[Q] Sim Unlock for US T-Mobile Lumia - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am thinking to buy a Lumia 925 from eBay and take it back to India. Does anyone know how to get it SIM unlocked? I am not looking to pay exhorbant amount for the unlock. Any suggestions?

Buy it factory unlocked? Why would you buy a SIM-locked phone when they usually cost the same amount?
For what it's worth, TMo will unlock the phone for you, but you'd have to take it to one of their stores.

In the USA, the only place that sells the HD7 is T-Mobile and it is SIM locked to T-Mobile.
You can though, but it full price without a contract from T-Mobile, and that'll net you around $500.
600.00 and if you buy it off contract I'm pretty sure t-mobile will give you the unlock code but I might be wrong and you might have to use a 3rd party site.

Thanks, even if it costs $600, it will be cheaper in almost $200. If I can, I'll buy it.
Thanks again.

You can actually buy it on Amazon for $500, no tax or shipping fees, if you are in the US.

Click the Phone Only option, and there you go.
If you are coming to Toronto I'll sell you mine! I love the phone but I have to live on Edge since T-Mobile and FIDO are different Bands. I cannot get 3G with Fido network with the T-Mobile phone. Willing to sell the phone and then wait for WP7 and HTC HD7 that I can get 3G service with. It's unlocked so should work with any carrier. Just make sure you can get highest speed data back in your home land. PM me if you are heading this way.
So what's the procedure for unlocking the unsubsidised phone? Is it unlocked right out the box or would I have to call T-mobile?
I bought one through tmobile. I called them and 24 hours later they sent me the unlock code. via email. They told me it may take 8 days to get it but I got it the next day

Do you have an account with them / a contract?

Subsidy lock?

I bought a brand new ATRIX HD from Craigslist. The person did not steal the phone because he was kind enough to give me his two numbers, his full name and he even gave me 2 unlock codes to try out,but I couldn't read the numbers correctly so the phone went on subsidy lock. Even AT&T verified that phone is not black listed or not stolen.
I am with T-Mobile. According to AT&T since the phone is still in contract with the person who sold it to me. It is not eligible for unlocking and I paid 250 dollars for this phone.
Has anyone cracked this phone down or can unlock cellular.net help me out?

If it's subsidy locked, it can't be unlocked until either the subsidy runs out or someone pays the early termination fee. SIM unlocking is not possible on these devices via any sort of crack, and I don't believe that an unlock code will work. Your best bet is to contact the person who sold you the device.

I spoke to the person already and when I called him after selling the phone to me. He was actually at the AT&T Store turns out he still has a contract with them so the phone is not eligible to be unlocked until his contract is up and thats 2 freaking years. I bought another Atrix HD unlocked that same night I bought the phone so I am stuck with two Atrix HDs and I posted the locked on Craigslist.
My next question is if someone wanted to buy the phone from me on Craigslist. And they happened to be on AT&T. Will putting their sim card work for it since its on their network?
Yes. Att sim cards will work in it.

Is the full price sprint device unlocked?

If i buy the sprint device device at full price from amazon, will it be unlocked? Or have a chance to be unlocked?
The phone will be no different than the one sold at subsidized prices to Sprint customers. Like the subsidized version, you will be able to unlock the bootloader using the HTC Dev method. Again, there is no difference in hardware/software/firmware between the subsidized and unsubsidized versions of the Sprint HTC One.

It depends on who you're buying from and what theyve done with it. No one here is a fortune teller.

Its the same as the subsidized version. I do not know if the subsidized version is SIM-locked or not but whatever it is, its not going to change if you pay full price for it. The phones are all sealed in a box (so Amazon isn't going to open one up and unlock it for you, assuming that was even possible) and they don't have separate stock for those paying full price. They simply pull one off the shelf and charge you either full price or the subsidized price. In other words, they are all coming from the same stock/pile of phones, they are all the same. Now, maybe Sprint can help you unlock the phone afterwards (assuming that's possible and its SIM-locked to start with) but no guarantee of that.
thx dude , i bought at&t version, and will order one of these unlock codes off ebay

Question about the bootloader

Hello, i'm considering in buy a brand new Z3C online (from my carrier discount program), how ever i can't use any device without CM13. I wonder if any Z3C can have the bootloader unlocked.. and if not, if someone have a way to unlock the bootloader without the Sony method.
I can't check if the device i want to buy can be or can't with the dialer code as it would be bough online.
Impossible to say, if it's a sim free network unlocked device they supply then there's a good chance it'll be unlockable. The only network I know of that supply sim free network unlocked device's for both payg and contract are three UK. Without checking the device before buying it's a lottery basically.

Thanks. In the past, my carrier was well know to be the only one in the country with unlock devices that they sell and contract free. I'll call then and ask if it still is like that (i think so).
Also, a guy said that it is possible to install custom ROM with a locked bootloader... far as i know it isn't true. I'm right, or this guy is?

lol, that might make it a little difficult.
I was considering a subsidized phone...maybe I'll look at the Pixel 6. Will TM unlock the bootloader of their phones?

Get an unlocked variant, usually, carrier locked devices can't be unlocked...
If T-Mobile does offer the 5a, and if the TMO 5a can have the bootloader unlocked (likely but not guaranteed), it will first require a permanent SIM unlock and wait 40 days (apparently). Normally TMO won't permanently SIM unlock a phone before it is paid off (and a temporary SIM unlock will not allow a bootloader unlock). You could either wait the two years for the phone to be paid off, or you could prepay the balance on the phone. Prepaying the balance greatly reduces the financial advantage of buying through TMO. If you are a long-term customer of TMO you might be able to convince a service rep to do a full SIM unlock for you, but the cases I found of this were for multi-line customers who clearly were not going to change networks. Just buy an unlocked phone from Google or Best Buy.
