I recently got an HTC One and I didn't root it or anything, and because of past experiences I'm not planning on rooting it.
But can I still flash the stock HTC One 4.2 update? I didn't seem to get it OTA.

Perhaps the OTA is not yet available for your region or carrier... not all regions have had the update pushed yet and if your phone is carrier branded then there will be a longer delay.

What's your experience?
What I know it's so HARD to brick your phone during root...

I've owned 5 android phones: HTC Desire, HTC Sensation, Samsung Galaxy Ace, Samsung Galaxy S2 & Samsung Galaxy S3
The S3 and the Sensation were rooted with custom ROMs and the Galaxy Ace was just rooted. The S2 and the Desire were the ONLY phones I've owned that still work with no lag, no glitches and a relatively good battery. (less on the Desire)
After rooting usually nothing goes wrong and everything is awesome, but then after some time the rooted phones start acting out. It's hard to explain it (because virtually I don't think that's possible), but that's what happens and I want this phone to last.
The HTC One is a beast, the battery is REALLY good compared to older devices, I don't know what everyone's whining about. It's snappy and fast, I've literally never seen it lag (I've had it for a month+). I don't know.. I just don't want to root it for the time being :silly:

There is another way.... he can wait for the OTA to be pushed as the OP has said he doesn't want to root.
Please don't post these type of responses as you are not giving correct information.

so when he read my comment he said ok if there is NO other ways i will wait!

Hey,
So I'm a CDMA man myself (EVO running cm7) but my girlfriend has a Captivate and really really really wants flash. I told her the only way to get flash is to root and get 2.2 but she WILL NOT let me root her phone. Apparently she doesn't trust me that much.
Anyway I've googled this junk 13411523541324 times and nothing seems to come up. I know Samsung pulled the initial 2.2 update but is an official one even in the works? I can't find any news on it.
Thanks for anyone who responds.
I'm running Andromeda myself, but I did update my wife's phone to the official 2.2 thru Kies Mini.
Download Kies Mini. And run the update. It's the Official 2.2 update for the Captivate.

Not my wife but just about. And yeah, explaining to her what the Superuser App is would be tricky without giving away the fact that she's rooted.
She just doesn't want me to mess up her phone like I have messed up phones in the past (though I've NEVER bricked a device I have had some close calls with erasing recoveries and whatnot). If she sees an update come straight from Samsung she's more inclined to do it.
Still, she's constantly seeing all the awesome features I get from all my custom ROMs and is like "I WANT THAT" so I'm like "WELL YOU GOTTA ROOT" and then she puts her foot down. Maybe one of these days...
yeah you are kinda stuck if she wants to flash but doesnt want to be rooted.
2.2 official does have benifits and is worth doing if you are going to stay official, but if you are going to flash custom roms 2.2 will add 3e recovery and a few extra steps to then get to custom. going to custom roms is easiet from 2.1
Hi Guys
I am hoping that someone might be able to help me.
I have a Galaxy S+ that just randomly reboots. It is running 2.3.3 i believe (Friend is using the phone atm)
I got the phone on contract and actually went through 5 phones (and entire stores stock) only to find that all of them have this issue.
No i believe that its a software problem and not hardware as Samsung themselves have said nothing about it and the Samsung Specialist @ Vodacom (my cellular provide) has said that there isn't anything that they have heard or that they know of.
I have already rooted the phone, obviously the problem was happening before the rooting of it.
So my question is that does anyone think if i updated the rom to 2.3.6 or whatever else is available it might fix the problem?
I would prefer to keep the rom stock but will go with idea's that anyone would have.
Secondly where would i be able to get updated stock Samsung i9001 roms?
O really wanna give me gf this phone at the end of the month so please if someone could help me i would appreciate it!
Many thanks in advance

i'm not sure about the rebooting problem, but 2.3.3 had other problems in my country, u couldn't send an sms if u had 3G ON , so t-mobile updated all the devices to 2.3.5 , it might be a sign that 2.3.3 has some bugs. my opinion would be to flash one of the stock roms out there , or check if u have an update through kies (although i don't recommend updating with kies as there's a big chance it will freeze during instalation - ya , another crappy samsung software).
Thanks mate i think i will def but i am looking for a uk stock rom?

it depends on what u're looking for, i personally prefer stock with a few tweaks here and there. u can check the custom roms available in our dev section, it's not a big choice ,but u can see if any of them suit ur needs.
sudden restart
i am new around here,i got a i9001 and it sudden restarts on every rom i installed, costom or stock. first i taught that it restarts because of its ram, like the memory dump on pc, but then i saw, that i rebooted it and after 10-15 min it sudden restarted. i've been to my carrier for warranty, and what they did it was only a flash of rom version 2.3.6 and they gave it back to me. after about 2 hours since i got it back, it did the sudden restart again. srry for my english.

i have tryed all the brood roms, non oc version. at warranty they told me they know that i9001 has problems, but not the one described by me. which rom resolved your problem? now i got the kq1
I tried xxkpu and xxkq1, no problem so far.
If your phone is under warranty, ask for replacing new one.

they said when the phone came back "the phone did not present the problem sent for" on the warranty paper. They know about this problem, but they dont wanna lose money with extra costs for i9001 owners, it was a mistake made by samsung on this model and they dont want to assume it. I read more about this snapdragon oc processor used on i9001 (1.4 Ghz) and it says that it overheats sometimes rarely in first months, but after some heavily daily use it enters a restart loop ( probably after your warranty expires) and the phone becomes useless. sorry to say that for i9001 owners.
"Recently, a growing number of smartphone users experience temperature-related CPU failures that seem to be inherent in Snapdragon-powered devices, and typically manifest only after several months of smartphone use. Symptoms of this hardware failure are unexpected reboots of the phone, especially in higher ambient temperatures and under high CPU load and/or Wifi use. The phone may then enter a "reboot-cycle", which can only be stopped by removing the battery and cooling the phone. Over the period of several weeks or months, this behavior becomes increasingly frequent and occurs at progressively lower ambient temperatures and CPU loads, until it reaches a point where the phone can only be used in refrigerated and/or air-conditioned environments. It is speculated that deteriorating solder bonds of the BGA matrix (i.e., a lost connection between the Snapdragon-CPU and its motherboard) due to thermal stresses occurring in normal operation is the underlying problem for these failures, and CPU re-heating procedures have been proposed to remedy this problem, but so far with mixed results.[23] These hardware issues have not yet been officially acknowledged by companies that use the Snapdragon processor in their smartphones, even though a very large number of devices (HD2, Desire, Evo, Droid Incredible, Xperia, Galaxy S, etc.) seem to be affected. "
this thing is copied from a romanian site, which was meant to be a review for the snapdragon processors.
Sorry for beeing that silly, but did you resetted your phone?
sure I did, like i said, i tryed everything possible, formattin' partions, hard reset, wipe dalvik cache..

Hello
I just got the vivid after unsuccessful jaunt with ICS on the international galaxy note.
I wouldnt even need to root or anything Im already ten times happier with the vivid. So glad im back to an htc device Anyhow I have already rooted it im still s-on and its all stock. I haven't flashed anything
So I searched for gb roms and all i can find is holicakes, Is that the only rom avail? I dont think i want to update to ics as i read voice dialer isn't supported for it. And since I got a sour taste for it on my note im kinda ehh no. Also I cant get the ota update anyway it searches and comes back with nothing. But Im thinking I will have to update eventually so if you think thats a better option than using an outdated (not getting updates either rom) then i guess so be it. Thoughts?
Thanks!
I wouldupdate it...your probably gonna have to do the dial trick to get it...you dial a certain number and it downloads the update...or you can download the ruu from HTC website and use that to update

Hello, I have been unable to find anything about this elsewhere so I've resorted to asking here:
I am looking to install Android Revolution HD 3.5 on my HTC One, but one thing that is worrying me is that the firmware versions don't match, even though the One I have (from Three) hasn't actually received any firmware updates yet so it's still completely stock apart from the root.
The firmware on the device is 1.28.771.6 and almost all ROMs for the device are at 1.28.401.7. So I am basically just wondering if I have anything to really worry about, because I desperately want to move to ARHD, but the risk of bricking is making me paranoid, due to the process being very different to how it was done on the Samsung Galaxy S II I had before this.
Thanks!

I'm new with HTC myself, coming from an S2 and Nexus 4, however at the moment there aren't any Cyanogen based roms out, so you don't need to worry for now maybe ask in those threads when they are released.
Hey guys
Im sure I'm not the only one who's thinking this but I really wish I purchased the original mini. The reason for this is the only ROM at the moment for this device is CyanogenMod and nobody seems to be making one. Anybody else feel this way?
Also just in case are you involved or do you know anyone making ROMs for this phone?
Thank God that we have at least cm.... I agree with you, and since I have this phone from July, I have been asking for roms since the first day, but this device isn't so popular yet... Vi there are kernels and mods, better than nothing. This forum sometimes is dead for weeks, I wouldn't be surprised that there is no interest in development

Absolutely.... Preferably lollipop xD
@Will972 is one of the biggest contributors, as he gave us stock roms for every update
A sense rom based on lolipop will be planed soon on 2015 .. we must first have a kernel dev for a possibility to have it earlier but we don't have it.
The only thing we can have is a custom rom with 4.4.2 base
I just miss xposed since there is no idiot rooting guide.
I will make a rom with some stuff like xposed and sense 6.0 toolbox and maybe harman kardon mod instead of boomsound

I know rooting a HTC is not as easy as rooting a Samsung but still it is not hard. The most annoying part is unlocking the bootloader, but even this is easy, but killing time. Once this is done, you need 2 files: twrp recovery

HI indy140
You are not the only one thinking this, read my Statement(s) under Johann A. Sutter in this Forum!
I have made the same experience, for some reason or another it is obviously, that it is not so interesting (or to complicated) for developers to keep them busy with this device!
Good Luck, I'm keeping myself busy, to buy another one, looking before, if there are already valuable possibilities, to be my own Boss about my property.
