Since yesterday my phone gets really hot while charging.
Both a standard charger and a USB connection to my laptop have this eeffect.
The only thing i can think of that i did, was an update of NFC software from playstore.
I have removed all NFC software and will test again tonight.
Anyone else with similar problems?

Since this could be a serious problem with some Xperia phones (i am not the only one having this problem) i thought it would be a good idea to open a thread on the topic concerning the Xperia SP.

Don't bother. It is normal for phones to get hot while charging, especially when you are running heavy programs and Wi-Fi.
My phone did reboot once due to overheating. No big deal really.

I also wi'll be looking for it. I'll advertise you if I find the solution before.
There are two possible solutions. First of them is to root your device in order to underclock the CPU to 1,2 Ghz. You won't notice any performance decrease but a considerable heat disminution. The other one solution is to unlock your SP's bootloader, rooting it and install a kernel compatible with undervoltage. Then, undervolt it.
I hope this may help you.
Cheers!
Could NFC be the problem?
First off, thanks everyone for your reactions.
I am a bit dissapointed by the reaction from Sony:
If the battery gets around 60°C or more, you are right to be worried. Try to keep the battery temperature beneath 50°C for a healthy battery life, there are apps and widgets on the Play Store which can measure the temperature.
Make sure there aren't too many demanding apps running in the background, try closing some apps and see what impact it has on the phone (charging or not)
My problem seems solved however. I remembered giving OK to an NFC software update the previous day.
So what i did was undelete NFC software and do a cold reboot.
My battery drainage is back to normal (meaning LOW) and no heatproblems anymore.
Furthermore the heat semmed to be worst arounf the NFC contact area.
Since this is a company phone i cant fool arounf with it to much.
I am curious to know if anyone has had the same experience?
Thanks all and Bye

Hi there,
I had the same problem, really bad battery life (maximum of 8 hrs).
I am a heavy user, using my data connection all the time and reading stuff on public transport.
I just rooted my o4xhd and callibrated my battery yesterday evening.
Today, i still have 57% battery, after 7hrs.
I am really happy it worked!
Still i wonder because i bought the phone new just one week ago.
Does this mean the battery stats were wrongly callibrated already from the manufacturer???

You should really try to callibrate the battery, after rooting.
Read my Previous post, it really helped me!
The last firmware disables some of the active threads. It's.. difficult to figure out which of the included apps don't go inactive, so the cpu idles, and so on. I mean, you could disable all of them, and just load the apps when you need them instead. But it's a bit overkill - and they did good work on the last update.
Hello,
I am thinking about calibrate the battery and use an app called Juice Defender. Is it a good ideia ? Will I get a better battery life ?

Oh I hate to hear this as you are a regular around here lately. Sounds to me like you OCd too much and fried your phone. I say that because of the many battery pulls you had to do all the time which is a symptom of OCing too high. Am I right on this or were you using a stock kernel?

Wow sounds like you had a bad phone then. Any chance you are still under warranty? If not well then if you can move on to something like the Nexus I would.
Ok, If you plug your phone into your PC you will probably see it recognized as a strange device, basically you have hard-bricked your phone and unless you have access to JTAG for your exhibit II and the ability to use it you are probably boned, It's rare for this to happen but it is the same kind of issue that occurs when pulling a battery during an OTA update.
Congrats, you won the Lotto.
Call T-mobile, tell them the phone won't turn on, don't resist and they will ask for your IMEI and all the related account info, you will be asked to ship your phone to them for a free replacement If you qualified under warranty still.

Yeah I feel your pain. It has been a one year war to get this thing to perform without freezing, rebooting and so on. It's fine if you use a GB ROM like RR or CM7 but I've gotten to rely on Google Now and don't want to give it up. Trying CM10.1 with PBE kernel for a few days. It froze up a bit today but I think much of the problem lies with Superuser which seems to be slow as Christmas at granting super permissions after booting. After switching to SuperSu, OCing to 1612 max (ondemand) with SIO things are running nice. SO FAR!!! Use to think SuperSu sucked but I'm starting to find out the truth.
This is kind of a last ditch effort. I have someone who's willing to buy it and if they decide to, that's all the excuse I need to get another phone. I don't think I'll get the Nexus though due to the fact it does not have expandable memory from what I can tell and even 16gb is not enough for me as I have a lot of music stored on my card.

BTW nobody has done this
Besides RR ofcourse which is also a nice ROM. An do believe Exquizit (sp) but recall there was a security problem? Not counting Peach in this simply cause as i believe Jocala put it "debloated stock".
Any how just wondering how fast and smooth GB could be with the right dev on the job.
Any solutions with this battery issue?
My phone never gets 100% charged.
Charging only stops at 80%.
Tried repairing it with sony pc companion but still got the problem.
Plug into the charger when the phone is shutdown. It will appear a battery icon, just leave it for 1 day then start the phone up
If that not work, fully discharge the phone (0%) then charge when shutdown (1 DAY)....
Use Flashtool to reflash complete FTF to see if is ROM problem....
If non of the that done, you might consider to go to sony service...

Dude.. I had the same problem as you. Please try this before you take it to the service centre or install any custom roms. I used this method, it's very simple. I kid you not, I have a Z1 as well, C6902.
All I did was switch off my phone with the charger still plugged in and let the phone charge properly. Mine used to get stuck at 78% but now it charges properly till 100%. I guess the problem might have been because I used to use the phone a lot even while charging, like playing graphically intensive games, streaming youtube videos through 3G, etc.
I'm starting to treat this phone like a jewel now, lol. I love this phone

Hello, fellas, I bought the E6553 and it was updated to 32.2.A.0.253, I disabled the bloatware that I'm not using, but the phone is heating too fast and too much even when only being here in XDA labs. The screen brightnes is like half, and I can almost cook eggs on my E6553, I get 50k on Antutu... is a factory reset an option, or should I make a PC Companion repair?
Will someone help me ?
This phone heats up and it's quite normal. You can try many options but the best one is to get rid of it.
I've got mine as gift so don't have invoice and warranty card so cannot sell it easily.
Or
You can try underclock the cpu. Further check the Rev of phone on the box. Mine is Rev 2 and it's gets hot easily. Rev 5 is said be cool one.

You have the same problem that I had. (Not bad as yours...). As you can see, all the core clocks are at maximum speed, draining battery. The solution is to change the 'scaling governor' from 'interactive' to 'ondemand'... But to do so you need to unlock bootloader and root the device. I did this last night and my battery is fine now.
You could also delete the cache+data from google play services, and reboot your phone (turn wifi off!). You will not have the problem anymore (but if you switch the Wifi back 'ON' it will come back after a while).
See more abou this problem in the thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2/help/frequency-sd660-stuck-maximum-t3832366

The normal cpu in iddle looks like the SS i've attached... It should increase clock when you're actually doing stuff, but, if the phone is iddle it should go back to the 'lowest' setting, which is what is currently in my SS.
And it will probably void warrenty, but I'm not sure... Good luck!
I am really surprised we are facing this issue even after having Android One. Wish I had waited and gone for Poco.

The solution is to change the 'scaling governor' from 'interactive' to 'ondemand'... But to do so you need to unlock bootloader and root the device. I did this last night and my battery is fine now.

Go in the 'CPU' tab and change the 'scaling governor' from 'interactor' to 'ondemand' (you need to apply this in two itens, each item control 4 cores - its under the section "Big Governor" and "LITTLE governors") then reboot device.
Use cpu-z to confirm if the value was indeed changed.
Quick solution is to reboot. Fixes the issue but it gets triggered again! Submit a ticket on the feedback app.. a lot of people are affected by the CPU maxing out

I am really surprised we are facing this issue even after having Android One. Wish I had waited and gone for Poco.

See if your CPU cores are maxed out using this app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cpuid.cpu_z&hl=pt_BR). Post a screenshot from the first screen.

It is just $50 more expensive and is available in India. No BS.
Xiaomi doesn't even reply to people or keep them updated like OnePlus does about the current issues and ETA of OTA.
A2 is like 230$ and poco is over 400 on gearbest for example. OnePlus yes sure they reply but they are lying all the time.
+1 , this sucks!!!

Poco will have their own bugs, don't worry.
this is Xiaomi world, good hardware, good price & lot of bugs.
I'm curious as why in CPU-Z, my processor is labeled as SD636 2.21ghz but the model is 660.
As for the cpu frequency, mine was like that until I stopped using the fingerprint and switched to trusted face.
It didn't get stuck ever since.
Now it discharges by 12% per hour without games, give it a try :good:
