Tasker with HTC One - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have installed Viper Rome. Now I'm trying to get Tasker to run.
Unfortunately, the radio cells are not updated in idle mode. This is an Android bug. Is that correct. Or this was in previous versions.
Thanks Niro96

I use Tasker. Everything works well for me, but I use only a fraction of the features in Tasker. What is it exactly that doesn't work?

can't get tasker to work for me
I used tasker in many many phones but in HTC phones (using Sense ROMs) I am never able to get a profile to work. That profile basically switches off my 4g when a wifi is connected. I live in an area where I only get 1 bar of 4g but 4 bars of 2g/edge reception from my rooom...

i'm a fan of tasker, but since i run it on my One I'm not able to turn the keyguard off when home wifi is connected - which is one of my favourite profiles.
there are so many different features in this app, it has to be that a few of them are uneffective depending on your phone/rom/setup...

HTC one and Phone Radio settings
So I guess I am not the only one not able to change radio settings as part of my profiles then? I get that the options for radio settings are unavailable on this device when trying to use them. I have rooted (allthough Tasker has not asked for root access according to SU) but with S-ON (because I updated stock ROM on my phone when i got it. Yes, I am an idiot....)

I used to love Tasker until i found a similar app that i think is much more user friendly and also imho has many more functions/triggers then tasker.
Give it a try maybe that works better for you
The app is called Automagic and you can find it in the Play Store
I also had a problem with Automagic for certain profiles on my HTC One which relied on network tower cell ID informations as when the Network Mode was set to: GSM / WCDMA / LTE auto. For some reason in this setting the phone would often not get the CELL ID informations from the towers and therefore could not identify my location. The workaround i used for this is that i switched the Network mode to: GSM / WCDMA auto mode and then it works flawlessly. Whenever else i need 4G i simply turn it back on manually.

Can anyone shed light on how to get Tasker to do a vibe on phone call without turning off the volume for notifications? The profiles I used on my last phone don't seem to work on my HTC One. I still need to hear my appointment reminders, but want to vibe only for phone calls and SMS.
Silent mode controls for all three. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Can anyone tell me how to turn on the Do-not-disturb feature via tasker?

I would love to have this too. Anyone? I don't see it in Secure Settings which is the one option that I have seen for it. Right now I am using a home-brew Tasker profile similar to their sample "Auto Sleep Mode", but would prefer to simplify.

@why_So_serious
install busybox and Secure Settings
in tasker, create a new task --> Plugins --> Secure Settings --> Config --> Custom ROM Actions --> HTC Modes --> Power Saver Mode --> Enabled or Disabled.
Unfortunately this will not make the Power Saver icon visible in the status bar when its active but you can see its active from the 2 fingers drop down menu or in Settings.

Autoremote without bluetooth tethering?

Hello,
Is there anyway to get Autoremote to work directly with the Note 3 over bluetooth and not require internet? I'm sure I"m missing something? thanks.
You need internet first to register device in autoremote
After that, you only need standard Bluetooth connection to send commands
@Brendo my bluetooth autoremote seems to work fine.
However if I try to send a notification (not a quick message) via bluetooth it doesn't seem to get received on the gear
Please try and let me know if you can send and receive a NOTIFICATION thanks

Stock notifications aren't available on the gear. You can get the pull down bar in null rom, but even then I don't think it works with all apps. I've not tested though. If you mean the notifications like standard way that gear manager sends notifications, we really need an sdk to work out how to utilize that (there are workarounds where some apps used existing channels)

No, perhaps you misunderstood,
if you go into the autoremote app and select "devices" then there is a small envelope on the right as well as a triangle - these are used to send quick messages and notifications ( by autoremote app )
I can send the message, but not the notification by bluetooth..... however notificatio does work fine by wifi and it gets received by the gear no problem

I understand now. I had a look sending notification via plugin in tasker - which is the same, but didn't realise how notification was sent. Sounds like message uses direct Bluetooth where as notification routes through wifi. Sounds like you'll need to check with dev (may be a bug or unfinished since Bluetooth is recent addition to app?)
I ve got the same problème when i has was in theter i Can send command but without theter the command don t work.
Can you help me?

Thank you. I thought I was the only one not able to get this working. I've trying for a week now and everything I found made me feel like I was doing something wrong.
The one thing I've noticed is that when you click and hold the device, and the menu comes up, when I select "connect Bluetooth device, it will say it is connected. But, right after that, it says "not a valid QR code". So I've been wondering if that has anything to do with it.
Anybody else seen this?

It DOES work, you have to create a Tasker profile and task, search this or the other thread for it.
Everything works except notification by bluetooth (for me ) - I will let Joao know

Ok, regarding the tasker task, does this need to be included in every task? What I mean is, I've already got some autoremote tasks that work when tethered. I want to be able to use them via BT when I'm not on Wifi (that's the only way my tether works).

Just add 1 profile on the phone state "connected to Gear" .... with associated task, plugins autoremote bluetooth "on"
Also on the gear in tasker

I've done this and it still doesn't work. Still getting "retrying 1/5" etc. I'm starting to think I must have some other BT connection issue because I've been trying to get the BT GPS sharing working again. It worked a few null roms back but seems to be broken now. I've searched all over the phone and the gear but can't find anything that would be blocking certain BT functions. Everything else works between the phone and the gear (notifications, weather, mini gallery, pedometer backup).
is bluetooth on in autoremote app

I assume you have done the below, but repeating it for others too....
In Autoremote, on the devices tab, click on the bluetooth icon of each paired autoremote device to switch ON, and turn wifi off ( assume you have already long pressed and "add as Bluetooth device )
If ON, the icon is blue, if off grey

Yep, tried it multiple ways. Like I said, I think I've got some other connection issue. I even tried the Smart Remote app from the gear store and haven't ever been able to get it to connect either. At first I thought it was due to the null rom but others have said it works for them.
I just have no idea what would allow "selective" connections.
Edit: I just noticed that on the phone, in tasker, it shows as an active profile but in the gear it does not. I even set up a generic profile just to pop up a notification. If I test the action it works but the profile still shows as inactive and in the notification panel it still shows "no active profiles" yet all other functions continue to work. Can someone confirm if this is the same on their gear?

I had the same, initially, it took some time on the Gera with Tasker.
Try switch profile off, then on, save reboot, reconnect and have patience.
Instead of connecting to a "named" connection, leave that bank and choose the optional "bluetooth address" in taker profile state

Connection Lost
I use autoremote on the gear over bluetooth and it work well with my note 3.
I have tasker which enable bluetooth in gear and note 3 when they connect them in bluetooth.
It work great until the watch goes in deep sleep. At this time the connection is broken until I reboot. I try to enable persistent notification on the gear when tasker enable autoremote bluetooth (to prevent the service to be killed) but at this time I have another problem, the gear and the phone are not able to go in deep sleep so I have a big battery drain.
If someone have ideas to help I'll be very glad.

I rebooted both phone and gear and the first try was successful. Next attempt back to trying. One thing I noticed was that upon restart both taskers showed the Bluetooth profile as active. After the first test the tasker on my phone now shows inactive. Prior to restart it was the gear that showed inactive.
Either way, this is progress. Now to find out why they aren't staying active.

After series of reboots in various orders, this is finally working. Now that it is, I can even say it's much faster than while tethered.
Now I can't wait to get my home automation setup and working. To control it all from the watch is going to be awesome.
Thanks everybody for your support and ideas.

[Tutorial] Auto BT Tether - The Tasker Way

So... I´m not a great fan of doing things manually if I don´t have to so the manual toggling of the BT Tether doesn´t do it for me...
So I worked myself to a automatic sollution based on Tasker and Bluetooth Auto Connect
Tasker is available as a free 7-day trial here if you wan´t to try it out before you buy, Bluetooth Auto Connect is all free.
Works like this: If Display is turned on, the Gear waits 20sec (longer than the regular Display timeout), if display is still on after thoose 20sec it turns the BT Tether On and sets the Display timeout to 1 min instead (Optional). When the display turns off again, it waits 1 min, if display is still off, it shuts the Tether Off aswell and returns the display timeout to 15sec again.
So here goes:
1. Download both apps and install on Gear (you should know how it´s made by now) You shouldnt need to do anything with BT Auto Connect, we will trigger it from within Tasker.
2.Start Tasker and select New Profile. Set name to "BT Tether On", choose Event, Display and finally Display On.
3. Create a Task to be triggered by the Profile and set it like this:
Code:
1. Wait 20 seconds
2. If %SCREEN ~ On
3. Bluetooth Auto Connect (Found under Plugins, then click on the Config button, then click Profiles and tick Networking (PAN), go back and click on Devices, click on your device and tick the Networking (PAN) here aswell, back again and click Profile Action, choose Connect)
4. Display timeout 1min (optional)
5. Variable Set %BTtether To On
6. End If
3. Save the Task and back out to Tasker´s Main screen.
4. Create new profile. Set name to "BT Tether Off", choose Event, Display and finally Display Off.
5. Create a Task to be triggered by the Profile and set it like this:
Code:
1. If %BTtether ~On
2. Wait 1 Minute
3. If %SCREEN ~Off
4. Bluetooth Auto Connect (Found under Plugins, then click on the Config button, then click Profiles and tick Networking (PAN), go back and click on Devices, click on your device and tick the Networking (PAN) here aswell, back again and click Profile Action, choose Disconnect)
5. Display Timeout 15 Seconds (optional)
6. Variable Set %BTtether To Off
7. End If
8. End If
That´s about it!
Have only tested this a couple of hours so there might be Bugs in the "code" but have it a try and report back to me if something feels weird.
Happy Tasking!

Downlod premade profiles here:
BT Tether On
BT Tether Off
After importing, remember to enter the Task and click on Bluetooth Auto Connect and select your BT device in the list.
Cant wait to try on my gear

That reminds me, should update my thread that has Bluetooth auto tether. Been too busy with trying to get GM on my

Although the screen timeout modification & screen off events are excellent.

I don´t really know yet if I like it either, but you have to try it to find out
I may assign the On feature to a button/widget by Tasker and let the Off feature be like above.

I´ll break the code down for you with comments:
Code:
1. If %BTtether ~On //Checks IF the Variable BTtether is set to on, If it is, the Tasks below continues, else task is aborted.
2. Wait 1 Minute //Pretty selfexplained.
3. If %SCREEN ~Off //IF Display is still Off after 1 min, the task below continues, else task is aborted
4. Bluetooth Auto Connect //Disconnects the BT Tether
5. Display Timeout 15 Seconds (optional) //Sets new Display Timeout
6. Variable Set %BTtether To Off //Sets BTtether to Off so Tasker knows the state of the BT Tether.
7. End If //Ends "If %SCREEN ~Off "
8. End If // Ends "If %BTtether ~On"
Since we got two If expressions in the code, we need to have two End If´s to decides where thoose IF´s ends.
Seem a little clearer?
In regular programming you have to specify all IF expressions with a start and an end, may look different from language to language though.
Maybe Tasker doesn´t need the End IF if it´s in the End of the code but I want the code to look clean and OK so I put it there to make it right.

[Q] tasker WiFi tether control

I'm trying to enable WiFi tether with tasker for arunchained. I have the secure settings app and it doesn't toggle WiFi tether. It comes up as an error when running the task. Anyone have any luck with this?
Same issue here and have seen it on several other threads..... have not seen a solution to this yet. I've used Tasker and Trigger in the past with no problems, but can't get either to turn Hotspot on/off.
Strange...
I just tried with both the built in Tasker toggle and Secure Settings and both times Wi-Fi Hotspot turned on without a problem.
What's the error?

Are you running stock? What gives I have to use a convoluted autoinput task to do this. Secure settings doesn't work at all on 5.1.1 for me.

I'm running stock and always have, prefer vanilla Android.
As to Secure Settings not working on 5.1.1, I wouldn't know since I haven't used it in some time. Last time probably was just prior to posting in this thread (almost 4 months ago).
Sorry, no help here...

I found a wrokaround that allows you to still tether automatically with Tasker. I posted my results here in the Tasker Groups page. More or less you simulate screen taps to use the standard phone quick setting in the notification pulldown window. Send a PM or hit me up on Hangouts if you need any help figuring it out.
Thanks @andrewjt19 I'll have to give this a go later! I actually found an app that will toggle Wi-Fi tether automatically, but it is paid. I wonder what method the app uses to do it, I never checked on a debugger and I'm not even sure I would know what I am looking at. It is a shame to have to pay for something that should be such a simple procedure.
The app is called toggle WiFi hotspot 5.0 by Erwin Goslawski.

I found this widget and bought it too. It works well. I guess I'm glad I found an alternative methods of this stops working at some point. The only downside to my method is that the screen must be on and off the user is interacting with the device when the script runs, it could interfere this not activating the intended purpose. But overall it's simple and efficient. Thanks for sharing this widget though.

I had been having this problem on my 5x and just found a solution with xposed. I installed the xposed module 'x tether' which says it enables tethering for the moto x phones and afterwards tasker is able to enable / disable the wifi hotspot. This is the first thread that came up on google when I searched for this problem so I thought I would post here in case someone else encounters the same problem.

App that allows to make profile shortcuts

Does anybody know an app that would allow me to create profiles such as work, home, other, with customized settings like wifi on, Bluetooth off, vibration, and so on, and allow me to place a widget on my homescreen? I saw a few apps that fit the description on playstore but most of them seemed abandoned and still had screenshots from gingerbread. Also it has to work without root as i want to keep my phone clean for Samsung Pay. I don't mind if it's a paid app.
Thanks in advance
P.S. I know there is tasker, its an amazing app i'm sure, but it's not so simple to use.

Been looking too for the longest time. EasyProfiles was my go-to profiles app since it had just about everything that could be done built in, including support for tasker and also Secure Settings.
But...abandoned as you said for a long time. It used to work sporadically on my custom lollipop, but somehow has recently stopped working completely.
I too am curious to know if there are any.
Yeah. I have been looking for a long time for such app. Tasker is great but its so complexe that when you create a profile you have to make sure your next profile has settings that counter the first. As an example if you set a night mode with an option to turn off led notification you have to make sure you have an other profile that turns it back on. This is just a simple example but things can get messed up quickly if you're not careful. When using tasker i feel like im coding an app and need to update it with bug fixes in order to get it working well. It's a bit too sophisticated for the simple things i want to do

Yeah, I think it's essential. Call quality sucks on advanced calling, and for important calls, I want an option to quickly switch to 1x calling

Anyone else have any ideas?

This would be great. I am also looking to get tasker to toggle it for me when I am connected to my home wifi (and others) Since you only need it when you have no wifi.
Sounds like a tasker problem

I suppose it's not available in tasker after all. Weird BC I thought nothing was off limits in the app http://forums.androidcentral.com/android-apps/538920-how-can-tasker-programed-toggle-hd-voice-lg4-widget.html
So unless you're a developer, I suppose there is nothing you can do to get a volte widget.
I know this is an old thread, but I came across it because I was looking for the same feature. I have Verizon, and I have a Network Extender in my house to get normal service. Well, one of the downsides of using an Extender is that you have to have your Advanced Calling turned off to connect to it. Because I want to toggle it on and off frequently, I wanted a widget on my desktop. So I found a solution after trying a few apps.
Solution:
1) download app called "Quick ShortcutMaker"
2) on top, change search from "incremental search" to "normal search"
- this is easier, because you would think you could access it through settings, but you can't because its not there
3) type in "advanced calling" and search, you'll get two matches
4) choose the 2nd one which is labeled "Phone -> Advanced Calling -> com.android.phone/com.android.phone.VzwAdvancedCallingSettings
5) put that shortcut on your desktop and now you have a quick toggle to jump to that page and turn it on and off. Its not an official toggle, but it does save you several screens
PS: you can do the same for WiFi calling. Just make sure when you search that you search for "Wi-Fi calling", the hyphen is important. It's also under the phone category.

I just upgraded my Vz network extender to the new 4G model. It supports advanced calling. It also fixed a problem that I had sending DTMF to an IVR system.
I sold my old 3G network extender on eBay.

I wasn't aware of a 4G model. I would like to look into this. Could you share with me the manufacturer and model # of it? I can't seem to find on google.
Update: never mind, think I found it...this one right: https://www.verizonwireless.com/accessories/samsung-4g-lte-network-extender/

Awesome!!!! Been looking for this a long time. Still having trouble with my junk advanced calling. Works great even though says for older operating system. Now You have to add the widget to home screen first and then select it to add shortcut. So happy!!!!!!!!!!
