Low volume - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have my xperia sp from one week and i'm satisfact except the volume. It's too low in a call and also in my car bluetooth handsfree. Have you got some dissatisfaction? There are some hidden settings which I can use to solve it?
I came from HTC and I was sure that Sony have to be better in terms of sound and camera but I am a little bit disappoint. Overall pls help me with volume issues.

You can change settings for Headset, Phone Speaker and Bluetooth Device.
I'm not sure about the volume in a call. Maybe it won't get affected. Can't test it right now.
But the described things, like the speaker will get affected and there are some possibilities to
gain volume. Maybe there are some easier ways.
But one thing is for sure, your overall sound quality will rise if you use this driver.

dont blame Sony. Blame EU. Flash any ROM for a non-eu country.

I too had to bear with the low in call volume until I tried the repair function in PC companion. The volume has been excellent since!

Many years ago Sony was one of the first companies to comply with new EU limits on the output of headphone devices, designed to protect the user from over loud sounds. I believe it originated in France. With some makes of music player you could get around this by loading another region's firmware.
It's typical EU "nanny state" legislation. What it unfortunately doesn't take into account is a) not all haedphones have the same sensitivity and b) not all listening environments are equally quiet.
I can't say whether the SPs rather poor maximum headphone output stems from this or has another cause. What does annoy me, and the Sony is not alone in being like it, is how I only seem to have 3 or 4 useable levels all bunched at the top of the control, with large steps between them making fine control impossible, whilst the rest of the volume control seems to do sweet F.A....

prob is not headphone volume, it's low in call volume with the speaker. you simply can't listen to the party at other end in a noisy environment.

My SP is satysfing me fully, I haven't problem

I tried to repair firmware with PC companion and nothing changed...I have not seen any improvements. After that I put CWM on the phone and burn a non_EU Stock Rom ( I though from Russia)....other bad news...mu mobile data stop working even I put a new APN from Vodafone Romania. Also low volume in call on speaker was the same. The last I revert to a Vodafone stock ROM from Spain and I thing it's working a little bit better but not satisfactory.
I can't listen the other end in a noisy environment.

I'm sorry I'm just an ordinary user with no technical knowledge. I saw on Sony's support forum that they suggest repairing to resolve many issues so I thought I'd give it a try.
All I did was link up my phone and computer, run repair and follow on-screen instructions entirely. Once finished my phone's internal speaker becomes much louder.

Poor call quality?

I've had my 2X for a couple of days now, and I must say the call quality is quite poor. I don't remember struggling to hear the other person speaking on my Nexus One. The sound is kinda muffled and low pitched.
Anyone else who wants to share their experiences on this matter?
Same on my device.
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
Same here, any ideas if it's the hardware or if it's a setting that can be tweaked?
Hi mine is interfering with it‘s own speaker, but only when it‘s on 2g.
Do more people have this problem?
note when you use the built in speaker on hands free the interference is gone
seems the speaker near the camera is not shielded enough?
Dunno yet.
What radio version do you guys have? Mine is version 1035.21_20110223.

Works fine here in every department better as my old trusty Desire...

Strange.
I have seen reports of phones using a later version, but i don't know if we can upgrade to that at this time.

My Danish one that has the older radio sounds like playback is an old zx spectrum 1bit sample as soon as the person in the other end is speaking loud

Seems like this is indeed a problem for many of us.
Can someone of you who uses the newer radio (1035.21_20110302) tell us if you are suffering from the same issues?
Maybe someone can make a dump of the newer radio that we can flash when Paul from MoDaCo gets his CWM working.

Well don't have the issue to works fine here hence better as my Desire lol
Upgraded from a HTC Hero and I must say the call quality is lower on the Optimus 2X with my current radio at least (1035.21_20110223). People here me better though - so the microphone is better... Would be glad if a radio flash would fix it; official or unofficial.
the sound quality on mine is horrifying .. a little wind and i have absolutely no clue what the person on the other end is saying. my Desire was alot better than this
Android: 2.2.2 FRG83G
Radio: 1035.21_20110223
LGE: LGP990-V10a
My LG 2x is spot on and I will dare to say that the audio and call quality is at least substatially better then it was on my Desire
Also have some inn call audio problems. Even if I have volume on lowest setting, it is a little to loud and I hear some scratching sounds.
No problem when I use speakerphone or headset.
Phone bought in Norway.

Yes, even on lowest volume it's sometimes too loud in my opinion.
Would be an improvement to be able to make lower volume possible.

[Q] in call volume too loud?

hi guys,
does any of you know the way to decrease the in call volume on HTC One? I do struggle to use the phone as in call volume literally kills my hearing and I have to move handset away from my ear to feel comfortable. On the other hand, in S3 which I was using up until now, in call volume seems to be controlled in much better way.
I have installed and tried various apps from market but no luck. this is perhaps my biggest complaint about HTC One which in general is an excellent device.
...if only the in call volume control was better implemented (iPhone seems to have best implementation and smallest increments)

Weird Problem, Audio related

I got these ibeats earphones, worked fine on my sony Z until today.
I thought it might be the earphones but these work fine when connected to other devices(different phones, laptop etc)
So I thought it might be the Sony Z
The free earphones that come with the phone work fine, infact I have tried multiple different brands of earphones just to make sure and they work fine
But
As soon as I connect my Sony Z up with my ibeats no music comes out of them, infact it comes out the phone speaker.
Never rooted or flashed my phone, all standard
Only thing recently changed is that my Z got the 4.2.2 update last night, they been working fine since April so i don't understand. Since I got the update I listened to some music on my way to work, no problems, on my way back home that's when the the fatal weirdo problem occurred. I would appreciate any help or suggestions to amend this?

I don't those apps, What are they for? tried xperia diagnostics and got the earphone to work but only one side was playing so i suspect, its fault or cable issue, which is the reason why this happened, taken back the beats for cash back, using the sony ones for the time being. I only use walkman app, player settings don't have much except to change the equalizer. Asked one the gurus at the store I got and he advised that alot of people with sony phones sometimes have this happen with perfectly works ear/ headphones. very usual.
Sometimes new updates just makes it incompatible with some headphones. Like beats headphones from dr dre. It doesn't seem to work for some Xperias or all Xperias.
There was a thread somewhere, forgot where but there's another way around it if you search it up. Try googling it or sth.
otherwise downgrade it to use those headphones or stick with Sony headphones.
You can try repairing it with pcc or sus, or flash another ftf file.

If you are using SmartKey, disable it. Connect your earphones, play music, disconnect & reconnect the earphones.
This worked for a few people, hope it works for you too.
Interesting, some Apple earpods are also causing trouble since updating with the 4.2.2, i have a Bose AE2 but haven't tested yet (i'm at work) i have a bad feeling about this and i hope my Bose still works. Many people seems having troubles with their earpods/headphone.

What does smartkey do? got my new earphones coming through, I hope with the new set I wont experience any problems. Sony work well but volume sucks on them, is there an easy way to increase the volume on this device? Safety crap annoys me, back in the day walkmans were crazy loud. What ever happened to giving the consumer a choice.

Some great tutorials in the development section for when you're ready. If you're investing money in decent earphones then the improved sound mods will certainly benefit you.
Xperia Z
Its because your beats uses a inbuilt microphone... my Apple earpods also has inbuilt microphones and the Xperia Onyl recognizes Headphones without mics
got the same problem but i must click like 5 times on the headset (play button/answer button for calls) to make it work so the music goes trough the earbuds
try some headphones without micrphones built-in and see what happens then!

SmartKey lets you configure the button on the earphones.
You can set it to perform a different action when you press the button multiple times.
For example, you can set it up such that if you press the button twice when music is playing, it skips to the next track.
You can't change the actions, but it is a bit useful.
As for the volume, take a look here & here.

Official 4.4.2 not so great?

Hi, I got this update this week, but it seems to make the UI much uglier and harder to use. Also it feels a bit buggy, the Walkman was randomly playing and pausing on headphones or speaker.
Is it just me?
I'm on UK Generik .290 and still waiting for KK update.... Anybody have the update already?
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
We know that the KK 4.4 is not so great, users facing many bugs. I didn't update to 4.4 just because of bad reviews.
Make sure you hard reset and wipe the data clean. Usually a upgrade of a software version is recommended to do that.
I haven't had the music player malfunction.

Well the idea of new statusbar kinda sucks because previous was much more comfortable, additionally I experience major camera lag for example when switching front camera to back and vice versa, also phone lags after taking picture and while switching to video. I also experience Force Closes. Touch became less sensitive but as for camera quality I must say that 8MP mode now take great pics even in low light +1.

That's your Opinion.
Oh, I see. So everyone is having some sort of issue with this update... I hope they fix it, although I fear this is what we'll be stuck with for a long time, unless you go custom.
I've been having problems with the ringtone/notification volumes. This morning the volume was so low, I could barely hear it. Also, there is an irritating 'click' just when there is a notification.
Appears that the official Sony forum is flooded with complaints; it seems that sometimes it rings through the earpiece! I sure hope I'm not stuck with this for a long time. I wish I hadn't upgraded.
Is there any way to revert to the previous update? Or at last change the top toolbar menu back or at least change it? I don't know the term for it...
This upgrade has been the worst for Xperia Z1.*. Problems with sound notifications, overheating of the battery, rapid battery consumption, etc, etc, etc ...
I hope that Sony will soon solve these problems.
Greetings,
Before i flash back the 4.3 which at my opinion is the BEST firmware for Z1 right now , i played with official KK one week and i noticed that the battery life wasnt so great anymore , i had some random overheating problems , the new notification UI its terrible , i had the problem with the sound coming from the ear speaker than the regular speaker , the overall feeling was buggy less smooth .
So yeah i revert back to 4.3 and i am totally happy , loving again my phone , feeling comfortable and reliable .
Cheers
Vatis
I flashed my UK handset originally Vodafone but bought 2nd hand and network unlocked. I used Flashtool to flash CE 1 of KK (681) not had a problem with overheating or any other bugs mentioned at all. I did flashed with full wipe.
The overheating is just happening when i am gaming, but the sound issue is really bad.....cmon!!

Have you had any weird sound from speakers on notifications?

Just wondering if any of you sometimes have had any weird sound as distorted / cracked or garbled when phone is ringing or in any notification sound?
Problems found by some users and me:
Crack, Garbled or distorted on notification or incoming calls (ringtone) even on some games.
Doesn't matter the volume level, it's not happening because it is at max level and came a distorted sound, that is not the problem.
It fixes the problem turning off and turning on the phone, so this problem comes intermittent and barely..
I'm pretty sure that could be an android os bug or sound driver bug but still I want to confirm with some of you.
We have 2 Nexus 6 at home, my wife and mine and both of us have experienced the same weird sound issue rarely times and not often, so I don't think that is a defective hardware but I am not sure.
1st Nexus 6 phone Lollipop 5.01 , Stock and rooted
2nd Nexus 6 phone Lollipop 5.01, Stock, Not rooted.
Please advise.

Might help if you list @ what % volume you experience the audio issue. I have zero distortion on my speakers even at above 50%. Movies, notifications, phone calls all sound great on my end =].

At max. The problem is that distortion from notification sound it comes intermittent, it can happen once in a while, it is not always. That is on my end even on my wife phone it does the same. Isn't that weird?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
I have noticed this also, it is like a crack just before the actual notification starts to play.
I used to get it all the time on the Twitter app when loading photos (load a photo, go back leave it say 10 secs and load the same photo), it annoyed me so much that I changed my twitter app to just get rid of it.
Obviously is software. Sometimes even it doesn't come out. For example the facebook pop sound when you refresh the news feed. Going to RMA the phone for other issues, I'll let you know if in my new one there is the same problem.
I am having similar problems. I get massive sound distortions all the time. When listening to music, watching videos and playing games. It sounds like a vinyl witch scratches and hurts my ears. I had created another thread but nobody seemed to have the same problem. Is anybody here witnessing something like that as well?
I was having the same problems (at least I don't notice it any more). What I did notice it seemed to always happen when you double clicked on your notification from the lock screen. It was really starting to bother me as I paid a fortune for this phone and it shouldn't have this. Anyway's, I think I found a fix as I don't seem to have the problem any more (it's been 3 to 4 days). I went into sounds and chose other sounds and disabled the screen locking sounds. It seemed to have work. I do have the touch sounds disabled to, but when I only had that on it still did the distorted sound. I'll re-enable it and see if I still get the distortion. I'll post later on.

Are you getting this through the speakers or through a headset. Mine is working great for music or video playback. I also don't blast it either, that could be it.
I'm getting that same issue. Even when I get a call it distorts and it only seems to do that when my ringer is on full blast... It sounded horrible.. It almost made me wanna switch back to my M8 GPE edition.

For me volume does not matter. Also, it is irrelevant if I use speakers or headphones. Same thing happens.
