Hoping someone here can help me with an issue I keep having with my phone and no matter what I try, I cannot seem to solve this issue.
Last night, about 1am I went to bed, Phone was at 100% charge. This morning when I woke up, the phone was down to 58%. According to the power in settings, this is what has used the battery overnight.
Mediaserver 84%
Wifi 5%
Cell Standby 3%
Phone Idle 2%
Android OS 2%
Android System 2%
Screen 1%
Onavo Count 1%
I havent got an SD card in the phone and havent for over a week because I thought that might be the problem as others have said on here and I have next to no apps installed also so I cant figure out what is doing this
Im on android 4.1.2 and phone is not rooted. No further updates are available for me yet either over the air or connected to the PC via Sony companion software.
Anyone got any ideas what might be causing this?
Did you leave your earphones plugged in?

Ive not left my earphones in no and yesterday as a last resort I did a factory reset on the phone and Ive put no songs or hardly any apps on the phone and its still doing the same thing. Again, media server over night was responsible for over 50% of battery drain, this is 12 hours after a factory reset.
I give up with this phone now, it seems to spend more time plugged in on charge than being used
verwhri Rail
do you have lots of images on the phone? i used to have a similar problem with my s3. after i start up my phone i will let it sit for a while before i clear all my running applications. sometimes i do it before i hit the bed too. seems to help. not sure about XZ since i have not encountered such problem yet.
Its a completely clean factory reset from yesterday, so there are no images at all taken with the camera or stored, and no music/mp3s stored on the phone and no SD card attached either
just to double check, you are already on 4.2.2 right? I remember quite a number of people on 4.1.2 experience this problem (including me). most reported the problem was gone after updating to 4.2.2. i didnt get to try it myself as I sold my s3 even before 4.2.2 is officially out

No im still on 4.1.2. Thats the latest version available to me over the air or via PC companion (am in the UK) and am not sure I trust myself or if its easy to upgrade to the latest version any other ways
It's quite easy to fix though.
Just go to sound settings, and school down to the bottom. Disable all the checkboxes that are enabled.
That should get rid of that media thing in your battery stats

Wait for the second charge and check the mediaserver again.
If you upload and download videos or photos in whatsapp can cause this.
Download wakelock detector from playstore and post some screenshots.

Thanks for this, ill try it out now.
Well, it was almost back at 100% charge anyway so i installed wakelock detector, and did a reset. Once switched on, i let it time out and left it for two hours.
Just had a look now in the wakelock app and I have something which says:
AudioOut_3 - 2 hours 8 minutes x1 - thats pretty much the entire time my phone has been asleep. So i assume something is stopping my phone from properly sleeping. Plus in those two hours, my phone dropped from 100% down to 88% (Mediaserver responsible for 91% of the drain)
I have all phone sounds and vibrations off for keypresses and notifications etc.
All you can do is repairing your phone with sus or flash your phone with another firmware and try again.

Well, i upgraded to 4.2.2 yesterday, completely fresh install and charged my phone back to 100% again. Overnight, over 8 hours, phone again drops over 30% of the total battery, again, in the battery stats, nearly all due to media server. I got no idea what to do now

Ive not got any games installed on the phone at the minute and on the actual homescreen all i have is the google search bar and the weather app. Nothing else on there apart from the settings shortcut. Ive tried to be minimal in everything to try and track down what the issue is.
There is no music on the phone, no SD card installed and the phone is totally silent, no sounds, vibrations, nothing.
The culprit it seems again though, according to the wakelock app, is something called Audioout_3. Which has kept my phone awake for pretty much the entire night. but ive no idea what this is relating to

I'm having the same issue, like most threads I've searched for; I tried checking for any corrupt mp3s, pictures etc. I did multiple factory resets, Flashed CM10, Flashed Carbon ROM, even Stock ROM was useless. It's really beginning to frustrate me, doesn't anyone have a fix to this? Mediaserver battery drain threads have been going on since June 2012 or even before that!

use system panel and see which processes and apps are using your cpu. its a free app, but the paid version gives you much more options and shows you a list of each app that used your cpu. that's what you need.
btw, system panel is by far the best app for this on the market!

What ROM and Kernel are you on and how long ago did you flash to it (assuming it's a custom ROM)?
Reason I ask is that I had sleep issues with a ROM that was fine but somehow didn't flash well. Reflashing the same ROM over fixed my battery issues. This might not be what's going on with you just any bit of info can help when it comes to chasing down ghost CPU cycles/battery issues.
Also, did you recalibrate you battery yet? It could be an issue of your battery not getting charged to 100% or dying before <1%
Ok cool I just downloaded the free version do you think I should buy the paid version better?

Hi all
I'm new to android and am having some major issues with my Sony New xperia z.
First off stamina mode is simply not working. It did to start but it's now not changing the expected battery life when toggled on and off. That's just the start though.
Battery life had been absolutely terrible. I have been deliberately stopping myself from using the handset just so I can make it through the day.
I have come from an iPhone 4 and am quite a heavy user normally, my battery always lasted well beyond one day. New I know the screen and processor on this are awesome but I'm literally not going to be able to use any apps or anything if this is the true battery life.:crying:
I noticed that android os was taking the majority of my battery for just if today, screen has since taken over since I got in because I've been searching the net for potential answers.
Android services is up there as well. I installed a battery checker to see if my phone is but going into deep sleep for some reason and found that there had been something like 3000 wakelocks since last charge (unplugged this morning). I'm now down to 3% after about 13.5 hours since unplugged.
Screenshot was from before I started writing this post.
Any help please. If this isn't some sort of bug/fixable errorI might have to see about returning this phone!
Is this amount of wake locks normal? How can I tell what's stopping my phone from sleeping? I'm new to android other than my nexus 7 which had always been amazing in terms of battery.
Thanks all
John

I have downloaded gsam - its how I knew there were over 3000 wakelocks but to be honest I've found it all a bit baffling. I'm pretty sure something's happening in the background when it shouldn't be but its like trying to find a needle in a haystack - I'm not sure what processes are what, and what parts of the system should be doing certain things anyway... Does that make sense?
Its dead now, so using my nexus 7 instead. I'll charge tonight, use as normal and monitor it tomorrow. Is there anything I could post from gsam up here that you genius's could help me out with? I bow to your mightier wisdom and plead for help!!! I love my new handset but this is leaving a real sour taste and my excitement and joy of leaving iOS behind me is waning!
Should I use it without stamina mode tomorrow and see if that improved things? Or should I use it as I did today?!
Thanks again everyone for your help.
Maybe you can upload app usage screen and kernel wakelocks.

Previously with stamina mode on it would show standby time of a couple if days. Now, it's showing only 14 hours, no matter whether I switch it on or off. So, seems like a problem with the stamina mode calculation. Anyone experiencing this?

I think it learns from your usage.. As mine now only shows 8 when on 7 hours when off
But I get several warnings of apps preventing stamina.. This could also change the calculation

Hi, the problem is maps app of google, I solved the problem with a factory reset and freezing maps app
Stamina Mode is working properly
*
i had 4day
then i got 1days
after that i got 2.5days
and for last charging i got 17hrs
*
100% charge > 17 hrs
>>> ~ 37% charge > 1day
22% charge > 15 hrs
Stamina Mode learns How you use your phone.
the day before 17hrs i used it alot
after 17hrs i used it alot again till ~70% charge.
then i didn use it for half day So in ~37% power management showed 1 day.
SO There s no problem with battery configuration & NO bug in Stamina Mode.

THIS BUG CAN DO HARM TO YOUR BATTERY! BECAUSE YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHEN THE BATTERY DRAINS!
As we all may encounter the battery bug after upgrading to .423 fw. When one restarts his phone, he has chances that the battery level of the phone rises (e.g., I turned off mine just now at 26% and turned it on showing 51%). This has been confirmed by many users in the forum, so I believe it is a firmware level bug of 4.2.2.
Is there any one willing to pay some time on fixing it? Coz this is a quite crucial bug for us, we dont know when will our phones automatically turn off! Thanks in advance
I believe its not a caliboration thing coz we also upgrade or wipe our devices before, and no such thing happened. I think its a firmware or kernel level bug. Does anyone who flashes a custom kernel also encounter the same problem?
It seems that Spanish FW is free from this bug.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43261281
plz report your rom or base FW in the reply. Thanks.
[NEW EDIT]
It seems that I fix the bug. The battery jumps when the phone restarts, so I think there is something during boot which causes the issue. I delete the XZDualRecovery, and test the phone several times, and its fine!
Deleting XZDualRecovery might be a temporary fix, so you can choose what to do
[NEW EDIT 2]
someone reports that they dont encounter the bug and believes that its the calibration thing. i declare again that i DID the calibration and the issue was still there. for me, at least, deleting XZDualRecovery fixes the bug. plz report more details in the reply, like fw, root or not, recoveries. Thank you
I don't think there is a bug here.
Never happened to me,cause i did full wipe while flashing.
Maybe it happens only for users that didn't wiped everything.

I experiencing the same issue. 2% to 55% after reboot. wow... 4.2.2 doesn't bring anything for me to consider to keep it. so back to 4.1.2 (.4.3.4)
But one thing for sure (never discharge a lithium ion / polymer battery from full to 0 they don't like it) you could do that with nickel cadmium/ metal hydride batteries ant they really thank for that if you keep doing that you just kill your battery before its due time.
this ain't normal right guys? since I rooted and play with the system, android os is always on the top of consuming the battery instead the display. ;(

I've done some digging around and found out that the Kernel has some long wake locks.
Namely :
bam_dmux_wakelock
msm_serial_hs_dma
msm_serial_hs_rx
I've never had these wakelocks before and they are popping up out of nowhere. My phone's battery was great when I first got the phone, but now its not as good anymore due to the phone not deep sleeping as much.

I'm getting this also.
I've done some digging around and found out that the Kernel has some long wake locks.
Namely :
bam_dmux_wakelock
msm_serial_hs_dma
msm_serial_hs_rx

For those that are curious, install betterbatterystats from the playstore and you can see what is causing your phone to not go to deepsleep.
Same here, I already did a full wipe still happening, and I feel its affecting my battery. Going to give this a couple of days doing some different tests to see if I can nail out the issue.

Still don't know what causes it. The problem started right around when I configured lookout, so I uninstalled. I also disabled locations on any possible app but still no go.
Then got pissed, reinstalled lookout, enable location and stuff, pretty much everything stock, now the problem went away. No more android os on top, battery life is back. Don't know what to think of it, I'd like to know what exactly caused it.

Same problem here too, after removing some apps android os is always right under screen time for me.

A factory reset didn't fix it?

having the same issue....
Didn't plug phone in over night (was at 100% when I went to sleep), woke up with it at 70%. That's a HUGE drain from Android OS.
Weird thing. I've played with the wifi settings, switched from dhcp to static ip and it disabled the connection due to slow conn mesage that appeared, although I was right next to the router. Anyways, I reverted back to automatic dhcp then just a thought to go back to processes and this is what I've found: android os for over 15 hours although i plugged the phone from charger about 5 hours ago...

Try removing the Samsung WatchOn app and disabling/deleting/freeze the system apk for it. I believe it's called "peel.apk"
It randomly goes crazy for me too. I just disabled the watch on app and the browser bar. Hopefully this helps as it constantly runs eating memory when I don't even use it
Android OS battery drain!
Hey Y'all,
So I've been having some really bad battery drain issues involving Android OS on my new Note 3. I've been looking around for days trying to find the culprit and stumbled upon this:
(SORRY, it's not letting me post the link I don't have enough posts so I'll change HTTP for hteeteep, mods I apologize but I can't easily summarize the processes and explanations offered on this page.)
hteeteep://gs3.wonderhowto.com/how-to/reduce-battery-drain-your-samsung-galaxy-s3-by-fixing-android-system-usage-0142361/
It has to do with gsiff_daemon a non-utilized but highly active GPS sensor daemon. I followed the instructions posted there and renamed the file. After that Android OS went back to normal % of CPU usage. When you look at CPU usage under developer option you can see that gsiff_daemon is constantly using resources. Since I disabled it my battery life has improved dramatically and I have yet to notice any "side effects". The phone works perfectly and all other apps are working properly. I think between this fix and staying away from "Enable location over Wi-Fi " should help most people with battery drain issues. I hope this helps!
I noticed the same issue since Sunday. Android OS is always under screen. I'm rooted and have freezed Knox related items in TiBU.

My phone is unrooted, and I'm pretty sure that these stats are messed up, is it that GPS part that's running all the time probably?

but my phone isn't rooted and I'm getting this problem. I have the watch on remote enabled in the notification menu. And I changed the WiFi power save typing in the code. What else can I do?
