[Q] Has 4.2.2. broken Kindle & Google Movies? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'd appreciate it if anyone who's using a UK HTC One and has updated to 4.2.2 could check and see whether the apps mentioned in the title are working for them.
For me - since the update - Kindle launches then immediately closes.
As for Google Movies - I consistently get the error [-2147483648] - even with a downloaded movie.
(I should point out that trailers work perfectly well and that the above apps work fine on my GS3 and N7).
I have relocked and unrooted the phone - but I don't think that's the problem - as HTC Watch now works as it should - i.e. it would not work when rooted but now works perfectly.
Apologies if the mods feel this should be in the general 4.2.2 thread - but I am asking a specific question relating to applications as opposed to a specific question regarding the update

have tried the Kindle app on ARHD 12.1 which is android 4.2.2 and it works fine, load and read books no problems...though I presume you probably meant anyone on 4.2.2 via the OTA
I'm root, s-off as well FYI

Kindle app working fine here, totally stock unbranded phone, OTA update.

Kindle app works fine on all 4.2.2 ROMs I've tried, however keep reading onward. I'm guessing the problem is you've got "Force GPU rendering" enabled globally in developer settings. I've noticed the Kindle app doesn't like this setting sometimes and it causes it to close immediately after launching. What I've done is disable force GPU rendering globally and I just enable it on an app by app basis (such as the XDA app).

Thanks for the replies guys!
Unfortunately - as regards Kindle - GPU rendering is not enabled here - so....?
Further, upon reflection, I know that Google movies worked on 4.2.1 - and also on 4.2.2 when running ARHD.
Both app errors seem to have occurred after I relocked, unrooted and restored my original 4.2.1 nandroid backup - along with original recovery.
As soon as I did that I received the small OTA update - then the larger 4.2.2 update.
The only thing I can think of is that as I'm now back to running O2 firmware is that perhaps the problem lies there?
I've just factory reset to no avail and have sent error reports to Google quoting the received error number.
Finally, I've noted that there's quite a few reviews regarding the last Google Movies update where users are saying that they can't play their purchased movies - so it could also be a problem with Google - or O2 and Google - or....

Hmm, interesting, I thought for sure it was GPU rending since I had the same problem. Sorry I'm out of suggestions. Well, I do have a long shot suggestion: you might try clearing data for these apps (go to settings>apps, select the app and select "clear data"). Worth a shot anyway.

Yup - tried that (repeatedly!) - and of course the full reset will have done the same thing - but no joy.
Very strange - I may try unlocking the bootloader and installing ARHD again - if that solves the problem then it would definitely confirm that there's a problem with the O2 firmware.
Thanks for your suggestions.

I initially had a problem with my kindle app after the update but a clear data fixed it.

This is indeed the case and it is a known issue (it's dead for me). The reason I know this is that on the Kindle app itself, the latest update says "fixed launch issues for 4.2.2" however it clearly hasn't fixed all
I've reinstalled, cleared data etc...
Waiting to read my books

Fixed! (Google Movies at least).
Following a lengthy conversation with Google customer services I was advised to login and logout of Google Hangouts repeatedly.
"Sign in and out of Google Hangouts repeatedly to restore connection to our servers:"
I did this (without, I admit, much thought of success)
Voila!
Google movies now playing perfectly

[Q] Cannot update multiple installed apps, is it the new market?

Anyone else noticing that since getting the new market, multiple apps on the Nook Color won't update? They just show open, and I presume would not let you install them at all?
The new Windows Phone 7 clone market seems to show apps even if you can't install them, so sounds like that's what's going on but can't figure out why.
Waze, Facebook, Wifi Analyzer.. I think I saw another one too.
Solution is found, although still a tad quirky. You must have the new market and follow this procedure:
skwalas said:
Ah hah! You are correct. Clearing market data at 161 caused me to lose my apps again. So it seems the full process is as follows: (and note I've never force closed the app, not sure why that should be necessary.
1) set dpi to 160 in build.prop
2) reboot
3) clear market app data (force close first may help?)
4) restart market, accept terms, let it rebuild data at 160 dpi
5) profit

And another procedure, similar, with a few extra steps.

If you update your CM7 or otherwise go back to 161 DPI, the market will eventually stop letting you update again. You can redo the procedure above to fix it. And if you you find your Apps list is empty you can try using AppBrain, it will list updates and you can update them one at a time. Not sure about installing new apps that otherwise would be "incompatible" this way, however.
Thanks to everyone that figured this stuff out, the two posts above are only examples which seem to work, there are other folks who started the ball rolling towards a solution.
New market updates multiple apps for me.
Only problem is that sometimes even if some app is already updated, it still shows it at updating list.
i constantly have to clear data for the new market to work properly. Have you tried that? I know after I clear data I get a notification that updates are available.

By that do you mean clear the notification list? I wouldn't want anyone to read that and go ahead and wipe their data.

Oh, sure, it's updating some apps.. Just some are showing up without the ability to update.
Like I know at least a few apps have updated and they don't show up as needing updates. Or look at Appbrain, you can always see app updates there regardless of the market.
Seems like it's just filtering more apps than it used to. I'm about to remove the new market, it sucks anyway.
Silly question, but how do you guy get the new Market?

Installed automatically on my NC.. Lucky me. There are also apk's floating around.
I'm having a similar problem since updating to nightly 142. Certain icons are no longer visible in Launcher, Advanced Uninstaller, or Titanium Backup. When I visit the Market I'm not given the download box in the header or an update option. Almost as if the app is incompatible with the device. I tried the Applications>manage apps> market> clear cache; clear data procedure with no different result. I did get the message when returning to Market, so I guess I cleared something. The effected apps ( that I'm concerned about ) are Facebook and, of course, Angry Birds. Couple others as well. Thanks for any suggestions

Yes, I can see some Vendor (Vending?).apk floating around the net but no clue which version they are.

Didn't help the issue at hand here for me either, unfortunately..
Sorry you're having the same issues. I also posted to the cyanogen forums and am still waiting for another reply to the post. That's where the Titanium Backup suggestion came from. Here's hoping for another suggestion here.
It doesn't seem like the market notifies you if an app needs a manual update due to changing permissions anymore. Also I get a Appstore and market both saying I need to update Amazon mp3 and after I update one the other app store will still say it's not updated so you have to update again in order to clear the two out

I am having the same issue as the OP. Agenda Widget Plus and Facebook disappeared from my "MyApps" list but can be found by searching. I have the new market and going into settings to clear data and cache for market did not help. Had been working without issue previously. I am running n146.

I disabled MarketUpdater.apk last night and uninstalled Market updates and I STILL am having problems with SOME apps.
Oddly, I can see Waze again, but I still cannot 'see' the Plus version of Android Agenda Widget and a few others. I CAN see the free version of Android Agenda Widget, go figure. For some reason I can usually see apps in AppBrain that need updating, but those apps have also disappeared from AppBrain, so I'm not sure what I'm missing currently.
Damn you Google, what are you doing?
Same situation for me. Went to a backup of an earlier nightly that still had the old market and even there Agenda Widget Plus was missing. Also checked the android market web site and it shows Agenda Widget as incompatible with NC. How does the market determine whether an app is compatible with a device? I contacted the Agenda Widget developer and he said he had not changed anything.

I'd kinda like to know that as well. When I originally downloaded the crappy Facebook app I had no problem. But when I go to the market on the website now it says it is not compatible even though it works fine. I suspect now that the market is "device aware" any of my installed apps that get updates will not show if the app is no longer considered compatible so I will be stuck with the older version.

My guess is that Facebook can use the GPS, or Microphone, Camera... some hardware we don't have.
This is new behavior, at least changed behavior, and it's very annoying.
I've read that "device aware" suggestion in a few places, and decided to try the build.prop edit that I've read about elsewhere. Changed the device name to Samsung S and manufacturer to samsung. It didn't make a difference. I also can't understand why Angry Birds and Checkers could be device specific. The Market definitely knows I've got Nook because it is grayed out in the drop down box. I hope brighter minds than mine can come up with a work around.

[Q] HP running CM7 app issues

SOLVED (kinda)
I have a bit of a rare issue here, thanks for taking the time to read.
Recently my HP Touchpad running CM7 will not download additional content for apps. It WILL INSTALL APPS / UPDATES (most issues found similar won't install anything, that is not my issue). To be more specific Madden 12 & Dead Space (both purchased). They install fine. They load. It says there is an additional download required (300 MBs or so) and they tell you download failed. There are no issues with my internet connection (already tried at work and home).
I have tried rebooting, airplane mode on & off. I have loaded the ROM manager and reset permissions. Anything I'm missing here?
Thanks in advance!
P.S. I posted this here because it does not meet the requirements to post in the development forum
you need to change your build.prop file to another device, like the GT-i9100

It's a known issue with all EA apps, and only EA apps, on the touchpad. The only solution I know is to install the game and data on another Android device like a phone and then copy the data over. Once you do that the first time it should download updates normally after that when there are updates.
Most hd games have a device check and a device specific or hardware specific versions. I think its a matter of the wrong version of the app. Usually the snapdragon or andreno gpu versions work. Some games just really don't want to run.

UPDATE: I got fed up, rooted my droid incredible and copied the data. Works fine... I really wanted a solution so I don't have to do that in the future, oh well! Thanks for the help
I experienced the same issue with Shadowgun recently. I contacted the company and was told that their servers occasionally have issues with the game data downloads. (Madffinger games). I attempted the download the following day (with no build prop changes) and was able to d/l the files with no issues. If there is going to be an issue with build properties, it will show up when you try to download the game. This was the issue with Mad Finger but there might be other issues involved with your downloads. Just sayin.....

Be wary of "forcing" OTA updates using Framework Services trick, breaks stuff

Be wary of "forcing" OTA updates using Framework Services trick, breaks stuff
I've seen this posted before in many of the "4.1.2" threads, but the info is likely to get buried in there, and since I have personally experienced this myself with my GNex, I figured I'd post this in a new thread.
The method of force stopping/clearing the data of Framework Services in the All Apps list to force any OTA to download will cause you a lot of headaches after the update. There are a couple of issues that I could see.
Firstly, ANY app (not just Google apps) that uses push notifications for anything WILL break. The only way to fix them is to either force stop/clear data from ALL of those apps (meaning you might potentially lose important app data as this basically resets the app back to when you first downloaded it), and set all of them back up again, OR to do a Factory Reset of the entire device after your device is updated.
Secondly, you will NOT be able to download apps from the Play Store weblink and "push" them to your device. The Play Store will NOT see your device anymore as it won't be in your devices list. There might be a way to fix this, but I haven't found it, aside from again, doing a Factory Reset and setting up your device from scratch. Even if I logged out/deleted my Google account, and re-logged in/re-added, this did not fix the problem.
Thirdly, Google Music/Play Store purchases of Books/Movies/Magazine/Music seem to be broken at times. Whatever the authorization process Google uses, you break it when you clear Framework Services. This happened to me once, and might have only been a one-time deal, but please be wary of this.
Now, like I've said, I've run into these issues on my Galaxy Nexus while forcing OTAs. The only way I could proceed with my newly updated device without constant Google Services/Play Store/Notification issues was to completely reset my phone and start from scratch. Now I know some people like to do this between major updates anyway, to start the device fresh, so this wouldn't apply to you anyway since you would update and then immediately Factory Reset, but if you're just planning on updating and keeping your device configured the way it is now, you will run into these issues (and potentially others that we don't know about yet).
A better idea to me would be to either wait for the OTA to be pushed automatically, or to save yourself time, flash to stock using the new factory images. Would save you a lot of time by doing that, rather than figuring out what apps broke and what you need to fix, and how to fix them.
Please be wary of this, and know the consequences if you do attempt it.
I can confirm that messing with the Framework to force the OTA does muck up purchases and update of apps through Google Play.
So be advised. You'll most likely have to delete your Google account off the device and clear Google App cache, restart, the reenter you Google account info to get Google Play back to normal.

Failed OTA leading to a minor disaster?
Damn and blast! I read this seconds after I did this little trick. I've not yet run the 2nd OTA... might I escape the consequences of my trusting foolishness?
I did it because the scheduled OTA failed and was aborted (said CWM Recovery) but I failed to note the exact error message. Could this have been caused by it being rooted, as little else has been done to screw the Nexus around?
Where is the update stored before it is processed? Not on 'SDcard'. Is it a full download or a stub for a later big download?

I massive forced this method to get 4.1.2 on my Nexus 7. I stopped this procces and deleted data again and again for 3 days until the update appeared.
Concretly, I had to do this trick 6 times in a row just before I got the update option.
And my device runs flawlessly, I can install from web gplay to the device, all my apps using push services hadn't a single problem, etc.
Before being that catastrophic, you'd get sure if this affects Nexus 7 or was a problem in Gnexus only..
I did this "trick" about 4 times to force the update. I did not stop the process, only cleared data.
My device seems to be running normally. I get gmail, can access the play store, and can remotely install apps from the web interface. I'll keep an eye on it though to see if I get any side effects.
seems to be only a issue with the nexus phone since no 1 has reported having this problem with the nexus 7.

Just for future reference.. To remove your Google account from the Tablet
Settings.. Tap on the Google account under accounts / Tap on the section with your email and little sync icon / Tap the menu button / remove account.
You are incorrect here in number of points. I've done this many times and while yes, push notifications stop working for a while in some apps, they start working again soon after. What happens is that you end up removing Google connection data from your phone, this is why the device becomes lost for Google Play, why push notifications fail and so on.
The reason why many don't have any clue that this happens is that this restores itself automatically. Why? Because it still has Google Account. YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESET YOUR PHONE. If you experience these problems, then just wait. Longest I had to wait for it to reset was about a day, but it generally happens much quicker.
You can speed this process up usually by visiting Play Store on your phone and just in case starting every app you have that has push notifications registered for once.
Your phone will do all the work.
Haven't had any issues since I did the force update. All apps still push notifications and at the play store website my n7 is still there with all my apps.

[APP] Google Play 3.10.10

For those who can't wait for Google to roll it out automatically, here's the new Play Store. The site where I got this says the changes are simply bug fixes but I did notice it looks a little different, like the font seems to match the new 4.2 roboto font. Try it out and correct me if I'm wrong.
How to install:
Using root explorer, copy the file to /system/app after deleting the original Play Store app. Fix permissions then reboot. After rebooting, you might also want to clear the Play Store app data before using it for the first time. Initial impression is that it seems to be faster and more buttery than the previous versions. Download link below:

i have installed it, but it just won't launch.
Any help for my weird Problem ?
The new fact is that i CAN download some app with the good old market, when I uninstall all the updates.
But now, I've lost the list of my apps..., well, at least until I update them or something...
Ho.. And I sent a message to google, their solution was "RESET your phone".. not a such engineering .

HI,
Since the last version of google Play, I Just can't DL Any app with it New neither New app nor updating my apps.
What I tried :
Reboot.
Forced close
Erase Personal data of the app
Google writes something about reconnecting gtalk in some "pb resolution", I tried that.
I even uninstall the updates down to the market v2.x.x
Nothing good there neither. (EDIT : Now it works wtih the old market)
The last version is back by itself with no amelioration

Any update?
@gregaste : Any update on your problem?
Been having the same issue. Jumped through all the hoops but to no avail. The guys at Google are not being helpful at all.
Weird bit is, apps do update over the carrier network if I trigger the update from the web instead of the Play store app.

ALERT! make sure you download the new gear manager update from Samsung store!

I was bored yesterday and wanted to see if there were any updates, to my surprise there was a update for the gear manager. I installed it last night and apart from the updating process totally bugging out and freezing my phone needing a battery pull to fix....after the restart it installed fine.
I am now getting much better battery life out of the gear...it's at 99% after 3 hours off charger and moderate use. And that's with a watch styler face! So definitely worth doing this upgrade. Also...I would highly recommend uninstalling watch styler prior to the update. Then 're download a new one from the store.
I hope that I see some differences in power management.. So far what was the main issue for me is EXACTLY the same-
1. no change in contacts => they are still listed BY THE FIRST NAME - for me useless as I have a lot of contacts (In CONTACTS - GEAR Watch displays contact names listed by first name – even if they are listed on the NOTE3 by last name - this is true bug)
2. Still no way to see "contacts" and "favorite contacts" => You can only see one OR the other - I need BOTH!
Please list here things You would like to get - maybe SAMSUNG guys are reading this forum... for me:
- predefined SMS answers for the incoming calls
- battery level on the main screen (can be done through watch styler)
- ability to display temperature, atmospheric pressure, humidity… (all of those sensors are in NOTE3... but maybe some of them on the watch as well?)
- seconds on the main screen
- calculator
- compass
when going to the Samsung store it prompts to install on device.
On device it does nothing when trying to update. Anyone else getting this same issue?

I just installed on phone, then had to re pair and restore to the gear.
If your having issues, uninstall gear manager and 're install

Well that worked and fixed alot of the problems i've been seeing (Contact sync, Call history, etc)
I think i lost my root though. It did a reset of the gear. I probably could have stopped it but before i realized what i did...it was too late.
I just lost root as well, it tried to restore but got to 94% then error.

I've found that un-installing Gear Manager and resetting the Gear is the most reliable way to do the update.

Anyway I can get an apk of this somewhere? Still waiting for them to update my Mega to 4.3 and so far haven't gotten my brick watch to work properly on the older gear manager apps.
Can someone please upload the newest update. It would be greatly appreciated

v1.2.131013 (23 Oct): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46754713&postcount=10
I'm seeing v1.2.131013 (23 Oct) (This is the regular Samsung app store (search for Gear) not the gear app store (LOL so confusing)
The install hung on me at 3 of 19 but rebooted my phone and it installed fine over the other version when it came back up,

Interesting. They must've updated the app version number, but not the store version number. I just checked my app (the apk I posted before) and it is actually the 131013 version!

V1.5.121601 issue
so I woke up this morning all happy about the latest Gear Manager update and the fact that going into notifications and selecting more notifications showed the texting app I use Textra. Selected it and tested and sure enough it worked just fine, now that part happened on the 26th. Back to this morning (27th) and there is another update version 1.5.121601 and without asking me the little beastie proceeded to update. We all know the routine after the update, comes the restore question I answered 'yes' finished. Went into gear manager (yes the watch did install) and selected Notification > More Notifications, and that where the program froze. after about 2min it came up with an informational prompt "Gear Manager isn't responding. Do you wish to close it?" elections were Wait and OK. choosing Wait gets a 2min wait time and then the same message, OK closes out the program and then restarts it.
I have,
set everything back to factory resulting in same result
reset the watch and the note 3 resulting in same result
uninstalled/reinstalled Gear Manager same result
any ideas or is there a way to roll-back to the previous version
thanks for reading :fingers-crossed:
