Hi all, I know I have to unlock BL sooner or later so was wondering what steps should I take. I have already backed up my TA partition and contacts ,settings etc on external SD card. Here are some questions for you guys..
i) can i make an image of my current installation and flash it later on? is there any way to make an ftf out of my current installation? :fingers-crossed:
ii) unlocking BL would erase only my internal memory or also the external memory? if it only erases the internal, then i would take backups into my external memory.
iii) if it fully erases my internal memory, then it also means i lose cwm recovery(since it's also installed in internal memory)? then only way to flash custom kernel would be to flash in fastboot mode right?
as i said, i have already made backup for my contacts etc and also temple run 2 using the default backup app. please suggest what else should i do. :fingers-crossed:

When you backup via nandroid (on Amon), what do you select?
I just left it on defaults but haven't had to do a restore yet so wondering.
From memory I think the following options are UNticked by default
- recovery - I assume this is Amon_RA itself, and I would never need this unless I totally screw it and have to manually push the nandroid backup from adb including the recovery image?
- sd ext - I assume its just the rest of the SD card = doesn't matter?
- .androidsecure - I assume its apps2sd, since I use titanium for that = doesn't matter?
Any experts advice appreciated, cheers
1. You don't need to check 'recovery'.
2. If you're using any custom ROM that can move your installed applications to Ext partition, it should be checked for backup. Otherwise, you may have problem when restoring it.
3. .android_secure is where the application goes when you move it to SD card. I recommend it to be checked if you moved any one to SD card, to reduce the chance to be screwed when you restore your backup.
Thanks I'll try again
As stated in the title, does flashing a new ROM erase data on the built-in flash drive such as contacts, apps, appdata, music, videos, pictures etc?
I'm rather new to ROM flashing.
short answer: Yes with an If, long answer: No -- with a But...
When flashing a new ROM to an Android phone its a good idea to do as its creator has advised and wipe data/factory reset and wipe dalvik cache all via ClockworkMod recovery, that way there is no additional bloat ware or old system data to gum up the works,, anything stored on the phone (contacts/system data) is erased anything on the 'internal storage' (8GB or so on the XL) or memory card is spared, so anything backed up to there will be safe
Its worth making note that when first installing a ROM, most if not all work on A2SD/ADSD+/+ etc, this is where your given the option to store app data on the memory card, in devices where you can take out the memory card you will need to format it (via ClockWorkMod recovery) and sort out the size of your 'hidden' EX3/4 partition that app data is stored on. formating and partitioning yor memory card wipes everything on it so back it up to a PC before doing anything!
Additional Note: Since the XL has internal storage make sure you get everything you want off it first then when we have CWM working on the XL format the crap out of the internal storage and have fun!

Ahhhh I see. So if I want to flash a new ROM, I have to back up everything on my own then manually re-enter them.
Thanks for enlightening.
Pretty much yeh, always a good idea to manually do a backup every now and again,, once you have your ex3/4 partition apps data will be restored when you reinstal the app, also Titanium Backup w/root permissions on a fully ROMd device will restore data in the same way too (if you backup with root access the first time etc)
I unlocked my bootloader after making a backup of all apps using titanium backup but after unocking process there is no file to restore. I had copied the entire "titaniumbackup" folder from my phone before unlocking, so can that be of any help? Please help
How can I get my apps and progress back

No, you can't.
On all Xperia Z series will wipe internal sdcard if you unlocking bootloader, you should read carefully all about unlock bootloader infomations before do that.
Of course, if you had any TB backup in another storage, you can copy to internal and restore all your apps. Or, if your backups stored in sdcard, it should be not wiped during unlocking bootloader, but I can't confirm that for sure, since I'm always remove my sdcard before unlocking bootloader.
If you cannot find any file that you just copy AFTER unlocking bootloader, check the internal storage, if any size change.
Or try reboot after copy to internal storage, it should be in internal storage, if your internal storage doesn't get corrupted.
Hi,
I have Samsung Galaxy S3 I9305 phone. It had a logo stuck issue. Then I rooted the phone and flash CWM recovery using ODIN3.
Then I made the CWM backup to the SD card. Then I wipe the dalvik cache and wipe data/factory reset. Since still phone is not booted I misunderstood the steps and mistakenly did the CWM format /system and format /data. then I did nothing. Now the phone is not booting. It only goes to model no display screen. I read that even when formatting data, It only deletes the table of contents(pointers) and not the actual data. Now please tell me that, were all photos in internal memory lost? Can I recover photos in internal memory using recovery utility?.
Wiping system means NO OS. Just flash a new ROM and you'll be fine. Also this dosen't need to be a Q&A Thread, it's better if it is just a Normal Thread.
Thanks for the quick reply. Actually my question was even though I formatted the system and data, Can I restore data in the internal memory?. I need only internal memory photos. I have read that I even formatted the data, table of contents is deleted and data is still available.
If its still there, flash the exact same ROM you flashed before the accident then if its still not there then use DiskDigger from GPlay. If DiskDigger can't find it then it can't be recovered ever again
Quick question Jeri. I have backup the ROM using CWM recovery AFTER the accident to external SD card. Back up has the following files:
boot.img
recovery.img
system.ext4.tar
system.ext4.tar.a
system.ext4.tar.b
It was the stock ROM(I mean original OS, which phone had when I bought the phone).
So please tell me that what to do next? sorry about my lack of knowledge of this area.
is any body there to help me on this matter? only experts can ask questions on this site?
I flashed the ROM using ODIN. I used the I9305XXUFNL1_I9305H3GFNL1_I9305XXUFOA1_HOME.tar.md5 file for flashing. But I'm not sure it is correct. But still my phone is not booting, and stopping at logo screen. What do I do next?
I had a big problem with the backup of my moto x 2014, i lost photos, videos and download of the internal memory of my phone! :crying:
I made a Nandroid with TWRP 3.0 Recovery by selecting all the internal partitions of the phone as: a system, date, boot, efs, cache .. So all the internal partitions and made up of external usb otg pendrive (since the moto x has no sd external)
Everything went well and after he finished the backup to external USB OTG I did a wipe advanced as I had backup !!
The problem is that when I restored all were gone all my photos and personal file are lost !
If he did not do a Nandroid A COPY MIRROR OF ALL MEMORY? Why it has not included in the DATA partition, even my files?
I did not know did not backup personal files!
Now what interests me is: There are software type PhotoRec to recover even low-level files from the internal memory of the phone because in theory are still there? and they have not been overwritten ...
If they were an external memory there was no problem photorec enough, but in the internal memory of the phone that use software?
Please I need suggestions! Thank you.

Twrp does backup your data if you select it.
Photorec won't work. If you don't have a backup they are gone forever.

..Are you really sure ?
Because I have selected all of the flags from Backup in TWRP 3.0 , included DATE, but when I restored the Nandroid when I go in the Downloads folder or camera or other folders these are empty !! nothing files! why ?
There is a way to "scan" low-level partition of the internal memory of the phone as it happens on hdd computers ?
Some recovery software might work for you.. Root access is necessary for that, usb cable, adb enable.. Thats it! Google it don't remmeber the name android recovery or idk.. Last tried year ago one note 3 kitkat.
