[Q] Fastboot freezez...Help required - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am S OFF, UNLOCKED.
When I boot into bootloader and into fastbootmode, as soon as i connect the cable to my phone, the fastboot USB mode freezez... No keys work that time...I have to press and hold power button for a few seconds in order to reboot the phone. This happen always with me.
I wanted to backup my Stock recovery by booting into custom recovery using this command fastboot boot name_of_your_custom_recovery.img . It sends the recovery and everything is okay on the PC, but nothing happens on the phone.
But I did flash the unlock.bin via fastboot, that way it works....I am not getting what the problem is.
I need to backup my STOCK RECOVERY (HTC CID_J15) before flashing CWM.
ANy help would be appreciated.

Not sure about your fastboot issue, but just an FYI if you have upgraded your firmware and now have hboot 1.54 you can no longer use the command
Code:
fastboot boot name_of_your_custom_recovery.img
to boot to a non installed recovery. That can only be done with the older 1.44 hboot.
Since you have s-off, if you can get fastboot working, you should be able to flash hboot 1.44 if you the need the ability to boot a non installed recovery.

Could go a few different routes. First there are tons of users who posted the stock recovery on XDA and other sites. Also it could be pulled from the RUU if you device has one or one of the posted nandroid backups. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39588860)
This site has the original retail dump which has the stock recovery:
http://www.modaco.com/topic/361407-htc-one-retail-release-dump/
You have s-off, so you can downgrade back to hboot 1.44 and boot a custom recovery. Just flash the stock 1.44 hboot from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2316726
When finished you can leave hboot 1.44 or flash back up to 1.54.
Lastly if you have root you can look around (Will have to search) for how to pull the recovery.img like a system dump.
Best of luck.

No there are differences for some of the different models and carriers. You will have to match your CID to one of the nandroids or find the proper RUU.
The stock recovery was updated in 2.24 I think, but I am not positive since I didn't ever use it.
It will only take a few minutes to flash the hboot to 1.44 so that you can boot a recovery and take a backup for yourself. I would recommend that method.

Um, not sure where your getting that but just flashing stock hboots will not brick your phone. I have switched my hboot around between like 4 different versions 10+ times to test some things after the firmware upgrades.
Even the modified one are no problem.
Oh well. Good luck.

[Q] HELP: Messed up my kernel and boot.img

I know, two very bad mistakes. I was excited. First thing I did wrong was install a GE kernel when I should have installed a sense one..then I used fast boot to write TWRP to my boot image by accident instead of recovery. I tried to update RUU using fastboot, but I keep getting errors. I cant mount my internal storage, can't side load either.
Whenever I reboot, I boot into TWRP instead of system now. I probably have to restore, but not being able to RUU or side load, I dont know what to do. Please help!

Just boot into fastboot and flash a new boot.img which matches your ROM
Thanks! But where do I get a boot.img file? I tried looking but couldn't find one. I could just find ZIP ROMs and RUUs

Is this the boot.img that I should flash:

Also, after that, should I RUU?

Yes. You also should flash stock recovery before you flash the RUU, just to make sure everything goes right.

The RUU flashes the stock recovery so you don't need this. You don't even need the boot.img if you're going to flash an RUU. Just connect the phone in fastboot mode and then run the RUU. So long as you're S-OFF it should run fine
Your phone doesn't need a kernel to boot to recovery or fastboot, recovery has its own kernel built in... Just goto fastboot and flash a new boot.img
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Hboot_signedbyaa.img isn't a boot.img it's a hboot

Hi mate, in your signature I red OS 2.24.4018 / HBoot 1.54.0000 and now "tadaaaa" S-OFF and so on.
How did you do that? I've damaged my brain and gnawn down my nails but nothing works ....
Have you installed the 1.54.0000 on top of the 1.44.0000 (unlocked + S-OFF) and your HBOOT is still unlocked and S-OFF?
Or are u using the black&beauty ONE?
Then ou are a lucky man I guess.
God bless you.
I was S-OFF on 1.44 and then did the OTA so I kept S-OFF - sorry to get your hopes up!

[Q] bootloader hangs after certain fastboot commands

I am trying to return my HTC One to stock (practice run just in case). I have an all stock rom and recovery. I try booting into CWM temporarily with
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
where recovery.img is the CWM recovery partition image. This should allow me to flash a root zip for temp root.
It indicates that flashing was successful and that the device will reboot. It doesn't reboot however and also no longer responds to the physical buttons (volume up/down and power). I can reset the device and it then goes on as if nothing happened.
I have HBOOT 1.54 and OS 2.24.401.3. I suspect it has something to do with the HBOOT version. This would also explain the segfaults with revone I'm getting.
Can I downgrade my bootloader to a lower version so it becomes vulnerable for revone?

1- "fastboot boot recovery.img" no longer works in hboot 1.54, HTC remove that
2- when it hangs, to "unhang" it, just unplug the USB cable and bootloader should return to normal (did for me)
3- downgrading is only possible if you're S-Off

For S-Off, yes.
But you can still flash stock rom (since you have a nandroid), and then flash the corresponding stock recovery, and finally relock bootloader.
Though be careful with the stock rom, if it's 1.xx and your firmware is already on 2.x that render your touchscreen unresponsive and you'll have to use an OTG cable + mouse to get the OTAs to 2.x

I already flashed stock rom through nandroid, one with all the OTA's in it, but I can't remove the tampered mark in the bootloader? Or am I still getting it because I'm using the wrong RUU? My CID is HTC_E11, I always picked one of the RUU's that goes for WWE, but recently S-On is preventing me from flashing them since all of them are older than the software version of the phone.
To remove the Tampered warning you need to install stock recovery.

Bricked One

Hey I tried installing a 4.4 rom, got a boot loop recovery keeps crashing and I can get into fastboot now.
The computer is recognizing the phone and I can use fastboot to flash a new recovery but CWM and TWRP recoveries continue to crash on reboot... What can I do?
S-On or s-off ?
either way your best bet is an RUU. the GPE RUU if your s-off or the proper carrier/region RUU if your s-on.

Thank you for the reply, I believe it is s-On the top of the bootloader screen shows tampered & unlocked..
if it doesn't say s-off and you don't remember doing S-off then you're s-on.
What is your CID? you'll need to track down an RUU that matches. Also since your s-on you can only go up in versions, not down so you have to match the mainver.

What hboot do you have
1. Download a fresh copy of the latest twrp 2.6.3.3 from here ------> http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7
2. Throw that recovery image into your fastboot folder and rename it twrp
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot flash recovery twrp.img

On hboot 1.44 it was, but you're likely on a higher version already, so what you can do is flash recovery, root, and reflash stock recovery. That way you'll still get OTAs once you relock your bootloader (assuming that you're s-on, otherwise no need to relock)

you can flash your stock recovery the same way you flash a custom recovery. The only thing you need is to find the stock recovery you need. Check what is your main-ver # and download the ruu.zip or ota.zip that match your main-ver and extract the zip to find the recovery.zip file. Then move it to your adb/fastboot folder and open a cmd prompt from that folder.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_recovery.zip
fastboot reboot
you can also copy/paste the output of this command:
Code:
fastboot getvar all
minus EMEI and SN and maybe we'll be able to link you the stock recovery you'll need to flash after you have rooted your device.

If you can boot to recovery you can flash another ROM. You can use fastboot commands and push a ROM to your phone or put it on your SD card and flash it in recovery.
