You can't without a pc..
How do you install it?
Using fast boot. There's a guide for that somewhere on the internet. All you have to do is search.
Any1 can make a flashable zip? For those of us who aren't near a computer right now and wanna flash it right now. Thanks in advance.

I find it interesting they don't have the JOP40D 4.2.1 image out there anymore but they still have the JZO54K build. I wonder why.
The OTA update came already, but failed due to something changed in build.prop, but have no idea what. GRRRR...
I'm annoyed. I am stuck on JOP40D ... the flashable zip of JDQ39 continues to fail...I don't know what's not stock in my build.prop. I think I'm going to have to do a full wipe and re-install stock ROM image before I can upgrade to 4.3
Might just wait for a flashable zip because I'm lazy that way
IM trying to root it now

Anyone wanting to install this without knowledge of ADB or Fastboot; Assuming your device is Unlocked
THIS WILL WIPE YOUR DATA, BACK UP YOUR DATA FIRST.
1. Download Nexus Toolkit Here ---> http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Galaxy-Nexus-Root-Toolkit-Download-213077.html
2. Configure it, install drivers, test drivers under "initial setup"
3. Download the 4.3 image here ----> https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#nakasi
4. In Nexus Toolkit under "Flash Stock + Unroot" tick "Device is on/Normal"
5. Pick "OK"
6. Tick "Other/Browse"
7. Under Choice; Tick "I downloaded a factory image myself that i would like to use instead."
8. Pick "OK"
9. Browse for your TGZ file you downloaded off the Google site in my case i have the Nexus 7 Wi-Fi 32GB so my file
name is "nakasi-jwr66v-factory-d341d356.tgz"
10. Go to the Developer website and copy the md5 hash listed under the 4.3 section.
11. Let it do its thing
12. wait 5 - 10 minutes after flash to let it boot. takes a bit.
How i got root: Keep in mind this is a very silly workaround. (keep in mind this is a very early workaround, and expect problems during the process)
I wouldn't attempt this if you don't know what you are doing. I am not responsible if you break something.
1. Download this file and put it on the device first http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43909148&postcount=3070
2. In Nexus Toolkit Use the Root function, tick "install custom recovery" (this is how you will get recovery) TWRP
3. Let it do its thing fallowing all the instructions, if you are boot looping on a step, disconnect the device and hard reboot by holding the power button. The SuperSU that the toolkit installs doesn't work, this will work after using the zip we are about to flash.
4. Once completed, boot into recovery and flash "SuperSU-JWR66N-S005-130625-1.41.zip"
5. Reboot (Cwm users, you need to uncheck the option to "disable stock recovery flash", if it shows up.,)
6. Voila, Root and Custom recovery.

Hi guys,
Android version 4.2.2 via OTA has been released. For folks like me who have not yet got it and are impatient here you go-
1.Upgrade Nexus 7 to 4.2.1 first [necessary].
2.Get the zip for 4.2.2 here.
Download
3.Boot Nexus 7 into bootloader.
[Power button + center of both volume buttons/volume down]
4.Select Recovery using volume up/down buttons.
5.Press Power button.
6.Wait till you get an android with a red exclamation.
7.Press power + volume up or any other combination till you get a menu.
8.Select update from ADB.
9.Open the folder where the downloaded zip is in the computer.
10.Right click with shift pressed and select open command window here.
11.Type without quotes "adb sideload 6ece895ecb23.signed-nakasi-JDQ39-from-JOP40D.6ece895e.zip"
12.The nexus will flash it.
13.When it is complete wipe cache and dalvik.
14.Reboot and enjoy.
15.Hit thanks.
If you really cant get it to work download 4.2.1 Stock Rom and extract system.img from the zip inside the .gz.
If it still gives an error flash the complete 4.2.1 stock rom.

Remember to just backup ur data first just in case.
I installed TWRP after the last update and now I can't seem to boot into it to flash 4.2.2. I hold the buttons and get into the boot menu, select recovery and ok, but then it gives message "No Command". Any ideas on how to get back to TWRP or reinstall TWRP to be able to flash?

I am attaching the stock recovery for 4.2.1. You can flash it using "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" after installing it upgrade to 4.2.2 and then reflash TWRP.
Or you can use the Nexus Root Toolkit to do it automatically.:good::good::good::good:
Thanks for this - I can't get past step 6. I can get to the android with the red exclamation but no matter what I do next I just get a black screen.
What am I doing wrong?
Here is another way:
Stock rom, rooted, cwm recovery, supersu, ota rootkeeper. I downloaded the update to my pc and copied it to the N7 internal memory. Booted into cwm recovery, chose to 'install zip from sdcard', 'choose zip from sdcard', '0/', (selected the update), update. After the update finished and I chose to restart and said 'Yes' to disable flashing stock recovery (thus keeping cwm), then said 'Yes' to restoring root. After bootup, and the upgrading android process, I have root and cwm recovery.
I don't think you get the options to disable flashing stock recovery and keeping root if you don't have ota rootkeeper and maybe supersu. Superuser may work the same. The update seems good and fast. I wasn't having any problems before, so I don't know exactly what changed. All in all the manual update worked out well for me.

The order is -
First press the power button and then the volume up button. If this does not work try volume down but remember power button first.
If all fails try the steps by Groid.
Once I get to the "red exclamation" it shows "no command", if I hold power then up it reboots into what I understand is APX mode (APX device shows up in device manager)? If I hold power then down it reboots back into recovery mode. I'm new to the Nexus 7/Android, the device is stock with 4.2.1.

hi all
when i flash the zip file to upgrade to 4.2.2 i've got error7
assert failed: apply_path_check ("/system/vendor/lib/hw/power.grouper.so
i've tried to put the original file from the factory image but no working the permission i've set is rw-r-r what is wrong ?
my bootloader is on the 4.13 version
and using TWRP
tanks all
EDIT: i've found a tool to extract the file from factory image and chmod 755 and is okay
ok so this is a weird one.
i am stock 4.2.1, rooted, stock recovery and had Beats audio installer from the play store installed and that was it.
i found the script from the beats audio thread that removes the files and then i uninstalled.
then I unrooted, copied the new ZIP ffile over to my internal SD card and temp booted into TWRP and flashed it.
it came back and said assertion error
and the file it failed on is:
/system/lib/SR_AudioIn.SO
i was missing this file (not sure why)
went to my Nexus 4 and found that file and copied it into dropbox and then coped it into my system folder and set the proper permissions on it and rebooted.
tried to flash again and iot keeps failing on this file even though it is present and set properly.
is it possible this file is different for the N4 than the N7 and i need the N7 specific one?

supposedly if it assert fails that means either its missing or its damaged/modified.
you would want to use Root Explorer if you are rooted and browse out to /system/app and see if it exists and if not then replace it, set permissions and reboot and try again to flash.

if yours exists then i guess you are in the same boat as me where mine says another file doesn't pass yet it exists.
im waiting to find out what to do on that one as well.
if you have the entire stock rom then you would extract the contents of that rom and then extract just the file and push it to your device either with ADB or root explorer copy/paste.
My Nexus 7 [WiFi] was rooted on 4.2.2, unlocked bootloader, but stock rom, stock system (as far as I remember). I couldn't find a walkthrough so I'll make one with my experience.
I found a walkthrough for Nexus 4, so minus the download packages and the radio img it was the same. This worked for me on my mac, I hope this helps you.
In the end I didn't lose any data, still have unlocked bootloader and rooted with CWM Touch Recovery & SuperSU (you can replace with TWRP)
Directions ("XXX/" = file path to platform-tools folder)
1. You must have Android SDK installed. Download it here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html.
2. UNZIP and you will see a bunch of folders. The one we are interested in is the subfolder "platform-tools". You may copy it to an easier location if you want.
3. Download the factory image 4.3 for your Nexus 7: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#nakasi (WARNING: Download the correct image for YOUR device, Nexus 7 WiFi vs Mobile)
4. Unzip the 4.3 image file you downloaded and copy all its content to your "platform-tools" folder (where adb and fastboot are).
5. Plug your Nexus 7 into your computer with USB debugging (activate it in "About Phone" and touch "Build number" 6 times, it will activate a "Developer Options" menu where you will be able to activate "USB debugging")
6. Verify ADB is working. Open a terminal and type "XXX/adb devices"
7. Reboot your device into fastboot mode: type in terminal "XXX/adb reboot-bootloader"
8. Type:
"XXX/fastboot flash bootloader XXX/bootloader-grouper-4.23.img" (img name depends on your build)
9. If you have "WiFi Only" skip to step 10; for Mobile/GSM flash radio type:
"XXX/fastboot reboot-bootloader"
"XXX/fastboot flash radio XXX/radio-tilapia-1231_0.18.0_0409.img" (img name depends on your build)
10. Type:
"XXX/fastboot reboot-bootloader"
"XXX/fastboot update XXX/image-nakasi-jwr66v.zip" (zip name depends on your build)
It will then reboot (takes a while) and then you will be in Android 4.3 with all your data preserved.
Then if you want to root:
1. On your computer, download CWM or TWRP recovery from here: CWM Dwnld or TWRP Dwnld (WARNING: Download the correct image for YOUR device, Nexus 7 WiFi vs Mobile)
2. Place the image file you downloaded in your "platform-tools" folder (where adb and fastboot are).
3. Connect your Nexus 7 (debug mode) and put it in fastboot mode (step 7 above)
4. In the terminal type: "XXX/fastboot flash recovery XXX/FILENAME.img (replace FILENAME by the file name of the CWM/TWRP file you just downloaded)
5. Reboot your device
6. Download directly to your device the most recent SuperSU file: http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
7. Shut down your device and boot it into recovery mode (Once off, push vol- and power together). Choose recovery mode with vol-, then power to select
8. Once you are in recovery mode select "Install ZIP", look for SuperSU file you just downloaded and follow instructions to flash the zip file.
9. Reboot your device
That's it!
Thanks to jipi: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2377691
Already updated to 4.3 and have an OTA notificaion? (JWR66Y from JWR66V)
Here is the easy, no-nonsense way of installing the OTA on Nexus 7, no PC or cables needed.
NOTE: This will ONLY work on totally stock but rooted. If you changed anything else at all, then you will need to load stock to get the OTA patch to work.
1. Download the OTA file to your device. You can find a link in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745781 (WARNING: Download the correct image for YOUR device, Nexus 7 WiFi vs Mobile)
2. Download directly to your device the most recent SuperSU file: http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
3. Open the SuperSU app and select Full Unroot.
4. Shut down your device and boot it into recovery mode (Once off, push vol- and power together). Choose recovery mode with vol-, then power to select.
5. Once you are in recovery mode select "Install ZIP", look for OTA file you just downloaded and follow instructions to flash the zip file.
6. WITHOUT rebooting, install the SuperSU file again using "Install ZIP".
7. Reboot your device
(8/24/13) Update: Added directions to updating to the latest build, avoiding the OTA and loosing root.
(8/15/13) Update: Updated link to factory image to better show options for download, was going straight to the 4.3 WiFi link. Added a warning to the factory image and CWM/TWRP download links, to verify you are downloading the image for YOUR device. Good luck and happy flashing.
Thanks dude! This helped

These instructions worked perfectly. The only minor complication was downloading the necessary drivers - but once they were installed, your directions worked perfectly. Thanks so much.
I had my n7 rooted before the update, but did not have the bootloader unlocked. If I use these instructions can I just root the device and not change the way it is running? When I rooted it did not make any changes. I just don't want to have a factory reset done.
Worked like a charm, Thanks

No, this is method works only with an unlocked bootloader. Either wait for the OTA update (which hopefully still works for you ...) or you need to unlock your bootloader which will imply a factory reset.

Mine took about 5, maybe ten minutes from the last .ZIP flash to being up and running.
This is very much the same method I used to update, and it worked great. (I actually copied flash-all.sh to flash-some.sh, commented out all the 'fastboot erase' lines that affected anything I cared about, and changed the 'fastboot update -w' to just 'fastboot update', but overall, very nearly the same thing). Anyone wanting a smooth upgrade path should follow ShadowOf's instructions above.
Hei man, thanks, it took 30 minutes and everything worked as a charm.
I had this error on the nexus 7, "signature mismatch", when i'm at step 8.
on the command prompt, i got the following:
sending 'bootloader' (1280 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.206s]
writing 'bootloader'...
FAILED (remote: (InvalidState))
finished. total time: 0.305s
My n7 is rooted, boot unlocked and on stock rom.
Can any one help me?
Thank you!
Thanks so much for putting together this process in a nice, straightforward and easy-to follow method. It worked like a charm! :good:
Works perfectly for me. Thanks!
@ShadowOf: Thank you very much for this guide. All went ok.

Of course I didn't do the OTA....but from what I read best case scenario is OTA runs smoothly and you lose root.
Worst case scenario you OTA, it locks up at some point because you've change a system file and you are stuck with a non-booting device. Which you can hopefully then flash to stock 4.3 (hopefully).
Again from what I've read going from 4.2/4.2.2 to 4.3 via OTA you will lose root.
Can anyone confirm this method from 4.2 (not 4.2.2) to 4.3? G/L
Worked perfectly thanks
Very Nice!

Thanks akash4357, appreciate your efforts however I have a couple questions though.
6. when you wrote "search for the previously downloaded file", do you mean I should install the .zip file from SD card?
9. How can you flash the recovery if you will not have root access? Or recovery can still be installed with out root?

Here you go Boss, this is the one i am using, just made a thread about it. Not sure which Recovery is being used in the instructions on this thread however.

for number 6, he means to flash the file you have downloaded on step 4. for number 9, you already have root access on that point given that you have followed all preceding instructions. The file you flashed on step 6 is the pre-rooted system partition of the 244 firmware, that is why on step 8 he indicated that you should not include flashing of the system part.
offtopic: now that there is a root method for xperia ZR, I will be buying it in the coming weeks. =))
Now it all seems to work fine so far. But what still hold me back is the pre-rooted zip file with the system partition from an unknown source. I always run custom ROM on my Android phones but usually they're from the developer directly. Flashing zip files downloaded from these Russian websites seem a bit risky. Anyone knows more about the source of it?

Seems like I'm also going to flash it soon. Thanks!
I can confirm the method working.
@akash4357 I took the liberty of adding a few more links and words to your description.
I also don't get the reboots I had on the .310 rom with SuperSU while deleting System apps using Titanium Backup.
request :/
can you guys make a flashable rooted zip of the 4.2.2 firmware please? i was deleting some bloatware and looks like i did something wrong and got a bootloop for some reason. Now i had to wipe data and everything, even the internal storage was formatted when wiping data!!! Reinstall the firmware and lost root, so ill have to do it all over again for the love of god, please!:crying:

The file zr244-system-supersu.zip is already a flashable zip of system partition with busybox, su and Superuser.apk. So you might find your missing files there or flash it for the whole system partition.
also..

Thanks for the edit! You saved me some time.
Are you by any chance planning any ROM development for the ZR?
Just followed the instructions and upgraded to 4.2.2 with root. Data is preserved and so far everything seems fine. Finally see lockscreen widgets again!
is anyone able to get into recovery? pressing up or down during the green light doesnt do anything. the only way i can access recovery is to reflash it every time.
Hi
I rooted my phone after the previous large update and now the one is out to finally fix the google keyboard, unfortunately I haven't a clue in how about going around updating it.
If anyone could link me somewhere explaining or tell me it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
I don't have enough knowledge to tell you step by step but here's a sticky thread for noob questions

Do you have the international HTC One? Are you on 2.24.401.1? you will have to flash the stock recovery then install the missing apps that were lost during the wipe after unlocking the bootloader (such as the calculator, voice recorder etc) and then do the OTA update, I can give you a step by step guide if you answer the above questions

Okay lets start!
1) Download this file http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/HTCOne/root/HTCOneRoot.zip (you should already have this for unlocking the bootloader but just to make sure!)
2) Download the recovery https://cloudpt.pt/link/1a23ccce-547e-4b3c-a38c-4a798c462aff/Flash_recovery_2.24.401.1.rar
3) Download these files https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BzXWB5B2uUs7R2hjQnN3NFFNNVk/edit
4) Extract the zip file you downloaded in step 3 (if it needs extraction) and copy all the apk's to your phone and install all of them.
5) Extract the zip file you downloaded in step 1 and you will get a folder that contains HTCDriver_4.1.0.001.exe (it should already be installed because your rooted your htc one but if its not --> install it).
6) Extract the file you downloaded in step 2, you will get a folder named fastboot, enter this folder and copy recovery.img to the previously extracted folder in step 5.
7) Turn your phone off and boot into the bootloader (power button + volume down) then select fastboot and connect your phone to your computer.
8) Open the previously extracted folder (in step 5) that contains the recovery.img and press and hold shift and while holding shift, press right click on your mouse and select "open command window here".
9) Type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" without the quotes and now you should have the stock recovery.
10) Bootup your phone install the OTA update and it should install successfully and after it finishes you can flash TWRP or CWM using the same method above.
***This is assuming you have the stock odexed ROM, if you have installed a custom ROM, download the stock ROM and install it using your current recovery before proceeding with the above instructions.
And sorry because its a really long post

Well there is but the rom is just a small part of an update, there is the radio, hboot, recovery etc.. if you just flash the rom your not updating the other stuff but if you do the ota you will update all of these, but since this is a minor update, I dont think these got updated so you can flash the rom for now and when the 4.3 update rolls out you can do the above method to get everything updated!

i thinks i updated to "G935TUVS8CRJ1" can i be flash on it?
Quick question. I just used this method to root my phone (v4 bootloader, CRI2 firmware if I'm reading it right). I had been looking at the post [Rom][ALL+CARRIERS_CRF1][Stock_Oreo_Hybrid][Safestrap_Preinstalled]. That one seemed like a good deal because of the followup post on Safestrap flashable zips, like Xposed framework, Extreme Debloater, Dual Speaker, etc....
I didn't consider that ROM because of the big warning Must Be On Stock CRF1, whereas I'm on CRI2 and this looked nicer anyway.
So, just to be sure I understand, now that I've used this method to root my phone I can install all those things and more by using this technique to get into TWRP on my phone. Correct? Further, I can use TWRP in this way to flash anything except a custom bootloader. Yes?
More specifically, all those ROMs listed over in the general Tools Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other Development forum that say "for G9350 only", I can use this TWRP to flash those on my G935T ?? Is that right?

Should have been aware of what you are flashing a bootloader update is always an attempt to patch something. Usually root related. It is never to benefit the user. The first indication to me would have been a 4 version jump in bootloader versions all in one shot. I warned people all along that a bootloader change would come one of these days and kill root. Sprint seen it months ago. Tmobile and Sprint can now have there cozy little relationship with one another. I feel bad for you tmobile people. Remember when tmobile was the friendly carrier in the dev community along with sprint as well now they are the most unfriendly carrier in the dev community.

No, if your build number indicates that you're on the v8 bootloader, you're screwed for now. If you like the S7's features, you can grab an Exynos. Those you can root and modify to your heart's content. Plenty of custom ROMs available. It's not too expensive either. It's what I'm going to upgrade to, since I'm tired of this bull with the bootloader, and my glass is cracked anyway. Would probably cost nearly as much to repair as to just buy an Exynos.

That's a false positive by a single antivirus program. VirusTotal gives it clean on 54 out of 56 antivirus programs, and one of those is merely "suspicious," probably because it's a rooting tool.
