[Q] Root WiFi Tether - T-Mobile - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a root WiFi Tether working for T-Mobile's Xperia Z?
I installed the XDA WiFi Tether and it worked when I initially installed it but it will no longer work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

I am using WiFi Tether for Root Users on my Xperia TL and I just test with my T-Mobile Z.
It works on both, but it is shutdown on Z saying Z takes back WiFi.
I will find out what causes this.

Did you change any settings or just use it on the auto profile? This is the once I have tried. But I get "Tethering started with Errors"... The log is showing it is failing to load the WiFi driver.
Thanks!

I forgot to tell, you select Generic ICS/JB (wlan0) in Device-Profile.
All others won't work.

Okay, I am in the same boat now. Appears to work--although my laptop never see it. But then the device takes control back once the screen goes off.

I froze tether using TB. It first loads with a fail then it connects. Works great for me!

Question, if I freeze the app using TB, doesn't it disappear? Could you explain this a bit more?

U can also just flash an C6603 ftf to ur C6606 and u get the mobile Hotspot since the C6603 is the international version that isn't locked or restricted. U also will have android 4.2.2 as well.

I'm unable to verify as there is no LTE where I am, but I suspect not.
Edit:
This from t-mobile's forums. It's not from an admin or t-mob rep, but I believe it to be accurate.
" The Xperia Z C6603 does not have the correct frequency bands to use T-Mobile's AWS or LTE. That said, if you are in an area where T-Mobile has refarmed their 1900 Mhz (2G) towers to HSPA+ you will be able to get slow 4G."

Nice to know that. Im tempted to flashing it. But was worried about lte. Maybe I give it a shot now.
Sent from my C6606 using xda premium

The hardware doesn't change, but that doesn't mean anything. Without the proper software to utilize the bands, it's moot.
Before I flashed 6603 firmware, my data icon said 4g with a small lte below it. After, there is only a 4g icon. Since there is no LTE in this area yet (although I just read reports that it is) I'm suspect as to what's going on. 5 to 10 mbps down is not 4g LTE . Those are HSPA+ speeds.
If I can find some confirmation from t-mobile that LTE is indeed 'round here then I might do some firmware testing.
Edit:
I stand corrected. According to Sensorly, T-mob rolled out LTE while I was sleeping and flashing 6603 does not affect the Xperia Z's ability to utilize that.

Currently Google cannot legally do an lte update, there was never a FCC filing for lte capabilities.Google will first need to file and then probably do other paper work before nexus can be authorized.

There's nothing for them to do. All you need is .27 or .33 radio and not .48. Also it is not wise to use the unregistered lte device on the network, eventually T-Mobile will boot you off or maybe even blacklist the imei. I would suggest calling T-Mobile and asking for one of the higher reps that can offer some insight.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Yeah didn't think about just changing versions...and as fat as T-Mobile they won't do anything, nor do they really care. My brother in law is a regional supervisor, handles our tristate area for years now. Said their only concern are phones that get bought from T-Mobile with the payment option and then being sold and account closed or suspended. They will and have been actively banning for them.

I don't see why you want LTE on the N4...it will cause your battery to drop ridiculously fast as it doesn't have a certain "amplifier" needed for LTE to function properly. I believe I read that on anandtech. I'll try to find the link and share.

Since you flashed an LTE rom, the build prop of that rom is most likely to say C6603.
Look at the printed letters at the botton of your device, above the barcode, there should say the actual model number of your device.
There are no work arounds for c6602, even if you flash a c6603 ftf file, it wouldn't give you LTE capabilities.
If you really want LTE you need to purchase the c6603. Make sure it supports your carrier's LTE network frequencies.

Also even if it was possible, you need that your provider give you a 4G access and a 4G package, you're ****ed anyway, your phone doesn't handle the 4G, i'm sorry for you.
Keep in mind that only few people have actually the 4G access, the deployment is in progress in many countries and many towns and for many providers.

[Q] Data not working, because of root?

Hey guys,
Did anyone of you have your LTE not working because of root?
Seems like mine isn't working at all, I have a C5303 on .257 FW rooted.
Now, I don't know if it is the SIM's problem or something to do with APNs, but in theory, will rooting my phone with the above specs ruin my mobile network? Did anyone face this before?
Thanks!

Well the xperia z is actually the C6603 and the non lte version is C6602. Anyway. Wifi calling it could be that this is a t mobile software related thing or u might be able to download it from the app store. Lte should work but I can't fully guarantee it. Since since 3 or out of 6 lte bands are supported on the Europe's version.

What? The OP is asking about the C6606. It doesn't matter which model you or I have or whether the LTE on the C6603 works in the US, as that has no bearing on the question at hand.

It's not "pissy" to point out misinformation. This is not a social hangout. It's a development site. If you don't know the answer to something then don't post.
The whole first page of this thread is filled with you posting about things you don't know about and me correcting you (apart from the useful post by G1_enthusiast). That is not being helpful. It just wastes people's time.

Probably a silly question to those familiar with the Z but is the 6603 the same as the 6606 (apart from all the tmobile crap loaded on it and the logo on the back)?
I'm already on tmobile with an xperia p and I'm looking at buying a Z, I can get a factory unlocked 6603 on amazon or I can buy a 6606 on the sony site.
Would I have access to tmobile LTE with the 6603?
Thanks in advance.
If you do not get the C6606 you will not have WiFi calling. That is a software specific feature for T-Mobile.
Even installing the .67 C6603 firmware/software on my C6606 removed WiFi calling as an option.
As for LTE I am uncertain. Spec wise it looks like you are covered. But I did not flash the baseband when I flashed my phone. So the modem is still from the C6606 and LTE is working. The only thing is that it shows 4G in the status bar rather than LTE.

Thanks for the info, leaning towards the 6606 now. Out of interest what was your reason for going to the 6603 firmware?

I wanted to move to 4.2.2. There are some performance/lag issues with 4.1.x on the XZ. Also wanted to get on an international generic firmware so I would get updates quicker from Sony.
Plus I just like to tinker.

Help with getting kit Kat LB roms working on my C6606

I have had trouble getting any of the roms here going on my phone. Coming from a long line of evos and galaxy's I am no stranger to rooting and modifying. What the hell, at least I am rooted and Happy with the nova launcher, almost good as a Rom.
Now I see kit kat is out for locked bootloader phones. Is there anyone that doesn't mind running down how to upgrade a c6606 phone without any surprises?

As far as exact process I would be interested in that too.
As for availability, either grab the ftf fir your region or wait for a rooted flashable Rom.
As far as the rest goes, t mo has been pushing app updates so we may get something.

I'm also curious, if I follow the directions in either of those threads will T-mobile LTE still work? That's the only problem I could see occurring since the c6603 and c6606 are almost identical aside from the radio bands. If anyone has already tried it please let us know, thanks.
It should work. I just flashed 4.4 earlier today on my c6606. Works fine. No longer says 4G but instead says H+. If anything you can keep the TMo baseband when you flash the kernel.

Go to settings>more>network mode select lte option.
it will display the relevant logo where you have 4g coverage
think you have wcdma option enabled
I did that as soon as I flashed the ROM. I have LTE set as preferred. I get either R for roaming, 2G, 3G or H+.

H+ is HSPA+ not 4G
Guess the place you are residing has 4G signal issues
Correct, the signal here is kinda funny. I get 4G but not 4G LTE here.

I ended up installing the update coming from the latest T-mobile firmware and excluding the baseband when flashing the tft file. Everything seems to be fine for me, I still get LTE speed only now the icon shows up as "4g" rather than "LTE" but that's fine. Out of curiosity does anyone here use the T-mobile Isis app and if so do you know how I can get it to recognize the phone as the T-mobile variant thus allowing me to use the app? I've tried replacing all instances of "c6603" with "c6606" in the build.prop to make it match the what was there in the original firmware, but I've had no luck.
