Hi, I have problem with my battery life, I've bought new samsung s3 mini and got it with android 4.1.2 but battery life is pretty low, it can't last for 24 hours, can I do something to extend my battery life ? I text few sms messages, talk about 15 minutes, wifi is almost always on, screen brightness is set to minimum when ever I can do it, check little bit news over opera browser (maybe 15 minutes of use per day), also make few call over viber (about 10 minutes per day).
I've read that update samsung firmware via kies can help improve battery life, what should I do ?
p.s. my phone is not rooted if that is impormant, also I am neewbie
Thanks for help in advance
factory reset from settings fixed my AndroidOS draining, had to install apps and **** again but its not so bad.

I'll try that tommorow, yes apps need to be installed again (my phone is 7 days ''old'' so I don't have so many apps)
p.s. did you installed all same apps and games ? I am asking this because maybe some app or game that you had previously installed was making android OS draining battery

if androidOS is draining then it is not your personal apps, its the android system, reset should solve that. disable syncing and 3g when not using.
Root it then download setcpu or free equivalent from play store. Set max CPU to 800.
Install crossbreeder tweaks.
All info is available just search.
Battery life will improve.

yesterday installed app called better battery stats so I'll try this app for 2-3 days so I can get info what process is making problem, and then do factory reset, if that doesn't solve my problem maybe to change stock rom with one that kernel is XXAMD3 (will I loose warranty if I do that?)
p.s. do i loose warranty if I do root ?

Yes, betterbatterystats the best way to narrow down whats causing the drain before you decide to wipe everything.
You'll lose warranty while you are rooted, but you can always go back to stock, and no one will ever notice
Only problem is if something gets damaged so bad you cant use odin to flash. Then you might have problems
to restore it to default state before service.
See my former post, hopefully it can help you, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41741957#post41741957

I'll try it all, just need some time to experiment, I'll post my opinion and results
p.s. I disabled this:
s-voice
active aplications
bh telekom (some app from my network provider)
game hub
samsung account
sns
software update
also all the time I am on 2G, wifi is almost all the time on, brightness is set low as it can be, power saving mode is on, now I turn of vibration for calls, etc
for me, the battery drainer was the Dropbox app(maybe i didnt set it right)....anyways,it wasnt showing that it was the Dropbox draining..i mean after i installed that app my Android OS went over 50% usage while it used to be below 20% on those battery charts...
anyways after i uninstalled it,everything went back to normal, getting easily 1 day heavy usage(gaming included), or at least 2 days of medium usage( just regular calls and text and some viber over wifi)
so, from my experiance so far(have the phone over 6 months now), i recommend you to try to remember which apps you installed last and uninstall them...restart the phone and see if that works b4 you go to factory resets and all that stuff....cheers
since I installed task killer and set it to crazy mode (killing apps every 30 minutes), and disabling many apps to get notifications (list of apps is 2 post above) my battery with medium use endurance is better, it last more then 24 hours but I think that battery could last for 2 days with this kind of use. here is photo from betterbatterystats, is anything unusual ?
p.s. next testing step is to do factory reset or install some other kernel version

task managers drain more battery imo because they wake up the phone every time and kill apps in the background that will just restart again because they are set to run in the background, android automatically kills tasks that you ran earlier after an amount of time, anyway more info here

Install Juice Defender, the free version can solve your problem, increasing 60% the battery life.
Set aggressive profile.
I'm using JD on S3 Mini and Note 2.
tnx, I'll try this app also,

did you feel the change of battery life on that ROM AMG1 ? did you use some other ROM on 4.1.2 before that ?

the difference is visible with any type of ROM.
I'm using the last from SamMobile since the first day with my devices...
I've tried also the AMG1 Rom, but i didn't see any difference btw. this and other roms.
I've also tried to use a unrooted rom and there is also a massive battery drain.
now i've ordered a new battery. perhapes it lasts longer.

I do not have this problem, but I use a PL ROM from T-Mobile - AMB2.

Hi,
im having battery drain problems the phone wont last more than 5-6 hours send 20-30 texts listen to some music, i have turned off backgroud data and live wallpapers, im using something called advanced task killer free to kill the apps that are running, but i close them the re open the task bar and stuff like music player has reopened
ive also seen a post about which batterys are better is there a better one i can buy? my batterys a G7
any ideas ?

Stop using the task kiler and you'll probably see better battery life. Task killers have been proven more harmful than helpful on the newer versions of android so using it is pointless. Also pay attention to what you have synced and how often. tons of web apps synching will drain the battery faster, as will having the gps and wifi turned on--if you're not using them, disable them.
thanks for the reply i will remove the task manager,
auto sync is turned off and i only use email by refreshing the inbox
Come here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884816
In short: Have you recently updated via Kies to JPY version? If so, stop using your wifi. There is a bug with wifi with this newest firmware.
hi,
i update to 2.2.1 through kies
Do you use wifi?
If yes, switch to data, battery life will be better. You should be able to get around 48h of light active usage (i mean browsing and calling and what not) with 3g data on.
i dont really use the wifi, signals really good around me, i only got the phone friday, brought it of a friend,
charged the phone fully before i went out last night about 7pm by 1.30am the phone had cut off, that was only using the facebook andriod app and sending text messages.
Than there is something terribly wrong. Do a wipe and factory reset, if you didnt after getting a device from your friend.. It seems that some application misbehaves and drains battery.
You can check it by typing *#*#info#*#* in dialer
Several options there, if there is something strange you will see it. (suggest looking into Battery history, usage statistics)
i dont know how to type in dialer sorry sounds very stupid all i have are digits

About my battery life:
Previously I was on Darky's v5, with that the phone lasted 2-3 days with normal usage.
After flashing to v7 (with 100% battery) I also got the fast drainage problem. Here is what I did:
1) Turn OFF phone
2) Charge till it says it is FULL
3) Start in RECOVERY
4) WIPE battery stats
5) RESTART android (yes, it might already be on 98% or so)
6) USE phone heavily. Don't worry if it drops too fast. Use it till the Android system turns OFF automatically (it happens when your battery is below 1% - for me the phone was on 1% for about 40 mins. This is where it heavily myscalculated
7) PLUG IN your charger, TURN ON android and wait till it is FULLY charged again. (It is better if you don't use the phone at this charging up)
Now, after you disconnect the charger, you should still have 100% for some time (I've been using the phone for 32 mins - writing this post - and it is still on a hundred percent) and with this, I got back the 2-3 days battery life with normal usage.
Also, you should set WiFi to: "Never when plugged in" and by default I disable Data Network. But my phone is using WiFi all the time so it doesn't really matter
So to summerize this method, the key is to show the phone the battery's minimal capacity too, by using it till it is on null. Because with charging to 100% than wiping or flashing only introduces the maximum capacity to the system and the minimum is only guessed. THIS gives the faulty reportes and makes us think the phone drains too fast.
Try this method, than feel free to share your results

3g was on
gmail on sync
skype on sync
5-10 min of skype calling
5 min of normal calling
5-10 min of facebook browsing through android app
30 min of chatting on skype
at 2PM the fone was at 20% battery. My wifi and gps were off all day.
is there anything i can do to get atleast 15 hours of battery with normal use
regards
harris
If you are having issues with your battery, before you try killing tasks, changing setting and what not and especially if you are running custom ROMs, then you need to recondition your battery. The same goes for anyone who is having high drain issues.
If you follow the steps I posted from someone else's post and then find that your battery is not having issues, then start looking at your modem (if using a custom ROM or you've upgraded to new firmware).
ive done a factory restore, ive found what my usage says idle 4% the display 80%
contrast is switched right down
i know im not using any custom roms im using the firmware that you download through kies

Hi,
What is your battery life on the Note? Does it last a day even two?. If it does, then that is pretty much normal. You whine on a phone that you just use for only 2 days? Stop whining and complaining. You havent have had utilize the full charge and recharge cycles of your battery and now your whining already.. Man, give your Note a week or two and your battery life will be okay.
Hmm.. Is this the first time you use an android device? What phone where you using.before? If you we're using a non android device e.g. Symbian or etc. Then my reaction to your complains (of your Note) is justifiable. Symbian for the fact has always been known to be very good or decent in terms of battery life.
Now android OS, is known throughout (irregardless what smartphone/tablet you have) to have the AOS bug. It is a bug where there's some sort of a battery leak and hencefort most android users tend to root their phones so that they can stop background stock applications from running in the background. The births of custom ROMS and Kernels have given some tremendous wonders also especially on phone's UI and more so on battery management.
Again. Stop complaining and go down root your phone and install battery saving apps or custom ROMs. It's all over the thread anyway.
The sooner you customise your phone to your heart's content, the better you can appreciate it's full potentials.
Cheers!!!

My battery life is 5 - 6 hours. I am accept 12 hours. I wish it last 12 hours. Before I used Iphone4, it is not so long for battery life , however it is acceptable. I did not understand how notes's battery life so short.
Moreover I can not use custom rom. because they r not good as well as stock rom. ALl of them have some problems. But I can change my kernel.
to get battery life you either
a) dont use your phone or
b) get information to use your phone more wisely
So..
a) download a battery monitor.. there are a bunch recommended..
b) read the other 200 threads on battery life and dont start another one. Each and every question has been asked and answered ad nauseum
while you are figuring out root, and task killers, here are a few easy tips to help..particularly when you are putting the phone down for a while
apps>task manager>active apps> CLOSE ALL
apps>task manager> RAM> CLEAR MEMORY
settings>applications>running services> review and shut down apps/games that may be running in background (and that are not critical)
Again.... RESEARCH the forum.. the answers are already here. and you should read and post in existing threads

You could also have a defective battery.
On my iPhone 4, my first of 4 that were faulty, battery life depleted in less than 12 hours of STANDBY only on wifi, nothing syncing. Only being on. Battery life was so bad.
It's not uncommon to get a dud battery sometimes.
Try doing a complete restore, stock EVERYTHING, don't push anything (except email, cal, and contacts, you know, the basics) and see if you're having the same results. If on a fresh, stock, install you're having the same issues, then you've got a defective unit and/or battery.
Hope I've helped.

There are quite decent custom roms for the Note. I have tried many gingerbread versions (Chracks, rocketrom, cassies etc) currently on chrack's v18 small (LC1) with speedmod latest kernel.
I have not faced performance issues on this. But each user is different so u r the boss.
Best give the custom kernels a try for now. If u find the battery life better then ur problem is solved. The advantage of custom rom is that so much useless bloatware in the stock is removed for better space mgt & performance.
have provided some tips in the following link, feel free to go thru.

dude, you are ridiculing some of the well known devs who have made custom ROMS for all to appreciate and use. IF there was and is a problem on a particular custom ROM, it is or might be cause indirectly on the user itself, on what apps he/she insatalled on his phone. Surely you cannot generalize all custom ROMS have problems do you? if all have problems, the devs have some new revisions to fix those bugs and in no time at all your Note would be in tip-top shape again.
If as what you say, Custom Roms have problems.... then why the heck most people I know have used them and have big wide grin on their face to show off what they have and even posting a copy of their latest ROM pictures here... not to mentioned in YouTube as well.
ok. Which rom is the best stable than ? Which I should use ?
go read the threads on battery performance.. loading a new ROM will not fix problems if you do not know what you are doing.

Hi there.
I had the same issues but only after the update done on ICS.
I have over 140 different application and nearly all of them have been purchased.
What happens is that, when you are not using your phone it should go to "deep sleep". This allows your phone not to run any application and merely use any battery. Your problem probably come from somewhere in your setting an automatic update. That drains a lot....
I downloaded different application hoping that it would work out such as Juice Defender, watch dog and many others. After lots of research, I found out that it is not good for your phone to have an auto killer app or even an application that modifies the functions of other applications.
So I downloaded battery spy and cpu spy on "google play" and followed the instructions.
I needed a deeper analytic application "Kernel" and this was THE application that allowed my phone to go from 6-8 hour to 28 hours.
"Better battery stats", it's not free but was really worth the spending.
Google play chronological download
1) watch dog
2) battery spy
3) cpu spy
4) better battery stats
Good luck
I keep switching my cellphone off while not using, and same goes for wifi. Using it as a secondary phone as well. It lasts only 4-6 hours.. :S I keep closing background apps, and kill app once im done with it..
Also be aware that in areas with bad network strenght, the GNote really suffers.
I normally have no complains (0,6-1,5% battery usage per hour) but where I am now, the GNote really works hard to keep the connection and my consumption easily goes to 4-6% in deep sleep and 15-20% when using it...

If you like stock samsung looks try CleaNote 3.10 , very good n battery life , I get around one day backup with heavy usage and 2 days plus with moderate usage .
If like pure google , then try cm9 , very stable and quite good on battery back up .
And if you dont use 3g or 3.5 g or any such networks then select GSM only or use 2g networks only ( Settings -> under wireless and connectivity , More -> Mobile Networks )
Also keep your display brightness to minimum , control the brightness manually instead of auto brightness .
Turn off auto sync ( big advantage over battery ) .
Scan for running apps and cached apps and force stop the ones which you dont use .
Use titanium back up and freeze some of the bloatwares ( stock samsung apps ) or uninstall them , like readers hub , mydiary , they are **** .
And dont use task killers , they drain your battery . they may clear rom but some apps restart automatically and that needs more juice than running those apps . Hope all these suggestions help . From my experience with this phone

You need to purchase and install "better battery stats" and also install cpu spy (I'm assuming you're rooted) and use them to monitor your phone and battery in order to solve your issue. Google both and you'll find several good threads on xda about using and interpreting these apps, but if you get stuck post some screen shots from both and someone here can almost certainly help. There are a number of potential sources of such problems, generally rogue apps, and also a bug or two, but it is impossible to offer help without the details these apps would provide.

Thanks for that, i will install it. By the way i got the "battery widget" installed, which has gained popularity on the market.
Also im only using 9% of brightness of my phone.
I'm using a rooted stock 4.0.3 and I'm finding battery life its pretty good - better than unrooted GB was in fact. Simply freezing bloatware via titanium and limiting sync on some (not all) apps and services makes a gigantic difference. Design your phone around your own needs and you'll end up with an amazing device that you'll fall in love with all over again.

Hi Guys,
I just want to share my idea to improve the battery life, I tried to test it already:
I did flash factory reset from 10E firmware and flashed 10H, then rooted(of course no problem with 10H firmware)
again factory reset, charge the 4X HD to 100%, install "Battery Calibration" it is free, calibrate your battery after 100% charging
After that I installed other than stock " Ram Manager Pro" it is not free, you need to buy from Google Play, set RAM to "Balance" for everyday use
create Swap file to your choice, but I kept 128MB, then VM Heap size set as per your choice, I set to 256mb, then tick "set on boot"
After reboot i installed "Root cleaner", you need buy from Google play, do "Quick cleaning" after cleaning, it is finished.
Whole night just dropped only 3% of battery life, i am using for every day use, no games, no other software install, keep stock.
I tired to flash 10E,10F and finally 10H showing good result, improved camera.

How is your configuration in GearBox ? 22H on light use ?? OMG
I need it!
I'm on 10f and i uninstalled stock bloatware (polaris office, lgworld....etc)
with stock apps apk disabled:
application manger
calendar widget
chrome
email widget
face unlock
favorite contacts widget

google+

Installed lg gearbox: 2cores and 1000GHz and i have 0% loss during night!
I also get feeling that disabling some apk's ( like Maps or cell broadcast) can cause deep sleep problems (searching networks etc).
Also i found on two phones that when i root phone and freeze apks my phone somehow just drains battery during night... (from 100% to 20% !!!!!)
So mentioned method works for me and i don't want to touch it anymore - because battery on this phone is mystery.

yes... but try to find values that works for you... below 1000ghz phone feels choppy.
I read that somebody under-clocked phone (800ghZ) and had unexpected random reset of phone.
hey sell your quadcore phone and buy a slow dualcore :silly:, thats a bad solution for better batterytime
i am @ 1,5ghz and still 100% after 20h without flymode or something, with some tweaks und freezed apps.

Hi,
How do you switch to a different stock Rom?
I found a thread that lists many stock Roms but the links have been removed and there is no guide or flashtool to install a different firmware to phone.
Would be great of there was a guide and also a link for the v10h open Europe.
Cheers

There is a guide. I know because I followed it on Tuesday to install 10h and re-root my phone. Learn to search and read please:banghead:

Cheers for your HELP MATE. I know how to search but sometimes things get lost among so much junk, but great to know people like you are here to help.
I'll never bother trying to help anyone again myself, it has become a repetitive rude response on this site, 'learn to search and read'

I have been using my phone on wife since about 7 am. Since then, I have done maybe an hour of browsing on chrome, installed an app or 2, watch a short YouTube video, checked my email once, and played a game for 5 mins. I saw other people's battery stats and it says they have 20 plus hours of talk time? Mine says there is only 3 hours left. Is it possible I have a faulty battery? I'm also using juice defender and power save along with the brightness all the way down. I'm running android revolution hd with elemental kernel. I have the att version. Thanks in advance.
Depends on what rom your on and how long you have had the phone

I find that based on my usage habits that I get terrible battery on Android Revolution v12. I always find myself going back to a rooted AT&T Sense build, and I'm able to pull 3 hours of screen-on time with 20% left.
Be sure to use a Wakelock Detector to pinpoint any rogue apps that are keeping your phone awake when it should be sleeping.
Also; be careful with those "Juice Defender"-type apps, Android has come a VERY long way in managing RAM, and resources since 2.2 (Froyo).
Report back with any findings
Don't mean to hijack the the thread but im having a rather peculiar issue 3g and wifi are eating away my battery like a percent for every 2-3 mins that also while only browsing web nothing else in the background can anyone help . Also im on stock rom , no root and s-off
P.S auto sync is off few apps have been disabled like (play store, facebook , google + and google search and few more)
jucie defender and power saver lol over kill i bet they are working against each other

I have about the same hours on stock rooted AT&T 1.26.502.12. Updating to stock rooted 2.24.401.1 has about the same hours, but it's only been about a week and I'm constantly flashing the new ElementalX kernels, so it hasn't settled.
Also, running at 1.2ghz and intellidemand/fiops.
I think my battery might just be bad

what? or do u mean WiFi
you should use GSAM or wakelock detector to view if something is killing your battery, I have a very VERY good battery life specially since I updated to 2.24 firmware, i guess you don't have root
Check the ss I posted of gsm, and I do have root. Also, what does it say in talk time left in gsm battery monitor when you have full battery?
My battery life was great until i flashed new firmware. i'm on ARHD ROM and it was great on 11.5, with 12 i started using nova launcher and now battery life isn't as good as it was previously. Have you experienced changes with your battery life while using some custom launchers? Or that's rather caused by new firmware/rom/radio/etc?

if i was you I will do the following
-update the **** out of your ONE (firmware and ROM)
but since it would be to laborious, I probably do the following:
1 Factory reset, in android (backup your things becaus it will be erased if you do a factory reset in android, or just dont do it!!!!!!!!) and in recovery (or only in recovery =.=
2 Install a custom rom that is near to a stock rom like ARHD (do it two times with full wipe)
3 with titanium backup remove (after do a backup) the htc bloatware crap that you dont use
4 with titanium backup remove the gapss that you could download from playstore, like youtube, gmail, and specially MAPS
5 GREENIFY all apps that you dont use commonly, you will be able to greenify apps like maps and youtube
6 DONT USE SEEDER OR ENTROPY MODS!!!
7 DONT USE battery saver apps
8 set battery saver option: cpu, vibration, and if you can get use to, mark the data connection option too...
9 Use lagfix app...
10 download Trickster MOD and set you gobernator to MSM-DCVS (this could cause a little lag when you turn on your ONE)
allow to pass one day with you fresh rom, and the following day check how is your battery life
11 if you still have a not soo good battery life, try disabling media storage in apps configuration menu, maybe you have some corrupted media files that dont let media storage to scan all of your media and check if your battery life improve, if so, you should clean your media files, (because let disabled the media storage app have very high side effects)
optional
12 use mods related to a battery life of pimp my rom
13 disable location update from maps, and all location things from configuration (enable when you need them)
14 disable all autosync things that you could do manually, like dunno facebook
15 disable auto update hour and date
+++ disable google now
more optional sh*t
16 when your phone is fully changed in android, turn it off and let it charge until the led change to green, do that one time every two or three days
17 battery stats wipe whit any app of playstore
18 manage your brightness screen manually (its easy and fast in android 4.2.2)
fin...
normally i get 5:30 and 6:00 hours screen on time with a very good use (3g) but one day i get these results
BTW download the app batteryDrain is very good to check how your battery is draining
...And set the option in GSAM that show statistics since last full charge, and dont plug your phone because it could reset the statistics (well if you are reviewing your BLife that could be a problem since stock battery report of sense is almos usless)

Hello all,
I have a question for all users of samsung's 4.3 ROM, it doesn't matter if you have the old or the new bootloader (but please tell me what bootloader you have). I want to know how is your battery drain per hour when the phone is iddle. Cause i don't know anyone who have the galaxy s3 or s3 LTE to tell me the experience.
So, here is my iddle battery usage:
It doesn't matter if WIFI/Data is on or off, i have ~ 1% per hour of drain. If i deactivate ALL the options (wifi, data, gps), it remains about the same. I thinks it is a little weird, cause in 4.1.2 i had ~ 1% per 2 hours, when i switched wifi and data, i had 1% per hour.
The point of this thread is to anyone have a estimate of how is your battery, i don't think my situation is normal but maybe it is a system thing and i want your experiences to know that.

I got no battery problem on Alliance rom (look at my signature for specs).
Use this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2495276 . Thanks to @Chaitanyapatel8880 , I get 1% dropped in 8hours. Thats's 0.125/h. And 5h of screen ON time, just by following a part of the tutorial. No matter what ROM (AOSP/Sammy based). Just give it a try then come back and report

At least for me, i haven't notice any changes yet. Since we don't have the kernel the OP suggests, im using agni to undervolt, etc. will report tomorrow.
OK. For me it worked with any kernel.

Also, if you don't have access to 4g might be wise to go into settings-> (under the network section) more -> and set the network mode to 3g and 2g vs auto.
If your provider doesn't have fastdormancy available you can always disable it using the app on the app store :good:

wow, thats a huge drain... i have a question, do you have an email account configured? if yes download wakelock detecter from playstore and see if there are wakelocks from cpu and wakeup from exchange services.
Another thing : did you installed the full rom from eg sammobile? maybe some apps from system are killing the battery too.
well, if you do have an email account configured ( not on gmail app), i recommend you installing a rom from here (if you are rooted) but without the bloat from samsung (i use EVR), and then manually install the samsung apps you want, but not installing the exchange.apk/.odex. This leave you with a little problem configuring the email account, needing to set it up manually, but it works.
in my experience, exchange services didnt allow my phone to deep sleep and almost always working at 1400 Mhz. Hope it helps u
You also can downgrade if you have no choise, but you have to be rooted. There is a question abiut this here, basically you download your 4.1.2 rom, put in your sdcard (external is better, just in case) and install the rom from mobile odin. dont forget to clean all your data after that or the phone will not boot.
