Hello,
I upgraded to an ICS version 4.0.4 awhile ago through this website and it was a pretty painless process. Though recently I've been wanting a new phone, but looked into Bionic's software development and I see that I might be able to hold off if I can install 4.2.2 which seems to improve the phone a lot. Currently i am on system version 6.7.232.xt875, android version 4.0.4, build number 6.7.2-223_dbn_m4-9. I've tried installing safestrap 3.11 to start the process of installing CM 10.1 but it crashes every time I try to run it. Can someone please provide me with a starting path towards upgrading my firmware.
Thank You

You need to take the stock OTA (4.1) to get CM to run.

I'm currently running latest Eclipse ICS ROM with SS v3.11. Just started getting "com.process.google.gapps has stopped" and "Google Play services have stopped" error messages nonstop, constant. Tried a couple recommended fixes, didn't work. Had been fine with Eclipse ROM up to this point but decided it's time to upgrade to JB.
So...
Booted in stock ROM slot via SS. Downloaded the OTA update, tried installing 3 different times. Upon reboot, all three times said the update failed.
First question: I assume I need the JB OTA update prior to flashing a JB ROM, correct? If so, any reason why the update is failing to install? Will I have to do anything with root and SS prior to and/or after OTA update?
Second question: Once I get the OTA to install, which Bionic JB ROM has proven most stable? I want few frills, fast, simple, clean. Any recommendations?
Really appreciate any help and advice, thanks as always all!
If anyone's curious, figured it out. Uninstalled recovery in stock rom, saved root with voodoo, installed 4.1.2 OTA manually.
Hi.
I have just flashed the unofficial CM11 rom on the Original Android Development Forum on my TF701T. The install appears to have been successful however the system keeps freezing anwhere from 1 minute to 5 minutes after boot. Before it freezes everything appears to be working as it should. Any ideas what I have done wrong and what I have to do to fix this? Apologies if the same issue has been raised elsewhere.
Many thanks

I've not heard of this ocurring (my own tab has been running for a while now; no issues of this sort).
Are you on the latest ROM build (01/29)? Have you flashed the appropriate gapps?
Are you on the latest boot loader?
Any apps installed which could cause issue?
If it happens when plugged in to USB, is isb OK on your PC/Mac?
Have you used titanium backup to restore system level stuff from a non compatible build?
Do this,
Go back to stock (latest release from asus) and observe for an hour or two. Any issues? If not then flash ROM + gapps and wipe. Don't sign in and don't restore apps. Any issues? Then sign in and restore. Any issues? And so on and so forth until.you find the break point.
Thank you for your prompt responses as always and apologies for not replying sooner.
SDbags I am installing CM11 over your own excellent 4.3+ stock rooted v2 ROM which I believe involved updating my boot loader. I am unsure how to confirm the version I am on but booting into recovery shows the following
Android Macallan-user BL released by ww_epad-10.26.1.7-20131108.
Pershoot once the new CM11 was first flashed the TF701 would freeze during the setup steps well before any 3rd party apps could be installed. After a number of attempts I manage to get through set up and the system becomes a lttle more stable but then freezes after a few more minutes. I can conform that the correct gapps has been flashed using the link on the associated thread and no additional apps except the ones included on the ROM have been flashed. The system freezes without being plugged into the PC via USB and as mentioned before I am coming from sdbags stock rooted 4.3 ROM and have not used titanium back up at all.
A couple of additional point
1) I have tried to reflash sdbags ROM again but it now gets stuck on a bootloop.
2) I noticed that my install of CM11 is not able to access either an SD card placed in the dock or MicroSD placed in the tab despite the system recognising when they are inserted or removed on the task bar.
3) Because the system freezes so quickly it tabvery difficult to transfer a new ROM downloaded to my PC over to the TF701 because the moment it freezes the PC can't communicate with the tab.
Apologies if this reply is a little onerous - any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you both again for your prompt response to my.request for help.
Kind regards,
East
Hold down Volume Down and Power and read the bootloader version from the top left.

That's the wrong BL to be on. I don't believe sdbags' ROM updates BL. You must do it via Asus's update.
Go back to stock recovery and follow asus's procedure to update yourself to their latest 10.26.1.18 (4.3) build.
Dear SD Bags & Pershoot,
Apologies for not responding to your feedback sooner - Its been a busy week at work.
I will follow your advise and update the bootloader via the ASUS website and try to reinstall the rom again over the weekend or early next week and I will update this thread with the results. Once again apologies for not following the instructions more carefully.
Many thanks & kind regards,

Hi felIas.
I have updated the bootloader as I should have done initially which appears to have sent me back to stock unrooted 4.3. Please could you confirm that all I need to do now is install the recovery image and then flash CM11 and GApps? Does the rom file work the same way as SDbags rom where it also roots the phone as part of the installation or do I need to somehow root first?
Having said all this I am considering leaving the system as stock until a work around for sky go on rooted 4.4.2 devices is found!
Many thanks again for your guidance and patience.

Hey there I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing my problem. I updated to CM11 on my TF701 and while the dock and keyboard works some of the keys are dead i.e. Settings button, toggle wifi, toggle bluetooth, screenshot, disable trackpad, and auto brightness. Is there any way to fix this? I have tried editing the qwerty files and installing the asus keyboard apk, but neither worked. The APK did not install and editing the qwerty.kl file quite literally did nothing. Also curious if there is a way to get an external mouse to behave the way it did on JB left click is a standard touch and right click is back?

Kernel needs recompiling with fixes in it - not a huge job but something I have on my todo list - won't be for a while though.
Is there a thread I can subscribe to to get the latest news??

hi all, I'm a little lost on what to do. I'm trying to update my phone because I'm not receiving texts out of town (need to reset my phone to get them all every time).
My phone has the following:
android 4.2.2 vs98012b (verizon)
rooted w twrp installed (and I'm guessing some sort of ota block since it hasn't updated)
What I want to do is update my phone so it can get texts out of town so I'm thinking OTA? I've searched and found
VS98024A - OTA manual install + Patched Stock Kernels (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699123), is this the way to go?
Is there a flash I can just use? I don't need the latest OTA or Android OS since I'm fine with what I'm using now (although that would be nice too).
anyways, a point in the right direction would be much appreciated. thanks!

You need to wipe your phone to out of the box stock to use that method, if you're gonna wipe clean, you might as well take the OTA's to the current version of android on our phones.
Another option is this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715408
You would just need to update your baseband following the instructions in the post then install the rom via TWRP.
Either way you're gonna be wiping your phone clean.
Thank you. I went with the 2nd option and my phone is running great with the update.
Although it took awhile to reconfigure everything back.

PRIMARY QUESTION: I cannot seem to install any "ghost" KitKat or Lollipop ROM on my XT1058. Can anyone please help shed some light on this? I've spent around a combined 12+ hours searching, researching, and tinkering trying to figure this out, but no success. I typically receive a "com.android.systemui" error message or "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped" message. After I acknowledge the message, it pops up again in a second or two. I have to force a shutdown of the phone and recover via TWRP. I've detailed my history and attempts below.
On the CM website, it says something about how "ghost" is a unified OS for every Moto X, except AT&T, since it's not unlockable. With Sunshine, shouldn't I be able to install the "ghost" ROM? Or does it not matter? I hope this isn't a case of, "even though you have an unlocked bootloader, the 'ghost' ROM isn't intended for your version of the phone." If that's true, it looks like all development on the XT1058 has pretty much stopped.
Many thanks, XDA Community, for helping me understand all this!
Secondary Questions:
I recently tried using the feature, "fixing permission" in TWRP thinking it might help with the "ghost" installations. I started getting bootloops when trying to restore to previous ROMs. The only restore that worked was my true original stock backup; the other restore attempts on SlimKat and other stock instances failed. That worries me. While I have successfully restored my phone, does anyone know if I may have screwed up my phone for the long-term?
(Answered by KidJoe; thank you!) Since I unlocked my bootloader at 4.2.2, can I freely upgrade and downgrade stock OSs? i.e., Can I install AT&T's stock 4.4.4 and then downgrade to 4.4.2?
(Answered by KidJoe; thank you!) Why do so many people seem to care to downgrade their stock OS? While I'm sure some may not be happy with some changes that come with upgrades, what could possibly be so "upsetting" that people need to downgrade?
HISTORY
Phone: AT&T Moto X XT1058, non-developer edition
Android: 4.2.2 | No attempt has been made to upgrade the OS beyond 4.2.2
Used Sunshine to unlock the bootloader while still on 4.2.2
Recovery: Installed TWRP v2.8.1.0, and I use TWRP to backup and install old and new ROMs (I think it's version 2.8.3... I never downloaded a version 2.8.1, but that's what the screen says. I'm wondering if the authors just forgot to update the version number in the program.)
Successful ROM installs:
SlimKat build 7 Official, msm8960dt
Cyanogenmod 11 Snapshot M5 msm8960dt (2014-04-05)
Failed ROM installs:
Cyanogenmod 11 Snapshot M12 ghost (2014-11-15)
Cyanogenmod 11 Nightly ghost (2014-12-19)
LiquidSmooth KitKat v3.2 Nightly ghost (2014-10-31)
LiquidSmooth Lollipop v4.0 Nightly ghost (2014-12-20)
Other Notes:
GApps were always installed when available. I also tried not installing them.

I will answer these two....
1. NO you can not. Once you have 4.4.2, 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 on your phone, do NOT attempt to downgrade, even if you have an unlocked bootloader... For more details see what I typed here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/4-4-4-downgrade-possibility-t2971847/post57563419 along with the other discussions in that SHORT thread.
2. The older root and write protection disable processes for a Moto X with a locked bootloader (like ATT and Verizon) rely on taking advantage of vulnerabilities in the 4.2.2 w/Camera update rom version, or the 4.4 rom. These processes walk you through downgrading your ROM to 4.2.2 w/Camera update and following a set of steps to upgrade which will keep root and disable write protection. NOTE: It was safe to downgrade from 4.4. to 4.2.2 w/Camera update when following the SlapMyMoto/MotoWpNoMo processes. But that was the only time it was safe!!!!
KidJoe, thank you much!
Does anyone else have any idea about my "systemui" issue?

I bit the bullet yesterday and paid for the Sunshine bootloader unlock. After replacing the stock bootloader with TWRP and making a backup, I started looking into putting CyanogenMod onto it, as I had just updated a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 to KitKat (via CyanogenMod 11) last week and it wasn't right that my phone had an older Android build than my tablet. I ran into conflicting information here and elsewhere, but the bottom line:
I have CyanogenMod 11 running on my AT&T Moto X.
More specifically, it's this zipball (remove spaces in next line to bypass the forum's lame link blocking):
https :// download.cyanogenmod.org / get / jenkins / 90775 / cm-11-20141115-SNAPSHOT-M12-ghost.zip
I also tried the latest 12.1 nightly, but while it appears to boot up, it reboots almost as soon as you try to set it up.
One thing that seems to help: before loading any ROM (whether stock, CyanogenMod, or whatever), wipe the flash. I have the ROM and Google Apps files on a flashstick that gets connected through an OTG cable, so I just tell TWRP to wipe everything but OTG storage, restore the ROM, let it boot up, then go back to TWRP to install the Google apps.
(Good thing I had the stock ROM backed up...had to revert to it this morning to back up aCar and Stocard data so I could bring them into CM.)
Starting configuration for my phone: AT&T XT1058, stock 4.4 firmware, rooted with the usual means for doing so, bootloader locked until Sunshine worked its magic.
After more than 10 months after release, BLU has promised on delivering the marshmallow update. I just saw the notification today at around 4:00PM CMT.

Screen Shots Please....
I just updated last night. Everything running smoothly. I had the phone rooted previously but the one click root app got removed in the update process. If anyone has success rooting after the upgrade, I'd love to know about it.
I upgraded this morning and I've been having lots of issues with my installed apps, like Facebook, Messenger, Whatsapp and more, and of course I lost Root which was previously accomplished by KingRoot which doesn't work anymore.
Also I noticed that during the update process, particularly while flashing the firmware, it was flashed using my TWRP recovery and afterwards it got removed.
I'm sure that if I start fresh by performing a factory reset, all will be fluid and in working order, minus TWRP and Root of course, at least for the time being.
All in all, the update to Mashmellow seems to be awesome, some new features.
Cheers!
I'm having issues with the update. It downloads just fine and when I go ahead and try to install...it just spins around on "unzipping" and then proceeds to restart..or turn off for that matter. The phone turned off...I didn't do anything to it just let it sit there for a while and then I saw the charge icon show up (the one you see when the phone is off and charging) at which point I started the phone up. The phone did not update and I can basically repeat the process. There is 4.30 GB of space free and no SD card. What do I do?
EDIT:
So I tried again, kept at it and it eventually worked. Updated just fine but now there are doubles of all folders in the phone. When I plug it into my computer, all the folders (Music, Download etc etc) are showing up twice with the same contents in the each of them...
What...is...going...on?
Was pretty laggy at first. Decided back up my files and do a factory reset. Works much better now.

Yeah, mine is working flawlessly after a factory reset! Much improvement compared to Lollypop!
Anyone found a Root for Marshmellow yet?
Unless Blu changed something other than the interface I'd guess TWRP won't be working on MM anytime soon. It's a problem seen in the Gionee phone and I would expect the same to happen to the Blu. As for root and a custom recovery (although not a great one) you could try following these instructions: https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-15270.html
I've played a bit with the Gionee Marshmallow firmware on my Vivo XL during the past month or so, and one thing that really bugs me is that it seems to be shipping with a kernel that is way older than it should be on an MM release. And the OTA service that is known for leaking info also seemed to still be present in the updated firmware.
Can someone who's got the Blu update check if these two things are the same for the Blu release please? Enter device info in the settings menu and check the Kernel version for me. And, if you guys manage to get root, check if AdupOTA is still lurking in there.

I have my Blu Vivo XL with TWRP now, in last (small) OTA update a few months ago, I tried flashing back to original recovery and rom, but still failed OTA.
