Hi, recently i upgraded from lg optimus one to lg optimus 2x.
One of the biggest problems i notice is that i'm unable to use my o2x as a mass storage device.
What i mean is, when i plug it into the television i'm unable to browse the files on my sd card.. a thing i was able to do with my lg optimus one.
I'm sure that there is a solution and my guess is that it happends because o2x mounts 2 removable drives and not one.
Please help it's really important for me!
Thanks in advance!
Are you sure you use mass storage mod?
On my phone is default mode MTP.
Guide to switch to Mass storage (CM 10.1):
Enable developer mode by clicking on Build number (menu: about phone)
Connect phone to PC / TV
Click on "Connected as a media device" (notification bar)
Choose Mass storage from menu.

Have you installed the Samsung drivers?
yeah i've tried installing the drivers. the phone isn't even putting the usb icon in the notification tray anymore. just starts charging and that's it. i go to usb settings/mass storage and nothing. any ideas?
I got that too, I just put the usb cable in another usb port on my computer and tadaaaa: problem fixed
I had this issue and read in a forum (not sure where wish I did to give credit) where u need to format your internal SD memory (the built in 16 gig SD) I did that and it started to work again.

I had/have this problem sometimes too. choosing "ask on connection" usually works. I find that if you select anything other than "mass storage" then exit out, then go back in and choose mass storage, it works again.
Usually only have to do it once after a factory reset or on a new phone
I find my connection to be hit or miss. The pc picks up the drivers fine but doesn't mount the phone as a drive. Kies is a pain to get going too. I read on here that you need .net framework 4 and also no file names over 16 characters, and without kies I think you need to be in debug mode on application settings. I still need to try the short file names and see if it improve it but I never really hook up to a pc anyway, my father has win 7 and I have kies on his computer. I have linux mint 9 on my own so I rarely get to fitz with it on a windows machine.

I'm having this problem, can't get usb debugging mode to turn off. It immediately turns on when I turn it off. It's as the just says, "yeah, you can uncheck it, but I'm gonna leave it on."
My Galaxy Tab when connected to PC via Samsung KIES runs fine... but when I connect it as Mass Storage, it doesn't show up in My Computer... I even tried re-flashing the TAB again to overcome kratos and the default stock rom... to no avail... need help...
To make things a bit clearer, here's the setup...
USB Debugging set to OFF / PC running Windows 7
USB Settings set to SAMSUNG KIES
PC detects the TAB as GT-P1000 and I can access the internal storage... though a tad bit slow when transferring data & stuff...
USB Settings set to MASS STORAGE
PC detects the TAB -> TAB displays USB Connected -> press CONNECT USB STORAGE
PC detects TAB as Android UMS Composite USB Device -> note without drive letter
After sometime, I've finally found the culprit... here's my solution:
#1 - Set USB Settings to MASS STORAGE -> Connect TAB -> PC detects TAB but doesn't show TAB as USB Device
#2 - run the program diskmgmt.msc via Windows Start Button->Run->diskmgmt.msc
#3 - Disk Management loads all detected hard drives & USB media... saw my TAB's icon without the drive letter... (it seems Win7 had a hard time assigning one, maybe because I've got lots of USB drives)
#4 - Right-click on the TAB's icon and on the context menu choose -> Change Drive Letter and Paths...
#5 - Simply assign a drive letter and voila! Your TAB's detected again as USB Mass Storage
When you try to use mass storage do you go into menu, settings, wireless and network, usb settings, and change it to mass storage?

yes... it was working fine the last time I've connected the TAB as usb mass storage... but after the next time... it was no longer displaying on my computer...
same here.. using kratos overcome ROM.. my laptop detects the said removable devices but when i double click on it, it says it needs to be formatted.. =/
I am not sure if this will work, but see if USB debugging is on. If so, turn it off.

Already tried both, but to no avail... what could be the problem..?
Same to me and now I am back to the stock ROM though still no USB charging as original

Two ways depending on what youwant to access/ move.
1) In setting/ storage there are 3 dots in the top right hand corner tap them and it will say USB computer connection, tap again and if you haven't already done so put a tick in MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) this will allow to see and move only media files ie video, music and photos.
2) Boot into recovery, select storage and then mount USB, this will allow whatever you want. Remember to eject the USB from your computer BEFORE disconnecting.
Hope this helps.

Not that I know off, I assume it was a feature in CM 7, only started with CM9.
You could reboot to WebOS
There is an app called USB mass storage watcher That works reasonably.

I have only used it a couple of times in order to answer a similar question it seems to do the job but is a bit buggy.,there is an earlier version by the same developer , to be honest I am normally just transferring media files.
Anything else I back up to box as they have now increased the file size upload limit to 250mb which covers me for all my Roms etc.
it is possible enable USB Mass Storage Mode on the new htc one??
AW: USB Mass Storage Mode on htc one?
I hope this feature is coming soon. It is annoying with only mtp mode

mmm ok and usb host? works already?
Yeah USB host has always been working (USB OTG). As for the phone's internal storage, that's only MTP at this point.
Since newer android devices store what is essentially the sdcard on the data partition its nearly impossible to mount that as mass storage
It has its benefits, like having more space for storing apps since its all one partition
Now if we get s-off you could essentially repartition the phone to have a sdcard partition but that's just too much of a pain

I've seen mass storage be made to work on the Samsung Galaxy S2, which was also MTP by default
Hopefully its as easy as it was there, where they added a line to the build.prop
I thought MTP mode was a feature that came
With jellybean .
On my
One X this mode only appeared after upgrading from ICS to jellybean and custom Rom has re enabled the facilityto mount as USB mass storage on pc

Does Windows recognize the HTC One as a external drive with MTP? Is it possible to transfer files from PC<->Phone?
Just plug your phone in to the pc. You don't have to enable mass storage, the pc recognizes the built in storage on the phone and you can transfer files to and from the device.
I was going crazy myself, until I just looked under "My computer" to see the phone as a storage device!

Android's been pushing developers to move to MTP only for a long time. Prior, they could use both USB Mass Storage and MTP, because the storage was on a separate partition, but now that it's all on one partition (data), you can only use MTP. This is by design for Android, HTC's just following it. Samsung, of course, rarely listens to Google.

I plugged up to my pc and put albums in the music folder and picture albums in a pictures folder. When i opne the music app, it doesnt see any music and same with gallery, cant see anything only pics i've taken with phone.
To enable mass_storage you have to disable mtp
echo 0 > /sys/devices/virtual/android_usb/android0/f_mtp/on
Your pc will then install drivers for mass storage but the filesystem isn't mounted/binded so it doesn't show you your storage. I'm working on it just for the help of it.
To get mtp back either reboot or send the same command above, but echo 1 > instead of a 0
You may have to reboot pc at this point also if you get a unrecognized device error after disconnecting/reconnecting the device. I'm pretty certain this won't work properly and is fairly useless as well but interesting none the less
MTP is a pain when you are trying to manipulate several files at once. For example, NameEXIF will not work for renaming my pictures.

Samsung uses MTP for both internal and external storage... That's how it works on my S3 and Note 2. There are apps that will enable Mass Storage mode on only the external storage via a script, but that's third-party and not built into the OS.
You can't enable it on internal storage on any device because the purpose of MTP storage is to allow storage to be mounted both on the phone (by Android) and your computer at the same time. That's why only the external storage on Samsung devices can be mounted as Mass Storage (by an app); the external storage doesn't contain anything that needs to be constantly accessed in order for Android to run. However, since the HTC One only has internal storage, it can't use mass storage mode since you'd have to unmount the internal storage to access it from your computer.
tl;dr: No, for technical reasons.

Here is my issue: It's great that the HTC One support MTP for Interactive "drag and drop" of info off of the One... however I control this from my own .bat script. On my previous HTC (Rezound) I could mount both the Internal and SDCard storage as Mass storage (ie.. F: and G: drives) and then let my script pull off the data I want (which goes beyond photo's and videos to include .WAV files and other data I may have created on the phone that day). Is there a way to automate this transfer from a .bat file using MTP? If not, how do I get my "mass storage mode" back on my HTC One? I am rooted, so there must be a way to do this... I can't be bothered with HTC's Sync Manager since its extremely limited and not designed to go after .wav files or anything custom.
Thank You !

You could use adb push/pull in your scripts instead of using MTP.
I hate what they doing. I always used file manager like TotalCommander to operate on multiple files.
Now htc one s is not visible in total commander. Simple drag and drop is pain in my ass. Wasting of time for me.
If i have to operate in that way, i prefer to back to the state before update. :/
This sucks, and I thought my HTC one is miles ahead than my iPhone 5 thinking I can connect it to any computer and simply drag and drop files

Uhhh, you can do that. If you're on a Mac (which for some retarded reason don't support MTP out of the box), download the Android File Transfer utility. MTP is slower the mass storage mode but it allows the internal storage to be accessed by the phone and computer at the same time.

I noticed that my phone is no longer recognized as a removable flash drive when connected to USB (like my all old devices). But the problem is that copying files to it takes too much time. How to remove this ****ty "Portable Device" way of recognizing my Z1 !?? I want the old "removable flash drive" way of recognizing, AT LEAST for my SD card. I don't care for the internal memory, but I don't want to see my microSD recognized as a Portable Device and I don't want to wait the whole day for transfering only one folder of music.
