I tried searching but didn't come across anything for the One.
Anyone know of a way to disable the "autocorrect" within Messaging of the ACSII smilies to the emoticons?

Not what he was asking. To OP, I haven't. I don't think you can as it's a feature present on stock Android as well.
Thanks for the input guys. I'll keep my eyes peeled in case someone comes up with a mod for it.

I am on HTC Vivid. I tried updating to ICS to only realize that it failed. I see the new keyboard for ICS the Google Voice Typing. Does anyone know where that is installed on the device of ICS so i can try to pull it off and use it on my Vivid. would be excellent.
Thank you

Also, realize you want the google keyboard but swype also offers a beta that has a voice option. Just google swype beta and it will pop up.
Swype is a decent app but I ended up going back to the stock keyboard as it is more functional..some prefer swype I guess..

I have bigger fingers so it makes it hard for me to tap away at the keyboard. I am much faster swyping.
I have big hands also and the dang space bar is the most frustrating thing on the keyboard...always hitting the period instead of space bar...it needs to be wider..

I agree. The keyboard on the Inspire was perfect...and it was .2 inches smaller of a screen and included a directional arrows.
And to answer the original question most of what the OP is asking about I would think would be in HTC_IME.apk
I installed XDA App.
It gets closed on pressing the back button. Also, when I reply to any thread, it gets crashed.
I am currently on CM9 nightly build ROM. ICS 4.0.4

Are you tapping it, or holding it? You might have a setting checked for "Hold back to quit". That's all I can think of.

No, just clicking on the back button once.
Same thing still happens to me. Say if I go into a thread, and then want to go back to where I started, it seems like it will kill the application if it's more than two back. And no, it's not the "long press back kills app" function. Maybe there's a better easy to navigate than pushing back that I haven't discovered.
It happens to me too but in many different apps. It seems like it's am android thing. Even then I go to messaging, it'll open in my last message and then I hit back to view all messages and it closes.

I was just playing around with my Nexus 7 and I came across a neat and convenient trick to dispose of a app from the app drawer that you may have mistakenly selected and you only get three options uninstall, app info or simply drop the app on the home screen of your Nexus device. Well, there's a fourth option! Simply long press a app from your home screen or app drawer. Then, fling your finger that's holding down the app down up and release! That's it! From the home screen you don't have to take a app all of the way up to the white x remove then red release delete. From the bottom or where ever that app is on your screen you want to remove or replace, just press and hold the app you want to remove, fling your finger in motion down then up release and watch it fly away off of your screen! I think this only works with Jelly Bean, but this my friend is very convenient!

I can add another cool trick: slide up from the bottom of the screen where the 3 buttons are to bring up the Google search. Neat.
Another cool trick in Jelly Bean. Settings > About Tablet/Phone > Android Version (tap repeatedly for surprise)

It shows a lockscreen-style circle for that. Kinda unnecessary, but cool. A quick swipe up from the home button works just as well.

There's an easter egg in the settings app. Go into "about tablet". Tap the version number many times. After that, press and hold the Jelly Bean.

That is actually launching Google Now. If you do not have search history turned on for your google account, you will only see a google search.
If you have history, it will show more information cards.
I'm not quite sure if you're serious or you're really just now discovering the features marketed in the presentations.

Not everyone watched the presentations. No reason to be unnecessarily mean. I thanked him since I didn't know about the trick at all and these types of threads are awesome.
couldnt do it for the life of me and figured it must be a N7 thing only at the moment. But then I re-read the directions on how to do it... derp:silly:
Thanks guys for your help hints!

slide two fingers up or down instead. Won't work on all notifications of course

If you long press either the back button or the multi-window button (I forget the technical name of it) and swipe up it will bring up google now as if you were holding down the home button.

Anyone else noticed that if you hold two fingers on any screen on the Gear you get a list of recently opened apps?
Much quicker to navigate this way sometimes.
You can also close the apps by swiping each one to the left.
Awesome tip. I didn't know that. Thanks.

Hmm ... Too bad that we can't clear the open apps.
I think we will see a lot of changes from Samsung with the gear. They rushed it to market, imho, without it being very mature. But then every new device has this issue.
I remember when people were complaining that the amount of available apps for Android paled in comparison to the iSuck devices.

Doesn't this tip appear on menu that came with the box?

Is there anyway to stop the screen on Notification? I am rooted and I will happily delete a file or modify code if someone knows the answer.

What do you mean by screen on notification?
Sorry what I mean is when the screen turns on when you get a text message. I do not want the screen to turn on when I get a message.

Open messages. tap menu, settings, and then more. About midways You will see an option to preview message. Make sure that is not checked.
No that just prevents me from seeing who texted. I need to disable the screen from turning on

I did some surfing and found that the screen coming on is an AT&T variant exclusive and cannot be disabled. Sprint's version as well as Verizons does not come on. The preview option still lets it come on, just does not tell you what the message says. So you will just have to live with it unless you want to sell yours and get a Sprint version.
While that's not happening lol. Maybe I can find the build prop line and edit it. Thanks though. If anyone else has figured this out please let me know.

That does not control if the screen wakes up or not when you get a text. That just controls if it shows on the status bar and yes that is stock even for AT&T. His issue is the phone wakes on text and he does not want that. At least not so much that the screen lights up. That feature is an AT&T feature and cannot be disabled with an AT&T ROM.
It seems the attachment in the pic has the option for turning the screen on setting off. I like the stock tom and do not want to change it. Is there a way to just side load the mms.apk from his rom?

If you want to install and use safe strap then you can load and use the xnote ROM. otherwise due to the bootloader being locked there is no side loading on this version of the Note 3.

The post above yours by solarenemy (quoted below) seems to imply that sideloading mms.apk from another rom wouldn't even solve this problem (I don't know whether or nor mms.apk could be sideloaded - I think it could be, via the usual rigamarole for changing system apps):

This sounds like the sort of thing that should be possible using xposed framework... Though I don't know if any modules exist yet which do it.
Flashing ROMs would require safestrap, and could surely get what you want even within the limitations of the locked bootloader - but this is, I think, more dramatic than it needs to be to get what you want.
Your right. There was an option in Wanam. I would have never have thought to use that. Thank you so much.

I had the same issue with Note 2 and now with Note 3.
Fortunately I use Google Hangouts to handle my SMS/MMS and the issue does not occur with Hangouts app. I know its not a solution but I could not find a proper way to disable this with the default messaging app.
On a side note, I still have issue with Calender reminder pop-up which turns the screen on and there is no way to disable it. I have 100s of calendar entries synced through my Google Calender which has one of the default reminder set as pop-up on web interface which triggers the full screen pop-up on phone as well waking the screen.
Solved
In either case. There was an option in Wanam which gave me the feature in the mms settings.
