Does this look right to you? - Motorola Atrix HD

My mom came to me wondering why she couldn't download anything else. I told her that she probably has to many things installed. I to check her storage it this and this is what it looks like. This phone has 8gb of memory. There's no way this equals that. Any ideas? She's running rooted/Unlocked BL stock.
Sent from my PACman Atrix

Well you won't get 8 because of the system in general but it shouldn't be that bad. Check her sd card for some random large files. Maybe backups?
Sent from my PACMAN MATRIX HD MAXX

I agree with deeje00. But also take a look at this app in the play store called "cleaner master", see if that helps.

Similar usage but have almost 2GB left. Stock ICS.

If I remember right this is the same mom that was deleting stuff that she shouldn't delete maybe what you want to do is start looking around the file systems with a root explorer and see if maybe you can find things that are not supposed to be there like backups or anything like that maybe she started copying things instead of deleting them.
If there's nothing misplaced then you might have to delete everything on the SD card and start over because it might be a messed up partition somewhere.

Do you maybe have safestrap installed with a 2-3gb slot ready?

so some of these questions might be stupid ill admit it. how big of a chance is there that i brick my phone trying to root it. and if im planning to get a bigger sd card should i get it before i use my original sd card and root it. also if i ever need to how hard is it to put the phone back to sprints os. and anyone one with good advice im open ears guys.
General thread, just for future reference. As far as bricking your chances are pretty slim, just make sure not to flash a GSM radio.

rooting your phone: pretty much no chance. don't hold me to this though, if you somehow manage to do it. even if you do screw it up, the RUU(the thing that puts you back to sprint's os) can easily be run from a computer and it'll pretty much fix your phone.
most important thing: NEVER flash a gsm radio. those things will really mess up your phone because it'll never turn on after you do that.
about the sdcard... it shouldn't really matter which one you use unless you're using apps2sd.
Hey thanks what about the micro sd card thing

With sd cards, there is a 'class' number. The higher number you have, the better it is. I'd go with class 6 or higher. And if you just stay in the CDMA forum, you shouldn't have any problems. Just don't flash any roms or radios that dont mention CDMA
Once again you rock bro thanks I was gonna use the steps that were posted under the rooting cdma hero for Windows does that one look like it would be good for someone like me to follow

ok im rooted go team venture now yet another question anyone have the best 2.1 rom or a good one thats pretty stable.
Fresh2.0http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=643034 or Damage Controlhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656690
I prefer fresh rom
Basically it's just trial and error. It's pretty easy to flashthe ROM's so you can keep changing them until you find something you like..
When you flash any ROM you will usually need to wipe your phone and this will cause anything not backed up will be lost. i make sure I save all contacts as a google type. That way when you flash a new ROM and you sign into google again all your contacts will be restored. There are several apps in the market to back up apps you have downloaded.
But before you do that, boot into recovery...hold down home and power to turn on the phone and do a nandroid. Then mount your sdcard and save the files inside the nandroid folder on your sdcard to your computer. This should be your nandroid of the original 1.5 ROM.
on the roms when it says to save to root folder is that the same as the nandroid folder cause when i mount my sd there is no folder that labeled root
ha im retarted didnt read it good enough you answered that already. on my contacts list if the person has google next to there name does that mean is saved to google and where on google can i see them. i wasnt told or shown anything when i got this phone im sure this stuff is basic
heres a question: If I were to root and do a custom ROM, how assured am I that when sprint releases 2.1, I can do that upgrade?

Things to not do (or to think about) after Root...for now

The users. First off I want to make this very clear, I am not responsible for anything nor is droidxforums for any damages done to devices due to root, since it was up to the user to make the decisions they make. Thank you, please continue to read.
1. First off I am posting this for reasons that were obvioulsy not too obvious.
2. If you chose to delete anything other than something that can be downloaded from the market, YOU took that risk. You have potentially just bricked your device.
3. DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING THAT HAS "BLUR" IN ITS FILE NAME.
4. DO NOT try to flash a custom recovery via Rom Manager then wonder why your phone is stuck with a cool new Motorola logo.
5. This thread will be updated very frequently, before posting questions and what not, just post your problem, no questions please, I will be using this to help as many of you as possible.
6. Most importantly do not mess with the framework right now, there is many $600 papers weights laying around now.
7. DO NOT TOUCH BACK UP ASSISTANCE UNLESS ITS WINDY IN YOUR HOUSE OR OFFICE AND YOU NEED A PAPER WEIGHT.
Thank you.

We tested this last nite,, you can do basically whatever you want as long as you put the phone back to pristine condition before you do a wipe or update or whatever..
Here is the basic method that works to copy files back to the phone if you took out bloat..

It seems that no one knows for sure.
People have been able to root, re-copy any removed system applications ( blockbuster, skype, etc..) apply the .604 update and stay rooted
Only time will tell for sure
I only deleted Blockbuster, Skype, NFSShift, and AmazonMP3/Kindle apps. Would I need to put those back on and unroot if I wanted to do a hard reset?
From what I hear, you need to put back ALL of the apps that came with the phone to apply the .604 update
Un-rooting doesn't seem to be necessary

He is correct, we have had phones with tons removed, copied everythign back with the right permissions, took out all the things that root did, basically un-rooting, apply the update, then re-root, so you will have to put the phone back to pristine before the update, but it works fine.
At least it does for now. As for the rooting, it is a huge gaping hole in linux/android, not a specific phone or phone home launcher so it will likely not be fixed until at least Gingerbread 3.0 IF THEN. Bird really smoked the monkey on this one, i would marry him if it was legal.
But yeah, dont freak out if u removed a ton of stuff, here is a complete pristine system app dir if u need:
http://www.chadhaney.com/droidXDefault/
Zanix, thanks for updating into the post, i hope it ends up helping people.
Updated OP with direct link to original .apk list
Hey,
Where can I find a list of the correct permissions? I removed like 5 apps and copied them back and still the update fails.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Check the permissions from one of the files you did not remove
I'm not 100% sure that will work
It is 644 if I recall correctly.
I think you need to check the umask for each file as well
ON the post on how to put back backup assistant it tells you the permissions for all the files in the app dir
its in the first post
So I wanted to install a status bar replacement for Droid X, which involves replacing framework-res.apk. Instead of doing it through adb, I replaced the file with Root Explorer, and it sent it into boot loop. Do I now have a paperweight? =/
I tried doing factory reset, but that didn't fix it...
Edit: It sees update.zip on my SD card in recovery mode (some file I think I downloaded before), so is there a way to maybe apply a recovery command to replace framework-res.apk?
Edit2: sigh, nvm, there is no update.zip on the SD card, I'm not sure where it's reading it from. But when I tell it to apply it, it doesn't find it either. Looks like I bricked my phone
Has anyone been using Autostarts to block the bloat from loading on boot?

The Titanium Backup "Freeze" feature has been working like a charm for me. I've frozen all of the bloatware (the autorun stuff) and seen no adverse effects on the phone.
The phone seems to perform better without the running bloat. But this might be a placebo effect. The jury is still out...I'm testing. One thing is for sure, I feel better knowing that useless extra processes are not running in the background.
The big open question for me is how does the TB Freeze function work? Is it like the task killers or does it intercept the app on boot?
It does not change anything in the root directory since all the *.apk files are in tact for the frozen apps. This is the main reason I use the freeze since there seems to be little risk of bricking the phone with this method.

[NEEDED] 6.893 100% stock backup

Does anyone have a backup of 6.893?
Typically I am very diligent, but somehow I forgot to make a backup of stock.
I have not switched to any other update. I have read through everything thoroughly and I apologize for failing to follow instructions. With 5 android devices and multiple flashes I have never missed this before. And I realized it as soon as I flashed TH3ORYS rom
From what I gather the easiest and most effective way to get back on track is to flash a stock 6.893 rom make a backup and move on from there.
I appreciate anyone's help!
I am also open to using this thread or creating one in delopment to post the stock roms of every version.

Not entirely true. His system will be back to 5.5.886, but his kernel/radio will be his previously upgraded 5.6.893. He is off the upgrade path until he gets the matching system file of 5.6.893. Only then can he continue updating. I just went through this exact thing, used the one step recovery, but went back to .886 and had to beg to find someone to send me a CWR back up of their 5.6.893, which got me back on track.
Oh yeah...nevermind. I completely thought you were wanting stock not the ota. That's what I get for speed reading.

Giving someone a backup made on your device or restoring a backup made on someone else's device is an extremely foolhardy proposition. You are cloning the Android_id from one device to the other, which means that apps that use it as an identifier will push and pull data from both devices without any intervention from the unknowingly affected user.

Check your pms and please don't share in case there is some of my data still left in the backup. just download all the files and put them in a folder and put in your clockwork backup folder on your sd/ext, probably the best way is to restore with advanced restore and just restore system only.

I have really been through the ringer today. I started off this morning by noticing that I had no data at all. I was on 6.893 and TH3ORYROM 2.1 and have been for a few days with no trouble until today when I lost data. I tried everything to get it back, but nothing. I called VZW to make sure there wasn't a network problem in my area and they suggested that I try everything that I had already done (bat. pull, sim card re-register, turn off LTE radio, etc). When they couldn't fix anything, they wanted to transfer me to tier 2 tech support, but they apparently need to talk to me on a different phone so they can diagnose this one, but I didn't have access to another phone. So I decided I would try to flash one of the updates hoping it would reflash the radio file and wake it up. When I got home, I used the R3L3AS3DRoot to restore to stock and tried to install 7.893, but the update failed. I searched around and tried every method I could to get any of the updates to install, but nothing worked, still no 3g either. Eventually, in my desperate attempt to fix this myself I decided to wipe everything and start over. I wiped the webtop partition. I think that's what really screwed me up, because nothing else I did was any different that what I've done in the past. After wiping everything, I went back to the R3L3AS3DRoot and tried to run it. No matter which option I selected, it seemed to run fine, but I couldn't boot past the fastboot screen. I tried to fxz using RSD Lite, but every flash I tried failed. Then, in a panic, I came across P3's moto-fastboot method used to "get you back on the update path". I ran that and it freaking worked!! Then I figured I'd try to get up to 7.893, but I've tried absolutely everything I can find mention of and nothing works. Every install fails. I am getting some intermittent 3G now though. And to top it all off, I discovered that none of the nandroid backups I've made will restore and most of them don't even exist. I just discovered that I needed to check "use external storage" for the backups to take. I thought I had been covering my ass by making backups, but they weren't valid. Currently I have stock, rooted phone with an intermittent 3G signal. System Version 5.5.886, baseband CDMA_N_03.1C.57RLTEDC_U_05.15.02, kernel [email protected] #1, and build number 5.5.1_84_DBN-55. As I sit now, my plan is to see how it acts tomorrow and if I still have a lot of trouble with data, I will return it to stock unrooted and take it into a Verizon store and see if they will let me try a new SIM card. I don't really know what else to do at this point.

[Q] [rooted] How to remove bloatware?

I just got this phone last Friday. It's my first Android phone, but I've used Android before on my Kindle Fire, which I rooted and tried all sorts of ROMs and customized the hell out of it.
So I was really excited today when I found out about the root package! I just got it rooted, had to factory reset first, but that's OK. But since my phone is a Canada Bell model (and I live in the US), it's a got a bunch of apps that I can't use and don't want.
I googled and found a site that gives a tutorial how to use Android Mate to remove the crapware, but in searching through /system/apps, I don't see the Bell stuff, maybe I missed it or it's named something different.
Any tried doing this yet?
Instead of removing them, I suggest you freeze them with titanium backup. Download it from play store, open it, click restore/backup, tap the app you don't want and select freeze. It saves headache and it's not like our phone has a lack of free memory

I re-downloaded YP from the market but it's still no go...
Can somebody upload stock YP apk and tell me where to put it since I am not sure was it in system/app or in system/vendor/app
Or at least if you can give me name of the original stock app and its location I can try to rename the one from the market and move it to its appropriate folder.
Thanks

4.3 Storage Problems?

Hey guys, I'm new to the one coming from an s4, and after learning all the necessary things I flashed a 4.3 custom Rom over the stock 4.1.2 that I had. Now I've got a massive amount (19.89 gb) of storage from 'other'... I tried deleting certain files that I thought were the culprit(data/media) but after trying to with box Rom toolbox pro and root explorer I have been unsuccessful in removing the folders, they just stick there no matter what I do, even after deleting them all twice over and rebooting several times. Now I've noticed that if I move a file into the 0 folder then suddenly the pictures show up in the gallery after a reboot. However there are still files I don't need and want to get rid of. Anyone for helping?

I've already read through that one, it doesn't help as it seems I cannot delete the folders, outside of data/media/0 as these all persist after a reboot, even after deleting them. File manager says finished deleting and then I reboot, still there, still taking up 7 gb extra space.

yep
looks like im using this phone with only an accessable 2 gigabytes for now. Bummer Hummer
Hate to be that guy, but back everything up (helium for apps and app data, move all media to a computer) and factory reset. It's a pain, I know, but it almost certainly will fix the problem.
I had the save problem, I used a usb otg thing and copied what I wanted, did a factory reset and formatted my storage in twrp, now all is good and transferred the stuff back to the phone storage

This seems to be the only fix, I've tried everything else. Seems it was an issue from going from 4.1.2 to to 4.2.2 also
Ive tried a factory reset, clockwork mod wipe, deleting root folders and nothing works!! :crying: Ill try the twrp format though. because right now i have 11gb in my "other" folder!
UPDATE: holy poop guys that was the most scary bricking Ive ever dealt with!!!!! whatever you guys do, dont format EVERYTHING like I did!!!!

I've been dancing around using the TWRP "format data" option as well, so you are advising against that huh? Why, was it a little more than just factory reset type deal? I need to find a solution to this issue and I know that resetting is the answer, just need to find the best way to go about it. Thanks for the update, and I would love to hear what exactly you went through selecting the TWRP format option!

I formatted EVERYTHING in twrp haha the only way I got my phone back was to downgrade twrp to 2.5.0.0 and use abd sideload ( sideloaded my viper rom) with the htc toolkit program on my pc. And now my "other" folder says 2 gb which I believe is correct. :good: But now I have another problem I went into recovery and installed a zip file that modified the amount of steps i had in my volume, (I have already installed it before and it worked great) now my phone is in a bootloop and Ive already tried flashing a new boot image but it doesn't work....what do i do?
UPDATE: I guess i warned against it because I thought i ruined my phone. Also, I just sideloaded viper rom again to fix my problem
