site http://koreahallyu.asia/all-products/galaxy-note-2-french-bumper-ultra-protective-view-cover/. The problem is that it gives the same generic description as the other one (in regards to material and how it doesn't add bulk).how can a bumper be the same as a battery cover? It's also the same price.
Edit2: I found another case on the same site with the same description for five dollars less

That looks like the exact same design as the Goospery one I got from Amazon, sans the "Galaxy Note II" graphics. It's even got the indentation to press the home button. It definitely doesn't look like a battery replacement... you can see a cutout for the power button that seems rather pronounced.
I'm still really liking the Arbalest case. I particularly like that there's no branding on the outside of it whatsoever... I just wish it had the slimmer profile of the OEM Protective Cover +.

How useful is this?

Is the Samsung flip cover safe?

Hey guys, I got my free official Samsung wallet flip cover for adding a card to Samsung Pay. With that being said, is it safe to use? I keep seeing people mention that any case with a magnet will create a dead spot on your screen. It seems that this case has a magnet, is that correct? If so, should I not use this case?
Thanks!
IIRC, magnets only create a temporary dead spot. So you could try the case and see if it works. Given that Samsung manufactured it, it should be safe.
There was/is a third party kick stand case sold on amazon that had/has the magnet dead spot issue.
Yes .Temporarly it makes a spot but you can use .
