[Q] Best rom for battery life - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I know probably someone has asked this question before, and it is the case of experimenting and finding out which is best. got a great deal on a used samsung galaxy s as my backup phone (htc one is my main chicken lol). so went through the procedure of rooting and what not, ive tried a few 4.2.2 roms but for some reason im getting a lot of battery drain( screen off) from a fresh install with no apps other than gapps installed, what roms have you experienced gives you decent battery life?

try 4.1 for smart battery usage, but check app running n manage it first

Gamerz rom v 4 and latest devil kernel.

From my experience I can recommend any SlimROM - currently using SlimBean 4.1.2 (v2.9) and it works very well when it comes to battery management. With wifi and 3G launched from time to time, a bit of messaging and few short phone calls a day I charge it every 2-3 days. Running Semaphore kernel.

well if you go to the DEV section you'll find several ROM's diserv to try i had the same question like you the only way to check out is to search on the DEV and give a try for each ROM ^^
here You can find every thing ^^ >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=665

Desperate,

Hi guys,I have just come from evo 3d, and have been with Android from the start, and had HTC for years, but this is my first Samsung phone, and I love it, I'm rooting this on Wednesday, but I have no idea what room I should download, obviously it has to be stable, and great battery, and coloured menu theme Buttons, etc etc, I was using Leedroid, and coredroid on HTC, my phone is unlocked and gsm model, and just been upgraded to 2.3.6, if any one can suggest a great room I would appreciate that.
Many thanks guys.

Ah, a fellow former 3d user.... I'm using rocket, so far best I've ran for myself. It's fast and I'm overclocked to 1.6
ps. This should be in question and answer for future reference

thanks for that,I'll move it in to Q&A, I'll give rocket a go.

To be honest; I've been using quite a lot of different ROMs and solutions
but, every time, I'm coming back to 'Cassie's ultraLITE Note'.
Lightning fast, the longest battery life, just really good!

Just give it a try, follow the advices from the second page, and you will be not disappointed.

cant agree more on this
oh btw this thread should be in the General Section !!
I'm really happy with Romow with AbyssNote, long battery life, and really fast!
Currently on MySam 1.5, like the liteness of the rom and ability to install removed apps through the nitrality app included in the rom.
Battery life is great as well with this rom and abyss note kernel v2.1

Advice needed

My girlfriend currently has this phone and she is complaining about how laggy it is, glitching and the battery life is horrible.. Otherwise she loves the phone. I was wondering what I could do to fix that. I was thinking about rooting it and deleting some of the bulkware that's on it and hoping that should fix it. I ran a app cache cleaner on it the other day and some of the apps had several hundred MBs of useless cache on it.
What would be the best way to spring this phone back to life? Root and clean up the stock ROM, or Root and install a custom ROM?... If so, what's the best ROM?
I use my note as my daily driver but still use the cappy as a back up and as dedicated podcast mp3 player. Best thing I've ever done is put slim bean on it. It's in the dev section.

After being on a gb rom for a long time, I made the jump to a jb rom and it has breathed new life to this phone. It's amazingly fast and smooth. I'm running the 4.1.2 slim bean rom and it's excellent. It's practically feels like a new phone.
I think installing any of the jb roms will make this device amazing.

I've heard Good things about slimbean, but have not tested it. Hellybean 4.2.1 right is working wonders for me! Also get a extended battery or spare. I got the gold batter which is really only like 1800mah in reality but $9 and fast shipping and gives a boost
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda app-developers app
Figured I've give my $0.02 as well
Ran Slim Bean for a couple weeks and then went on to try Captivating just to try it. Gave it a day, but didn't like it much. Went to CM 10.1 and have been on it ever since. Slim Bean might be as good or better than 10.1 to me, but I get better performance and stability from 10.1. Slim Bean will definitely make it feel like a brand new phone with the dpi change and all.
I think everybody here would recommend changing to a custom ROM (hey, that's what we're here for, right?). Which one is best is very personal to the user, so try some of them and see which one you like best, <strikethrough>most</strikethrough> all of the available ROMs are awesome compared to stock. The most important thing is to read carefully how to successfully flash your phone before you go at it.

Suggest a ROM

Hi all,
I have been flashing each n every rom which is released here.. All r gud n unique.
But m looking for a rom which gives the best battery life.
I use Internet a lot... I mean a lot... Over 3g as well as wifi... I get some 10 calls a day... Online video and audio streaming of two hours. Auto sync is active always.. What's app, LinkedIn and Facebook... All together say two hours a day..
Suggest a rom which can handle all these usage.
Currently using cm10 dla..
I charge thrice a day.. Battery drains like butter..

I think cm7 and ARHD are the best for battery life but they are probably not enough for your use. If you prefer jelly bean I would suggest one of the cm10.1 since they are a little better than cm10 in terms of battery life

CM 10.1 Jelly time
I'm using CM 10.1 jelly time, battery performance is not that good, other than that, it works fine...
Regarding, battery, I'm not sure whether it's because of google now function...

I found that if you enabled GPS, then GPS seems always working there even after you closed the map app and switch off the GPS signal, and drains a lot of juice of battery..
did you guys found similar problem?
i think Packman 20 will be good option
Try some battery saving measures in a CM10 build. Disabling Google Now and location reporting should increase battery by a lot.

Sense 4.1 ROMs are slow on the incredible s. Use ARHD, it's a great ROM which I have been using for the last few months. CM7 is also great, even though it's a little old, CM7 gives the best battery over anything.

ARHD would be a good choice.. for JB ROMs, the battery drainage is at a higher side..

Just look at the LARGE amount of thanks Mike has received from developping ARHD. There isnt a need for words to describe how great it is
But back for real, ARHD is fully stock with speed tweaks here and there. If you remember your experience (if u had one) on ICS with Sense 3.6, just look back at that, and then imagine it being about 3 or 4 times smoother
Sabsa Prime is a fantastic rom.

As you can tell, everyone is going to have a different opinion on this, so we generally close these types of threads before the conversations devolve. Please try all the ROMs and choose the one you like best. I personally change between different ROMs at different times as no one ROM is "best" all the time since they all evolve over time with different features and their associated problems. Purchasing Titanium Backup along with doing regular nandroid backups has proved very beneficial to make the changeovers fairly painfree and ensure I don't lose anything.
Thank you,

I am using AllianceROM from my signature. It is very smooth and snappy. It's TW based JB and it's nicely themed with OTAs and a lots of customizations. You can install with or without Samsung and Google apps. Just follow instructions.
I'm using Super Nexus 2.0
Pros:
Smooth and fast
No Bloatware
Great battery life
Cons:
None really. (some may say it is to much of a minimal ROM) but I actually like that
My favs
It's been about 15 months since i'm having my beloved Note, and i guess i flashed like 30 different ROM's on it, from GB's to JB's, CM, MIUI, literally everything. Let me mention my 2 favourites, The first one was this: [ROM][4.1.2][10/14] Cookies & Cream 1.3.0. Very highly customizable, smooth, and amazing battery life. The reason i stopped using it, cuz it has some flaws, i cannot save my contacts to the SIM card, or anywhere else, just to my Google, which i don't want. The other one problem was, there's no option to store the photos on your external SD card, only to the internal. Apart from this, a very good ROM. The next i'd like 2 mention is, my all-time fav, Chrack' s XXLRQ v16 Final. I'm using it for a while now, this is the most perfect ROM i ever used on my Note. Everything works perfectly, no FC's, lagging, smooth as melted butter, and it has probably the best battery life i ever experienced. Simply perfect ROM. I cannot recommend anything else more than this.
CM 10.1. Pure; like it should be.

I liked ultimate rom
In non tw ROM, paranoid android is my favorite....
Currently on alliance ROM... just loving it...
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
CM 10.1 is the fastest but also the softest
Paranoid Android is the coolest but buggy
All the TW ROMS including stock are dealable and for a major manufacturer to make a ROM that u can actually use WO having to be an I-Drone then i think every veteran would say that's impressive!
but also that, basic functionality doesn't mean that a C student getting a C+ is someone i want to hire or give a medal...u don't get praise for making something that works, after a million failed attempts, especially when u are a zillion dollar company
All the TW ROMs are pedestrian and I never understood why people can't live wo S-Planner? You use a TW ROM BC u have a separate tablet, and u cant live wo SPen...omg are u kidding? hahahahaha
Start flashing virgins, there's no reason we cant direct mobile computing....u can lay down and accept whats given, which is for them, or u can demand the best and push the envelope
Really we just want the hardware...
Thanks Samsung for making a device that I-Drones might look at BC its big but no thanks on trying to make more Samsung drones.... Its not good for humanity, technological advancement or me personally
BTW i use Paranoid Android (Jelly Beer)

P.A.C true all in one 4.4.2. rom, pacman Issues and troubleshooting

Hello everyone!
Couldn't find thread like this, so I'll start one now.
I'm a noobi and can't post in dev section yet, but I would like to mention some issues with the nightlies of this great rom. Many thanks to the devs!
One of the few bugs I found is that the wallpaper dissapear very often. The black "pacman" WP shows up instead. Don't know what's trigging. It's randomly. It started on around the 22/6 nightly. I'm not sure. It's anoying, so I went back to the 13/5 stable(?) release for daily driver
I also had the setting FC after uninstalling, but that's resolved now on the latest, right?
Battery life went pore on the 28/6. Anybody else have that problem?
Also have problems with alarm clock will not kick in if app kill on back button. Would be great to have the clock app blacked out also
Overall the Pacman rom is very good. Many great features
I will continue post issues with the nightlies in this thread.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Flashed 29/6 yesterday. Pretty smooth, but still draining battery. Today I flashed 30/6 rom and imidiately problems. FC android.prosess.media and playstore. I did dirty flash and did not flash gapps. Will try that now. Later....
Did now flash the gapps too and all is is well. A good idea to always flash gapps too as told in dev thread. I'm still learning..
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
On 30/6 the wallpaper still drops out and replaces with stock pacman. Only happend once today. Quite annoying. Also the statusline FC sometimes like earlier nightlies.
On this (30/6) rom the "green power" app have FC sometimes too. And mobile network can't be deactivated at all. Maybe the couse of battery drain..?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
1/7, battery life much better, but sometimes FC com.android.systemui. Randomly I think. Will flash 2/7 soon if available.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
How can i download this rom there is no link that exists on the net for (4.4.2)
