Will my TV support ChromeCast?

Hey guys I am currently running a LG 42LG30 TV. Im wondering if the chromecast will work for the TV. It has a HDMI and USB port, but ive seen that if you have an oldish TV the audio might not work? Sorry if I sound like a noob. The TV does not support ARC if that is relevant. Sorry If I do not include something. Also should I hold on getting updates if I do get it and go for root? Or anything like that. Unfortunately I am unable to include a link to the TV as I am a new member,easy to find on amazon.

You will get audio on your TV speakers unless there's something incredibly wrong.
Do you have an audio system? Sound bar, AV receiver? If not, nothing to worry about.

Should work with any HDMI. You only need ARC if you want to output audio from your TV (to a sound bar or something else).

Could you use regular font size in future, it's very unpleasant to read current huge fonts!
HDMI is a standard and regardless if you have v1 or v1.4 ports it should work properly. As far I know Chromecast has HDMI 1.4. You may look at TV manual for HDMI version info but I doubt if it's there. For more info about HDMI version changes please read text from link below.

For those having problems with LG tv's not displaying chromecast

This was driving me.crazy for days. My receiver would play chromecast on my LG tv but when plugged directly to any hdmi port on my LG tv, nothing would happen. My LG would say starting chromecast, then nothing, no signal. I tried all Google troubleshoot recommendations and nothing. Finally, when I changed the aspect ratio of my tv to 4:3 then unplugged and plugged the chromecast back in (movie was already being casted from Netflix) it finally recognized it and I was showing the movie! It worked on all hdmi ports, after being able to cast, i then changed the aspect ratio back to just scan or 16:9 . Hope this helps somebody

No issues with my lg 2013 led 3d model. Set to 16:9 as normal and has always worked. Wonder if it is more a model specific issue. You should post your TV model info for others to compare as it isn't really "lg TVs" exactly

There have been many different TV's with this issue, especially with LG TVs. My sanyo has a similar issue, so I'm about to try this.

I just jumped on over there. A few here and there but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason. What I am getting at is we really need model number of TV, how you have it setup, is powered by USB wall adapter or USB port on TV, extension vs no extension. If we can get model info and setup info we might be able to learn more. Even TV firmware will help. From there we might be able to find another person with the exact same TV to learn if they have the same issue or not. Just want to help of course so don't take this the wrong way. It could be something simple.

It could be something as simple as a timing issue, especially in the case where Chromecast is powered by TV USB port.
Counter-intuitive as it may seem, HDMI prefers being plugged in to a "live" receiver for the handshake to happen. If the TV doesn't listen to HDMI while powered "off" but Chromecast still gets powered, Chromecast might not negotiate the HDMI handshake properly - and that usually requires a disconnect and reconnect to renegotiate.
IMO Google should really push wall power more. TV power is asking potential trouble if the TV powers off the USB port while flashing an update. Unless the TV specifically supports connecting a USB hard drive, I don't expect it to have any sort of predictable power output. Yes, I know USB spec says it must, but I've had numerous USB hosts with variable output, or at least that's what USB Voltage Doctor tells me...

I actually did this this weekend....
I have my TV mounted to a wall like most people and there is a pair of dual outlets on the wall that the TV plugs into...
I replaced one of the standard AC outlets with one that had a single Grounded AC and Two USB ports and now power my CCast with those.
Most folks use the TV USB because it hides the wires but for the price of $5 you can replace a outlet and get a much better USB Power source.

Someone over there, I'm assuming who works at google, keeps insinuating that they only have problems with TV's that have bad EDID's.

Would be easy (but not free) to test with an EDID replacer like Dr. HDMI or HDMI Detective but to be honest I would expect other HDMI sources like DVRs and Blu-ray players to also have trouble if it was truly an EDID issue.
I know some very old (early days of HD) sets report they accept 1080p but don't actually display it, which is an EDID issue, but that really shouldn't be happening for anything modern.

Yes, you would think, but google hasn't really made too much hdmi input equipment. The major things that are failing with hdmi issues are non-1080 native TV's such as 720 plasma's, and a lot of LG problems. I think that the latter additions to the edid standard to accommodate hdtv signals might be the issue.
Of course it would be nice if Google actually listed the TV sets that they are having issues with, but at least one person listed that when they talked to google support direct, they said that the one TV wasn't supported right now.

When I first got the cc it worked flawlessly on the tv hdmi input. Then I decided to plug it into my av receiver then when I went back to the tv recently, it wasn't working. All I got was , starting chromecast and then it would switch to the LG screensaver saying no signal. Numerous hard resets nothing..then I did the change screen format thing and it worked all the way

I did the switch my tv thing to 4:3 after I notice when the cc starts it looks like the starting chromecast font was at a lower resolution...so by switching it I thought it would recognize my cc at that a lower resolution

AFAIK the Chromecast boot screen is 480p, but after that Chromecast will try to negotiate 720p or 1080p.
Aspect ratio (4:3 or 16:9) just determines how your TV handles the signal (don't stretch or anamorphic stretch) - it shouldn't change what the TV communicates.

I was also having problems with my LG television and Chromecast. Chromecast turned on via the LG's usb port but tv was pitch black. I had to pull the powercord off and plug it in 2-3 times before the tv worked. Turns out that the LG had faulty panel.. and the TV was like that from the first moment I bought it. Hooray for warranty! The tv was 2 weeks old when I had it repaired.

Chrome cast in car dvd

I have DVD in my cat (pioneer avh 2450bt)
I was wondering, if I will buy an usb to Hdmi adapter and connect
The chrome cast to my DVD with the adapter,
It will mirror my screen??

Does it use much data??
And do you know any other way to mirror the screen?

I think the root problem here is that Chromecast and the phone both need to be connected to the same access point... of which you probably don't have running in your car. Maybe it would work with one of those wifi hotspots if the hotspot allows attached devices to see eachother.... likely wouldn't be fast though

well it won't use a lot of data (or shouldn't) because all it would be using the internet for is to load the receiver app.
Not sure Mirroring works on a phone in wireless hotspot mode. If you had two phones one for the Hotspot and another for the mirror it might work.
And Do a search here because some have had some luck using the CCast while in Hotspot mode but I'm not sure if Mirroring was possible with that.

He could use one of those MiFi pucks as an AP and it should be fast enough for CCast use...even Mirroring.

You could just plug the phone into the HDMI port of the DVD player if the phone has one...
Mirroring still requires WiFi access for CCast and the phone and Internet to work.

I have nexus 5.
I wandered if there is other mirror device that isn't required all this mess.
My friend have a DVD and someone installed him some device that he can mirror the screen with Mira cast, and no Internet required.
And i prefer it to be wireless.

As I see it, you have 3 choices:
1) If your phone supports MHL, go for a micro USB to HDMI adapter. This is wired and gives the best screen mirroring. No internet is required.
2) If your phone supports Miracast, go for a Miracast dongle. WiFi direct is used and no internet is required.
3) If you really want to use Chromecast, you also can. However, you need to make your phone a WiFi hotspot and need another phone or computer to setup the Chromecast to connect to your main phone. Internet is also required while screen mirroring. The quality depends on your phone model. Also note that only some phone models support screen mirroring using Chromecast.

Miracast doesn't require an internet connection, but it DOES require a Phone that is Miracast capable.
Anox gave you some choices but it would appear you need to get a Miracast dongle provided your Phone supports it.

I was thinking about the mira cast.
The only problem I have is that my DVD haven't got an Hdmi port.
If I buy an usb to Hdmi converter it will work? I'm not sure.

Well how did you expect to plug the CCast into it? It also has an HDMI.
You can buy a HDMI to analog converter but by the time you did that you might as well just buy yourself a cheap tablet and skip the Phone control altogether.
The converter is about 4 times as expensive as the CCast is!
and right around the price point you can find a Nexus 7 on Ebay for.

Opinions on best way to put screen from nexus 6 to tv without a router

Ok quick questions I want to be able to mirror my screen from my nexus 6 to a tv. Chromecast is not an option because where I will be doing this there is not wifi and a router available. Any suggestions ?

Not sure, but without WiFi, I think a USB to HDMI may be the only option. Again, not my specialty.

Things like EZcast can do wifi from phone to wifi on the usb dongle, however warning, screen sharing is flaky. You can share pictures and maybe videos via gallery apps, but anything else seems poor. You definitely cannot do games.

Your best shot is to buy a USB to HDMI cable (I don't know the name really), but at least I know that they exist and work.

Mhl adaptor

Uhm, hate to burst everyone's bubble, but nexus 6 *doesn't have MHL*. There is no way to plug an hdmi into a Nexus 6 with a wire. Chromecast or VNC are basically your only options.

Can't you enable Hotspot thus making your phone into a router? I did this when I moved and my Chromecast connected to it. Then cast screen. Just tested it and it works for me. Chromecast on. Hotspot I simply gave my Hotspot name same as my house wifi so everything can connect to my phone if needed. Then cast screen. I unplugged my router to test and it works fine.

It was just a suggestion, I didn't know if it worked or not, I cast to my xbone so no cable needed here

Request: Screen Mirroring

Hi.
Look at me, some new jerk with his first post being a request for screen mirroring on the Pi. What a douche right?
I have been doing a lot of research into this and nothing really seems too promising. Who the hell needs screen mirroring right? Just "play to", share the network, use lodi with custom repos or buy a chromecast and gtfo!
Dont get me wrong, I love the Pi, great device. Main problem is it is slow. Now Kodi running on my tablet screen mirrored over to my TV sure sounds a lot better. Since my TV, Xbox, playstation etc all currently do not want to screen mirror with me just yet, I think the Pi might be a good way to mirror the tablet to the TV since the tablet has a bit more CPU and 4 times the ram. The goal is of course to spend $0.
Raspberry Pi (original) model B (overclocked to over the highest settings)
Xbox One
Nexus 7-2 Tablet (rooted)
A slew of wires, none that go from usb to hdmi. One that goes from usb to VGA and another that goes from AV to hdmi)
An OTG cable (male microusb to female reg usb)
I feel like with the above I should be able to control the world :cyclops:, but I just cant seem to get anything going? What are your thoughts, I need a second pair of eyes on this as I could totally be thinking about this all wrong.
