For offline browsing? I download the mapnik_us pack and have it stored on the SD according to instructions but andnav doesn't seem to be using them and I have no clue how to force it to do so. It is marked in the options as the default. I'm trying to get some offline apps I can poke around on (I don't need routing) and perhaps give me my GPS location on said maps and andnav would be fine if it would display the damn maps. Perhaps I need to create my own maps for the area? I saw that is possible. Any suggestions or alternatives? Pretty please
There's an application that is able to create custom offline maps for andnav2. See TrekBuddy Atlas Creator.
Andnav2 only supports offline use for map-sources that allow such use. That does unfortunately not include google-maps. Oterwise andnav just calculates which map-tile(s) it needs to display and grabs them from the sdcard if they are there, if not it has to get them from a server. For all openstreetmap-variants it will keep downloaded tiles indefinitely. It's left up to the user to clean out the storage-space if necessary.
Maps are store on the sdcard in /sdcard/andnav2/tiles. Here you find directories for the different map-sources. Some examples are:
cloudmade
cyclemap
mapnik
openpistemap
osmarender
At the next level there are directories for the various zoom-levels (resolutions) numbered from 0 upwards.
The map-creator will create an appropriate tilepack for the chosen area and resolutions from a choice of map-sources. Although it strictly speaking is a breach of the AUP it is actually possible to grab map-tiles from google and store them on the phone in one of the mentioned directories. I grabbed google's topo (terrain) maps for my local area and placed them in the openpistemap directory which otherwise is a type of map that is irrelevant to my area/use, and that works very well for my bike/hiking trips.
I know its in Beta but too many force close crashes for me...
Plus the postcode db is too incomplete. ( and I know its because its costs a lot for the data)

. Since I don't know for certain if any of the us mapnik tiles that i downloaded, it's likely that I'm going to have to create them as you mentioned, which is fine. I just find it odd that nothing was displAyed regardless of zoom level even when I had the program set to use the maptiles. At least this way Ican do what you did since I do a lot of biking as well.

Me too, I do biking and would love to have an off data plan option for on the back roads kind of thing. Tried doing the andnav 2 and made maps with the buddy utility but couldn't figure out how to get things going on the device. Any tips would be welcome.

If you copy a tile from the wikipage of andnav, you've got to make sure you delete the _benelux, _us, _manhattan,... in the mapname starting with "mapnik"
For example if the map is called "mapnik_us" rename it to "mapnik". Everything works fine out here with the Benelux tile (although extra mapping is always welcome)
if you've got more than one tile installed, change the one you don't use at that time back to "mapnik_us" and the on you will use to "mapnik".
hope it helps
I tried AndNav2 and it did not really work for me. My problem was that every time I tried to set a desination it seemed to work but the would always try to route me back to my home address. I might try it again another day when a few more of these bugs are fixed but at the moment using Google Maps is better.
Update for AndNav2 In US?
A brief update since I kept stumbling on this thread.
Andnav2 isn't available via Market in the US and the current group at code.google.com/p/andnav/ isn't posting the .apk yet.
I looked, but couldn't find any APK, so pulled the source and built it. Hopefully it'll save some of you the effort. AndNav2 version 0.8.8.2.1 is attached.
A US server isn't available in this build, but I wanted andnav2 for when I travel and don't have data coverage (in Europe) so hopefully it'll work well for that
Where is your attachment?
I posted the binary here andnav2-download.blogspot.com

I have already done the "Google location services fix (formerly, Twitter client recommendations?)"

AFAICT all that does is fix dependencies - it definitely doesn't activate locations. You are still missing NetworkLocation.apk, among other things. I am trying to figure it out; it might require pushing a more rhobust settings.apk.
I am going to start digging around in the nook source to see if I can make sense of how they castrated settings. I think that might be the best way to attack this problem.

ok thanks! keep this thread updated with your findings.
thanks again!
Chris
A side effect I just found of following the instructions to get the Market working here- http://nookdevs.com/Enable_the_Android_Market
is that Network Location is working.
When I run maps I have the indicator for where I am.
I will be testing how accurate this is tomorrow- I have a long drive to do and will tether to my Droid with gps running.
With luck, the droid will relay location data to the nook over the network.
Pass or fail, I will post the results once I know.
Good to hear, but you're probably getting a position via WiFi and GPS data can't be passed on via tethering AFAIK so you can't get it off the Droid.
I know that the GPS data can't be passed on per se and that I am getting network location data via wifi- 100% agreement.
My hope, and no testing yet to verify, is that if the Droid knows its location by GPS it will pass it along as a Network Location since it is providing Network Services so to speak.
I have no documentation saying this will happen, just pure speculation and wishful thinking.
OK - that is nice guys, but Spanel (and include me as well) have run the location fix and we still get the error: ""please enable my location source in system settings".
I have most everything working and running: rooted, Market, maps installed and working - but for whatever reason, maps does not display my location - just the aforementioned error message when I do.
Note: I also followed http://nookdevs.com/NookColor_Install_missing_google_geolocate_library, completed it with no errors - but still, my wifi - location is not popping up.

Th8is might be a side effect of when performing the initial Android setup portion of the process, the first question asks info regarding location, etc. I unchecked these options (knowing I dont have GPS) and am thinking this may be where it is being "enabled."
Just a thought.

Nork - are you saying that you are, in fact, getting a wifi-location fix on your device?
So does anyone have WiFi location up and running ? In Maps, I get the "please enable location" popup and even with "NookColor Tools" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868366) that shows a ton of hidden settings I don't have location either.
The Autonooter author suggested I install NetworkLocation.apk to fix that, but I still get "Please enable a MyLocation source in system settings, anyone ?

From what I've seen, that is normal. I just skipped that screen. I am getting a wifi location fix though which is very cool.
Yes Autonooter activates WiFi location, not the scripts though for some reason.
I JUST got my wifi to work in maps -- figured it out after a bunch of frustrated digging -- by editing the com.android.settings_preferences.xml and adding the line
<boolean name="location_wifi" value="true" />
(I did it in the text editing option in the Root Explorer App after making the system folder R/W, but if your use your favorite editor [command-line or otherwise] at will)
since that xml file, for me, only had a "location_gps"="false argument."
Granted I had also replaced the Settings.apk with a 2.1 build 2 stock one and pushed a stock NetworkLocation.apk, neither of which, by my tests, would make maps zero in on my wifi-based location. Going to restore the NookSettings app and see if this holds.
EDIT: Yes. editing com.android.settings_preferences.xml seems to do the trick. Mileage varies, perhaps, as they say.
EDIT2: That file WAS in /data/data/com.android.settings/shared_prefs/ but it seems to have disappeared since I pushed back the NC Settings.apk -- though while I had the stock 2.1 settings.apk installed, the xml file was there, and Google Maps did use my wifi to locate my position. Now that I've pushed back Settings.apk, Maps still finds my location via wifi. Freaky, quirky, but if you want to be able to use the wifi-location finder feature, this is how I got mine to work:
1. Installed a stock NetworkLocations.apk from a 2.1 build,
2. Renamed Settings.apk -> Settings.old
3. ADB installed stock 2.1 settings.apk
4. Enabled wifi location, which now has an option to "set my location"
5. tested Maps application, no dice.
5. edited the XML file as above -- /data/data/com.android.settings/shared_prefs/com.android.settings_preferences.xml
6. tested on maps, success!
7. then removed the 2.1 stock Settings.apk.
8. Renamed Settings.old -> Settings.apk.
I'm sure there is a muuuuuuch easier way to do this, but I'm a total noob. Anybody else have any success?
(The stock Android 2.1 Settings.apk crashed too frequently, anyways, and is annoyingly unreadable with the NC skinning).
I think the process I outlined here will do it for ya...
All you need to do is change the location_provider_allowed field in the secure table in settings.db to network.
Sent from my LogicPD Zoom2 using Tapatalk
fortuno01 Can this be done through Android Commander? Where is the settings.db file, ie which folder?
Also can someone post a clean working NetworkLocation.apk file. I see many on the web.
Finally got it working! Its a festivus miracle!
Alright, so after some playing around, I finally got this working. I used steps similar to above on a win 7 PC. Its all based on the /data/data/com.android.settings/shared_prefs/com.android.settings_preferences.xml file. But you wont have one until you install this apk.
Step one. Download and install attached NetworkLocation.apk with ADB.
Step two. Use android commander (Google it, its free) and navigate to the file.
Note when you first run AC, it will ask which os you are using. I say I dont know, mostly because I'm lazy. Its 2.1 of course.
Step three. Pull the .xml file to desktop and open with notepad.
Step four. Add this as the last line in this file. <boolean name="location_wifi" value="true" />
Step five. Save and Close
Step six. Drag and drop into right panel of android commander where original file was. AC will ask you if you want to place on the right panel. Yes, you do.
Step seven. Exit adb.
Step eight. REBOOT. Dont try before a reboot *it wont work*
Step nine. Please thank me if this works for you.
Merry Christmas.
Where do you get the stock 2.1 apk OS files? (I got your attachment). I have the SDK installed are they in there somewhere or can I pull them from the android developers site somewhere? Thanks.

I seem to be getting "Error 14: Cannot boot Astoria platform" on my Lumia 925, even though its supported. Windows 10 and 8.1 SDKs installed on desktop, latest build of W10m, developer settings on and discovery on. I tried unregistering from 8.1 registration too but that didn't help.
I fixed Developer Menu crashed
I just tested Kingdom Rush, it works fine. Some fps drop from time to time, but totally playable.
problem while using project astoria tool
after entering wconnect.exe usb in command prompt i got this error
The procedure entry point EventSetInformation could not be located the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll, what should I do?
I tried to do all these instructions but got an error with "IpOverUsb", which did not manage to solve. In task manager this service is running, but crashes constantly. Does anyone knows, how to solve this issue?
So, tried this on my testing device (Lumia 830), but am getting Error Code 14 which suggests my device isn't supported?
Did anyone else get this, of anyone got it working on a Lumia 830?
APK to W10M Tool
Hi everyone!
I'm Antonio de la Iglesia from Microsoft Insider, a Microsoft fan spanish website. I've released a tool to do everything for you, one install, no command lines, etc. Only you have to drag an drop the apk in the box:
Download link is on: bit dot ly 1MddHUK (I can't post links or images, sorry)
Applications I tested and are working: Angry Birds 2, Plants vs. Zombies 2, Impossible Road, Facebook Messenger (head chat only works inside the app), Facebook, Whatsapp, Fruit Ninja, Dumb Way to Dies 2.
Apps that have not worked: Never Alone (stuck on a black screen), Prince of Persia Shadow and Flame (not start), The Room Two (eternally in the loading screen), Storm Rush (missing textures), Heartstone ( forever on the pub entrance screen ).
And I wanted to talk with yours about Snapchat. Currently it is impossible to use the official due to check with the services google, put the Casper can be installed. I can login and view snaps, but the native Casper camera does not work (is a black image). It is possible to make the camera work going in the settings and switching to the native camera phone however it does not help much. With this option activate the camera opens and I shot the photo but when I confirm, the application simply returns to the home screen without letting me post. If I enable the "Chose document chooser", when trying to choose a photo in the gallery I will have access to Windows applications choice of menu and I can get there in the gallery, camera or drive but it does not help much because that:
The Android has no access to the Windows file system and Windows also does not have access to Android file system . You do not need to activate the Blackbary option for camera work, it will open even without this option . The problem is that when you take the picture it is saved in a Windows directory and then when he tries to send to Casper, HERE IS ERROR . The camera does not have access to android files . The same applies to the gallery. If you enable the " Chose document chooser ", by clicking on the gallery you will be brought to application choice screen. Here you can choose the camera and the phone's own gallery. Again , when you select a photo from gallery an error occurs saying that was not possible use the file. This is again because the gallery can not send the file to Casper . Here is the whole problem.
My girlfriend is pissed me off to make this application work and I can not . I am in contact with Caster developer also to try to fix the problem. if we can bypass this issue of access to the file system , I'm sure it would work. You guys have any idea ? Sorry for my bad English. It is not my first language .
For Developers mode on Windows 10 Mobile crashing
Hey guys. I'm new to software development on Windows Phone but I've been using my Lumia devices for more than a year and a half now. Lately, I've been testing the builds for Windows 10 Mobile. I am currently on build 10166 running on my Lumia 1520. Due to the recent development, I tried to install APK files on it via the leaked Project Astoria porting tool and it worked great until the "For Developers" option started to crash and I am unable to install the APKs anymore since I can no longer pair my device to the sideloading app on my PC.
I've downloaded the Windows Phone 8.1 SDK as they said that I can "unregister" my device from there and it will regain access to the "For Developers" settings on my Windows 10 Mobile. After the installation, I plugged my phone in to my laptop and then I tried to hit Connect from the SDK, but I ran into an error that says "Waiting for Update Pack" wherein it prompts me to install an update. After i click update, an error code 0x80004003 - Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Says something about Phone Tools Update Pack. How can i get through this?

Server error. Error Code=1?
So not matter what method I do or what version of windows my PC is running(I've tried 8.1, and 10) I keep getting the same error "Creating session... Server Error. Error Code=1" and that goes for APK Deployment Application a trying it with the wconnect.exe through CMD.
Anyone got a clue as to how to fix this error, I haven't ran crossed it yet on any of the sites covering this. I'd hate to have update my Lumia 1520 to 10 just to find out my only reasoning for doing so was a bust...
how?
How did you guys do this deactivate developer tools using Windows Phone 8.1 SDK. Can someone post a direct link the download. Every time I search for it, it pulls up Visual Studio. I'm sure that where it is but I've played around with visual studio and I'm not seeing this deactivate developer mode......
Keyboard problem
Hi Everyone!
I tried a lot of android applications in my Lumia 930 (build 10166) - for example: german dictionaries, dumb ways to die 2 game, lumosity, outlook web app... and so on- and everything was just perfect. Hovewer, when I get the windows 10 update 10512 my applications become useless, because I can not use the keyboard in the applications (not come up), so I cant fill in the necessary field, for example to log in to my account. I tried to delete and install apps again, but it doesnt help.
Does anybody has an idea to solve my problem?
Thanks for your help!
AFter upgrade my Lumia 1520 to latest build 10512 then I cannot active keyboard in Android app.

Keyboard problem since 10512
Since my update to 10512 the keyboard doesn't open in sideloaded apks
Anyone with a similar problem?
Sadly, I will need to report that Sideloading APK's on the latest build 512 (At least on the 1520) is causing the windows keyboard to not load. This means you cannot type at all in the app. Will continue working on this and report a solution if found.
I know the Store has shut down since last 2 months and most of the Microsoft services for Windows Phone are already dead or cut off. We all know that we can no longer download and install apps in the Store and now we depend on cracked and/or deployable XAP files and APPX/Bundle files on the Internet. But can we share our "surviving" installed marketplace apps thru one app? Like maybe making an ALTERNATE store for WP...
Well, Microsoft would (maybe) not care if we do this since Windows Phone is dead so why not give it a try? Sharing our installed apps (by extracting it from their Installation Folder and zipping it/recompile it) to others would help a lot, especially for users who don't have time to bother buying a new non-Windows smartphone.
Also can someone make or share a "Tap the tile to lock phone screen" app? I desperately need one because my power button is broken.
I would share my installed software if I would know how to retrieve them.

You can (for XAP files) using this method from this YT video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buWOsHd6jdg
The method works for SD card apps.
For Internal, boot phone into Mass Storage Mode (you need to root your phone using WPI). Then, in your PC, go to MainOS > Data > PROGRAMS. Copy either everything or a specific app (via GUID), and do as what the video also show how.
For APPX or APPXBundle apps, go to WINDOWSAPPS folder whilst in PROGRAMS (internal) or WPSystem\Apps (SD) directory. Then, copy the app files.
For APPX, those without any similar names of the app.
For APPXBundle, those with similar names of the app plus the cpu architectures "arm", and "neutral" (there may be two more of those "neutral" ones, but join them also).
Then create (on your PC) a self-signed certificate, pack each package (for APPXBundle, pack them app but put into a seperate folder so that they wont join in the others), sign them one by one, (for APPXBundle, pack them into a bundle, and sign them (again? idk)), and your done.
To check if they're deployable, i recommend deploying them one by one on an emulator or on a separate device. If you deploy one but fails, the tendency of the app with the same app GUID installed on your phone being uninstalled is high.
I know many people still using Wp 8.1 and still need install App for Wp, but Store closed. Waiting for help ! Can some great devoloper do that ? Sorry my bad English !

use android :good:
Did anyone try to look how far we can get in replicating the original App Store's backend? Might hit a road block sooner or later with signing etc., but I was surprised to see at least the initial communication is HTTP only:
Code:
GET /v9/catalog/storePages?typeId=DynamicHub.Main&os=8.10.15148.0&cc=DE&lang=de-DE&hw=520190980&dm=RM-984_1001&oemId=NOKIA&moId=&cf=99-1&Flight=&SEG0=%3B&SEG1=&SEG2=&SEG3=&SEG4=&SEG5=&optedOut=true HTTP/1.1
Connection: Keep-Alive
Accept: */*
Accept-Encoding: gzip
User-Agent: ZDM/4.0; Windows Mobile 8.1
X-WP-Client-Config-Version: 81001
X-WP-Device-ID: ******
MUID: *******
X-WP-StorePage-Cookie: *******
Host: cdn.marketplaceedgeservice.windowsphone.com
That request then times out after a while since it goes via akamai and probably tries to hit backend servers that no longer exist (504 Gateway Time-out).
Unfortunately I never captured the traffic while the store was still working, so the question is how to figure out what to reply to this.
Sometime around September 2021 I created an app to display animations on the outer display while the phone is open and then completely forgot about it.
I made it because I missed the CL display of the old razr phones and wished my razr 5g had it.
The app is in a very unfinished state, but I thought someone might find it cool. It doesn't really impact battery life much for me and is at least kind of reliable about showing the logo when waking from sleep.
I have only personally tested it on the XT2071-3 with various versions of android 11, although I have received reports that it works on other generations of razr on a variety of firmware.
Update: I have since rewritten the entire app as of the beginning of 2023. The app is probably still a little unstable but I haven't encountered any bugs while testing it.
Demo (OUTDATED):
Note: this is the old version of the app, I will record a new video when I have the time.
In the video, I used the second half of the boot animation (located at /system/product/media/clibootanimation.zip/02_loop_cli.mp4), but I won't post a download for that since it may be copyrighted. You can very easily extract it yourself using a file manager capable of viewing the system partition (no root required).
I may consider adding an "extract boot animation" button to the app sometime in the future.
90% of the functions in the app don't work (everything should work now)
You have to close and reopen the app to refresh it after adding a video (you no longer have to do this)
There's a bug where you have to select the file relative to Internal Storage since I didn't implement the file selector properly. (I implemented it properly this time)
Notifications will pop up on the external display while the animation is running. (they no longer do so)
The animation still won't won't start after the device boots, but it will immediately start after launching the app.
Even if you aren't having issues with the old version I still urge you to update to this one since it fixes more bugs than I could keep track of.
Download: (see attached)
Note: The new app has a different package name, signature, and app name so you may have to manually uninstall the old app.
As promised I will be posting the source code on GitHub when I have the time, but before I do this I want to clean it up a bit and optimize a few things. You are still welcome to steal the idea and do it better.
Update: there was a bug in the new release that caused the app to crash when enabled on Android 12, it has been fixed in 1.1. I was not aware of this since I've kept this phone on Android 11 until now.
Great work. Nice app!

A quick question, is it necessary the device to be rooted to use this app? cos the device is trying to install n then throws an error saying 'app not installed'. Am using a 2071-2 (unlocked at&t version) with stock android 11 rom.

sure, the animations are just 800x600 mp4 files. If they are within a certain range of that resolution, the app will resize the video, but it's a little buggy at the moment.
Finnally got it to work; magnificent, really love it; Big thx man
Nice Boss.. You're correct though... Battery life usage be almost nonexistent when you compare it to other things.

I am unsure if this works on the razr 2022, but I'm curious if it does. As I don't have one of these devices I can't tell you where the boot animation is stored if the location has changed.
Use a file manager such as "FX File Explorer" to access the system partition (doesn't require root) and navigate to "/system/product/media/". If the location hasn't changed you should find "clibootanimation.zip" and it should contain a file called "02_loop_cli.mp4". Just using that file should work. If it's not there, please let me know and I will send you the file.
If you manage to get it to work, please let me know as well.
Thx a lot. It works perfect on the razr 2022. It was as you said. With the standard file manage you cant reach the desired file. You have to download a more sofisticated one from the play store. Me happy. And again thx for this wonderfull app.
I'm just gonna leave this here for everyone!
CLI For Moto RAZR Family - Google Drive

Is that the same type of app that displays smiley pics and say cheese pics on the outer display when using the phone camera flipped open and taking pictures? I did not know my Razr 5G did that until I was taking a group photo and they all started laughing at the pics when I was snapping their photo,
The Animations are very nice,
but Animation doesn t start anytime.
sometimes yes, sometimes no..?
if the programming gets even better, it's very nice. I am using the Razr 5G

Make sure the file is downloaded to the device, and you have to navigate to the specific location of the device using a file explorer, the file selector isn't coded right in the app, as specified by the dev.
