ROMS are not Provider specific, so if you own a Z then any Z FW will work.

Just asking here, why does s4 have different forums for different carriers ?

Because S4 has different SoC for every carrier.

I flashed c6603 firmware, since that model is the lte model.. And the firmware number is 10.3.A.0.423.. That's the 4.2.2 firmware.. And its significantly better that what the c6606 comes with... Whew.. That's a lot of numbers.. Heh..

Yes even with the locked bootloader. There are links at the top of that thread I linked that link to the necessary tools needed to do so. You just need to root, install custom recovery, and flash the firmware with the flash tool and flash accompanying ROM in recovery..
As long as the ROM you're trying to flash is based on and uses the stock kernel, it will work with a locked bootloader.

i feel you man, these phones aren't cheap... but, from what i've seen in the various threads around here, people say to use external memory to flash stuff.. but, that could be outdated information...
everything that says that is concerning older versions of recovery... so you could try it from internal memory... but to be on the safe side, i would get an sd card... luckily for me, i had a little 2gb card lying around, so maybe you can bum one off of someone so you don't have to go out and buy one right away.
fyi, even though you probably know this already... i would recommend not buying sd cards from a retail store... they're significantly cheaper online...

My dad purchased a new Galaxy S III mini online. It arrived with a European charger and in a foreign language. Which one I don't know. Anyway, he managed to get it switched over to English but apparently it will only connect to 2G. I had him check under networks and he says GSM is the only option.
It's this a firmware issue I could correct?
Getting info from him has been like pulling eye teeth and he is well over 1500 miles away and only slightly less in years.

I'm talking about the baseband update, not the actual 4.2.2 OS update. I've updated to 4.2.2 but downgraded the baseband, which has nothing to do with the media scanner bug.
I'm wondering what specific improvements/changes were made in the new baseband.
Do I have to be rooted to flash an old radio?

The network could quite easily lock out your phone at any time anyway, as each handset identifies itself on LTE, so they only have to put a block on N4 ID strings, if they wanted to and use the non-approved card...

I have tested on my zl, but sure that it will work on z also.
hey everyone, I found a way to bypass the lock screen and remove the password/ pin from the settings.
well, this i got to know accidently when i was trying to run a code on the phone.
hile i was searching on a sonymobile website, there came a code *#*#73556673#*#* to run the retail demo, after running the demo, my locked phone removed the pin and shown swipe unlock screen.
then i again locked it with password and then run the code from the locked screen through emergency calling number. after that i pressed the home button 2 times and my locked screen changed from password to swipe screen unlock.
NOTE that after pressing this code retail demo starts, and to stop that demo you have to run the code again....... if you want more help, then ask......
so this is easy way to unlock the Xperia zl, it must also work on Xperia z, if you have Z, then please share your views.
I think it is the best way to unlock the phone because it removes the password from settings. old trick was that to access the service menu through emergency number.........
my aim towards posting this trick was to show and tell SONY that they should look upon the security issues and improve the security for the upcoming updated of 4.2..........

Well the xperia z is actually the C6603 and the non lte version is C6602. Anyway. Wifi calling it could be that this is a t mobile software related thing or u might be able to download it from the app store. Lte should work but I can't fully guarantee it. But isn't the Xperia Z u buy in a sony store the non branded C6603 even in the USA so the C6606 is the t mobile branded version and he wanted to know if when buying it directly from sony will work with everything. And it has some of the lte bands but not all. It could work on lte but also couldn't or only works half of the time since some bands are different on the xperia z in the sony store. It's not "pissy" to point out misinformation. This is not a social hangout. It's a development site. If you don't know the answer to something then don't post.
The whole first page of this thread is filled with you posting about things you don't know about and me correcting you (apart from the useful post by G1_enthusiast). That is not being helpful. It just wastes people's time.

I know the phone is LTE for tmobile it says so on the site. I just wanted to make sure that it was gonna have tmobile wifi calling, and my account features (basically everything that is on a phone when you buy it from tmobile directly) on the phone. As i understand it those features are in the tmobile operating system that they program directly into the phone and you cant just download from the app store. I could be wrong but i believe that is the case.

Probably a silly question to those familiar with the Z but is the 6603 the same as the 6606 (apart from all the tmobile crap loaded on it and the logo on the back)?
I'm already on tmobile with an xperia p and I'm looking at buying a Z, I can get a factory unlocked 6603 on amazon or I can buy a 6606 on the sony site.
Would I have access to tmobile LTE with the 6603?
Thanks in advance.
If you do not get the C6606 you will not have WiFi calling. That is a software specific feature for T-Mobile.
Even installing the .67 C6603 firmware/software on my C6606 removed WiFi calling as an option.
As for LTE I am uncertain. Spec wise it looks like you are covered. But I did not flash the baseband when I flashed my phone. So the modem is still from the C6606 and LTE is working. The only thing is that it shows 4G in the status bar rather than LTE.

Thanks for the info, leaning towards the 6606 now. Out of interest what was your reason for going to the 6603 firmware?

I wanted to move to 4.2.2. There are some performance/lag issues with 4.1.x on the XZ. Also wanted to get on an international generic firmware so I would get updates quicker from Sony.
Plus I just like to tinker.

Coming from HTC Desire HD, I was thrilled when I laid my hands on the Sony Xperia Z. But when I played around and wanted to tinker, I was utterly disappointed that my Xperia bootlaoder has a permanently locked bootloader. To my knowledge and spending hours on the net trying to figure out that there are no free or paid ways to get it unlocked I feel really disappointed that this powerful beast cannot be unlocked to run custom roms.
Thinking of selling my Xperia Z but it is such and elegant device. I wonder whether any developers are working on a solution for this or weather theres any prospect of finding a solution.

What on earth are you on about, the Sony XZ is one of the ONLY phones you can get permanently UNLOCKED, you simply go to the Sony site and you sign away your warranty and bam in return you get a bootloader that is permanently unlocked that you "officially" cannot re lock.
I think OP means carrier branded phones that come with an unlockable bootloader. Even Sony can't unlock such devices.

Some phones (usually carrier subsidised handsets) have non unlockable bootloaders.
The OP is asking if anyone is working on a way to bypass that restriction.

It was bought in Sri Lanka..Made in China C6603
It's simple to understand, if your Phone comes from a carrier then there's a 99% chance the bootloader can't be unlocked. I've SIM unlocked mine but the bootloader is a no go.

That's more the exception, rather than the rule. So backup TA partition, unlock bootloader, and start flashing Happy days

I know that Orange and T-Mobile brands their phones. O2 and Vodafone less likely. Not sure about Three (3).

T-Mobile UK sent me an unbranded handset. They usually supply branded phones, but not this time.

I don't have a z but I remember my xperia arc had same bootloader problem. To fix it you paid for a program (setool) or something...it was like a test point and you had to plug it into computer while holding tweezers to the SIM slot. Maybe someone can get that to work with the z?

The only problem with XZ is that its sealed to ensure its water resistant and theres no way you can get access to tinker with internals
My question to developer community is...Is it a no go forever or will someone at some point invest their precious time and energy on developing an unlock solution or should i get rid of this permanently locked XZ? Coming from HTC, I have little or less experience with Sony. Has it been an issue before eg Xperia series and some where down the line, developers at XDA found a solution? If so i want to wait. XZ is damn good phone and i really love it!!
There are some workaround for it to unlock at the Sony Ericsson Xperia x10 forum, and there were some discussion in the qna thread about this. Better u check it out.
