I have a stock Droid Bionic that I have been quite pleased with, well that is up until the latest OTA update I received. Prior to the update, I was enjoying 20+ hours of battery life with moderate use (with juice to spare), and had generally no complaints with the phone. A few weeks ago, however, I received an OTA update in the middle of the night, and it didn't take long for me to discover something with the update had caused my battery life to severely suffer. Long story short, I get about 8-10 hours of life now with very little use, and there is a constant drain whether the screen is on/off, wi-fi disabled, etc. Battery stats show Android OS and the Screen as battery hogs, and I have exhausted all options to this point without finding a solution (FDR, clear cache, etc.).
So now to my question; I feel as if my only option (other than getting a new phone or waiting for the official next update) is to root my phone in order to freeze whatever android app/services are causing my battery drain. However I am a complete newbie to rooting, ROM's, etc., and really don't know where to begin. I really only want to solve this battery issue to get back to the experience I had prior to this 4.1.2 JB update.
So, what would you all suggest as far as the simplest and easiest root solution? I know this might seem like a complicated (or even incorrectly worded) question, but I appreciate everyone's responses.
Thanks!

I've tried that a few times, but the problem persists. I've posted some stats from BBS (attached in this post too) in other threads hoping someone can help me pin down the issue. Thanks for your help!
You don't need to root to freeze apps.
Go to the apps section in the settings menu, then go to the all tab and click on an app you don't need and hit disable, it won't let you do it with a few apps but you can freeze a majority of the bloatware this way.
Also it might be worth it to try a battery calibrator, this doesn't extend your battery life but it helps ensure that your battery is getting a full charge and reporting the correct percentage.
If you do decide to root your phone check out marty45714's Easy Root for Bionic Stock 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) thread in the Bionic General subforum

Hey guy's i m not new to xda i m following threads from quit a time noe i flashed slim ics 3.2 on my i9000. The thing is i m getting average battery life around 3-4 hour when i m using wifi + facebook or just watching movie i don't know is it normal or not on idle i get around 1 day please tell me whats wrong ? when my battery got full charge it shows 1436mv from battery spy + most of the battery use is from screen phone is 4 month old i never tried gingerbread till now please help !! battery goes down 2-3 % every minutes some time one more thing i have used battery calibration and i too tried to charge battery from 0-100% many times still facing the same problem
Did you wipe the usual things before flashing?
If the battery bothers you, try to change the rom and see if the problem keeps going.
I had the same issue with my former android phone, turned out it was the battery itself and had to change it
My usage on average depending on what I am doing.
Screen on < 4 hours (possibly slightly more).
3g, Wifi, gps < 36 hours
3g, wifi, gps off. location based service off. limited phone use 3 - 4 days which is usual for me. I generally make a few calls (say 20 - 40 minutes), several sms and some time on xda, facebook, google+ (about an hour or so).
Currently on Slim 3.4.
1 day 6 hours down to 62%.
voice calls = 59 mins 33 seconds
screen on = 58 minutes
If you have things like 3g, gps, wifi etc all on these are also going drain the battery so a days is not bad either. Also make sure you aren't logged into latitude and turn off any location based stuff. Also don't overclock.
If you are worried you can try something like betterbatterystats from market or free on xda (just search for the thread) and see if you can spot anything that might be draining the battery.
That's pretty strange.
first of all, try a new wipe and install slim ics v 3.4. One of the reason I choose this rom is because the stock kernel has a wonderful battery management. So it's quite clear that something's wrong.
Could you give us the % usage?
Here are some SS i have attached i charged till 100% keept my phone idle for 2-2.5 hr 5 minutes of facebook and browser only and battery is 82 % now. I have install slim ics from some darky rom 2.3.7 from odin than dark night ics rom and than Slim ics. Please give me the stock rom link 2.3.3 for india it will be great help and please suggest what to do i even uninstall maps and email services ..

Here you can find some stock firmwares to flash: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881&page=1
Also: if you didn't, wipe battery stats before flashing a rom, with full percentage of battery.
To know the source of the problem, simply flash a stock firmware and if the problem doesn't get solved it must be the battery
So i flashed stock rom i used phone for 1.5hr and battery is 70% now 10 minutes facebook drop battery level 8-9% is it normal please reply ASAP

Hi. I've updated my xperia t to Sony's official JB 4.1.2 9.1.A.0.489 firm.
I'm noticing that the battery life is no as good as expected. If I charge it up to 100%, and leave it locked all night, in the morning it has 80% , sometimes 75%. Some days, i can let it locked for 6 hours, and it's still in 100% ( strange at all). Of you look at the screenshots, it looks like it's always awake!
I've also tried with Battery Guru app, but I feel like it wastes more than it saves.
A friend has a Samsung galaxy ace ( i know, i cannot compare) and the battery literally doesn't go down if he doesn't use it.
Thank's guys.
P.S: Any idea about 9.1.A.1.138 firm? Changelog? availability?
Odp: Xperia t JB Battery Life
Battery problem is already known for this .489 FW. It's just a very first public release of JB, don't expect it will be completely bug-free. We just have to wait for the next releases with fixed this and that so the battery life would be correct again.
I have the same problems like you but I got used to them. For the first few days I was really pissed off and thought about flashing back ICS .195 (which had incredible battery life) but number of the advantages of having JB on my phone was the main factor of not going back to ICS.
That happened to me also lost more than 15% during sleep.
I disabled google search, facebook, android wakeup, etc and turned off auto sync and i lost 1.3% per hour.
In ics, i'm losing less than 1% per hour. So this is pretty decent to me. I'm still getting 3 hours of screen time.

The Sony Alarm is Fast Dormancy
The other one is most likely the combined total of a number of apps - to see them you need to be rooted, then you can access "Alarms" from the dropdown menu.
How do I use:
adb shell dumpsys alarm > AlarmDump.txt
What app..cant find anywhere how to do this?
I have a V but generally same things apply.
I think there are simply too many items switched on that would not allow the phone to fall into deep sleep.
Also, a battery usage of 1.3 % / h when idle would hint to that.
I have around 3000 wakelocks, too, but under normal day usage and not during sleep. During sleep there a few only, wakelock time over night is 0 %, and the phone uses close to no battery. Straight segment is the night time usage.
Compare with the pic from above, that phone was used lesser than mine.
Hello,
I've searched the forums about battery drain problems regarding android phones in airplane mode but each subjects seemed different to mine.
I own a Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE i9305 under Android 4.3.
The phone is rooted, Greenify installed, hoping saving battery life but...
I've tried to do a full data reset + reinstallation of Android 4.3 official, with no success.
I've done the folowing experience 3 times with the following similar behaviour as last time :
- Phone fully charged before to go to bed, Airplane mode activated.
7 hours later :
- Battery is at 80%
- 0 minute in deep sleep, all the time in awake state.
Several behaviours noted by Wakelock detector and Gsam Battery Monitor :
- Device Idle and androidOS consumed 80% of the 20% used
- Misc processes seem to have used a lot of battery among them :
- AlarmManager
- PowerManagerService.WakeLocks
- KeyEvents
I'm including screenshots to illustrate all this.
If anyone has been thru this problem I'd be glad to know how to solve it.
Thank you !

Hi,
I do not have the exact same problem, but my phone drains battery more than often. With wifi, mobile data etc turned off, i have ~10% of drain overnight (7~8 hours). But my phone does enter in deep sleep and battery stats shows me nothing weird (most of battery is being taken from phone iddle /standby cell), it is driving me nuts! My wife have the same phone as mine, same firmware, same system apps, the only diference is mine have the new bootloader, but her phone drains almost half than mine. I'm now reinstalling the firmware with the exact same steps i did in her phone and if someone want i post some screenshots later.
Did you tried installing some custom roms out here who have not all the system apps the original package have?

I am using 4.3 Alliance Rom with boeffla kernel. I had the same problem with battery drain during airplane mode. While I was at work with airplane mode on, I lost nearly 20% in one hour. Because of it I switched to 4.4.2 aosp rom "aosb 1.3.0. Probam" (meanwhile there is 1.3.2 published) but there I had music stuttering and camera issues, but perfect battery life. Because of the problems I decided to go back to 4.3 and gave Alliance Rom another chance. And now the battery life is wonderful like on 4.4.2.
Maybe try the same way, first to update on an aosp rom with excellent battery life and then go back to android 4.3. Maybe this will solve your problem, too.

Hi,
By any chance, do you have XPOSED framework enabled and do you use for example Wanam Xposed module ? If an option like "Turn on screen when unplugged" is unchecked (ie if you don't want your phone to wake up after you unplug it from USB), you may encounter battery drain. It seems that sometimes the phone doesn't enter in deep sleep if the USB cable is unplugged from a PC in this case. I have this kind of battery drain and since I've checked "Turn on screen when unplugged" option, no more battery drain after a reboot.
I'm not sure but you must give it a try as it worked for me. No problem so far.... I hope it will help.
Hi and thank you all,
I'm taking good note of your advices.
I did install Xposed and Wanam. I didn't pay attention to this option and since then completly reinstalled 4.3 official ROM. Battery drain vanished.
I now have the phone going to deep sleep normaly.
I've been reinstalling all my apps slowly one after the other, and didn't try yet to reinstall Wanam Xposed, as I know it modifies the system relatively deeply.
But the envy is here and I think I'll install it again. Ok, let's go, I'll do it tonight. I'll pay attention to "Turn on screen when unplugged" option and will ensure it is checked !
It's worth trying, though all these battery draining problems seem mysterious...
I'll post a reply in a few days with the results...
By the way, I installed Agni kernel wich uses Boeffla engine too. After activating "Extreme battery save" mode, the battery life has doubled or so. I'm happy about this.
Thank you again, and let's see how xposed wanam behaves...
GREAT.

hi all , before I continue I would like to let you know that I have read a lot about the issue I'm expiriencing. I'm also not the complete noob in the area and know some stuff about Android.
Here is the story :
I have a Sony Z3C which I used almost 2+ years without any issues . I like the phone a lot , especially I liked the battery strenght , which was able to last at least 2 days. ( i'm not using battery consuming apps a lot - games, facebook , etc. ).
Suddently the battery started to drain fast, even if the phone was idle. I didnt change the way I used the phone . I realized that if I leave the phone at 100% before I go to bed , at the morning it is at around 50-60% .
Then I thought , the battery is probably dead , I used the phone 2+ years already. I thought that I can do a factory reset before I replace it . So I did it , the situation was the same . I thought that some app upgrade is bad and is probably consumin, so after the reset I didnt install anything and tested without any additional apps or GApps upgrades . The behaviour was the same. Then I repalced the battery with a new , original one...
The new one behaved exactly the same way like the old one . Then I did a complete wipe using TWRP and installed a newly downloaded image of MM . Behaviour was the same . The I rooted my phone and installed a Mobile radio active fix from Gplay , which I thought might be the cause - didnt go better ... Then I have reset my battery stats by following the battery cache wipe instructions . I charget my phone at 100% i deleted the batterystats.bin file waited until phone turned off , then chaged the phone whithout starting it , once it reached 100% powered it on . Unfortunately the situation remained the same .
Here are some tests I did :
1. I charged my phone full and here is the showing 2 hours idle ( battery saver turned off) .
{

}
Please notice the showing of the apps consumption .
2. I turned plane mode and battery saver on and took another screenshot after 2 hours
As you can see there is no difference in the battery drain .
3. I turned plane mode off and took another screenshot after 2 hours
4. Here is what Google services showing :
5. And after another 2 hours :
6. Until I almost reached the end at 17 o'clock .
I only have 2 guesses here the first one is related to a HW issue with the phone and the second one includes spies , corrupted govorment and aliens ....
Any ideas guys what could be causing this ?
Many thanks in advance
P.S. I forgot to mention I have tried different chargers - the current one I'm using is the original one Output 1500 mA
Most likely Play Services is causing the issue. Go to battery and turn on Stamina mode, that should prevent Play Services from issuing so many wakelocks.

Even if stamina mode is turned on the same behaviour is observed . As you see on the screenshots even with airplane mode turned on , the battery drains almost so fast like when off .

Did the GPlay services update itself? Check if you are running latest version. You can install Better battery stats from XDA, and Wakelock detector from Play Store, than observe what's running in background causing that much drain. It certainly is weird seeing that behavior even after factory reset.
HEBF optimizer from Play Store might help minimizing Play services drain, and ultimately if you are not GApps dependent you can replace them with MicroG.

Well the GPlay services are complete crap, as terrible as FB app is for example. It's just unpredictable with that mysterious drain out of nowhere, you never know when will that happen, and worst of all you can't find out why, but it surely will happen. That's why I remove it completely and use MicroG instead since I don't need any of the Google Apps except the Play Store for the convenience in auto updating the apps (could do it manually with apkmirror.com though).
Have you checked with Better battery stats?
You should download and install Wakellock detector & amplify & greenify....these apps are magical
Are you on lollipop? Do you have xposed installed? If so, this module might be worth a shot:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-mobileradioactivefix-t3189393
Might even help if you're on MM, might not help at all... Just trying to help.
Hi! I experienced exactly the same behaviour with Z3C.
Battery time was great for 1,5 years, and since last week it magically lasts only for few hours and charging is slower. I didn't root the phone but reinstalled software using Sony Companion (didn't help) and did factory reset (didn't help also). Nothing was changed during this time. The only suspicion - i started to charge phone using cheap power bank. Maybe that's the problem and the power circuit is damaged (eg. short circuit) ?
Does anybody with properly working Z3C can check the CPU load average? You must enable 'developer options' clicking few times at Build number in Options/Phone Info, then in Developer Options click Show CPU usage. In top right corner you will get an overlay with output of Unix uptime command with 1/5/15 minutes average load. On my Z3C i have high CPU usage (i think) - about 13/12/13. At Samsung S6 i have about 3/4/4. I don't know if that high numbers are normal for Z3C or it's only on my device.
I have got the same issue on SLiMM 6.0.1 ROM and on my dad's non-rooted phone Xperia M5 running MM 6.0.1, too. I have Xposed. I had followed battery life tweaks guide and i have disabled keep awake but it still draining battery. 6 hours later, Google Services started to use 90% of CPU usage for no reason. I rebooted my phone and it happened again. I updated Google Services to 2.0.99 and it solved the high CPU usage issue. I'll report back about battery usage

Hi ! When you say this , I remember that I used a cheap powerbank to charge my phone a month or more ago . However I have replaced the battery , so I think that even if I damaged the old battery , the new one should be ok . I have noticed that when I fully charge the battery , the first few % are draining as expected , after that it starts to drain drastically .

I have also attached the logs generated with BetterBatteryStats , but I start to think that this is a HW issue ...
P.S The CPU load avarage is showing 11.06/11.3/11.38 on my phone ... My wife's phone Samsung A5 is showing 6.1/6.5/7

Are you on lollipop? Do you have xposed installed? If so, this module might be worth a shot:

Might even help if you're on MM, might not help at all... Just trying to help.

Yeah, I didn't think so either :/. I mean, if you want to investigate if the problem is hardware or software related, you could try to deinstall google play services and related packages via titanium or sd maid or similar and see how that turns out.
And regarding the CPU usage data, I don't think that that's worrisome, considering the snapdragon 801 is at least one year older than any galaxy s6 or galaxy A CPU and less optimised.

The same in my Xperia. After fully charged battery lasts 100% after 20 minutes (when i don't use it). But from about 75% discharging to 10% is fast, even when i don't touch the device.
So about physical damage - i thought about damge of phone circuit not battery itself. My friend told me that he had similar quick discharging problem with one chinese phone (don't remember model - but will ask). He had 3 different batteries and this problem was independent of installed battery.
I don't know how to interpretate load average. In Z3C is quite high (like yours 11.06/11.3/11.38 or my 12/13/12 - even just after factory reset). I don't have comparsion to properly working Z3C, but i checked it for Z3 (not Compact) and load average is also high (about 11).
I installed terminal app, run 'top' command, but didn't observe any abnormal application. It looks normal, but maybe the cpu usage has a burst character... don't know.
My battery status
I have the same problem
My battery is discharging by itself even when my phone is turned off: 90% to 4% during the night. It started happening when I started using a powerbank delivering an output of 2.5 amps. The stock charger is at 1 amp.
I downgraded to lollipop 5.1.1 but nothing changed so I think this problem is hardware related...
An update :
I brought the phone to a service and they tested it for almost 2 weeks . At the end they said that they can not determine what the cause is and that they find it strange as well and can not repair it .
So I will search for a priest .... or a new phone....
Does anyone know what is IPSECADAPTER and why is it keeping my phone permanently awake?
Samsung Galaxy S5, Android 6.0.1. Stock ROM, unrooted.
This wakelock occurs often, but not always, after app updates from Google Play are installed. The phone is left on charge overnight and play store auto update is enabled, updates seem to happen overnight. On several occasions when I unplug the phone in the morning this wakelock goes nuts and burns through my battery, but I have no idea what it is or how to stop it. I have to check the battery drain in the morning and restart the phone if this wakelock hits.
I have searched for IPSECADAPTER but found nothing anywhere on XDA or elsewhere. I don't know how I have managed to find an issue that no one else has ever seen! I have only had the phone a couple of months, got it 2nd hand, gave it a factory reset and it installed a bunch of updates when I first got it.
BBS log snippet below.
NlpWakelockAdapter is another culprit that burns though my battery on occasion but that seems to be related to areas of poor signal or similar.
