I wonder if the regular S4's camera will plug in? The connect looks the same. I know it will require a case mod and drivers but that would be sweet

I was wondering the same thing, maybe someone could develop a kit with the regular S4 camera and a wireless charging back cover that incorporates the new camera

Exactly, if it plugs they can extract the drivers from a S4 rom and put them in ours. The rear housing will have to be modded though

As we already suspect, galaxy tab uses MHL standard to enable HDMI capability. So today I disassembly the dock, because I didn't find any teardown of it in the web.
So here I am uploading it.

My porpuse was to see if the galaxy S microusb to HDMI cable owns the same chips, cause the cable exists but the drivers arent compilated.
No way to make bussines with that.

Ah btw, I just sold my tf101 n m getting a n7!!!
Seems like a good deal, but I get extremely nervous at the idea of the N7 being connected via a relatively fragile microusb slot and standing up in portrait mode like that. Probably because the cats like to knock over everything in sight...

Evidently MHL just isn't supported (or some other term), I tried it on mine and no luck. Google supposedly used a "custom" N7 for I/O to display the N7 on the big screen.

Hello.
No, this dock use a new MHL standard/protocol.
So it's compatible with SGS3 only and will be work with new Samsung devices like SGS3 Mini.
But it works for charging any devices and computers connection (like a simple microUSB cable).

No, SGS3 is thinner than GN2,so it fit in this dock.
Yes, SGS3 is much smaller than the SGN2, I meant that it won't fit perfectly and there will be some space around the phone. The only thing that will hold it there is the USB port. As a result, the possibility to break the USB port will be higher.

The dock is designed for GN2 with cover, so it won't fit perfectly with naked GN2.

Yes, it does fit perfectly with the Note 2 without a cover. The USB connection is mobile so will angle to fit. I was using my 'naked' Note 2 with one this evening.
S3 doesn't work with it for anyone wondering that, but I think that will only be a matter of a firmware update.

Nothing, it charges the phone but doesn't mirror the display or mount anything connected to the USB ports. US and International S3 both the same.

That's just too bad!
If Samsung had made this compatible for Note I, they could made more people happier. Here's hoping some other manufacturers make something that will be compatible with Note I.
galaxy s3 and smart dock
Just wanted to update on this - appears that the European 4.1.2 release for the S3 includes compatibility with the Smart dock.
This is according to a German forum thread with a video demonstrating that the Polish firmware version is already working with it. I can't locate it right now, but can't post links anyway. For now, Samsung.de does display compatibility with the I9300 (s3).
It does remain to be seen if the dock will work with the NA or Japan versions on all carriers once this update is out in all regions (I also noticed this dock has disappeared from Samsung's US site, and from some retailers).
So when I got my Galaxy S7 I also got a Gear VR. I've recently upgraded to an S8+. I see that I can order a part to swap out the micro USB for a USB C connector. Great! So I order it. I'm happy that it came in the mail. No instructions - no big deal. I find instructions using our trusty friend Google. The instructions don't match the Gear VR I have. I can't swap the connector out. Doing some more searching I find there are different models of Gear VR. Mine is apparently the older model that doesn't have a swappable connector.
Oh well. Maybe I'll take the damn thing to the shooting range. We'll see how it holds up to a round of .500 Smith and Wesson magnum...

No. Just a bit bigger. Smith and Wesson 500 magnum.
well, there is always the "dremel" and a hack it till it works? Or ebay? Not that you would get the equivelent of the "fun factor" of just using it for target practice, but there are always alternatives to consider.
Buy a headset used, Ebay always has them.
Ps. I have a Sig P238 and a Henry survival rifle (AR 7) :good:
I have a black vr headset, and got the side, swapped the usb_C off a box at a tech store but it doesn't fit the headset I have, the little tab prevented it from slipping onto the connection. So I skipped it and it looks like it should all be working right, but Alas... No go. Phone doesn't seem to register it's been connected into the headset...
Any thoughts guys?
Forget the dremel....use the Magnum!
FWIW I didn't blast it to smithereens with my hand canon. I gave it to a guy at work to give to his wife. She has an S7.
Has anyone ever managed to get one of these to work?
I bought one years ago and tried to get it to work with a very clunky old phone - no luck. I've since lost it somewhere, but am wondering if it might be useful to make up for the lack of ir blaster
Anyone have any experience with these things?

Try using zazaremote: open app, configure a remote, there will be a message at the top of the screen saying there's to IR hardware detected - AT THAT POINT you plug in your 3.5mm IR and it should ask you if that's an IR you plugged, say yes... adjust the audio volume to 100% and try it.
Also you need to rotate some of them otherwise there is no contact, this is done so you can keep it plugged into your phone and still have audio through speakers / BT as if it's unplugged...
Please try that I'm waiting to hear if it works for you!

Hope it does. I'm pretty sure I will have lost the one I bought a couple of years back, but I'll have a dig about in my box of phone bits and will report back if I have anything to tell you
Edit:
I was surprised to find it fairly easily. Doesn't seem to work based on a quick check, but I'll fiddle with it and let you know if I have a breakthrough
Actually, these won't work (right)
They will but maybe with complete darkness lol
The trick is to have max volume but you really need an amplifier inbetween your audio jack and this product to have any significant range, I made one myself with a ln386 chip, one end plugs into the USB port and the other end to the audio jack, what it does it turn a led on/off through an app that's basically a soundboard with IR codes

Lumme! Sounds a lot more involved than I'd hoped. Think I'll stick to using the remote control!
Haven't had any luck using a similar product... Looking at the LED through another phone camera it doesn't appear to light up when pressing any function....

Apparently the functionality is limited to some Chinese transit systems and such like - not available or particularly useful outside China so far as I've understood
