[Q] Widget that allows multiple brightness levels? - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since there is no auto brightness, anyone know of a good power toggle widget that will do brightness on multiple or custom levels? The default 3 levels is too low, still too low, and burn my eyes. I'd like more levels or custom levels if it's stuck at 3.
Thanks! I did some googling but couldn't find "the one" widget.

It is not a screen widget, but the standard notification drawer widget has 5 levels. Dim, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%.

Reducing brightness further than minunum limit?

There any way to reduce the brightness below it's minimum limit?
For me on lowest it's still more than bright enough, and it's the main battery eater for me.
Thanks!

When i put it to the lowest using the system settings this widget tell me its at 8%. It lets me hit 0%
Also might try dazzle from the android market. Has a 4% option. Just put dazzle in search bar. Its a widget.

Also, the newer ROMs(JH3, etc) can make the screen damn near unreadable at the lowest brightness.
just a small observation that I want to share, when you have brightness setup at minimum level do not enable power saving mode, as it will automatically increase the brightness in some light condition.

Im using extended widgets too, mine goes as low as 1% but i think thats still the systems native low brightness Voodoo goes even lower...
Just slide your finger along the notification bar.
app called "brightness level"
set to 0%
Interested in this as well.
I think we are actually looking for something lower than 0%
It is probably the amoled screen vs backlit one, the way they operate. 20% on lcd is much lower than 0% on amoled.
Maybe there is some kind of overlay that can act as Rayban? Like ie when you do Titanium backup, you can see the rest of the application being much darker than the notification that pops up. Probably some overlay being used.
Maybe some of you asking yourself why, but try using it in complete darkness for awhile and you'll see what I mean.

Thats what i mean like a torch in the night.
I had tested all brightness apps in market but no one goes lower.
Thanks for help.
Mybe a dev or supercurio can help to explain
Yes, the lowest stock level is already quite bright, too bright of course for night use in bed.
You'll also notice that the colors & contrast looks quite dull on the lowest stock brightness settings, with a color deviation in the red shadow colors.
With the revamped Voodoo color which will be released step by step during the next weeks, you'll be able to go so "dark" (if chosen) that you'll be almost not able to see it in the dark even when on
All that, preserving color accuracy and color temperature (which goes more red when you lower the brightness on stock)

Screen filter is working pretty well, and you can reduce brightness to complete dark if you want (except the status bar). One annoying bug is that toast messages are not shown, only after disabling it ...
I am not sure if it has an effect onthe battery usage, but i guess yes if i am right about how amoledworks ...

Tip: brightness level (from CurveFish) via Android market goes to 0% , although not completely dark but works fine.
Brightness level does indeed allow you to select 0% but when I do that, the brightness setting in the application Extended Controls" will go from 2% to 4%
so "Extended Controls" allows you to select 2% as a minimum but this would actually be -2% in "Brightness level".
I could also not see any noticable difference between these two.
Does screen filter actually reduce the brightness or does it rather change the LUT?
It looks like it's just changing the color values to a 'more black' level than reducing the actual light-output.

Getting brightness down below 11%

Has anyone else noticed their D3 on stock ROM min brightness is 11%? I noticed since getting my D3 that it has always been pretty bright, even at min brightness level. And using the brightness toggle from Beautiful Widgets, I saw that the two options were 11% and 100%. Is this just the widget, or is the stock ROM set up to keep brightness at this minimum level?
I use my phone in the dark a lot and it kills my eyes to look at it for too long, so I'm wondering if anyone knows how to get the brightness down any lower without switching to a custom ROM. I am rooted, of course.
Thanks for any ideas/solutions.

Brightness Widget Backlight, in the market should work. It's has configurable steps that can go down to 1%. I'm using it on CM7 and can get it lower than the lowest brightness setting.
You can lower it with Quick Settings, but a reboot changes it back. The lower brightness appears to be used when the display dims from inactivity. If you are already on the lowest factory brightness setting it can still dim some more. Thats the only purpose I see of it.
I use Brightness Level from the market and it allows you to go lower than stock does. I believe that it keeps settings after reboot as well.
Sweet, awesome replies.
Lookup screen filter, and should be on the market if I remember correctly.

I just installed and tried Brightness Level and it doesn't allow brightness levels to go below the lowest stock level. I see no purpose to that widget since the Power Widget for android allows brightness level adjustment.
I'd love something that allows for true adjustment from 1% to 100% on the stock ROM.

Screen filter rocks - been using it since I got my D3 back in November.

App that uses brightness toggles?

Hi,
Not sure where the correct place is for this, so thought that I'd put it here.
I am looking for an app that controls brightness. I like the brightness of my phones to be dialed down to around 40%. I find it most comfortable for my eyes. Yet when it is bright out, I need to make the screen brighter. This means that I need to go in and manually adjust the brightness. I don't like to have the phone set to automatically adjust the brightness.
I'd like to find an app that allows adjusting brightness by icon. I don't want one that has one icon that toggles through a bunch of preset brightness levels. Instead, I want an app that can have different icons for different brightness levels. That way, if I wanted to toggle the brightness to 60%, I could tap an icon that does that. Then I could have an icon set for 30% to set it back.
Anyone know of an app that does this?

Lux, if properly configured, could do that for you.
I think I understand what you're going for. I use Power Toggles (Dev: Painless Apps), and one of the toggles on the widget is for brightness and I have it set to 3 settings when I touch it; 20%, 40% and 100%. It's not possible to set each new brightness widget for individual brightness presets, unfortunately, but I don't see how it would be difficult to just make some predetermined settings for your brightness.
By now you should have a pretty firm idea on what level of brightness you prefer throughout your day so maybe you can use this app and have 2, 3 or more presets. It's really simple to use, I have it set to 3 settings and touching the widget to get to the brightness I want at that moment is super quick and not difficult at all.
You can see in the screenshot I use the widget at the top on my home page. Brightness is among the other toggles I use on a regular basis. Much quicker to turn on and off things, IMO. It's right there on my home screen so I don't have to pull my notification window down. I hope this helps.
I just use Auto Brightness setting. I set the brightness slider at 40% and the phone will auto-adjust the screen to keep it at a relative 40 indoors and outdoors.
I think this is what you're looking for:
