[Q] No notification sound in Whatsapp on Jelly Bean ROMs - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have this awesome ROM from Mardon http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2212438 I went from stocklite v8 (gingerbread) to this rom. Of course everything wiped including dalvik cache. There is a problem with app Whatsapp. There is no sound of message sent or received, only vibration works. So the app is nearly useless. Does anyone has similar problem? I tried everything, different version of rom, wiping everything, uninstalling Whatsapp, erasing its data etc.
ROM: CM 10.1.2 modded by Mardon - version 2013-07-15 nightly
Whatsapp version: 2.10.768 (latest)
Does anyone knows some solution to this. Whatsapp developpers dont seem to care about this issue. Maybe I can solve it by profiles somehow. But dont know how.

im not facing this problem , im also on mardon modded rom , but try another version of whatsapp, like whatsapp+ , or check your sound settings, maybe there is something wrong

Whatsapp+ didnt help but I managed to get it working with profiles. So here´s the guide for those with the same problems:
1) Click on Settings -- click on Profiles. Then move right to Group app management add a new one (with +), name it for example "whatsapp" add Whatspp aplication, then move left to profiles, create another one name it for example whatsapp there go to the bottom to the whatsapp (group of apps you have just created) and there turn on notifications (you can set the notification sound as well). Then enable this profile and you have sound notifications in whatsapp again!

Solution added to FAQ section in my rom thread

Hi,
got same Problem on an S6500 (Samsung Galaxy Mini 2) with TheWisp´s Build cm-10.1-20130718-UNOFFICIAL-jena.zip.
Fingon´s Profile solution does not work for me. After trying, i got only once a Send Notification then nevermore and no Receive Notifications.
Any other Idea?

Had the same problem using the latest stable build of this ROM, but your solution worked like a charm. Still no "sent/received-message-light-pop" sound, but the general notification alert is working.

i have samsung galaxy s i posted it here...
the viber app comes with very annoying ringtone. do you know how can it be changed as through the app it can't be done
Yes, I would like to know how to change the ring tone to Viber. Basically, Viber is an application and is have an audio file that I could change with the same name. The idea is that I do not know where I can find the location of file in phone . APK remain in phone or separate files that decompress like the iOS ?
Edit: I mention that I already tried to change the APK file / res/raw/viber_ring.ogg then I resigned APK, may occur but unfortunately is not received by the server Viber
No one at all?!!
I've just installed Viber after my Whatsapp free subscription ran out. It's annoying not being able to customize the notifications. I've been using Light Flow to override the app settings, seems to work.
Go to Settings and check the "use system sounds" box, and it will use your phone ringtone.
How about Samsung Galaxy note viber???
How to change for samsung note?
default notification tone from viber is very low volume, would like to custom it. any idea?

Custom notification sounds

Hi, I just got this phone so please sorry if this was already answered before. Why is there no option to add custom notification sound to stock text messaging app? Is this the Android version problem or Samsungs Touch Wiz? Or is there any way around it?
( I have international model N920i from SIngapore )
Thank you for answers.

hi,
it's actually very straightforward .
Easiest is to connect your device via usb to pc / laptop. You pc will recognize device is connected (if you have the Samsung drivers installed)
Go on pc to Computer / devices and drives . Click on your listed device .Using pc, look for Notification, Ringtone Alarm folders. Click/open eg. Notification folder. Copy and paste your preferred sound etc across..
Reboot device and it should show up in your Note5/Settings /Sound and Notification / choose , either your Default notification sound or Messages notifications ,option /click on eg .Default notification sound and choose your favorite sound. (You can reboot if you want to and see if your favorite sound is "sticking" as default.)
Plse note ,
my stock sms notification/ringtone/alarm are all using a the selected custom sounds .Also understand that your custom sound selected ,will be used for all messages notifications ( eg sms ,email..... ( ? ) ,unless a 3 rd party app has an setting for its own notification sound.
good luck

hi ,
resizing picture's of contacts in phone app,i used to use 3rd party phone apps
( Ultimate caller id screen hd , Rocketdial ) I still have them around,as i have the paid versions ,but not installed .
They had option for full photo etc .I had since lost interest in the full photo options in dailer and is using stock ( themes ) phone app .
i have seen various mods threads over period of time ,claiming full photo mods/hack ( obivious you must have root ) but as stated am no longer interested .
I think it was in the Themes and Apps forum.... ..not sure ..
good luck

Chinese phone- l10, whatsapp and other apps not running in background.

Hello,
My dad bought the p9 not so long ago in China, EVA-AL10C00B386, android 7.0, EMUI 5.0, he stopped using it shortly after because if whatsapp was no open in the background, he would not receive any notifications.
My phone died yesterday so I'm trying to use his p9 now, not only whatsapp doesn't receive notifications when offline, I noticed that you can't use whatsapp on your pc either ( since it requires your phone to be connected when used), so I guess whatsapp (also telegram, but I guess it's a general problem) just doesn't run in the background when the app is not active.
I've been searching online for a fix, but I only found irrelevant solutions.
Is there any way to fix it? and if not, will installing a different rom fix the issue? if so, is there any specific rom I should get?
EDIT: I enabled developer options, and in the Running Services, whatsapp and the rest aren't running, so why is the phone blocking these services?
Thanks
try to use protected-apps to receive notification
http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/152649/what-is-protected-apps-in-huawei-phones
I can not find the protected-apps options, I looked every where, and under Battery, it doesn't exist, the closest option I found was settings -> battery -> close apps after screen lock.
And I already disabled it for everything.
For me worked to add a widget on my homescreen of the app you want to run in the background. With the widget the phone is forced to run the app in the background. With Whatsapp for example you can add the widget with all of the chats.

That's good to hear that it worked ?. You could also make Whatsapp to a system app. I don't know why but that works also but you need root for this.

Messenger is always running while WhatsApp isn't, how to stop WhatsApp from closing?

all the battery optimization settings for both apps are the same, what can i do?
stupid EMUI

Tried this?
Go to settings, battery and go to "Close apps after screen lock".
Whatsapp must be off so the switch must be greyed out.

And also, do you receive WA notifications on locked screen - if you receive, then it's ok

not always, sometimes i open whatsapp and the messages rush in
For me worked on my EVA-AL10 that you create a widget from whatsapp (the first one with the unread messages) and put it on your homescreen. Now WhatsApp is forced to run in Background and you receive the push notifications.

What other apps do you have ? I think it works with every app that has widgets. I suggest that you make a page with all the widget for the apps.
For me the problem sovled after i debranded my EVA-AL10 to L-09 and flashed BluWei. So I think the problem only existed with the Chinese Rom.
Other methods:
Try Settings>Apps>Settings>Special Access>Ignore Battery Optimization. On the dropdown select all apps and search Whatsapp and click on it. Then select allow. Now it should run in the background.
The last thing that i remember doing is turning Whatsapp (or any other app) in a system app. You need root and i used the app "/system/app mover":
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.systemappmover
Just click on the app you want to convert and press ok. Then reboot your phone. The only problem i had was that the /system partition wasn't very big so i could only convert like one or two apps (this changes with different phone/system versions)
If this doesn't work I would recommend installing an other rom like Magic Rainbow, Moonlight, Bluwei (all emui based) if its a big problem for you

Phone and Restart problem
Hi!
I want to report a problem I've found using some phone apps that required to be set as the default "Calling app" (Settings -> Apps -> Default apps (in the menu)), in case someone else has the same problem.
I have a SM-T715Y and the apps I tested are:
* Calls Blacklist - Call blocker.
* Truecaller: Caller ID, SMS spam blocking & Dialer.
Whenever any of the aforementioned apps are set as the default Calling app I can't answer phone calls because no answer/reject button is displayed (or it's invisible). WhatsApp calls work fine (those don't require to change the default Calling app). I suppose the problem will persist with any other app that requires to be set as default Calling app.
This may be a problem between the Google Phone app and the others, since I've used the blockers before without problems (in stock rom, another custom ROM and Dream UX).
Another problem I've found is that, sometimes, the restart doesn't work (Hold power button -> Restart); it's like the device shows a dialog with the screen turned off instead of rebooting, although this isn't much of problem.
Hope this helps someone .
And @Skulldron, thanks for Your work !

Hi friend. Its been a while since I've worked on the Pixel ROM as my focus shifted towards the Experience ROM. Ok so I know what the bug is. It is just that the apk called "incallui" was removed. I thought that it would be substituted with Google Phone but it appears Google Phone doesn't work that way. So all you have to do is get The Samsung Dialer apk from SAMmobile (Not apkmirror coz I dont remember the exact name) and place it in system/apps and give it correct permissions. Have a Good One!

If it worked this way we would have Oreo right now. If only it were that easy. Also @skaparate the dialer problem has been solved. Just set Google dialer as default phone app and the UI will be seen
Is there a version of this for t710?
