Has anyone been ble to use Cifs manager or an alternative to mount a folder via lan to the phone such as it music or movie folder? I tried it and I got a invalid argument. I'm assuming this is due to missing modules? Anyone got any ideas?

I'd like to get an opinion on what's the best WiFi File Manager app around as I'm always transferring media i.e photos etc back and forth from my DHD to pc and vice versa and it would be better not having to use a usb cable and using a quick and simple way over WiFi would be better.

if it's small files then I use Bluetooth.
For larger things I use ASTRO file manager with the SMB module, then i can browse my Laptop or PC folders via my phone.
I couldn't get SMB Module to work. Best I have found so far is Estrongs with the built in WiFi file Manager. Can simply view the contents of your pc from phone and copy and paste onto phone.

What about MyPhoneExplorer
IMO excellent piece of software that allows connection via cable, Bluetooth and WiFi
And its free
Dropbox!
i use "file expert" for nearly everything.
but i also have SSHDroidPro in case i wont to log into my phone or use e.g. winscp or scp to trasnfer file from/to sitting at my pc.
Websharing is the one for me
LOL wtf..
Just make sure you have a shared folder on your Win7 machine (create something like Android transfer and share with 'Everyone')
Use ES File Explorer to set up a Server on LAN tab
job done
I would like to mount some network storage on my device. I tried using file expert but it doesn't seem to be able to mount specific shares -- in mother words, my NAS doesn't advertise shares so you have to hit them directly (I.e. \\server\share). What app can I use to do this? Can I just open a console and do a mount -t cifs?
andsmb works great. i use it on the xoom to download music and ebooks from my nas.

seems very slow, maxed out at about 112kb/s for me. anybody know of anything faster?
Is there an app that would let me stream media files and DVD folder structures from a Network Attached Storage device on my LAN?

This looks like something that should work but for the life of it I can't get it configured to work :-(
Es file explorer or upnp play. Both works fine for me except 720p if ur running GB and up
To keep my life simple I used Clemsyns kernel and CIFS Manager worked with no issues. I have tried out some 720p files and they have worked well with Moboplayer. With Pershoots Kernel I had to manually add the cifs.ko which did work in the end but took some work. I pulled the basic instructions from his page.
To use one of the kernel modules:
Pull the one you want from lib-2632.39.tar.gz (winrar can open this),
adb remount
adb push MODULE.ko /system/lib/modules/2.6.32.39-cyanogenmod/
adb shell chmod 644 /system/lib/modules/2.6.32.39-cyanogenmod/MODULE.ko
adb shell insmod /system/lib/modules/2.6.32.39-cyanogenmod/MODULE.ko
By far this is the best feature for me for the gtab.
Skifta was really easy to set up and use... works well on my gTab and Nexus One.
Allows streaming from pc, phone or tablet on pc, phone or tablet.

Emit or Plex should work wonderfully for you. Both encode video on the fly. I have used Plex since it was released for Android and really like how it flows.
Is there a faster way to transfer files? I downloaded the infamous Kies but that didn't even run after being installed on my PC. When connected it shows up as a tablet and takes EXTREMELY LONG TIME to transfer any to almost all kinds of data. Is there a work around on this?

WiFi is the fastest, I there are a few apps that will handle both paid and free. Also dropbox is excellent for copying files too and from. And you can use the comp. Or es file explorer for ftp and shared devices as well.

why dont u change usb setting to mass storage and copy files using data cable. its faster
You should try AirDroid, work really well. Install app on device and client on pc.

basically i want to browse my sdcard internal folder using my windows 8 pc using SMB networking shares
it might be a lollipop issue?
i have samba file sharing working perfectly using nexus 7 fhd on android 4..3
has anyone gotten this to work? i can't seem to get it working, my PC can see the network share of the nexus6 but it won't allow me to view into the folders
i tried SAMBA file sharing and servers ultimate pro apps

Hmmm. From KitKat onwards, only the app that is used for mounting can see the contents. Not sure you'll get this working without a dirty-hijack of debuggerd - which you'll need to be pretty good at bash shell scripting to do.

This works on mine OK using the SMB app you linked to. I had to fool around with user id, password, and workgroup name in the app settings to make it work.
