Parse Error - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just received my HTC One today and trying to set it up. I have a whole load of 3rd party APKs that I had downloaded for my SG S3 and trying to install on my HTC One. I get the same error message every time -
Parse Error
There was a problem while parsing the package.
I had this problem on 4.1.2 and then updated to 4.2.2 and exact same problem. These files work fine on the S3.
Unlocked Bootloader, not rooted
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Colin

What apps are they?
Typically this occurs when you try to install uninstallable apps like system apps.
Also if someone screwed with the app and didn't repackage it properly it could occur

Various types, all like normal apps but perhaps themed, older versions, or homebrews. Various sources, all work in other phones e.g. S3
My brother has a HTC One too and exact same problem.

Chrome problems
Ok so after reflashing AMBP rc2 over the top of matts homebake 31002 i can't install chrome on m xt890 GB. I did use 39001 to flashboot after getting flashboot failures from that sdcard modded img that was posted. So i'm thinking it has to be becasue of the updated 39001 radio which is now on my handset ( From what i know you can't revert this)
In google play for Chrome & google plus it is showing that device is not compatible, see attached screenshot
So after getting it to sideload (which doesn't always get through) upon loading I get
"Critical functionality required to run Chrome is missing; either your Chrome installation is incomplete, or not compatible with this version of Android" then FCs. At first look google plus seems to run ok once sideloaded.
So how can i fix it? Device id in build.prop looks the same as the stock info. Keen to get this resolved so i can use chrome again. Prefer to stay on AMBP but might have to try stock homebake or even 39001 again so i can get chrome running as i prefer it to ICS browser.
Thanks!
Al
Edit: Also should mention is shows incompatible on the PC browser google play too, so can't get it sent via there either. Is there 2 APKs one intel one arm? can i get a link for the intel one if so.
after looking into it, its caused by running a non standard DPI. I've got my hands on a work around and its all good. Nothing to do with certain builds on rom just DPI.

[Q] Purchased apps can´t be installed after installing custom rom

Hello and thanks in advance for any help, that will fix my problem.
I unlocked the bootloader of my One yesterday via htcdev.com, used fastboot to flash the cwm-recovery and the right boot.img for the custom rom.
After installing the custom rom (I tried Android Revolution and Maximus with the right boot.img), I am able to do almost everything, except downloading purchased apps from the android play store.
For example, I purchased AppMonster Pro, which gets an error, after downloading from the market, which says, that it was unable to install it on my sd-card. Sometimes it says "play service" has ended. This happens to all purchased apps and games.
When I try to install AppMonster Free, it works. I downloaded about 20-30 free games and apps with no problems.
I searched the Internet for this error, where most of the people say, that I have to format the internal sd-card, but I haven´t found out, how to do that and I´m not sure, if that would help because the folder(which includes the file that might be the problem) .android_secure has been wiped before every custom rom installation.
Any ideas?
Have you tried a different version of play store?

I didn´t try that. How do I have to do this?
My Build-Version is 3.10.14. Which Version should I try?

I reinstalled the play store, with no effect.
I tried a workaround which worked for me, but the problem isn´t solved.
I installed *.apk of the purchased app from a backup, after moving it to a folder of my internal sd-card.
Now the purchased apps are installed and usable, but an update won´t work, with the same error (can´t be installed on the sd-card...)
I don´t know why and hope, that someone can help me to fix my problem.

The problem has been found in the custom rom from the devs. Installing a newer rom will fix the problem.
Ive installed custom rom with 4.2.1 same as my stock rom
though custom rom has change build type etc
now none of asec files in .android_secure are detected
is there a way to manually install them?

[Q] Google play issue -- This version isn't compatible with your device

I have 2 I897s.
The one running cm 10.1.3 gives the "This version isn't compatible with your device" message in play store for apps like BBM.
The other is running cm 10.1.3RC2 and has no problem downloading apps.
I read a few post that suggested changing the build.prop file. I changed all reference in the file from I897 to t999. This didn't work. I looked at the build.prop for the I897 that has no issue with app download and it had I897 in the file.
Any ideas what the issue could be? What other things should I look at to compare the 2 phones? Would different kernels or bootloaders have anything to do with this?
I had the same error and I was advised to check my OS version. I realized it's outdated. Try upgrading your OS.

Using "All 4" app with CyanogenMod 12.1 - "Missing software components"?

Using "All 4" app with CyanogenMod 12.1 - "Missing software components"?
Hi,
I recently purchased my first Android device in the form of an Android Fire 7 (2015) tablet. I really didn't like the stock OS, and so I've installed CyanogenMod 12.1, which is much better! Everything is working great - I've got ADB and fastboot working via Terminal on my Mac, I've got a Terminal emulator running with root access on the device, and I've downloaded a bunch of apps.
My only problem is with the "All 4" app - an app created by a UK TV network with the purpose of catching up on TV. I used this app on the stock OS, so I know it works, but ever since installing CyanogenMod it's been troublesome. On first launch, it gave me a warning about my tablet "Missing some software components" (I didn't get this on the stock OS) and after acknowledging that message, it told me that rooted devices aren't supported and that I may experience some issues.
I removed the root using SuperSU complete uninstall, and now I don't get the root error, but still the missing components. I've tried searching around for some solutions, and other users have claimed that simply hiding their root fixes the problem, however I've tried this, too, and still no luck.
Is it possible to dual boot the stock OS and CyanogenMod - so that I could only use stock for apps that wont work on CG? Is it something to do with DRM? Is there another fix?
If anyone can help me resolve this it would make CyanogenMod the perfect OS for my tablet!
Thanks in advance...
I've got the exact same problem. Missing software components and it won't play anything. So annoying! I wanna know how to fix, I've also turned root off.
I doubt you can dual boot. The system partition isn't big enough is it?

Unable to install Samsung System Newer version apps from ApkMirror

Hey guys,
i have Samsung Galaxy Note 8 SM-N950F (INS) (Non-Rooted)
i have seen newer Updates of Samsung system apps like touchwiz, phone, soundalive, gallery, and many more newer version apps in ApkMirror.com but when i download the newer version and try to install. it fails to install. it tells "app did not install"
1) tried the secure setup On and Off and it did not work for me in installing apk (failed)
2) tried OEM unlock and tried Adb debugger enabled and tried installing from Adb terminal pc (failed)
3) tried in safe mode also (failed)
4) tried uninstalling updates and installing newer direct downloaded from apk mirror (failed)
i simply could not install any newer version apps also in this note 8 could some one please find a solution for this as even these Samsung galaxy store and play store has too old versions of apk which i felt the rom is quite slow. if Apkmirror tells "there is no mod done to the apk and signatures are pure Samsung". then why the note 8 is not installing it.
Please dont tell me to root and do the copy paste and permission work (this process i know and i dont want to root my device at any cost)
Please someone find the solution for this problem without Root option its a really need to solve this problem for most of them (including me)
I FOUND TEMP SOLUTION FOR IT

Just wait till an official update comes along! It doesn't take long!

Settings>Lock Screen and Security>Unknown sources turned on? You shouldn't need any of the other things you've tried to sideload an app.
Also interested in this, there is a few updates on Apkmirror that I would love to update to, but I get the error "App not installed"
I usually only get that error if a previous version is installed. Have to uninstall the previous version then install the version you want. Updating an app by trying to install tge newer one often does not work unless updating from the Google or Samsung store.
Just wait for the official update. The one from apk mirror should be extracted from S8 android Oreo beta, hence apps not installed on note 8 (Nougat)
I was just hoping to get feature updates a bit earlier, since my carrier is horrible with updates. No worries though, thanks for the info.

Have you tried to install via adb?
Try going to settings, apps, click on the app you're trying to update, click upper right 3 dots, uninstall updates, then try to installing the new .apk.
This is the same problem as I described here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3701934
ADB will not work!
Installing after removing earlier updates won't!
This has nothing to do with the APK source! (and @Bandito: not all apks there are from oreo, lol. they are pure minority...)
Our Problem is a Samsung-wanted security mechanism to prevent manual updates for some Samsung apps, mainly system apps!
On S8 it worked to change device secure startup from one setting to the other, reboot, and then as long as you do not reboot again, you could update these apps with the apks from apk-mirror!
for note8 no such workaround is known, at least not for what I know...

Interesting.. Because I thought it was my "newness" to using apk updater.. I'm glad it's not just me, as I thought that was very odd also.. And like the rest of you all, I see tons of updated app on there that won't install..

I have exactly the same problem here. APK of any Samsung system app refuses to install. However, Samsung Galaxy Apps and Samsung Themes are able to be updated using latest .apk files from www.apkmirror.com, so give it a try! Installing via ADB returns this error:
HTML:
Failed to install app.apk: Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_BY_BUILDTYPE_BY_SECURITY_POLICY]
Searching this error on Google returns no useful results, so this definitely needs more attention. I also do not understand why the "About" section of each Samsung system app claims that "The latest version is already installed" when there is obviously a newer version available.

Hi all,
I had a similar problem. I was wanted to install a newer version of memo app on j510f with android 7.1.1 because after flashing new xsg rom it's missed its bidirectional writing ability (on android 6.0.1 it was starting from left side while typing english and was starting from right side while typing persian or arabic, automatically).
well, my solution:
first, i did what amit.a said in this link:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74589925&postcount=11
I'm not spamming keep reading
after installing it i used app2sd app to convert it to system app. then i restarted the device and finish!
after restarting, if app icon changed to android logo, reinstall it using amit.a's method.
i even installed samsung note with this way, but totally it didn't work on my device and stopped working
at the end, i really appreciate if someone send me the original memo app from j510f with android 6.0.1. hope it work on android 7 as was working on android 6.
Any more progress with this?
