[Q] HTC One won't restart on its own - Sprint HTC One (M7)

I have a fairly new HTC One. It works nearly perfectly except it won't restart on its own. Which is keeping me from trying to root it. If I hold the power button and hit restart it'll shut off and not turn back on and I'll have to hold the power button and the center of the volume keys to get out to boot back on. If I just press the power of button it turns off and turns on normally. This is also keeping me from updating. It'll download I go to install it starts to reboot but once it boots down nothing. I have to hold power and volume buttons again. If anyway could help it be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure you're giving it enough time to reboot? It takes a while, give it a good 30 secs at least, unless you have fastboot checked in settings. To do a simulated battery pull, hold power down until you see the countdown box popup and it shuts down and boots back up. You will feel a vibrate when its booting back up and you can release the power button then.
EDIT: one more thing. Make sure you hold under bright light when doing simulated battery pull, otherwise it won't work. It's an safety feature to keep from button press while in pocket I guess

I'm sure I'm giving it a good amount of time. And the stimulated battery pull was a no go. It shut off but wouldn't start back up until I held the power button and volume up button

You should have it replaced then.

Bootloader Issues

Hi guys
I have been trawling this and other forums for 2 days now with no success. I cannot for the life of me get the phone into bootloader mode. I am currently using one of NRGZ28's Roms if that helps.
I have tried about 15 times to do it. Each time, powering off device, taking out and re-inserting battery, holding down volume down key as well as the power button, but the phone continually boots as per normal.
I've also re Hard-SPL'd thinking that was the issue, but apparently not.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks
Try this...
If your phone is already turned on, go to Start>Reset
While it's turning itself off, hold down the power button and the lower volume button simultaneously (at the same time) and CONTINUE TO HOLD! It should then go into bootloader.
Or take the battery out, re-insert it. Push the power button and lower volume button down at the same time and CONTINUE TO HOLD!
The important step is that you have to CONTINUE TO HOLD both buttons at the same time. Not just press them together and let go.
Hope that helps.
Every time I have been holding them the whole way through, even still holding once I hit the today screen just in case. Tried doing it your method through restarting while holding both, and the second method you suggested is the way I've been doing it each time. Taking out battery, re-inserting it, pressing both buttons at the same time and holding, but it just continues to boot as normal. I have recently had to take my phone apart due to the slide-out keyboard playing up and now some buttons are a tad hit and miss, but I have verified while the phone is on that both volume keys and the power button work as per normal

help!! how to revert rooted nook color back to factory state?

hey guys, hopefully someone can help me.
I've successfully rooted my nook color, but I want to revert back to the factory state. There are instructions in nookdevs.com/Flash_back_to_clean_stock_ROM on how to do it. But I can't for the life of me, interrupt the boot eight times. At most it's only once and no matter what I do, on the second time around it shows the boot screen.
I tap the the power button, once I see the "future of reading" words, I hold on the power button and it blinks and show me the words again. Which is good right? Then I release and hold the pwr button again ( I tried keeping my finger holding it), both ways on the 2nd time it would show the splash screen.
What am I doing wrong? thanks!

I'm a little confused by what you're describing, but you don't have to interrupt the first splash screen (touch the future...). Interrupting the "n" screen, and, I believe, the following boot animation will also do the trick. Unless you're bootlooping, just keep powering down before it boots all the way up, and it should restore.
or use this script here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879922
Thanks for the replies guys! The reason I go with the script is cause I lost my microSD card and I can't boot off of it to run adb so I'm stuck using the manual method.
Maybe I'm mis-interpreting the instructions on nookdevs.com/Flash_back_to_clean_stock_ROM incorrectly ...
1. Power off the nook.
2. Tap the power button.
3. As soon as Welcome to the future of reading appears, hold the power button down to interrupt the boot process.
-If the boot animation does not appear, add 1 to your interrupted boot count.
-If the boot animation DOES appear, your interrupted boot count is reset to zero. Start over.
Steps 1 and 2 I gots, thankfully For step 3, when do I press and hold the power button, when the words come up or when the "n" shows up? And when do I release and hold the power button again for the 2nd boot count?
thanks again!
I think you're making it more complicated than it needs to be. As soon as you see it powering on, start powering it off. Repeat 8x. Unless you're bootlooping or did something crazy to your boot partition, it oughta work.
Thanks wvcachi. But it is complicated!!
I'm having problems power it off, one the second time around, when I press and hold the power button, nothing happens and it boots all the way. I've tried different times hitting the power button, earlier, and all the time it boots through all the way.
maybe you can try and see if you can do it 3-4 times, and let me know when you start pressing the button and release for each iteration? I know it sounds stupid but seriously I can't get it
You have to hold the power button for nearly ten seconds. As soon as you see it powering on, start holding power again (to power it off) and don't let go until it's off.

Agreed...
1. Power off the nook.
2. Tap the power button.
3. As soon as Welcome to the future of reading appears, hold the power button down to interrupt the boot process.
Repeat...
I don't understand though... If you are looping it should reset itself. If it will boot use adb and just set the counter to reset or terminal on the device and type...
Code:
echo -n -e "\x08\x00\x00\x00" > /rom/devconf/BootCnt
1. HOLD POWER UNTIL IT COMES ON
2. LET OFF POWER BUTTON 3 SECONDS
3. HOLD POWER BUTTON UNTIL OFF
4.REPEAT 8 TIMES!
simple enough, for most humans.
I just press the power button and keep holding it down while it starts booting. Works for me.

An even faster way is the 3 fingers of salute.
Hold down power button, fractions after hold down volume up and fractions after the n button. Keep those 3 down until you see the reset screen. Worked for me.

Am I able to revert to factory after installing the CM7 ROM using the 8 interrupt method? I don't care what I'd lose, not concerned with backing anything up...
Search for nook color restore to stock in dev.

I tried it over and over for about half an hour and couldn't get it to shut down after the third boot. It seemed to ignore the power button after the first or second time I rebooted. I tried many different variations on timing, but nothing worked. People are saying to wait for the N, instead of "the future of reading," which I didn't try.

If you have difficulties to get in recovery/download mode

Hit volume up and keep pressing. Add startbutton and keep pressing and for last add powerbutton and keep pressing.
Keep pressed all 3 buttons until the phone shuts down and startup again (don't stop pressing in between). Recovery screen will show up.
If you do it this way, no need to pull out your battery first.
For me it works all the time.
To go in download mode just change volume up to volume down.

Hi,
Hold down your Power and both Volume buttons until the lights stop flashing and it turns off, try this under a bright light if it fails to work.
If neither works, plug into your PC and use
Code:
adb reboot
I try, but same. volume up+power, both+power...
I cant connect with USB

dont plug your phone in. put it under a bright light and hold power+volume down. make sure your finger isnt covering the light sensor
it Can't boot....Hold power button and volume down, it not booting..
I try with HTC One toolkit to reboot, but i have message: ERROR: DEVICE NOT FOUND.
What is p?
This a trick that has worked for me every time, with the Aroma freeze.
First hold down volume button, right after hold down the power button.
The Home and Back button will flash, count it to 12 times let go of power button and push it back in, while constantly holding the volume button down.
This should get you back to hboot. Hope this works for you, has always for me
thnks Xstop, but same, at me not working,,,
Will reboot if battery die?
just keep trying it and make sure your fingers are not covering the light sensor
There is only one solution that I read here which worked for me.
Hold the device under direct light (like from a strong bulb or something) and keep holding the power button, and the device will turn off. Afterwards, hold the power button as well as the Volume Down button and it will boot into bootloader.
I am not sure why that works, but it does. The sensors need to be receiving the light directly, I guess?

Glad it worked.

[Q] Flashed Rom. Now touch screen wont respond

I flashed this rom ( Sprint_HTC_One_1.31.651.2_Stock_Rooted ) . Phone booted and touch screen stopped working. I'm in a rough situation because the phone also will not reboot. I've tried holding all buttons, just the power button, the power and volume down button. No resolve. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make this phone reboot (besides waiting for battery to drain lol )so I can try to install another rom and see if touch screen comes back. Thanks
You need the newest firmware it sounds like

I cant do anything with the phone though because its stuck on the lock screen. Cant touch anything and cant get it to reboot
Oh and I accidently posted in the wrong section... wasn't sure if I should just leave it up or delete it
Just ask the dev to move it....hold the power button and volume down then release power after about 7 secs and press it again but keep volume pressed the whole time to get to boot loader then go to recovery from there

that would work great if the phone was off...but the phone is on the lock screen... When I hold the buttons It counts down 3....2.....1 then hangs at 1.. Ive held the buttons for over a minute no dice..... It seems the only way to reboot is through ADB but I cant allow my computer to connect to the phone because of the screen being locked... wish there was another way to reboot this phone without waiting for the battery to die

Hold the power button until the home/recent apps buttons at the bottom stop blinking...if it reboots let go of the power and hold vol down this will get you to the bootloader
If it does not reboot press the power and let it start to reboot and hold vol down
The buttons just continue to blink.. no reboot just stuck at lock screen

If you hold the power button down long enough it will power down or reboot
I held the power button down for over 2 minutes... should I hold it longer? Here's what happens, after holding the power button... on about 5 seconds in a message pops up and says continue holding power button for reboot. I continue to hold it and a count down starts.... goes from 3 to 2 to 1.... the phone just stays at one no matter how long I hold the power button in for

hmmmm never seen that before, try holding power and vol down see if it gets you to bootloader
Yeah tried that... pretty much tried all button combinations for all amounts of length....this is how stumped I am. I've been a member on this site for years and I think this is the first time I ever had to post a question about a phone. I seem to always find an answer but this time I just couldn't I'm baffled as to what can be happening and why this phone wont reset.
Yeah I mentioned that in an earlier post. I cant adb because I cant unlock the phone to allow the computer to be trusted by the phone... I have the phone sitting on the table with a piece of tape holding the power button in causing the screen to stay on and keep the endless countdown going... hoping that kills it quick..... I guess that's the solution to this problem if anyone else may happen to come across the same thing lol

How did you get yourself into that situation, lol. This is why I slightly perfer the Galaxy's because you can just pop the battery off. I get a HTC and just try and do as little as possible, and quad check everything.
Did you get it done atleast?

When you are holding the power button down and it starts to count down shine a flashlight at the light sensor to the left of the speaker on the top (or hold it under a bright light). I had this happen to me before where it wouldn't simulate the battery pull. Just sat there. Apparently the phone has a built in defense to not reset in low light situations in case you accidentally hit the power button while the phone is in your pocket. The flashlight on the sensor trick works. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314952
