Wifi issue after s-off - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I used revone to s-off (which took many, many tries before it would actually work).
Now, the strange part is, my 2.4ghz wifi worked fine before I enabled s-off. Now I can only connect to my 5 ghz wifi.
I could use it but the 5ghz line seems to go down often, this is the routers fault.
When I try to connect to the 2.4ghz wifi it lets me input password, then it just saves it but never connects. If I try to force connect (tap the connection and tap Connect) nothing happens.
Anyone else have this problem?
I will try flashing a sense rom and see if it's the same there... But I'd love to use an aosp rom.
Could a mod be kind and move this to Q&A, Help?

I only bothered typing in my password for the 2.4 Ghtz pact of my wifi. As in, I've not tested the 5 Ghtz band. No issues. Stock 4.22 with S-off.

I've tried both Stock and GPE. In both 2.4ghz work just fine, so it seems to be aokp/PA/cm related. Maybe drivers/libs or something.
Though I guess we'd hear more if it was a common bug.
I've also checked logcat, but nothing in there indicates anything is wrong.
I did check some other threads, but most was that wifi was not working at all or that 5ghz was not working. Nothing about the 2.4ghz band

Wifi no longer working with paul's froyo [FIXED]

anyone else having the problem of wifi no longer connecting after updating TO froyo?
edit:
Okay just had coworker enable his nexus as a hotspot and I connected fine.
Must have something to do with the phone's wifi driver and home router.
Wifi still good for me.
Re: Wifi no longer working with paul's froyo
I see a bunch of people reporting alot of bugs in Froyo, i havent seen any bugs yet. My answer to OP is: No.

i can't get wifi to work on any froyo!
it's just obtaining the ip adress but not connecting
i'm having the same problem on my phone. i flashed the stock rom update-nexusone-EPF21B-signed, the the frf 50 rom and everything was working fine for a few hours then suddenly it stopped working. now when i try to turn on my wifi, it just scans then says it's disconnected then starts scanning again.
everything is working fine but i just can't get any wifi! :'(
Okay, glad I'm not the only one. Wonder how we can go back to older wi-fi drivers.

Hey if you got any ideas on what I did wrong, I'm all ears. All I know is wifi worked fine before switching to Froyo.
(but the new wi fi drivers didn't work on 2.1 either and i had to go back to the old ones)
Re: Wifi no longer working with paul's froyo
Mine disconnects after a while of not using the phone. Wifi on profile widget stays on. But in wifi settings it shows not in range which shouldn't happen anywheree in my apartment.
Need to turn off and turn onwifi again to reconnect.

if more than one person is having a problem, i'm certain it's not a user error like one person said it could be (quite an asinine comment if you ask me). it's never an operator error when you turn off your wifi and half an hour later you try to turn it on only to discover it won't turn on.....how the hell is that an operator error?
i didn't have any problems whatsoever. check the md5 hash, make sure your download was fine.
make sure you wipe everything, then reinstall. if you have old data cache'd, and then tried to flash the update, that may very well be the problem.
Yeah, having troubles connecting to 802.1x EAP Wireless Networks, PSK works fine for me at home.
Yes, I wiped, checked MD5 etc..
I'm using Pauls Rooted Froyo zip
i made sure to wipe data/cache/dalvik cache/battery and rotation. i do this everytime i switch roms. after 12 hrs of working fine, i just don't understand why it suddenly quit. before i flashed to froyo, i made sure to read up as much as possible to ensure i didn't miss a step. the worst part is, no matter which rom i'm using now, i have no wifi.
one thing i noticed is pre-froyo, when i flashed pershoot's kernels with new WiFi drivers i could not connect at home, but when i used kernels with older drivers, I was fine. That said, maybe it will work with other WiFi access points a la the point made about not working with certain WiFi router types. Will test when I have the opportunity.

edit:
Okay just had coworker enable his nexus as a hotspot and connected fine.
Must have something to do with the phone's wifi driver and home router.
I had problems connecting to my router (a Belkin N1). I set a static IP on the Nexus One and then it works perfectly.
I have tried to connect to my work router and it got a DHCP lease fine and worked fine (only at 54Mbps G speeds).
Perhaps this new radio image has N enabled and something is screwing up with the DHCP lease. I will try to replace my home router with another N router and report back.
I had the same problem with a message saying connecting but not picking up the IP address.
I suspect it was a conflict with the Static WiFi app I was using. I've unloaded this and after restarting and re-saving the static ip details it connected up OK.
For now I'll have to switch between static and dhcp manually I guess....
I came from Desire R19. My wifi doesn't connect as well now, i.e. seems to need a stronger signal from the AP. Last week I was getting 2 bars of wifi for the AP in my office, and now I get 1 or none. I'm getting a bar or two less at home too. I'm guessing some kind of difference in the Radio.
WiFi issue I have seems to be AP manufacturer specific
At home
Pre 2.2 I could connect without problem to my Linksys WRT 600N, no problems, DHCP etc.
Post 2.2 I cannot connect, gets to acquiring address and then craps out and re-scans
At work
Cisco wireless kit, (no idea of type of AP) pre 2.2 connected OK, post 2.2 connects OK
WPA2 security on both setups

Wifi connecting... saved... obtaining ip address... saved

I'm wondering if anyone running either cm 10 or Pac roms is having issues after a few weeks, of wifi attempting to connect then saying saved and doing that over and over again and not connecting. I know other people not necessarily using this phone have had this issue before but, I can't seem to find any solutions to the problem. I am currently running Pac all in one Rom and it was working great until today but, I have had these issues on cm 10 before and the only thing that seems to fix is to flash a new Rom and I like this one and don't want to re-flash.

I've been having this issue as well, again and again.. I've had about a 50/50 success rate with dirty flashing. Anyway, I believe the problem has something to do with the dhcp assigned ip addresses from the router. It's something on the phone side of it because changing dhcp settings, lease times etc., on the router have no effect. When you lose WiFi and it goes into that loop and won't connect, go into WiFi settings, and forget your network. Then select your network again and enable the advanced settings. Change from dhcp to static and then assign yourself a local IP. I have a Linksys router so I entered 192.168.1.8 . so I believe a netgear router would be 192.168.2.?? , the ?? or 8 being whatever is unused on your network. If you haven't already, enter your password and connect. I connected immediately after that. I understand this isn't really a "fix" because won't help you when trying to connect to networks that you can't assign your own IP, like say Starbucks or somewhere.. But hopefully this may point someone who knows more about this stuff in the right direction to actually fix whatever is off in the phone. Drivers maybe? Hope this helps!

Thank you for the explanation I tried a dirty flash and that solves it for about 12 hours. I am getting faster at flashing and restoring everything and am now flashing a new Rom every couple of days so it's not that big of a deal I'll just take it as a sign I should try a new Rom I'm now running the unofficial aokp Rom and I'm liking it next time it happens I'll just try another. Thanks for all the help glad to know the issue isn't because I've done something wrong.

Is there anyway to fix this issue yet?
@TTLayland said exactly what I'd say...static IP. I'll add the the Devs are working on updated WiFi drivers for the kernel. When that's ready hopefully that'll work for ya'll. I haven't had any WiFi issues for the past few weeks. Connected to my House, McD's, and the hospital.
Post the actual make & model of your router and I/we'll see what can be found for it.
Also, try setting the phone to 2.4 Ghz only...my old router was 2.4ghz and the auto setting would randomly kick me. New router broadcasts in both 5ghz and 2.4ghz, I connect to the 5ghz one and use auto without issue.

Ok, I didn't realize Devs were working on it. I have statics set for my home, but being a Network Admin I travel to many different networks and because of the way our network transverses settinig an ip is not an option as the same SSID is used for about 95 different sites. So DHCP is a must.
I just thought it was strange that the Carbon rom I am using was working for about 2 weeks correctly then stopped connecting, sometimes a reboot will get it to connect.
Thanks.

WiFi Disconnects & Reconnects after 4.3 update

One phone is on Flex's 4.3 Stock with Goodies. The other is my wife's stock phone with the latest 4.3 update.
After the update, both phones are reconnecting and disconnecting on home WiFi router constantly (every minute) This did not happen before the update. Wireless laptop still connects fine to the router.
Are there phone settings to tinker with regarding this issue? OR do yall think it's a modem issue. It should also be noted that my phone connects just fine to my work's WiFi.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Update/ Bump
Things I have done to my router thus far, and am still experience constant disconnect / reconnect
Set the router to B only
Set the router to G only
Set the router to N only
Changed the channel of the router
removed WEP/WPA Password
Upgraded firmware in this router
reset router
kicked router
Both phones are still having this issue. Do you any of you folks think it could be some conflict in handing out IP Addresses by the router?
ten etessar
I am having the exact same issue. It was happening on the stock ROM after the 4.3 update. Yesterday I rooted and flashed Stock w Goodies, the problem is still there.
Yup happening to me also but I thought it was just my phone not playing nice with the router. Problem persists even on the 5.5 roms

I was having the same problem..so I turneded off roaming and it still happened somewhat...then I reflashed the separate radio and it's much better

What radio specifically did you flash?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
This has happened to me as well. Changing the radio to the newest one helps a little as does changing to Roam Only or No Roaming. Also, placing the phone onto airplane mode and then connecting to wifi alleviates the problem. Unfortunately the most reliable fix I could find was flashing back to 4.1.2.
My theory is that something about how 4.3 handles connectivity in relation to cell service borks connectivity with all other radios on the phone because when I used my Moga with 4.3 it would constantly disconnect when the radio switched between Sprint and Roaming. But I'm not a developer nor do I understand much except for the basics.
Same issue. Only with certain apps though, like Facebook. Pretty sure it's not me because I'm stock unrooted and all my other devices work fine.
Yep, same here I am also experiencing an issue on Badseed's rom where I get a constant popup every 3 minutes or so asking if I want to allow data access for this trip or for all trips. No matter what I select it keeps coming back, even in settings where I select to allow all types of roaming I am still having this issue.... Any ideas?
I already had the latest 4.3 firmware update (soff) and then a couple weeks later I flashed the latest radio found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2406330
I also disabled roaming plus I changed the lte/cdma option under data settings to Automatic
So far so good

Wifi problem after 4.4 update

I updated to 4.4 yesterday (full stock, US unlocked version) through my home wifi network.
After the update my device is unable to connect to the same network.
Data works fine and I've connected to at least two other wifi networks I tried with no apparent problems. So the problem is specific to my home router.
I get an icon in the notification bar saying "Wi-Fi network unavailable" (Tap to verify Wi-Fi settings for this network).
In the wi-fi list my network exists with the description "Not in range" (tapping on it will say Signal Strength Excellent). This happens even when I'm next to the router.
I've changed the channels and still nothing changed. I also read that toggling "wi-fi frequency band" from Auto to 2.4 GHz helped some people but again no go.
Of course I tried all the basic things (forgetting the network, restarting my phone and router) however nothing seems to help.
Any ideas would be hugely appreciated.

Same issue with my wife's un-rooted stock 4.4.2 phone. ASUS RT-N56U dual-band router running latest firmware. She can't connect to the 2.4 GHz band, but the 5 GHz band works (different SSIDs). On my rooted custom phone, I can connect to either. I did notice her issue started after the last OTA though and just continues with this KK OTA.
I figured out that maybe adblock has something to do with that particular problem. Do you have it installed?

For anyone having issues, I'd certainly suggest you take a review of your Wifi settings on the router or AP itself. I've had people run into problems on account of them setting up their routers with [now] antiquated settings that could simply use a refresh. Yes, I get the cause and effect side of things.
I'm just offering that you try it with a completely open network, for example. No security whatsoever. Does it connect? No? Firmware update available, possibly for the wireless AP/router?
If it does connect, can we configure an SSID for WPA2-PSK ONLY? Ensure you don't choose what many do (in my experience) which is/was WPA/WPA2-PSK. Get WPA out of there. Just use WPA2-PSK and see whether or not it connects.
People who have had the issues in my experience were running a combination of WPA AND WPA2, or WEP, etc. It's good to at least see if a little refresh on the router helps - check out those settings!
Password length?
I wonder if this might help some of you. I haven't tried it yet myself but do have 63 character password on my 2.4 GHz network, and only 8 characters on my 5 GHz network.

Call me out for being ignorant on this one. Why did you upgrade to hboot 1.56? I've been on 1.44.0000 since I got the phone and am running KitKat 4.4.2 and everything under the sun for mods with no issues whatsoever (then again none of my mods require S-OFF). Since this is my first Android device, I'm not familiar with all things. I just can't find posts on why people bother with updating hboot - many times it seems unnecessary. Not saying it was unnecessary for you - just asking why you did it. Can you go back to 1.55?

Your all good. My hboot got upgraded from ruu a developer edition from HTC dev, the brightstar wwe. In order too downgrade, one must flash hboot 1.44. When doing this with newer software, it doesn't support the touchscreen drivers so you have to otg using a mouse to take the upgrade after the downgrade. But I couldn't do so because my WiFi doesn't work. But I have recently read that I just have to flash the hboot 1.44, then run the ruu without rebooting the phone. I had ran into driver issues for 1.44 on Windows 8 but used windows 7 to reflash the brightstar wwe ruu, cause it was the only one I had. HTC doesn't have an AT&T ruu. But have found one on guru's site, but google chrome says every attempt to download that it it's malware. But I'll give it a go again this weekend.

For what it's worth, try to change the WiFi key encryption on your router to WPA2-AES instead of TKIP.
I had similar issues, and could only connect if the shared key is AES encrypted.

I tried that as well. I even tried with the network open. At work it's a open network and will not connect their either. Thanks though. I believe that HTC is aware of the problem and that is why the 4.4 update had not been pushed to AT&T customers in the US as of yet. It's not a problem with all of the AT&T variants, just some. I'm not sure if it's my particular model. But I just got mine 2 weeks ago, and it's black.

Same here, but it only happens with some networks, like at work. At home, no problems. Running Team Nocturnal 4.4.2, latest radio, and tried other radios as well.
At work, I've got to cycle airplane mode on/off to get things running again, but then WiFi drops out again.
Tried turning off WiFi optimization, tried forcing 2.4ghz only vs auto, and also tried manually adding network by typing in SSID (on a Google forum, someone mentioned this fixed things for them).
No idea what's causing this. Like I said, home network works perfectly fine on 2.4ghz and auto mode.

Always disconnecting from any Wi-Fi source in on. At home either on the at&t uverse gateway or Linksys bridge in room. Same scenario. Even at Starbucks or in hotels i get the same issue. Just randomly drops off switches to 3g/4g then reconnects to Wi-Fi. Just like it did right now as I'm trying to post this

Same here. Completely stock. Happens on multiple wi-fi networks. I've tried all of the fixes mentioned in this thread. Extremely annoying. An airplane mode toggle seems to fix things for awhile, but it always comes back.
Any word on the likelihood of this being fixed with the upcoming 4.4 update?

I had this problem too doesnt happen on CM 11 but if i RUU back to stock wifi disconnects all the time. I disabled the NFC and that seem to work for me.
to disable NFC go to settings and under wireless networks there is a more menu. uncheck the last box which is NFC. the icon will also disappear at the top.
still the same. i tried all of those options. still does the random disconnect to mobile data then back to wifi.
This may sound crazy, but try switching network to cdma only, before turning on wifi. Noticed the random disconnects when there was no 4G LTE or it was spotty. Hope this helps Turning off mobile data completely while on wifi should also work

Any chance we're all having issues with the same comcast wireless router/modem?
I'm having issues with 2wire and Linksys. Nothing has seemed to help issue. Besides just staying connected to sprint network.
